Your Choices, My Pain Ch. 6

Sasuke woke several times during his nap, feeling Naruto against him and couldn’t help but smile each time the blonde got a bit more comfortable against him. It was getting darker outside and thus, colder so he figured it would probably be best to turn up the heat. He gently moved Naruto so that he could get up and settled the scarred man against the couch before slowly making his way to the thermostat, still a bit groggy as he moved.

After that was accomplished, he decided it was probably a good time to make something to eat for the evening. It had been a few hours since they had lunch and he was getting a bit hungry again.

The raven headed into the living room and picked up the tray that contained their dishes from lunch and placed them in the sink as he stepped into the kitchen. He wasn't sure what the blonde liked besides ramen, so he decided on a simple chicken and vegetable dish that he whipped up pretty quickly.

While he cooked, he thought about the situation at hand. If Naruto really was willing to leave Sai and be with him, what would Sai do? He knew the man wouldn’t just lie down and take it. Sai was a pretty powerful Shinobi, being in the Black Opps proved that much and he was a former member of Root which also deemed him even more powerful than the regular ANBU. Since the Uchiha wasn't allowed any use of his chakra skills, he wasn't sure what he would do if it came down to defending Naruto, not that the blonde was helpless, he'd proven himself to Sasuke many times in their youth and even later when they became older. He had to admit that Naruto surpassed him in strength and probably skill as well, being trained by some great Shinobi.

Sighing at his dilemma, he turned off the burners to the stove and placed two clean plates back on the tray before loading them up with the simple stir fry and went about to make another batch of black tea.

While the water was boiling he went back out into the living room to check on his friend, who it seemed, was still sleeping and had not been aware of Sasuke's leaving. Satisfied, the spiky haired man headed back into the kitchen and turned off the kettle before it made too much of a racket and let the leaves sit to steep.

Maybe he could talk to Tsunade and ask if he could have her permission to use his skills if the blonde was in danger... Naruto was her favorite, surely she'd see how important it was? Mind made up, he planned to talk to her the next day on one of his breaks from the restaurant.

He poured the tea into the same cups he used earlier and carried the tray into the living room once more, setting it down on the coffee table as he did that afternoon and sat next to the sleeping blonde.

Sasuke ran a hand gently over Naruto's unbroken cheek and leaned down to gently kiss his friend before running that same hand down Naruto's arm in a comforting gesture. It was so nice to have him there, it was everything he'd ever wanted from Naruto and now that he had him, it was almost too good.

Naruto had been in too deep of a sleep to be roused by Sasuke moving out from underneath him and once he was settled back down on the couch he just gave a soft sigh and curled up before he went back to snoring softly. He remained sleeping for a while, though when Sasuke returned and touched him gently then kissed him he stirred from his slumber. He made a bit of a noise before he opened his sleepy blue eyes, blinking slowly up at Sasuke. " Mm...Sasuke.." he murmured lightly before yawning.

"Hey." Sasuke said as he leaned back to let Naruto have a bit of room. "I made dinner for us. I wasn't sure what else you liked so I made a chicken stir fry if you're hungry." Sasuke thought that if ever a day came when Naruto would in fact return his feelings that it would be an awkward few days afterward. But that was not so, Sasuke felt very comfortable around Naruto, like they had been together forever, it was a strange and yet comforting feeling to know he was out of that awkward stage, even if his social skills lacked still.

Naruto gave a soft smile as he looked up at Sasuke, then sat up and rubbed his eyes a bit once Sasuke gave him a bit of room. His stomach then gave a loud growl and his face flushed lightly at the sound before he chuckled and grinned widely.

" Guess my stomach decided for me.." he said before smirking, "Chicken stir fry sounds great.."

Sasuke smiled at Naruto's humor and shook his head. He guessed the blonde hadn't change much in that regard but he had changed in other ways. He picked up one of the plates and handed to the blonde along with a pair of chopsticks once Naruto sat up.

"You know... I think you’re a great person, for accomplishing all that you have." He turned away a bit, not used to spilling his feelings. "I'm really amazed at how far you've come Naruto, from what you were when we were 12. You've done so much for people and never judged anyone. I really admire you for that." He took a bite of his meal, needing something to occupy himself in his uncomfortable state.

Naruto began to dig in once he had the chopsticks, enjoying the flavor. It was incredibly good, just like everything Sasuke made that he'd tried. He made approving noises as he ate and licked his lips before he looked at Sasuke as he spoke.

He swallowed the mouthful he had before feeling his cheeks redden once again . " Ahh...well I guess...I just do what comes natural to me.." he said lightly and rubbed the back of his head a bit, " And well...I spent most of my life being judged by the village...for being what I am...so I know what it's like..."

