No Tears Left to Cry
A.N: Phew this was a tough one to write. Sorry for late update. *winces* But this is especially long so it should make up for it. Let's see, good listening for this chapter is "If You're in Heaven" by VAST and "Wishing on a Star" from the 10th Kingdom for the dream sequence. It's the two songs that inspired this chapter.
Anyone who can tell me they know what the 10th Kingdom is about gets a fuckin' ficlet from me Zimmrie Kanoah because nobody ever seems to know what I'm talkin about.(Cept my lovely co-witer which is one of the reasons I love her) Anyw mistakes are mine, I'm all sickly and been writing like a nut but I may have missed some shit. SO I'm very sorry ahead of time. Hopefully it doesn't interupt your reading experiance. Love to you all!
“No Tears Left to Cry”
Gaara moved with a singular purpose only he would even be able to move with, years of having to control everything coming into play as he walked. He didn’t have anyone else to confide in. Sure the Hokage knew what was going on she had said as much when he had last seen her, but that was more of a don’t ask don’t tell sort of thing. Lee, he had to find Lee and tell him everything or he was liable to explode, something he hadn’t done in a very long time and he was without Shukaku now.
Kankuro moved out of the way as he walked past plastering himself to the wall. The man knew better than to be in the way when he had ‘the look’. He had been told a few times that Temari could get ‘the look’ which lead him to believe at least this was a family trait. Slamming open a door Lee perked up from his place behind he desk.
“Well good afternoon Kazekage!” He cheerfully greeted.
Gaara slammed the door behind him, his hands flying threw six hand seals before he placed them flat to the wall sealing off all sound inside and out. Feeling only vaguely less paranoid he walked to the window, waved a hand signal to his ANBU he was sure were out there watching, and then blanketed the windows with sand. Satisfied there would be no ease dropping of any kind, he turned and looked at the bewildered bushy browed man at the desk.
“Lee I have something important to tell you as a friend seeking advise and secret keeping from another.” He announced.
Lee blinked before he grinned, “Yosh! Lay upon me all your secrets and I will passionately keep them to myself so that our bonds grow even stronger!”
Gaara’s sand gourd broke down and formed a chair to which he sat down on, “I have had multiple contact with Sasuke Uchiha.”
Gaara watched as the news flooded into his trusted friend’s mind, filtered through many different meanings, and then settled on the most likely one which had his face grow serious. It gave his heart a small panicked beat before he squashed down on the feeling and prepared for what was to follow.
“You have had him in your custody and let him go kind of contact?” Lee asked.
Gaara nodded.
Lee’s lips thinned out and Gaara grew concerned, ready for the back lash that was sure to follow. He knew it would cause pain, he knew it would and he was thankful he didn’t have Shukaku any longer or Lee could wind up dead. Lee surprised him however with his next question.
“Alright, why?”
“To be honest I wasn’t overly sure at first, I’m still not completely. I feel as if we share something that only I am ever only going to understand.”
Lee nodded, “do you know what that something is?”
“A twist.”
Lee’s large right brow lifted up under the bowl cut hair, “twist?”
“A sickness…a taste for… “ he struggled to put into words what he wanted to say.
Lee smiled at him, “your creepiness.”
Gaara looked up to see if that had been a slight against him or not, the look on Lee’s face was comical. He supposed it was true, he was a bit creepy at times. He chuckled for a moment which seemed to surprise and please the man in green.
“I guess that’s a good enough explanation.” He conceded.
“So why are you telling me this now?” Lee asked.
“Orochimaru has been killed, and when the investigation team showed up at one of the snake’s many dens they found nothing but death.”
Lee frowned but nodded for him to continue.
“Sasuke was not found, which means he’s still on whatever quest it is he is on. Not only that but.. I received a message.”
“Oh?”
Gaara nodded, “it was most definitely from that man. A snake, which isn’t uncommon here in these lands, but it slithered the wrong way as I passed it on the desert sands.”
