A Mother's Heart, A Child's Soul
Kusakage, Temari, Kazekage, Gaara, Yukikage, Hinata, and lastly, Hokage, Naruto all stood in his office nervously.
”Alright, I’ve established twenty ANBU to secure the perimeter. Please, present now your pieces of Gobi No Houkou’s Talisman. Temari-San, the Jewel of Gobi, please.” Naruto said.
Temari reached into her kimono and pulled out the element of Gobi representing Metal: a long, silver chain said to have been wrapped around Gobi’s neck to keep all of his powers in check. She placed it on the table and bowed, saying a prayer;
“Chain of Metal, used to contain Gobi’s true powers, I release you from your bonds.”
The chain glowed for a moment and then returned to normal. The sealing spell had allowed it so that only Temari could touch it. Anyone else who wasn’t Temari or hadn’t learned the proper sealing technique was subjected to a chakra barrier that could kill anyone else. Gaara was next. He opened his large sand gourd and pulled out the second part of the talisman; the Tail of Gobi, which represented the element of Water. It was no larger than the foot-long Chain of Gobi that his older sister possessed. It was shaped, however, just like a fox’s tail.
“Tail Of Gobi, said to cause storms of all caliber around the world with just a mighty swipe, I release you from your bonds,” he sighed.
The item glowed and Hinata was the next to offer her item. She’d tucked it away in the sleeve of her kimono.
“Eye Of Gobi, seeing all and knowing all, housing the power of Byakko’s ice and snow powers, I release you from your bonds.”
Everyone looked Naruto who removed his shinobi headband and from behind the metal plate, pulling out the fourth piece of the Talisman; the Fang Of Gobi that represented the element of fire.
”Fang Of Gobi, housing the mighty power of Kyuubi’s Flame, I release you from your bonds.”
That was it. All the pieces of the Talisman had been restored. Almost.
“Wait a second…I thought there was five pieces. Hinata, where’s the Paw of Gobi? The one that represents the element of Earth?”
Hinata’s eyes widened and she shook her head.
”I have it to Neji…”
This was bad. While it only seemed right to give the final piece of the talisman to Neji, seeing how it had been given to him by his father during his moment of revival, they needed it and NOW.
“Hinata, you need to get it back from Neji this instance,” Naruto told her.
“Where was he last?”
“He was staying at TenTen’s old house. The one he moved into when he left the Hyuuga estate,” Hinata replied, answer the Kusakage’s question.
Hinata had turned to leave when the door to the Kage’s office opened and Neji walked in.
”There you are!” Naruto said relieved.
”I hate to tell you this…but I don’t have the Paw of Gobi any longer.”
Everyone fell as silent as death.
”If you don’t have it, then who does?” Gaara asked, slightly irritated.
“I buried it with my father’s ashes, however, went I went for it this morning, it was gone. The ground showed no sign of being disturbed, either.”
”Are you telling me that thing just vanished into thin air?!”
”It would appear so.” Neji replied, looking at Temari.
Naruto sighed heavily. Great, they were minus one piece of the Talisman and for all he knew, Hanzori had it. But, even Hanzori wasn’t smooth enough to disturb a grave, much less leave the ground looking untouched. If it was buried there, it should have stayed there.
“If I may, Naruto,” Neji began.
”Go ahead.”
”I heard a rumor about the Paw of Gobi that I read in an old, old scroll just recently; the scoll stated that the Paw of Gobi, should it come in contact with any type of soil, will be absorbed into the Earth. Once purified by earth, it would seek out that with a pure heart. However, it was also said that the Paw of Gobi had the power to seek out the remaining pieces of the talisman and call them to it, when provoked.”
Hinata and Naruto froze upon hearing the part about it seeking out a pure heart. Now, everything was starting to make a little more sense, but it terrified them nonetheless.
”What did it mean when it said it would ‘seek out’ a pure heart?” Hinata asked.
”I guess it means it’ll fall into their possession. It didn’t specify.” Neji sighed.
“Hinata, where did you leave Hikaru this morning?”
”Oh, I can answer that question; on the way here, I saw him playing at Ino’s with my son, Yotsuba.” Temari nodded with a small smile.
“This meeting is adjourned for now. Everyone take back your pieces of the talisman and seal them instantly. Make sure they are never out of your sight.”
Everyone did as the Hokage did, sealing their items the moment they were back in their respected Kage’s hand. Naruto dismissed everyone, including the ANBU stationed around his office. He had some more paperwork to do, mostly with sending the up and coming shinobi and kunoichi on team missions, so he sent Hinata on his way, letting her know to be wary of her brother. She didn’t need to be told twice. Temari walked with Hinata to Ino’s, highly amused at the sight when they arrived. Choji had expanded his body and now the two children were jumping on him like a big trampoline. Chouji seemed to be enjoying every moment of it. Ino was in the midst of a new flower arrangement when Hinata and Temari made themselves known.
”Konnichiwa, Ino-San.”
Ino turned with a bright smile, greeting her two friends.
”Welcome! How did the meeting go?”