Sasuke sighed and looked down at his food. "I guess I can't really understand. I was judged too, but for different reasons... I know people feared you; that they wouldn't let their kids play with you, my parents were no different. But I knew you weren't dangerous... “He sighed again before setting his plate down, not too hungry anymore.”I was judged by everyone because of who my family was. I was expected to live up to my name, kind of a predisposition. It put a lot of pressure on me especially seeing how my brother was treated compared to me. He seemed to get all the praise and attention." He chuckled and leaned back against the couch. "Sorry, I don’t know why I keep talking about my life..."

Naruto smiled lightly before he shook his head. “It’s ok, I like to hear what you have to say Sasuke..." he said before he slowly ate his food, enjoying the tea as well that Sasuke had made for them." I think you did well living up to your name....you've become a very powerful shinobi. Even if you can't use your skills anymore.."

Naruto sighed before he smiled weakly, " Guess we both had crappy childhoods...but at least we had each other. "

"How can you say I'm a great shinobi when I've done such horrible things? You have no idea how much guilt and regret I have, for everything I've done..." He sighed and leaned against Naruto, his head resting on the blonde's shoulder, still allowing the man to eat. "It's hard to live with myself sometimes. To know how much pain and suffering I must have caused from my selfishness."

Naruto shook his head at Sasuke's words, swallowing his mouthful of food. " You've made mistakes Sasuke...everyone does...and it’s because you have guilt and regret that you're a good person..." he said before wrapping an arm around Sasuke's shoulders as he rested his head against him.

" It’s not all your fault either...you were lied to and manipulated so much..." he said softly, " and you suffered so much...if I were in your position I probably would have done the same thing. "

Sasuke had to admit that it made him feel better knowing that Naruto was defending him. He had never had that before and up until then he had been wallowing in his self-pity ever since he had returned to Konoha.

"I guess you're right. But I just wish things could have been different... that no one would have had to sacrifice their lives just to protect someone they loved more than anything..." It was a fact that Sasuke hadn't quite gotten over the death of Itachi. It was a hard subject and the regret laid heavily on his mind whenever he thought of his older brother. "I can never have back what I've lost... And it was because of me that I lost the one person who cared about me most... Who just wanted to protect me."

Naruto gave a soft sigh before he frowned as he took Sasuke's hand gently and squeezed it. " I wish that too Sasuke....I wish that the world could live in peace...and sometimes I wish that shinobi were no longer needed...but I doubt that will ever come to pass.." he said softly. " I also wish that I could bring Itachi back for you..." he said, knowing that Sasuke still mourned his brother. He wished he could do something to help Sasuke.

Sasuke wrapped an arm around Naruto’s waist and buried his face against the blonde, letting tears fall once more. "I just miss him so much..."

Naruto wrapped his arms around Sasuke and held him close, resting his head against Sasuke's as he let the raven cry against him. He gently ran his fingers through his hair to try and comfort Sasuke. He knew at least partly how the raven felt, he had been torn inside out when Sasuke had left the village...and him behind but he had a second chance now and his friend was back with him...but Sasuke would never get Itachi back no matter how badly he wanted it.

"Even though he isn't here...he is still with you...I'm sure of that..." he said softly, " You'll get too see him again.."

Sasuke said nothing as he let himself calm down, loving the touches to his hair and the arms around him. It was a change to have someone actually being there to comfort him when things were too much to deal with.

"Thanks." he said quietly as he wiped his eyes, a bit embarrassed again. He gave a small smile but didn't pull away from the embrace.

Naruto felt Sasuke calming down as he comforted him and he was glad that he could be here for Sasuke when he needed it. He realized now how cruel it would have been to totally cut Sasuke from his life....Sasuke would have suffered so much if he had. Naruto was pretty much the last person he had and both needed each other more then they knew. " You're welcome Sasuke.." he said softly and smiled lightly, " I promise...I'll be here for you whenever you need me.."

Sasuke's smile grew at Naruto's words. It had been so long since he truly smiled but they usually were only for Naruto as of late. He kissed a scarred cheek before picking up his plate once more to nibble at his food, still not too hungry but he figured it would be best to eat and not be hungry later.

Naruto grinned back at Sasuke, glad that he got the raven to smile before blushing at the soft kiss to his cheek.

“Hm, thank you for dinner Sasuke...it’s very good as always...” he said and smiled brightly.

"It's not a problem. It's what I love to do." He shrugged off the praise, so used to it being thrown at him at his restaurant that it was a bit redundant. Although he did love it when Naruto complimented him and he shook his head slightly. "I usually don't make stuff like this at the restaurant... It's nice to make something different for someone else."

