The Confrontation

Author’s note: I’m sooooo sorry for the wait! Hopefully it will never happen again, but my life has gotten pretty hectic and I’m way behind at work, so who knows. Of course fan-fiction will come first though!^.^

I will have something out, AT LEAST every other Saturday, and usually way before that.

Thanks, as always to ever to all my reviewers, but especially Prism0467, for guilt-tripping me in that last review(guilt, my motivator!) and XoXgaaraXoX, who wrote one of my favorite stories ever, The Kissing Booth. That story is why I write GaaraXNarutoXSasuke, instead of just NaruSasu.

So, yeah…Read and Review!

“A Matched Set”

Chapter 6

The silver screen glow of the television flickered in the shadowed room, highlighting golden strands, turning them grey in some strange twist of alchemy. The only sounds were white noise and breath.

Gaara looked down, one pale hand stroking delicately through the curls pressed to his lap, starting at the crown and tugging gently all the way to the tips. He marveled at the soft, heavy feel, at the warm puffs of air on his thigh that made him tense and heated.

“…mmmm…” Naruto moaned, shifting his head, rolling slightly to the left, then coming back to snuggle into the blanket and Gaara’s lap, raining drops of popcorn to the carpet below. He’d fallen asleep about halfway through the movie, the lack of plot and exploding zombies combined with the dim light to knock him out.

Gaara’s mouth curved, a tiny contented smirk and let his hand fall to ghost over a rosy cheek. His skin was warm, almost feverish and soft, like rubbed velvet. His mouth parted in a puff of breath, gilded lids and lashes fluttering, causing Gaara to tense. He never wanted this moment to end, this quiet joy in simple contact, while the tv hummed and wind wuthered outside around them.

Naruto stilled.

Gaara smiled, moonwhite fingers running through loosely tousled curls. Happy.

It had fallen dark outside, the air chilly and gusting, with the harsh bite you can only find in autumn and it slammed the loose shutter against its rattling wooden frame every few moments.

But here…here it was warm. And happy.

Sasuke turned his car smoothly down the rutted road, dark eyes watching the view before him carefully. The way his day was going, a horrible fiery death, slow roasted in his car because he hit a butterfly wouldn’t be surprising. He WAS surprised Hinata hadn’t cut his break line. Or hidden in the back seat with a machete.

He sighed anxiously, rubbing one hand over his eyes.

What was he gonna say?

“Naruto!”

The blonde yawned, blue eyes blinking blearily, body warm and sluggish from the remnants of sleep.

“ Wha’ izzit?” he mumbled, sitting upright, dimly registering the fact he had been sprawled across Gaara’s lap. He felt hot and flushed, mind fuzzy from the unplanned nap.

“Someone’s banging on the door.” The redhead intoned calmly. He hadn’t wanted to wake him, but he was unable to move due to his ankle and the body across his lap.

“ ‘Kay.” Said the blonde, his voice husky. He ran a hand through the tangled curls and dragged himself up.

Gaara watched through sanguine jade eyes as Naruto stumbled toward the front door, loose drawstring pants pulled low on slim hips, thin t-shirt showing off lightly muscled arms. His blonde hair made a sloppy halo, bedraggled from sleep, and Gaara thought he was the most beautiful person he’d ever seen.

“Alright, I’m comin’!” Naruto shouted at the door, head pounding from the loud, sharp raps on his door. He fumbled at the doorknob for a moment, before finally mastering the lock. Another knock sounded.

“Will you hold…on…” Naruto said, whipping the door open then freeing, cerulean eyes wide with astonishment. “Sasuke…”

The other man stood before him, silky hair fluttering forlornly in the brisk breeze. The cold air had stung his cheeks, giving his normally pale skin a red stain, making him pull the rumpled suit jacket he wore closer around his arms. His normally dark eyes burned, and slight worn circles hung under his lashes.

“Naruto, I…” The other man started, then stopped, mouth snapping shut abruptly. His dark eyes slid back and forth.

“What are you doing here?” Naruto asked, sheer puzzlement lacing his tone. He stepped outside quickly, wincing at the coldness prickling along his bare feet and pulled the door shut firmly behind him.

“I…I came with a proposition for you.” Sasuke murmured, lowering his eyes, dark lashes skating patterns on his cheek.

“Why should I listen?” Naruto retorted, suddenly pissed. This ass has the nerve to show up at HIS without so much as calling, and then just expects him to act rationally? Naruto wasn’t even good at rational while calm.

