All right everyone this chapter is not quite the way you will expect it to go, so don’t bother predicting what will happen because I guarantee you will be disappointed.

Chapter 5

Then You’ll Find That Once Again You Long to Take Your Heart Back and be Free

Naruto was quickly coming to realize that people as a whole really were idiots. He had already known most of the people employed by Opera House were, but now he condemned the entire human race of this unfortunate condition.

For example, the fact that anywhere he went he was immediately eclipsed by a following, consisting mostly of men. Evidently the ability to discern gender was limited to a privileged few. I guess no one got the memo that I am male. It was either that or the residents of Paris were all homosexual.

Shaking in head in bewilderment, Naruto made his way down to the stables, checking right and left to ensuring his usual band of idiots weren’t going to make their usual appearance.

Once clear, he walked cautiously down to the head groom’s office. It never failed to amaze him that while the interior and exterior of the Opera House were flawless, the stables were sadly lacking. Cobwebs and dust were evident in every nook and cranny around the boards that looked as if they would crack at any given moment. The horses weren’t much better, old and decrepit; really it was amazing they could still stand.

Once he arrived to his destination he put a hand over his nose as the form of the immense men that was the head groom waddled his way over to Naruto. The smell emanating from the man—if he could be called such—was much worse than the stables themselves. As the man thing approached he openly leered at Naruto, who cringed inwardly in disgust.

“What ye need, ye pretty ‘lil thing you?” the creature asked, attempting to be charming as if such a feat was possible.

“I need a ride to the cemetery.” Naruto managed to gasp out, the stench was so overpowering.

“Weel Oi’ll be need’n some sort’a payment to ‘ire out one’o my ‘ackney’s” the man suggested, his idea of compensation more than evident in the way he was openly leering.

Feeling sick in the pit of his stomach Naruto reached into his pocket and pulled out more than enough to pay this sickening individual.

The groom took the money, openly disappointed that his kind gesture of payment had been rejected. “Awright then give a bloke a moment to get ‘is coat and such.”

Naruto’s mind was on other things as he waited on the man to fetch the hackney. He completely missed the groom getting hit over the head just as he was about to get into the prepared vehicle, a covered figure taking his place.

In fact, Naruto climbed into the hackney and didn’t even look at the driver. The figure smiled as though a private joke had just been initiated, but said nothing, urging the aging horse into a slow jog. Amazingly the animal moved to the required speed and didn’t keel over and die, although it looked as though it would.

As they arrived Naruto told the groom to wait “I’m visiting my father’s grave.” He told him. “I won’t be long.”

As it was snowing outside, Naruto hurriedly walked his way over to his father’s mausoleum, which ironically enough, was located at the very back of the cemetery. Damn father! Naruto inwardly cursed, even in death he still makes things difficult for me.

When he’d arrived Naruto did what was usually done, which was place a rose on the edge of the building and have a ‘conversation’ with his father. “I wonder what you would do, father,” he mused curiously, “if you were offered immortality or happiness. Never mind, I know what you would have chosen, what you did choose. Immortality was obviously your choice.” He was right, as he thought back to the few memories he had of his father none of them contained what he would call happiness.

He thought more about “Kyuubi’s” offer and knew he had made his choice. Although he would have liked to surpass his father, what was more important to him was happiness. Naruto was familiar with what immortality entailed, as well as that the fact that even if your name lived on, you would still be dead at the end of the day. Therefore, when the day came to make this decision he would know what to choose.

Sighing, Naruto realized the time of the day and that he needed to be getting back. Looking at his father’s memorial one last time, something caught his eye…and held it. Eyes narrowing, his voice hissed in accusation “You!”

Chuckling, the figure that was Kakashi nodded his ascent. “Last time I checked I was me.” Sliding off of the incline he was currently seated on Kakashi swaggered his way over to where Naruto was located. “You didn’t’ really think you’d seen the last of me did you?”

Naruto snorted. “One could only hope.”

Kakashi clucked his disagreement of that statement. “Now Naruto,” He silkily supplied, “you should know better than to lie to me.”

Shaking his head, Naruto started to walk away, not willing to put up with the other male’s bullshit, especially not today. As he pulled away a hand on his arm stopped him.

“Let me go.” Naruto demanded without turning around. “I am not having anything to do with you from now on. Just leave my life as though you never existed. I refuse to take part in whatever game you are playing.”

Kakashi swung him around, it was his turn not to be angry. “You are mine! You have been since you were a child and put your voice into my hands---.”