Naruto finished his last bite before setting down his chopsticks and picked up his mug of tea. " Hm..well I really enjoyed it..." he said and chuckled lightly. " Hm...though tomorrow I can get supper cooked for you for when you get home from work...it must be kind of tiring to cook all day then come home and cook some more for supper.."

Sasuke smiled but shook his head. "You don't have to do anything. I really don't mind cooking. Plus, you deserve to relax. I guess if you really wanted, you could help me when I get home..."

Naruto smiled widely at Sasuke before he nodded. " Sure...I wouldn't mind helping you cook when you get home..." he said before he sipped at his tea, enjoying the taste.

Sasuke smiled back and took another sip of his tea as well. The liquid was now cold due to his breakdown and leaving it untouched. He decided not to finish it and stood up. "I'm going to do the dishes... Did you want more tea?" He handed Naruto the remote to the television, an investment he was glad of making. Living alone, it was pretty damn quiet and he could only take so much reading. "You can watch TV if you want."

Naruto shook his head at Sasuke's question. " No, I'm good, thanks..." he said after finishing his tea and setting it on the tray for Sasuke to take. He took the remote for the TV. and settled into the couch and turned on the TV.

The raven took the tray into the kitchen and began filling up the sink with hot water after adding some soap. It was nice to have someone else in the house, knowing he'd have someone to cuddle with after he was done cleaning up everything. He hoped Naruto would stay for a while and if it did come about that Sai tried to reclaim the blonde, whom Sasuke was almost certain of, he knew he'd be ready for the confrontation.

Naruto relaxed as he looked for something good to watch, yawning as he found something that seemed at least somewhat interesting and settled on that for a while; though he wasn't totally paying attention to the TV. He was listening to the sound of dishes as Sasuke washed them in the kitchen. In an odd way, he was partly glad that Sai had beaten him like he had...it made him realize what he had been doing to Sasuke was wrong and at least now he could make up for that.

Eventually Sasuke had finished the dishes and put the last one away before drying off his hands and headed back into the living room. He sat on the couch next to the blonde and brought the man against his chest as he wrapped his arms around Naruto.

"Find anything good?" he asked as he looked at the TV.

Naruto glanced up at Sasuke as he returned from washing the dishes and he smiled as the man sat down on the couch next to him and wrapped his arms around him. He curled up to Sasuke and leaned his head against his shoulder. " Hm...oh..I wasn't paying too much attention I guess...I'm not really sure what I settled on.." he chuckled. It seemed he'd found a horror movie about some sort of creature that was attacking and killing people.

Sasuke just chuckled and pulled the man closer to him. "It's so nice having you here." He kissed Naruto's temple gently and ran his hand over the blonde's marked stomach gently.

Naruto smiled and closed his eyes as Sasuke kissed his temple and he purred lightly at the contact before Sasuke's hand caressed his stomach. Naruto licked his lips a bit and made a soft noise at the feel of Sasuke's touch., " Mm...I'm glad to be here...."

They stayed silent for a bit, just basking in each other's company and pretending to watch the movie, but being more interested in each other. It didn't take long for Sasuke to begin kissing Naruto's neck again, loving the way the man shivered underneath his lips and couldn’t get enough. He never meant it to go as far as it did looking back, but he knew it was worth it in the end.

Naruto licked his lips and tilted his head back against the couch as Sasuke’s lips caressed down his neck, soft noises of approval leaving his own lips. "Let me take the bandages off, your cuts are pretty much healed so you don’t have to worry about soap getting into them, just be careful with your cheek." The Uchiha gently touched Naruto's damaged cheek and began to unwrap the bandages he had put on that morning.

Naruto Sasuke remove the white pieces of fabric not feeling any pain at all really. It didn't really hurt to have them removed since Sakura did a good job at healing him so he didn't even flinch when Sasuke took them off. It was more of a relief to have them off, he felt less constricted now.

Sasuke stripped his soiled clothing before turning on the shower and getting it to the perfect temperature before pulling the curtain back a bit and got in, holding the curtain back a bit further for Naruto to enter as well.

Naruto felt his cheeks blush as Sasuke stripped his clothes off and he followed suit. He felt a bit self conscious about being fully naked in front of Sasuke, despite how stupid it was to be so. He let his eyes glance over Sasuke as he stood holding the curtain open for him before he followed him into the shower that was already starting to steam up the small space.

Sasuke noted for the first time how skinny the blonde had gotten over the time he had been with Sai. Since Naruto didn't go out on missions or even trained anymore the man had lost a lot of muscle mass. The raven noticed the blush to Naruto's cheeks but said nothing, not embarrassed at all with his nudity and handed the blonde the shampoo.