Lee realized that the only one who would notice such things in a large expanse of desert would be his overly paranoid friend. Which also meant that Sasuke knew him well too to have come up with such an obscure way to contact him. This lead Lee to a conclusion he wasn’t sure he wanted to contemplate.
“What was the message?”
“That there were several other dens and the locations of such things. He wants me to take care of it.”
“But why you?” Lee asked.
Gaara looked away which was unusual for the sometimes overly blunt man, “I will be able to tell the difference between a monster and someone who is a victim.”
A light bulb clicked in Lee’s head, “I see.”
“Tsunade knows I am around him. That I have been.” Gaara added.
“Take care of her lost sheep,” Lee grinned. “I remember, I may not have known what the two of you were talking about at the time but I do now.”
“I am not sure I have made the right choices when concerning this nin.” Gaara confided.
Lee placed a hand on his shoulder and waited for the jade eyes to look up into his dark brown. He smiled and with his other hand fisted he gave him a thumbs up. It made Gaara feel much better, even if it still left him unsure of what he had done.
“Sometimes you have to follow the choices your heart wants you too. Naruto-kun lives his life that way, it seems he has taught you a valuable lesson my friend.” Lee told him.
Gaara’s hand rose to his chest unconsciously, “my heart?”
Lee jumped up and posed startling the redhead, “YES! You’re heart has told you to trust in the Uchiha. It wishes to bring passion to the world and draw you closer to those who will truly love you. Never allow anything else to deter you from your hearts path it is the most precious thing you have.”
Gaara blinked, “Lee…”
“NO! You must continue to listen it will always guide you where you need to go. The road may not be the easiest road but your passion and vigor will pull you through. You will be a better you for it! Find your most precious person and protect that individual to your fullest.” Lee continued tears beginning to fall from his eyes.
Gaara winced, even though he understood the words and they were wise. It was a little bit over the top in its delivery. Lee paused and became somber looking down into his eyes. The look Gaara was looking into was one of pained understanding.
“Even if they need to be saved from themselves.” He finished quietly.
“Thank you.”
“Don’t worry about it. Sometimes you have to tell someone.”
Gaara found Lee to be the one he could trust the most, not that he didn’t trust Naruto the one who had saved him. He trusted Naruto very much but the blond would feel betrayed, the blond would be hurt. That was something he wanted to avoid.
“Lee?”
“Yes Gaara-kun?”
The redhead winced, at least when they were in private he’d gotten him to become less formal.
“Be sure not to tell anyone about what I have said here today.”
Lee looked offended, “Gaara-kun!! I would never do such an un-youthful thing such as that!”
Gaara gave the man a small smile, “good then. If I need your help I can ask it of you yes?”
“That’s what friends are for!” Lee announced loudly.
Gaara shook his head, drawing in all his sand once more, removed the silencing jutsu, and left the room with a wave towards his friend. He felt a little better about everything, even if he was still confused on whether it had been his best idea. Now he had to call in Kankuro and talk to him about how they were going to go and infiltrate the snake holes with out being detected, apparently Kabuto was still alive.
**********
Sasuke had moments of blackness where he couldn’t remember what had really happened. Sure he would have snippets of information but nothing concrete which worried him. Not to mention his moods swings, while he had had them before they had been predictable, now they were not. He would feel moments of extreme rage and the next calculating coldness on how he would meet his goal.
Sometimes he remembered exactly what his goal was, defeat Akatsuki and return home victorious. Other times his mind would center around killing his brother, Itachi, for everything the man had done. Which was odd, because really he wasn’t so sure he wanted to do that anymore. Defeat him yes, but murderer him? That would make him his brother wouldn’t it?
He shook his head, one of the occasions of blankness was his fight with Orochimaru. He remembered the beginning of it, the fact the snake bastard was taunting to make Gaara his next pet and then it became fuzzy. He remembered the feel of immense power coursing through his body, the high that it brought him, and the thought of victory. He also remembered walking out and scaring the shit out of Kabuto.
