Chapter: Yamato

Chapter Warnings: Um... everything that has been said before,CHARACTER DEATH I warn of this because there's going to be some upset people at the end of this chapter cuz I kill this one off, and any writing mistakes I may have made. Hopefully I caught them all but hell if I know. XDD
Author Note: Whoo! Yamato lives!(only because I need him later... after that who knows if he will live on.*devilish grin*) Let's see, the strangely popular Sai is in this chapter and Sakura also makes an appearance. And in mentioning appearance I would like to let you know this is the beginging of changing people's appearances meaing their sense of fashion. Why you may ask? Some of it is well thought out and has a purpose, others just cuz the characters look hotter that way. ^^
Special Dedication: This chapter is dedicated to weskerism and overlordofnobodies because you guys have pretty much have always let me know what you think! Love you guys!

Chapter: Yamato

He landed deftly on a roof top and at what he saw upon looking down made his eyes widen to an impossible size at what he saw. Somehow it had never truly registered why the Lady Hokage had asked him to watch over team seven, or even that Danzou had the young child as an elite ROOT ANBU until this moment. The kid had talent and lots of it, he would probably rival Sasuke or even Naruto with three tails. The situation made it very clear that Sai could have dealt with him, not because he was weaker than the younger, but he wouldn’t have been prepared for this.

Below Sai flipped out of the way as a small tornado went whizzing by him only to come out of the flip drawing one of his swords to slice the throat of a villager gone rabid, all before landing swirling around to draw the second blade and swing it upward to slice open yet another villager. Both swords were put back into the holders on his back in order for the boy to pull out two scrolls throw them in the air and quickly draw seals on each roll. His gloved fingers flew through the appropriate seals and from one scroll flew fire balls the other slicing wind to take out four other opponents. The boy barely made it out of the way as the crazed Hana went flying at him her nails long and ready to tear at his flesh.

Sai landed a few feet away and winced his hand going towards his right thigh bringing Yamato’s attention to the open wound there. Upon further inspection Sai’s left ankle was swollen, but only moments ago the nin had been acting as if he felt none of this. It was slightly amazing to Yamato that Sai could blank out the pain like he had been doing even now there was little indication that he felt any of it as he leapt out of the way, in the process sliding his sword through yet another villager.

Yamato watched the other nin land hard on his left ankle but said man gave no indication towards his swollen appendage. Yamato dropped to the ground, his hands going through the signs to able himself a wood jutsu. Just as he was about to say what needed to be said to release his chakra, another opponent came smashing through into the clearing almost squishing Sai under his huge weight.

“Shit.” Sai cursed as he slid to a stop just a few feet away from him.

Sai spared only a moment to look at his sensei and team leader before focusing his eyes back on the problem in front of him. It came as a little bit of a surprise that Sai had just taken him in, accepted his presence, and realized he wasn’t the enemy in that quick moment. To think that the kid always acted like a dunce, and had hidden this enormous ability, even as much to cloak his chakra which was now flowing around him in large quantities. Yamato couldn’t see it like the Uchihas or Hyuugas, but he certainly could feel it and it made the hair on his neck stand at attention.

“Kakashi-sensei is he well?” Sai asked him.

“Lee-san is helping him now.”

“Gai-sensei?”

Yamato shook his head and the two jumped together as a large hand came down next to them. Landing at opposite sides of the clearing made it difficult for them to figure out a plan, but made it harder for the enemy to kill them off. Hana transformed herself into a tornado and swung her body dangerously towards Sai who had come upon yet another problem with some villagers. Yamato sent a wooden pillar towards the woman but feared it wouldn’t hit in time, only to be surprised yet again as a hand slammed the woman to the ground. Sai and Yamato took a moment to stare at Chouji who had just moments before attacked them. The large man didn’t give him much time to really think about it as the mass came rolling at him at neck breaking speeds. Jumping and sliding away he quickly turned his body to throw up a wooden barrier to slam up against the human ball which caused him to be dazed momentarily. Coming to a stop he realized he was near Sai and looked at the younger man.

“That was a bit odd, but not unusual I suppose. Most animals can be territorial.”

Sai’s eyes were calculating not taking them off the dangerous Akamichi only a twenty feet away. The younger man shook his head dismissing his assumption.

“No, they are smarter than that. Villagers can be like that to an extent but not the ninjas. They use the villagers and other rabid nins to their advantage like a pack of lions coming in for the kill.”

Yamato looked back at Chouji his eyes narrowed, so the shunobi were smart enough to realize victory was in numbers. So something entirely different was going on with the nin in front of them. His mind raced over the possibilities and then it hit him.

“So he’s not fully under control of the eyes.”

“It would appear not.” Sai answered.

“We’re still going to have to kill him. This will be difficult.” He commented.