“…I’m sorry.”

Naruto blinked.

Sasuke was studying the ground with acute interest, his normally rich mouth pursed into a thin line. His feet shifted on the creaky wooden floorboards, adding to the sound of the wind.

“What?”

The question tumbled out of the blonde’s mouth before he realized he was going to speak. He was shocked. The mighty Uchiha-sama was apologizing? To him? He shock his head, trying to clear it, sure he was still asleep.

“I’m sorry, okay?” Sasuke’s head snapped up, eyes flashing. How many times was his dobe going to make him say it? It had been hard enough the first time.

“Don’t growl at me.” Naruto hissed, anger rising over the shock. “Now what do you want?”

Sasuke swallowed hard, the words he’d have to say tap-dancing all over his pride.

“I would like you to consider taking your place back under my employment.”

He winced mentally. His words had come out stilted and formal, which isn’t how he wanted them at all…However they did bring up nice images of Naruto underneath him. He shook his head.

“Why?” Naruto asked simply, eyes holding pure bewilderment. “Why do this? Why come way out here? I’m not irreplaceable.”

The last came out so bitter, Sasuke visibly flinched, eyes sliding shut.

“…you don’t even like me.” Naruto whispered.

Sasuke took a step forward, eyes popping open at the words, taking in the slumped shoulders and desolate feature. The dobe actually believed it!

“Like you? LIKE YOU!?!? I can’t live without you! You’re gone for one day and the whole office falls apart. Half the employees quit, we’re out of fucking creamer, Hinata’s fucking scary and Kiba’s wielding deadly staplers. Ino crashed the entire record system, I didn’t even know you knew our janitor until he ripped my head of in Haitian…And the whole time I just kept thinking it was all my fault. If I had been nicer, kinder, promoted you like I had meant to. Nobody knew I liked hazelnut creamer. How did you find out?”

Sasuke took a deep breath before rushing on, ignoring Naruto’s open mouth and startled expression.

“I couln’t find anything, we lost like eight clients and…I missed you.” His voice dropped, then slowly grew stronger. “I missed your color coordinated sticky notes and the way your Y’s do that funny little loopy thing on the ends. I missed the sound of your laughter, and those stupid mass e-mails you send, that are usually inappropriate for the work space, and especially for you boss.”

“I always hoped you’d call me on them.” Naruto murmured, a smile pulling at the edges of his lips.

“I missed your smile and the utter exasperation in your eyes. I miss the way you blush when I smirk, and the way you stutter when I slip innuendos into a normal conversation. I miss-“

Naruto launched himself at Sasuke, arms wrapping around his neck and mouth latching onto the brunette’s with a startled ‘oompf’. He’d never heard ANYTHING so sweet. Sasuke actually cared…

Well…not at the moment.

At the moment Sasuke was a little distracted by the warm sweet mouth on his, the hot body pressed against his own and the needy little whimpers coming from the very back of his dobe’s throat.

He reached a hand up blindly, threading it through the satin strands and yanked the blonde’s head to a better angle, his blood heating as he heard the resulting hiss and felt sharp teeth sink into his lower lip.

Naruto used Sasuke’s gasp as an excuse to plunge his tongue deep inside his mouth.

Sasuke moaned, pressing needily against Naruto. The tongue in his mouth flicked wickedly, making him jerk, and the arm around his waist pulled him closer, crushing him against a warm body.

Sasuke pulled back slowly, sucking roughly on a bottom lip, before disengaging completely. His dobe was flushed and panting, lips wet and bruised from the fierce kiss, eyes dazed and a little vacant. His hair was disheveled.

“Sas-“

“So, I’ll see you at work tomorrow?” The brunette muttered cheerfully, burying cold hands deep in pockets to help resist the pull of Naruto’s sweet warmth.

“Unh?” Naruto said coherently.

“Right,” Sasuke whispered against his ear,”do-be?”

He smirked at the flummoxed expression on the blonde’s face, then smirked wider as he blushed, letting himself quietly off the porch.

He felt like whistling. Tomorrow would be such fun.

Gaara closed the curtain and limped back to couch where he had been previously sitting. He hurt so much, he felt sick, bile and betrayal roiling in his stomach. He closed his eyes as Naruto came in, unable to face him. The blonde came in and tucked a blanket around him.

His eyes kept flashing to the kiss he had seen.

Shadows carved tear tracks down his face.