After that it became fuzzy again and when he came to there was blood everywhere and he was opening certain cells and telling them to follow him. He now had a team of three, Karin Suigestsu, and Juugo. Juugo followed him like a lost dog which occasionally grated on his nerves and other times gave him a lot of sick joy. The only conclusion he could come up with was that Orochimaru was trapped somewhere within him and occasionally he peeked out. It was plausible.
“So what are we going to do?”
“Find my brother.” He told her.
She nodded and realized she was supposed to be using her sensing ability. Good thing she caught on quick or Sasuke would have smacked the shit out of her. Once realizing he was having another mood swing he reigned in on it and stewed before it passed. His chakra was fluctuating still, he had to get used to Orochimaru’s chakra with in him before it would return to normal.
************
There was something utterly wrong with his younger brother, but there was nothing to be had Itachi was being forced to fight. A fight he new the day he slaughtered the entire clan and left Sasuke alive would eventually come. It was alright though, he was ready to die hopefully Naruto would be able to save Sasuke as he planned to do. It was a silly unrealistic dream the blond demon host had, but the kid had enough spirit it could happen.
Highly unlikely, but the blond tended to make those sorts of things happen.
Sasuke came at him, madness in his eyes, and Itachi prepared for the final blow that would be coming. Yet just as his little brother was about to land that blow something flashed in those blood red eyes. Recognition, pain, betrayal, and horror. Horror was a little odd because it was self directed, and as the hit landed it landed on parts of him that would not kill him. Well right away anyway.
Sasuke turned to him as he turned to the younger man. Something was going on with his little brother. Something far more sinister that he had previously thought. He took a step closer and his brother’s eyes widened a fraction. Now that he thought about it and focused on the abnormality he realized her didn’t just feel his little brother.
He took another step and blood came up into his mouth the coppery tang almost making him gag and throw up. Itachi could not stop and vomit he had to reach his little brother. The feeling, the strange chakra, he recognized it as far to powerful for his brother to be having. He understood it as someone else’s, or at least it had been once.
“Sasuke…” whispered past lips that had no right uttering those syllables. Uttered from a redhead who was in the throws of dying as the demon was extracted.
He took another step and his heart seized up in his chest causing him to black out momentarily. He was almost there, so close, he had to make it. How had the beast gotten into his brother? The thing was locked away in the stone eyes with the others. Yet… here it was. Well now that he was closer it was all of the thing, only a part of it.
He smirked and rose a hand towards his brother forehead. He should have figured it out before this moment, maybe he could have gotten some assistance from that man. The man who had a darkness equal to that of his little brother. They quite possibly shared more now, which was how the demon had attached to Sasuke. He remember reading things about the lovers of demons. They took on their lover’s powers and helped keep them close, allowed them to reach out and touch from miles away.
His pointed finger touched his brother’s forehead and he understood the transaction between the two was not complete, not whole. The demon had more control over his brother than the man, some of that might have been the fact that the redhead lost his demon. Still…
He coughed and blood splattered over his brother, Sasuke’s eyes were comically wide and he was holding his breath. Itachi closed his eyes and spoke the words in his head that would give his brother his powers. He hadn’t originally planned to give his brother this, but now that he was here in this moment he realized his brother would need it.
His eyes now belonged to his brother. They were safer with him than the madman Madara Uchiha. The man he had been trying to over throw for years now. Maybe his brother could do it instead, he still had people who cared.
With that thought Itachi’s eyes rolled to the back of his head and he was no longer.
*******
Gaara’s heart hit his throat when he felt a familiar chakra call out to him from somewhere inside himself. Beside him Kankuro stopped and rose a brow at him and Gaara ignored him. Lee paused just behind them and waited patiently. The man had been assigned to help him with the task of getting rid of snake holes, he was able to carry those who were victims out fast enough and out of danger. Gaara didn’t care if they died because they were in the middle of it, he had to get shit done.