“Not necessarily, given what he has done thus far indicates he understands to an extent that he is going crazy. He may allow us an opportunity to strike.” Sai explained, which was probably the most Yamato had ever heard the man speak.

The Akamichi stopped wobbling his eyes focusing on the two of them before they flashed strangely and his body came at them once more. Just because he might know what was going on occasionally didn’t mean they would be lucky enough to live long enough to see an end to the honorable shunobi. A hand was sent flying backwards and back handed Sai who raised his arms to cover his body from the worst of it but the man went flying back to skid across the ground.

“Chouji!” Yamato called out trying to reach the sane part of the man’s mind.

The younger nin turned to look at him and for the briefest moment recognition registered before a large foot was sent flying at him. He shouldn’t have been able to make it out alive, but at the very last moment the foot paused to come slamming down right next to his body. If Yamato was any less of a man he would have pissed his pants right then and there and then fainted dead to the ground. The Akamichi drew back his leg and foot only to start growing in size, which wasn’t a very good thing.

“Yamato-sensei use you’re wooden jutsu to restrain the growth!” Sai called out rolling out of the way as another hand came slamming into the ground he had once been.

Sai was pretty ripped up the skin on his back shredded and bleeding out onto the ground, and the younger man had used the rest of what was left of the tattered shirt to help give his left ankle more support. Yamato nodded at the younger man and his hands went flying over the seals before he called out for his wood to wrap around the growing man and squish him down further. Long arms went flying at him only to be wrapped in wood as well and brought back to be restrained against the large body.

Chouji gave a monstrous cry out to the heavens that made his body shake on the inside. The kind shunobi was hard to match up with this suddenly blood crazed monster in front of him. What had happened to thousands of people just wasn’t right and it made him sick to think about.

“I can’t hold this for much longer!” He informed the other man.

Sai nodded and raced up one of the wooden poles towards the Akamichi, grabbing a sword from the ground and aiming for the man’s throat. Yamato didn’t have to see to know that the look on Sai’s face was one of cold determination. The younger nin probably didn’t want to have to do such a thing to a friend but he would for the safety of the others.

Just as Sai was about to slide the metal in, Chouji broke free of the wood, splinters flying away from the shredded jutsu. Yamato’s eyes widened as he watched in horror large hands reaching to grasp around the smaller man with the sword. Sai was going to die, because he couldn’t keep the Akamichi chained. Damn it, he cursed to himself.

At the very last second hands slammed down into the ground and not around Sai. Sai landed in the triangle they made and the monstrous man shrank down to normal size, his hands staying the same. Chouji screamed up into the red and black sky and Yamato took in the tears that streamed down his chubby cheeks.

“Kill me..” he strained to say. “Kill me now…”

“No,” Yamato called out as Sai rose his sword.

“I have no choice, let him die honorably for his village.” Sai answered before sinking the sword to the hilt into the rotund man before him.

Slowly arms shrank back into proper proportion and Chouji fell heavily against Sai. The man removed his sword carefully from the Akamichi and laid him reverently on the ground. Yamato made his way over and stopped just behind Sai and looked down at the saddened face with tears falling down.

“I killed them….” Chouji whispered.

Yamato felt his heart constrict with in his chest. “It’s okay in the end you did what was right.”

“Ino..”

“What of her?” He asked.

“She was there…”

Sai frowned and Yamato raised a brow, that didn’t make much sense as he’d seen her with Sakura earlier. Though he’d seen some people fall to the ground as if dead only to rise again later and start killing people. Maybe she had been there and upon seeing people dead had left hoping to find some who were alive, it had been what he’d done. Sai seemed to be contemplating something far different.

“She is alive.” Sai answered.

“Love… her…” With that Chouji was gone his eyes growing blank.

Yamato closed his own eyes and said a prayer for the man, he’d been a great shunobi of the leaf. He was saddened at the loss but optimistic that the man had been able to leave this world and find a more peaceful one. Opening his eyes he watched Sai close the man’s eyes and fold his hands over his torso. Standing Sai looked over him as if contemplating what to say.

“The village is lost and those we could save are now, unfortunately as things are as they are, not worth saving.” Sai said.

Yamato stared at the younger nin, “You have been everywhere?”

A nod.

“There is no one?” he asked.

“I’m sure that there are, but it wouldn’t be wise to search for them and risk our lives when our group is as small as it is.” Sai explained.

“You’ve been to Sakura and the group?”

“I am the one who brought some of the survivors there.”

Somehow this bit of news did not surprise him, Naruto had that effect on people even himself. It was sad now that Naruto was as he was. He looked back towards the Hokage tower burning and the mountain behind it. Day break was only an hour away, and judging by the look of the night, it wouldn’t be seen. He sighed and received a quizzical look from the other man.