"Do you think you'll ever go out on missions again?" he asked suddenly, needing to fill the silence. Usually he was fine with the quiet, but when Naruto was quiet, Sasuke tended to feel a bit off-ease.

Once Naruto was under the hot spray of the shower and the water rained down on him he gave a soft sigh and relaxed, closing his eyes as he enjoyed the feel of the water on him. He opened his eyes to glance at Sasuke, taking the shampoo from him before he squeezed some in his hand to lather into his hair.

"I...don't know really....I did enjoy being a shinobi..." he said softly, " I think I'll need to do a lot of training again before I can even think about it though.." He quickly lathered the shampoo into his hair, closing his eyes once again to keep soap from getting in them.

Sasuke could have kicked himself for his sudden bout of awkwardness. He grabbed the soap and squeezed a bit of the gel onto his fluffy sponge before approaching the blonde and began to gently wash his friend's back, loving the feel of Naruto's skin against his finger tips.

Sasuke smiled and continued with his task until he turned the blonde around and handed him the soap. "I'm sure you can handle the rest." he said with a wink, not wanting to get Naruto too excited. One step at a time was better than rushing into anything.

Naruto smiled brightly back at Sasuke before he chuckled and nodded. "Oh yea...I'm capable of that...." he said, " I..can help wash your back if you wish.." He continued on washing himself, gazing at Sasuke as he waited for the Uchiha to reply.

Sasuke just shook his head. "Why not." he said before turning around, his back facing the blonde as he began to lather his hair with conditioner.

Naruto quickly went to work washing Sasuke's back, using the sponge to thoroughly lather up soap over Sasuke's pale skin. He admired his flawless complexion and enjoyed the way Sasuke's skin felt beneath his fingertips. His flesh felt so soft and warm, he couldn't help but blush lightly.

Once he was finished he reluctantly pulled away from the raven. " There.....all done.." he said before he took some shampoo to wash out his hair as well. He lathered the suds into his spiky hair which had flattened out considerably under the hot spray.

“Thanks.” The raven rinsed his hair and washed the rest of his body quickly before stepping out. “You can take as long as you need.” he said as he wrapped a towel around his waist. “I’m going to find you something to wear for when you get out.” With that, he made his way out of the bathroom, needing to get away before he jumped the other.

Naruto blinked at Sasuke before he nodded a bit. " Alright Sasuke.." he said before he watched the other leave. He had to say he was a bit glad, he too was having a bit of a hard time keeping himself from going further with Sasuke.

He took a few more minutes by himself in the shower to wash up and rinse the shampoo from his hair before he shut off the water and stepped out, grabbing a towel as well. He secured it around his waist and then headed out of the bathroom to find Sasuke, heading to the raven's bedroom.

Sasuke sat on his bed as he dried his hair with an extra towel he took from the linen closet, for some reason feeling uncomfortable around Naruto in the nude. It wasn't that he was shy, he just didn't want to seem too eager to start anything. Of course he wanted a relationship with the other man, but he had to face it, Naruto still had feelings for Sai, being with someone that long, it was hard to just make feelings disappear, but he knew Naruto wanted to be with him and he took comfort in that.

He saw the blonde enter his room and he smiled. "Here" was all he said before holding out a neatly folded pair of cotton pants and a sweatshirt.

"It's pretty cold tonight but I have some extra blankets if we need them." he thought on that for a moment. Now that Naruto was coherent again, would he be opposed to sharing a bed? "Um... You can sleep in here with me again if you want. If you don't I understand, I'll take the couch if you prefer..."

Naruto watched Sasuke dry his hair for a few moments before he took the clothes that the raven had given him. " Thanks..." he said before he let the towel fall to the ground and proceeded to dress in the sweatpants and sweatshirt.

He glanced at Sasuke as he spoke before he shook his head. " I don't want to take your bed from you...we can share it, I don't mind.." he said and smiled as he took a seat on it next to Sasuke.

The raven just smiled before standing to dress in warm clothing as well. He went to the closet to get another thick blanket, even with the heater running throughout the house it was still a bit cold. Pulling the blankets back from the made bed Sasuke sat on the edge and waited for Naruto to get in on the other side before pulling his legs up.


Once Sasuke sat on the bed, Naruto quickly joined him and slipped in underneath the covers. He laid down facing Sasuke, yawning loudly before curling up. It felt nice to be under the covers and toasty warm.

“Goodnight Sasuke...” he said, purring softly. It wasn't long before he felt sleep tugging at him as he lay next to the raven, despite sleeping most of the day away he was still rather exhausted from everything that had happened.

Sasuke turned off the side lamp and lay down as well, wrapping his arms in a protective manner around Naruto's waist.

"Goodnight Naruto." he said as he placed a gentle kiss to the blonde's forehead and fell asleep.