The hair on the back of his neck rose and he dashed off to the right, it had to be that man. Pushing chakra into his feet he leapt up onto the edge of the rock surface and continued up from there. He could feel two nins following him so he paid no mind if there was other danger they would take care of it.
Once to the top he ran forward his arms slack at his sides his hair pushed back by the force of wind he created as he pushed forward. He slid to a stop at the ledge of the cliff and down below him were the bodies of two Uchiha’s. He jumped off and just as he was about to hit the ground sand rose up around him cushioning him and lowered him to safety.
High above him he heard his brother curse, and Lee announce something about youth being awesome. He stepped forward carefully his sand spinning around him in deceptively lazy patterns as it was fully prepared to defend and attack. He glanced at Sasuke’s slumped form and frowned, there was something wrong about it, about him. He couldn’t place it though so he shook his head.
Kneeling down he pressed his fingers into Itachi’s pulse point on his neck and his eyes widened a fraction. The man was alive, but just barely his heat was struggling to keep the blood pumping. He looked over the body assessing the damage. It was mostly internal, but judging by the dark purple bruising it seemed Sasuke had tried not to kill his brother. The chakra scorched the pale flesh as if it had changed directory at the very last possible moment.
His brow furrowed, it meant Sasuke didn’t want his brother killed. He glanced over at the younger man in indecision chewing on the inside of his cheek. What to do? He looked back down at Itachi and his heart told him what needed to be done even as his logical clean and dry mind told him it was a fool’s errand and that he was making a pact with the devil.
The sound of pebble under foot alerted him and he was surprised to realize that he had noticed to late that someone not his team had been approaching him. He looked up into an orange mask and his eyes became cold the hot temperature around them seemingly dropping. Gaara had heard of this man, he could be and then could be gone in milliseconds. This posed problematic.
He rose and his sand wrapped around Itachi Uchiha when the man took a step towards him.
“He will be coming with me,” Gaara intoned.
“But Tobi needs him.” The man replied.
Somehow the fact that the man referred to himself in third person grated on his nerves. More so than Naruto’s loud mouth, Lee’s hyperactivity and ridiculous speeches, Kiba’s roughish charm, and Neji’s know it all. More so than his dead father’s cruel love for the hidden village of sand and lack of it towards his youngest son.
Gaara didn’t make a sound but his eyes darkened with hateful intent. Make a move and try to get him he dared this “Tobi”.
The man stepped back, the one eye peeking out calculating and deciding he would have to cut his losses. Gaara could tell he wasn’t happy, but he grabbed onto Sasuke. The redhead had to use restraint that he didn’t even know he had to keep himself from giving anything away. Sasuke had a mission, he was sure of it, to complete.
“Well Tobi will take this one then. Tobi is a smart boy like that.” Then both of them were gone.
Gaara heart sank, once again Sasuke was no longer there. He looked back over at the older one and sighed. He was now in the middle of a fucking huge ass mess. The redhead missed his simple life.
He had to get the man to his village so the Suna medico could take care of him. They wouldn’t do as good as say Sakura or Tsunade could, but then the man would more than likely be sentenced to death. He growled, but turned to get back to his brother and Lee. He wanted to hit something hard and watch it bleed, but that would have to wait.
************
Gaara stared up at the night sky, and the thousands of stars there in, his eyes blank but his mind and heart heavy. He still wondered if taking in Itachi had been the right way to go, what if Sasuke had wanted him dead? Not only that but what would Leaf do if they found out? He could be destroying so many bonds and for what?
The hope that it would draw the Uchiha closer to him? What kind of reason was that anyway. It wasn’t a good enough one he knew that but…
Lee had told him to follow what his heart told him to do. Wouldn’t that mean doing exactly what he was doing? Gaara closed his eyes and sighed, his life had been so much easier when he had only loved himself. Yet his life had been blank just like him, only marked with blood.
