This is totally from my own head; I have no idea of Hyuga marriage customs, as the show and manga has never mentioned them.

It was a long complicated mess that made Naruto’s head hurt the moment Tsunade started explaining it to him. Mostly he heard “ Blah blah blah Traditinal, blah blah blah Important, and a lot of big words he didn’t understand. After twenty minutes of blank stares and a lot of exaggerated yawning, Tsunade decided just to take care of it herself. Naruto was happy to let her.

It seemed that in the Hyuga clan, both families drew up a set of agreements. It was typically things such as what the bride would bring with her to her new families home, or any valuable objects or secret techniques that would be shared. As Naruto had no mother or father, Tsunade posted herself and Iruka as Naruto’s closest kin. Their conditions were rather different than the Hyuga clan heads were used to dealing with.

“ No child of Uzumaki Naruto will carry the seal. That is your condition?” Hiashi stared at Tsunade, eyes narrowed.

“It is the only condition. Naruto refuses any child of his to bear such a seal. Ever.” Her eyes were sharp, gold as a hunting leopards.

“Hyuga Neji is of the branch family.”

“And Naruto is not Hyuga. Accept the condition, or Naruto will find another clan.” She tapped her perfectly lacquered nails on Hiashi’s desk, her smile held all the warmth of a hunting cat.

She knew she had him. Being well versed in the various clans bloodlines and how stretched the Hyuga lines already were, Hiashi would be cutting his own throat spite himself if he refused.

“The seal is in place for a reason. Neji’s children will never be part of the main house.”

Tsunade shrugged, sitting back.

“Fine, if you want to try to put a seal on a child of Uzumaki, it will be interesting to see you fight him to do so. I am sure the Kyuubi would be happy to meet you.”

Silver eyes widened slightly, as if remembering that Naruto was much more than he seemed on the outside.

The terms were signed without further argument.

“I here congratulations is to be given. You are an uncle.”

Kisame stared down at his partner, but was unsurprised to see little reaction. Ever since the Nine Tail’s movements outside the village had nearly disappeared, Akatsuki had attempted to discover the reason. Spies had at last managed to bring back the well kept secret. The nine tails had birthed a child. A Uchiha child. Sasuske it seemed had been busy.

Itachi stared at the photo cupped between his palms. A small, dark haired boy stood, head tipped back to smile up at the blond haired Naruto.

“He looks just like his father did.” Itachi murmured, fingers caressing the tiny face. Kisame was surprised by the unexpected melancholy in the man’s voice.

“He would make it easy to lure the nine tails into our grasp. . . “Kisame ventured carefully, uncertain if the sudden Nostalgia he was sensing in the Uchiha would bleed into their duties. Soft laughter was his answer.

“Indeed, a perfect plan. Is he strong enough, do you think?”

Kisame blinked in confusion. “The nine tails brat?”

Soft laughter.

“My brother. Is he strong enough do you think, to keep me from killing his firstborn son?”

Itachi was smiling, even as he crushed the picture in his fist.
