Chapter Six
A massive thanks to all the people who've reviewed thus far! And an extra big thank you to malimillions for their review! It made me get off my ass and actually post! haha! And to answer your question about Sasuke's ill-gotten name, I wanted to use something different since everyone calls him Sasuko and Satoko is a name that has a very special, personal meaning to me :) So I just had him blurt it out!
And in answer to SleepyBai Hu's ravenous amount of questions! I guess this timeline wouldn't follow the Sasuke leaving, although Itachi isn't dead, he doesn't play such a massive part at the moment. Neji gets on well with his uncle so it would be set after Chuunin exams, possibly even Shippuden times as he's a Jounin now. And about Itachi possibly getting a wife so young, I felt that because he was so adult in all other aspects that the clan may have wanted to settle him into married life asap, and hope that it would possibly settle HIM down in general! So no, it's not shota, Neji is probably about 18-19 in this and Sasuke a similar age. I know it doesn't fit with any timeline because of that but I'm taking huge liberties with everything on this haha! As for the story title, I used Wide of the Mark as some kind of reference to mistaken identity, although it will probably suit more of the story as it's revealed! Thanks for the reference to the typo - it's fixed now, but yeah, still quite amusing really! :) And no, I'm not really sticking to one POV per chapter, in future ones it will change many many times, that's just the way it had worked out so far, although this will mostly be Sasuke's story. Thanks so much for your review too! :D
And now! On to the actual story!
Chapter Six
Sasuke woke slowly, a smile on his face. He hadn’t slept this well in ages. He stretched, feeling his spine crack deliciously and fell back into the bed, more relaxed than he’d been in years.
Wait…
Bed?
He immediately was furious with himself for not noticing earlier. He wasn’t in his house, on his thin futon. He was in a huge bed surrounded by enormous soft pillows and woven blankets that felt they were made from the finest fabrics.
He cursed out loud as the previous days came flooding back, the ‘competition’ and subsequent ‘win’. Meeting Neji and his uncle and their reaction to his anger. The remembered lack of respect and their attitude towards him quickly brought forth his hostility again and he cursed a second time.
“Now, now Satoko-sama…we’ll have none of that.” Sasuke wanted to punch himself for failing to notice there was someone else in the room. What the hell had happened to all his ninja instincts? The team goes on holiday for a few months and look what happens!
He scowled and crossed his arms as his dresser walked over to the bed. She patted his crossed arms lightly and beamed at him.
“Today’s the day, dearie! Let’s get you up, you’ve got a big day ahead of you. And an even bigger night, I hear.” She winked slyly, disturbing Sasuke with what that implied. She chuckled to herself at his expression and patted him again.
Sasuke glared at her, whipped his arm away and half-shouted.
“Don’t talk about that! I don’t want to hear it…and don’t call me dearie either!”
The dresser, Kirara, he’d discovered earlier, just shook her head and went about pulling Sasuke from his blankets. The Uchiha fought and struggled but in the end sat in a half-filled bath of lukewarm water, subdued for the moment and having his hair washed.
Kirara sure was tenacious.
After quite a few cases of Sasuke digging his heels in and absolutely refusing to do her bidding, his dresser had called on her years of experience and just compelled him into it by sheer physical force. Sasuke had been so surprised at her hidden strength, he’d been halfway to doing what she wanted before he realized. A few fights later and he’d discovered it was just easier to do what she asked with a minimal of resistance before she really got serious and dragged him to wherever he needed to be. Possibly by his hair.
He stood up from the bath, absently patting at the rug burn on his ass as she handed him a towel, murmuring about what they were going to be doing today. Sasuke gave a heavy sigh. He’d been here for almost a week and every day leading up to the ceremony had been filled with classes for elocution and manners. A simple village girl as herself wouldn’t have known such things and so pains were taken to make sure she was fit for the heir of the Hyuuga Branch Family.
Sasuke had amazed everyone by his almost perfect diction and flawless manners, needing little or no correction from the very start. He’d purposely made a few mistakes when people had begun to ask him questions about where he’d learnt such obscure forms of greeting and ritual. It irritated him to no end, playing the fool, but for once it was necessary if he wanted to get out with his skin intact.
And just how that was going to happen was still a plan in the making.
As Kirara dressed him in a light kimono, nowhere near as heavy or decorated as the one he would be later wearing was, he silently thanked his forethought in training to sleep in the jutsu. The first night he’d been so terrified that he’d slip out of it during sleep that he’d tried it over and over again, casting sleep jutsus on himself, only to wake an hour or so later to check his form. It hadn’t made for a good nights sleep and if Kirara’s appalled shriek of fright the next morning was anything to go by, it hadn’t done a lot for his facial beauty either.
Although it drained him down to the very bottom of his chakara reserves, he wasn’t doing anything strenuous during the day so could afford to rest and regain them. It was going to be very tiring. But he didn’t plan on having to do it for long.
Once the ceremony was happening, when the part came for any objections, he could speak up and tell the little story he’d concocted. An intricate tale of family in debt and a marriage to another clan needed to save them would hopefully sway the family enough to let her go. He was sure that Neji would like that petite blonde just as much as him.
He nodded to himself and was swiftly told off by his hairdresser who tugged sharply on a strand to punish him. He dutifully held his head straight and mentally prepared himself for what was to come.

Sorry it's so short after such a long wait - I'm trying to get an even chapter length but it's just not working out how I want it to. So some will be short like this and others will be quite long. I'll try to keep more up to date with posting. I've finally gotten over the block that was stopping me in a future chapter - so hopefully updates will be more regular! Please review! Honestly it does make me write faster!