Turning he gave up on star gazing and thinking, he needed rest or he was going to loose it from his heart calling out for a certain raven haired man. No matter how hard he tried to deny it, he only wished to find that man and understand what was going on. If he was okay or not, and would he ever be able to return home.
*****
Shukaku turned in a circle trying to figure out where his ‘host’ was. The land around him continually moved and shifted and he sneered at it. He couldn’t have asked for a better temporary host, the human was perfectly fucked up. He would be able to morph him into himself and escape soon, it was already starting to happen. Oddly the disgusting human had more back bone and stubbornness than he originally anticipated.
No matter he was already starting to let go of hope, killing his brother only got him one step closer to allowing Shukaku to take him. The more the Uchiha drew upon him the more powerful he would become until he finally consumed the stupid brat. The best way to do this of course was in sleep, and yet the damn creature was nowhere in site.
Shukaku growled feeling as if something was interfering, drawing the host elsewhere towards protection. Yet what could it be? It wasn’t like the human even knew he was present at least not yet and when he did he wouldn’t care. That was the plan, but first he had to get him while he slept, make him unstable and weak. Get him begging to take over and stop the pain.
The demon grinned its jagged teeth jutting out white from the shadow that it was. Gold eyes shifted around trying to decide on a direction, the place was a mess. He was old though, if he concentrated long and hard, no matter the interference, he would find his victim.
Sasuke slowly opened his eyes and realized he was sleeping. It was always like that for a ninja it took some of the mystery out of sleeping but a nin could never be caught unaware, not even in his dreams. His eyes hurt, he’d used them to much in his battle with his brother. He fought his brother, and killed him in the end. He was now a murderer.
Slowly he sat up from his pretend bed his legs sliding off the side to press into what felt like sand. He blinked and the world around him came into focus. Black sand dunes for as far as the eye could see. Rising from the bed it faded away like things do whilst one dreamt and he began walking towards the distance curious to see how far this waste land went.
The sand was cool under his bare feet and was strangely smooth like the sand of a certain someone he could almost recall. As he continued to walk the sand dunes seemed to slip past him as if he were running a great distance but he knew he was just walking. Concept of time never mattered when you were in the world of your mind.
Cresting a sand dune the world around him settled and formed a river right before his eyes. Yet it was one of red that sloshed at the shore like regular water, yet he knew it to be blood. Fish swam beneath its currents coming and going from the top. The river was wide and separated him from the other side of it separated him from…
His dark eyes widened when they came into contact with confused and surprised sea green. The redhead blinked and looked around as if trying to figure how to get closer as he did himself. He suddenly remembered that Gaara was the one who controlled the sand, the one he thought about constantly, the one who probably understood him best. He needed to be next to the man, even if this was a dream.
In the distance he could make out something that looked like a bridge or maybe the land coming closer together. That would do just fine. He began walking towards it as the redhead followed him and as they walked their bodies began to shift and change becoming smaller as they got closer to where they wanted to be.
Gaara’s clothes shrank around him the black sleep pants forming around his ever decreasing size. He glanced down at himself and realized his clothes were doing the same until finally they stood on the small ends of the shore a small trickle of water the size of his small foot between them. He looked up and gazed upon a small child his head seemingly so much bigger than his body or the raggedy teddy that he carried.
Sasuke smiled and went to touch him just as he did the same only to be stopped by some sort of invisible barrier. He glanced into jade and saw that he too could not reach and was upset by this. So in the end the dream would keep him alone, how fitting for someone like himself.
He could feel the tears welling up in his eyes, he would not cry he was not the small child he appeared to be. It came as a shock when the other child placed a hand over his flat one he could feel the warmth no matter how little against his hand. Maybe they couldn’t touch but… possibly they could talk.
Sasuke suddenly felt the urge to tell his Gaara everything in his heart. All the hurt, loneliness, and dirty secrets he had. This clear mirror smooth and cool that seemed to reflect the redhead back at him could not stop him from telling the kid how he felt. He opened his mouth and began.