“Day break isn’t going to come. This makes things more dangerous.”

“I speculate that it’s a permanent eclipse or something very similar to one.” Sai commented looking up at the sky.

It was a theory to start with, and it wasn’t like he could come up with anything better. He looked back down at Chouji the man who had, in the end, given his life for the love of his friends and village survivors. All these boys and girls had been raised very well, even the socially inept and mostly blunt Sai. Yamato smiled at the thought, everything was not lost just yet.

“We should take him to Ino.” Sai whispered.

Yamato looked at the man with a little surprise.

“It is what he wanted in the end, and I think she would want to see him.”

“Why do you think that?” he asked.

“They were lovers or so asume.”

The thought gave him pause and he openly stared at the other man.

“The way he said he loved her, it was different than if they were simple friends.”

“You notice far more than you ever let on.”

“That was my job. Danzou is dead which relieves me of that duty, and there is no time to play dumb.”

To this Yamato whole heartedly agreed with, there was absolutely no time for such things.

They came up on the mountain Yamato holding the dead Akamichi while Sai limped beside him. The man had no chakra left, at least very little anyway and had lost a lot of blood which made him woozy. Sai had smartly opted to walk, that way if he passed out he wouldn’t be falling to his doom from a great height. Kakashi had returned with Lee and beside the green monster was TenTen who was currently getting healed by Sakura. Yamato stared for a moment at the back of her head where her hair seemed lighter than before.

“Ah, you have come back victorious. Good, good.” Kakashi announce in his infinite good nature.

“Not fully.” Sai replied as if Kakashi hadn’t said something idiotic.

Sakura finished healing TenTen to turn and look at the two that had arrived. The look that spread across her face was comical in a way when her eyes looked over Sai. The man seemed oblivious of his injuries, even as he limped, focused on seeing how many had survived. Yamato also looked, only the shunobi who’d survived were few. Ino, Sakura, TenTen, Lee, Hinata, Shikamaru, Shino, Iruka, Kakashi, Sai, Akamaru and himself. The rest were villagers and not to many of them had survived either. Still, more villagers to ninja which could make things difficult.

“SAI!!!” Sakura bellowed standing up causing the young man to look at her.

He regarded her with cool eyes, as if all was well and she was over reacting about something he didn’t understand. For Sai, the strange person he was, it probably was all those things. Sakura came stomping up to him as if she herself was going to pummel him to death and Sai remained completely unaffected by all of this.

“Jesus fucking Christ!! Look at you, what the hell is wrong with you?”

“I ripped up my back, slashed up my right upper thigh, and fractured my right ankle among other small cuts and bruises.” He answered her.

Yamato watched with hidden amusement as the pink haired nin fumed. She was out right livid, and Sai’s indifference was making it worse.

“God damn it Sai I told you to be careful.” She yelled at him.

“And I was sufficiently so.” He answered.

“Sufficiently-” She stopped herself clenched her fists and unclenched them to calm herself down. “Right.”

With that Sai was shoved down onto a tattered blanket where she started to heal him starting with the ankle. Yamato watched her interestedly as she continued to berate Sai for getting this hurt and allowing it to get this bad. Ino laughed at the two before her eyes looked upon Chouji, she had yet to see as she’d been healing smaller cuts and wounds. The moment Yamato had laid eyes on her seeing Chouji he knew Sai had been right.

Ino walked over to him and placed her hand on the man’s forehead and bit her bottom lip.

“We had to, but he allowed us to in the end.” He explained.

Ino nodded and gave him a brief smile before looking back at her dead lover. Yamato imagined that this would be one of those times where she would be going over what might have beens and things she never got to says. Slowly he put the large man on the ground Ino followed him sliding down to her knees. It had to be hard to think that you had seen him earlier and assumed him dead only to be faced with this reality of what really happened.

Ino closed her eyes and laid her upper half over his torso her blond hair falling around them. Ino’s shoulder started to shake with quiet sobs and Yamato walked away to give her a little space as she mourned her dead lover. It had been a very thoughtful thing of Sai to suggest, which only opened yet another layer into who the young nin really was.

“So what should we do?” Iruka asked the group.

“The city is lost.” Sai commented.

“So what we leave?” Sakura asked.

Sai looked at her and something akin to concern crossed his features before it was gone. Yamato suddenly wondered if maybe he had imagined it.

“It’s a valid idea.” Shikamaru spoke up from his position leaning against a tree.

“What about all those people just laying there, what if others are still alive?” TenTen asked.

“It’s probable that they will be rabid.” Sai replied.

Everyone seemed to deflate at the thought, all but Shikamaru.

“They will be rabid, until we remove the jutsu, or so I speculate.” Shikamaru added.