“---That’s all it’s about isn’t it Kakashi?!” Naruto’s beautiful eyes were flashing like a thunderstorm, turbulent and fascinating. “My voice that is all that matters to you! That and your stupid little game. Well I’ve had enough!” he shrugged out of the grasp he was being held in. “I am done with singing, this bloody Opera House, and with you!”

Naruto attempted to walk away once more…until a taller figure grabbed him and slammed his body into the nearby wall of his father’s mausoleum.

Before he could regain his breath Kakashi yanked down his facial coverings, exposing his entire face to Naruto for the first time, his eyes filled with something akin to desperation, Kakashi put his hands around Naruto’s face. “You can’t leave me.” He pleaded, “you can’t leave me.” His arms then went around the younger male’s frame, holding him tightly.

Naruto in the meantime, was still in shock. The beauty of Kakashi’s features belied the reason he would cover them. He was easily one of the most beautiful creatures Naruto had ever beheld. His features looked as though they had been shaped by the gods themselves, the only mar being a slight scar over one of his eyes. When the older of the two’s arms went around him and he pleaded with Naruto not to leave him, Naruto couldn’t have walked away for anything, his answer to Kakashi’s plead was to place his own arms around Kakashi.

For a long moment the two stood there in silence, just holding each other until as if by prolonged physical contact with the other they each needed more. At the same time Kakashi’s head came up so did the other’s. Wordlessly Kakashi’s lips took Naruto’s mouth in a desperate kiss, immediately parting the nonexistent barrier and heading into the warm, wet haven.

Naruto groaned as the other’s tongue made contact with his own. The need that had been awoken from another recent embrace immediately revived. All Naruto wanted was this man, this man who had been with him since he was a child, the only human being that he knew so well…yet didn’t.

Kakashi growled as Naruto’s innocent move closer brushed against his manhood. He tightened the embrace, balancing Naruto’s light weight against the wall, forcing Naruto to wrap his legs around the older male’s waist. Before he lost his legendary control Kakashi broke the kiss, balancing his forehead on Naruto’s breathing heavily.

“Why…did you stop?” Naruto panted out.

Kakashi chuckled. “Because I didn’t think you would be particularly happy with me if your first time was against the wall of your father’s grave.

Hmmm….he does have a point there, Naruto conceded, that would be a little awkward. As Naruto’s body slid to the ground once more, Naruto’s realization of what exactly he’d been about to do and where hit him and he felt his entire face flush in embarrassment.

He looked at Kakashi though his eyelashes, and flushed even deeper when he saw Kakashi was returning the gaze, if not a bit more intensely.

“So what now?” Naruto finally blurted out, scratching his head in confusion. “I was all fixed to finally leave but then you had to go and prove that you do have a heart after all.”

“Don’t remind me that you were about to leave.” Kakashi growled. “It’s a good thing I got here when I did. You don’t want to know what I would have done if you had attempted it.”

Naruto was amused by his ramblings. “And just what would you have done?” he questioned playfully, a side of him never seen by anyone but this one man who had the ability to bring it out of him.

“Trust me.” Kakashi gruffly retorted, “it would have been ugly.”

“I’m sure it would have been.” Naruto played along soothing his ego. But then the serious side of him came back to the front. “Now you need to tell me what this whole thing is about.”

Kakashi looked startled. “What thing?”

Naruto’s hands crossed his arms over his chest. “Don’t play stupid with me. This whole ‘game’ you’re always going on and on about. It has a purpose and you’re going to tell me what it is.”

Kakashi scratched his head, “Well I guess I can’t fool you.” Pulling his facial coverings back over his features he went on. “Well it has to do with Carlotta.”

“What?!” Naruto demanded, jealousy sparking in his eyes like dagger points. “Don’t tell me you ever slept with that…that…”

Kakashi openly shuddered, “No, No, No.” he scoffed. “I am the one who got that cow famous and she never acknowledged me, not once. So the point in getting you to sing was to usurp her position and boot her out of stardom.”

Naruto, meanwhile, was staring at Kakashi in total shock, complete with mouth wide open.

Kakashi took note of this. “What?”

“You mean this whole thing is about getting even with Carlotta?”

Scratching his head Kakashi’s meager reply was, “Well, yeah.”

Naruto just stared at him…and stared, followed by laughter.

“What is so damned funny?” Kakashi barked, not unlike a dog.

“Well it’s this whole “I am mysterious thing.” And the whole motive is that you…” Finally Naruto’s laughter died down. “Well if it means that much to you, I guess I’ll help you out.”

“Really?” Kakashi quipped.

“Why not?” Naruto eyes gleamed. “If there’s something I love it’s definitely a good prank.”

End of Chapter.