“I miss you so much I wish we could be closer.”
When he looked up at the boy again he realized a very horrifying thought. The redhead could not hear him. The child was shaking his head and pointing to his ear. No, no this was not fair. He needed comfort, he needed to talk, and now he could not. Sasuke felt the tears begin to fall as he let his hand drop and sobbed. He was so tried of being alone.
He looked back up as he wiped at his eyes the tears not stopping and saw that he too could not hear what the boy was saying but he could read the lips. He was just as upset by all this his eyes watery as well.
“Can you read lips?” Sasuke asked slowly.
Gaara nodded and Sasuke felt some relief flood him before his other feelings came back. Pressing his hands back against the glass, tears falling down his cheeks he told this Gaara his secrets.
“I want to come home, I’m tired of playing ninja. I want to be me again.” He announced with anguish which only caused him to choke on a sob.
Gaara’s eyes widened and he pressed his hands against the glass too his eyes softening in understanding. Sasuke felt some comfort from the barely there warmth.
“I want to come home, but I can’t. Nobody wants me. I want to go back, I want my mommy. My brother, my father…” he sobbed wondering briefly if the boy could even tell what he was saying anymore.
He supposed he shouldn’t be crying like this, he was in actuality a grown man who had killed his own brother. A man who had propositioned himself out like a whore to get to a snake and them hopefully Akatsuki. A man who had betrayed his friends’ faith in him for the good of a nation, possibly several. He was now a broken man, with nowhere left to go. Who would want someone like him the way he was?
Still it was a dream, his dream and he could sob here and no one would ever know of this weakness inside himself.
“I’m so tired, I want to come home!” He wailed slamming himself into the barrier his face now down turned.
Suddenly he could feel the pounding vibrate the wall that wasn’t and was there between them. He looked up to see that Gaara was no longer the child but a man. His teeth clenched and showing as he came to a stop on his pounding, his dark green eyes half closed in pain. Then Sasuke realized he too was no longer a child and he pressed himself into the glass praying he could feel that skin against his.
It was no use, he was alone and this was a dream. A cruel dream that wished only to eat him alive. The thought made his shoulders shake with tears he could no longer shed but where still in his eyes.
“I want to come home, I want my friends back, I’m so tired. I can’t though no body wants me this filthy thing I’ve become.” He confessed to the redhead who’s face contorted into a grimace of pain at his words.
Sasuke’s eyes widened when he read the words from those lips he had once pressed his own against.
“Come home, come home to me.” the redhead begged though how he knew without any sound he would never know.
This, this couldn’t be true. The real Gaara would never say such things would he? Yet he wouldn’t usually cry either. No, no this was a dream. Yet his heart seemed to tug and beat with a feeling he hadn’t felt in so long, hope.
“I will wait forever, just come home to me.” the redhead said wordlessly. “Come home, home to me.”
Now he was so confused, his dream wasn’t making dream sense anymore. Did that mean it was real, no it couldn’t be. This Gaara wasn’t his Gaara, his Gaara wouldn’t be so open he wouldn’t be… Yet, yet Gaara had said something similar. He wanted to believe in something besides himself. Yes the man had said that but… no no this couldn’t be his Gaara.
He shook his head, and the red head frowned before sand formed a knife in his right hand. Sasuke watched as the redhead slit the skin across his left wrist the red swelling up immediately. Discarding the sand as if it had never been there to begin with his fingers dipped into the red.
While his heart pounded in his chest and sweat seemed to break out across his skin, the man wrote the same kanji that was carved into his forehead between them backwards so he could read it clearly. His obsidian eyes widened when the man finished and pointed at him. Then placed his hands flat against the pane again.
“I will wait, just come home when you are able.” He said.
Sasuke nodded and placed his hands over the redhead’s, this might be a dream but now Sasuke felt less alone. He was about to tell the man that when green eyes looked over his shoulder and widened in surprise. Wondering what the problem was he looked over his own shoulder and spotted a looming shadow and gold eyes gleaming hatefully back at him from the middle of the large mass.