“So we may still be able to save them?” Iruka asked.

The young man shrugged, “in theory.”

Kakashi spoke up, “Then what to do until we can come up with a plan? We can’t stay here.”

Those around nodded, even some of the villagers, and Yamato had to agree even if he didn’t much like the idea.

“I say we go from building to building scavenging what we can of clothes, food, water. Things that we can’t really do with out. As the sun more than likely won’t be rising again. it will get colder and colder as the days and nights ware on. So to prepare we need blankets, coats, and boots as well.” Shikamaru announced to those around.

“We are expected to go back down there into that hell hole?” A male villager spoke up.

“We’ll wait until things quiet down, things seem to be starting to as is. Most of the nin are either dead or in the jutsu’s sleep. Villagers are dead, or easily dealt with.”

“Some of the people nin or civilians are living in a fantasy world.” Shino spoke up from his laying position on the ground

“Oh?” Kakashi spoke.

“Yes, they may prove to be difficult if disturbed.” Shino answered.

“Hm, then I say we break up into teams after we have rested some and pan out. Meet somewhere outside the village with everything.” Iruka said.

“I agree that is best.” Shikamaru added.

“There must be others who have survived else where.” Sakura spoke up sounding a little sickly.

Yamato looked over to see her working on Sai’s back now and strangely her hair seemed to be getting lighter still, her bangs looked as if they were getting white even. He frowned and looked to Sai who seemed, even though he couldn’t see her, unhappy about what was going on behind him.

“Do we send out search parties for that?” Iruka asked.

“No to dangerous.” Sai answered.

“Sai’s right, plus its more man power than we can afford.” Shikamaru added.

“Then what?” Shino asked.

“I say clones, or even simple summoning jutsus. If survivors are found then we send someone out to retrieve them.” Shikamaru speculated.

“Clones use a lot of chakra.” Sakura commented swaying a little nobody seemingly noticed, but himself and Sai.

“It’s very true.” Shikamaru looked at Kakashi. “That’s why I thought maybe Kakashi could summon his dogs. They operate on their own chakra when we get to other villages or towns we could use our clones to go in and investigate instead. We could cover more ground and there is little risk to ourselves.”

“Well we could do that here in the village.” Kakashi said.

“Yes we could.”

“But why bother when we’re leaving any way.” Iruka concluded.

“Right. No need to circle back.” Shikamaru commented.

“Alright.” Kakashi said quickly summoning his dogs.

“Yo.” Paku said.

“I need you guys to spread out and search for survivors head towards Suna, they are our allies.” Kakashi told them.

“You should just come back after getting a smell for life.” Shikamaru added. “Best let clones or us go in there. We’ll be needing you guys more than once.”

“Alright.” Paku replied.

In a poof of smoke the dogs were off headed in the direction of Suna to investigate if their allies were still alive and kicking. Yamato was pleased that Kakashi was still alive his dogs made things easier.

“Damn it.” Sai swore and had every one looked over to where Sakura was passed out on the ground her bangs as white as they could be, the rest of her hair a light pink.

He frowned, so he was right Sakura had been fading. Ino pushed off Chouji and ran towards Sakura placing green glowing hands over the woman.

“Great Hokage Sakura are you trying to kill yourself?” She whispered to the comatose woman.

“Now we need to figure out where we’re headed.” Hinata quietly spoke.

Shikamaru nodded pulling a large folded map from his pocket. “Let’s have a look shall we?”

Yamato sighed, it was going to be a very long day and he’d had so little sleep too.

END NOTE: As usual for my fans that review!

overlordofnobodies: I'm always so pleased to see your post it's always lengthy and detailed. ^^ As for Kakashi crazy, I thought about it I did, but in the end I thought of something far more amusing to do with him. I'm glad you're happy to see Iruka, I truely love that character. As for not really naming names in the last chapter I did that on purpose so that I could make this chapter possible. The Lee thing made me chuckle to, though I'm writing it, because it was such a Lee entrance. Lee makes me happy in all his "uniqueness". Hope you like this chapter and I hope to hear from you once more!
weskerism: Another person that makes me happy to see! Whoo! TenTen kicks ass for sure, and her make over will be awesome. At least I think so. I always thought of her as a smaller Anko only not as brash/dark because she never spent time with orochimaru... thank god. Anyway... Gai.... >.> <.< >.> *nod nod* That's all I can say I'm sure you can figure it out. And well the next chapter. XDD I think that answeres all your questions. I'm actually happy your asking all these questions it means you're exicted and want more. WHOO!!!
To My Readers: Okay so unless I change my mind in later chapter you can no longer suggest people to live. I pretty much have it all figured out. And I love all you nin peeps out there reading my story! Please continue to do and feel free to review I'm alwyas happy to hear from ya'll!