He turned back to the redhead, who’s eyes had hardened and focused on the ones of gold, to tell him to run. Before he could the shadow wrapped around his torso and pulled him away from where he wanted to be. As the thing pulled him away he could feel himself turn back into the child he could feel the fear rush through his body and he cried out.
“NO!”
His voice was drowned out by the loud haunting laughter that came from a mouth outlined by teeth. The power made his stomach twist up, and made it hard to breath. His vision started to go blurry once more. He looked to his best friend, the one who knew him best and saw through fuzzy vision the man make a bunch of seals with his hands.
Sasuke couldn’t remembered what any of that meant couldn’t remember the technique the redhead was conjuring. Hands flattened against the wall that wasn’t really there but was at the same time causing the beast to roar and slam up against it. A smirk slid over the features of his Gaara, a look he knew well and then he couldn’t see anything.
His feelings of fear and comfort slowly faded away into anger and betrayal memories of his family’s massacre flitting across the blackness. He was nothing, nothing but darkness…
Gaara sat up in bed his eyes snapping open, body covered in sweat and stomach twisted up in knots. His heart twanged beats of pain and he couldn’t remember why. His dream had been, had been what? He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, it woke him up more but did nothing for the feeling of dread that washed over him.
Knowing that he wouldn’t be going back to sleep, and realizing he shouldn’t anyway, he slid out of bed. Carefully he walked up towards the roof and once there looked out over his village towards the horizon. The sun was just coming up and cresting the land turning dark to light in the distance.
Lee stood by the door and watched Gaara stand and stare longingly out into the world in nothing but black pants. It was odd to see the man so open and well… sad. Carefully he made his way towards him and stopped just behind him. Afraid to break the silence, as it could close the redhead off he kept quite. Something he usually never did, but something about this moment called for somber.
“Lee?” Gaara’s baritone voice murmured.
“Yes Gaara-kun?”
Lee watched a pale hand reach up and touch a bare chest, “do you still believe the best path is the one the heart leads you through?”
“Of course! It is the only way that one can live their life to its fullest and have it be true.” Lee replied back without skipping a beat.
“Then something very wrong is going to happen.”
“Is that what yours is telling you?” Lee asked
Gaara shook his head, “no, it feels like darkness is settling in.”
Lee paused and thought about that and then he took a guess, “over the younger Uchiha…”
Gaara turned and looked at him and when their eyes locked on, no more words were needed. Lee understood what all Gaara was thinking about. He might not know the why but he understood what was going on in there. He rose his bandaged hand and placed it on the redhead’s shoulder and gave it a reassuring squeeze.
After a few moments of silence Lee spoke up, “so I guess it is time to prepare for the day. Lots of things to prepare for.”
Gaara turned as did Lee and headed back into the building. Lee was right he had many things to do, one of them being a message to the Lady Hokage about how he had a Bingo Book rogue nin in his position and not at the same time. It was going to be tricky he would have to come up with a completely plausible reason that was easily enough a complete and utter lie. He was confidant enough that she would go with it, she would be her usual busty and pissy self about it but she wouldn’t go against him.
So much to do…
“Lee,” he stated.
“Yes Gaara-sama!”
“Since you and I tied in our last spar you owe have of your Hokage’s debt. I propose that I pay for it all, but that you work for free to pay off your half.”
Lee grimaced, he’d seen the entirety of the debt it was no small amount. “I guess I will be working for no pay for quite awhile then.”
Gaara smirked, “not necessarily. I may just challenge her to another match.”
Lee brightened at the prospect and patted him on the back roughly, “that’s the youthful spirit Gaara-sama!”
Yes another match and he would use his information on Itachi to throw off her game. It was a pleasantly perfect idea. Now all he needed was his elders to back up the story he had forming in his mind.