”We’ve got our work cut out for us.” Temari sighed, sitting down for a minute.
”Thank you so much for watching Hikaru and Yotsuba-Chan for us.”
”Always glad to. Yotsuba certainly got friendly with Chouji and I in a hurry.”
”It’s because he knows you and Chouji-Kun were all great friends and on the same team.” Temari smiled.
Hinata, Ino and Temari watched as Chouji turned back to his normal size when the kids were in mid-air and caught them when they came down again. Temari had to admit, the only time Yotsuba was that nice or friendly was when he was with Shikamaru or herself. She seriously considered moving to Konoha, several times, actually, but when Shikamaru moved with her, she was more than happy.
“Oh, before I forget, Hinata-Chan,”
Ino handed her a bag of special herbs.
”This is for your training. I really hope you do well during the Kage exams. We’ll be cheering for you!”
Hinata graciously accepted the herbs, also remembering her training. She excused herself, promising that she’d pick up Hikaru when she was done with her training at sunset. Ino told her not to trouble herself because she truly enjoyed Hikaru’s company. Ino confided in Hinata that she might not be able to watch Hikaru for much long, because she was going to be too busy preparing for the arrival of her own baby. Hinata’s eyes widened and she suppressed an excited squeal. Ino was finally pregnant. Hinata made a mental note to get Ino something very wonderful to welcome her upcoming baby. The Yukikage made her way back home, only to change out of Yukikage robes and into her normal training outfit of a black sports bra and black biker shorts. She made her way to the Lake of the Lost Soul, only to see Hanzori waiting for her. She expected a challenge the way he approached her, but was more than surprised when he fell to his knees, bowing his head and subjecting himself to the lowest form of begging and also, humiliation.
”Forgive me, sister. I was wrong for what I said and don’t know what came over me. I would never want to hurt you or my beloved, younger nephew. He really is the only family I have.”
Hinata shook her head, kneeling on one knee and smiled warmly.
”I knew it. I knew you were a good person, Hanzori-Oniichan.”
He smiled happily, grateful for her forgiveness. They trained together, Hinata feeling a great sense of a sibling connection. By the time the sun had set, Hinata and Hanzori were exhausted.
“Naruto-Sama is definitely in trouble.” He joked.
“I just hope my skills are enough. He promised that he wouldn’t be holding back, either.”
”Don’t worry, you’ll do just fine. In FACT…”
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small vile filled with blue liquid.
”This is a sample of some of the purest, coldest water in Yukigakure. I was going to save it for myself, but as you know, the properties of this water is a definite must when you’re training for a great battle as you have ahead of you. I have our mother’s great powers of healing that I’d also like to share with you, if you’ll accept them....” He bowed.
“Of course, thank you, Hanzori-Oniichan.”
Hinata reached for the small bottle, but was more than shocked when Hanzori the bottle, put the liquid in his mouth and locked his lips with her own, passing it from her mouth to his. Hinata’s eyes widened, panicking when she felt her muscles slowly started to relax and everything seemed to get foggy, her lips, all the while locked with Hanzori’s. In her mind, she could hear Hanzori’s voice whisper,
“Show to me in the inside of your soul and heart, Hinata Hyuuga…”
The second Hinata’s eyes closed, Hanzori, with his lips still locked with hers, could read her entire memory. He could see when she first battled her cousin Neji, shocked at how differently she looked. He continued to read her heart and soul, seeing her marriage to Naruto, a few of her favorite, steamy moments and even the birth of Hikaru. Hanzori was determined to find out what that red light surrounding them during his birth was.
“More…! Let me see into the deepest depths of your heart!”
His eyes widened when, mentally, he was suddenly faced with Byakko. His entire body froze as he stood in front of Byakko’s cage. The tiger charged at him, but by then, Hanzori had broken the kiss, also ending his mental connection with Hinata who’d passed out from the shock. He grasped his heart, panting heavily and looked at his unconscious baby sister in surprise. So, Hinata housed Byakko’s soul, did she? Hinata started to stir, but he casually sat there when she sat up, grabbing her head.
”Ow…what happened…?” she moaned.
”You used far too much chakra on that last attack, Hinata! You musn’t strain yourself!”
Hinata felt odd, but strangely enough, she felt as if she could completely and not completely, trust Hanzori’s word. He escorted her to get Hikaru and then escorted them home. Hinata promised him that she’d put in a good word for him to Naruto. With that, Hanzori headed back to where they were holding Hiashi Hyuuga. He kneeled down in front of his father’s cell. He was almost certain his father wouldn’t live to see the next month, so he was very thankful the Kage exams were just a week away.
“Ah, my son…Did you make use of that poison you found in my room where I told you?”
”I did, father. I gave it to her it exactly the way you said, disguising it as water from Yukigakure. She wasn’t any the wiser when she woke up. Even more importantly…I have see her mind, heart and soul.”
”And?”
”She houses Byakko.”
Hiashi chuckled, not completely surprised, but relatively surprised, nonetheless.
”I see. So, all that’s left is to find the pieces of the talisman and wait for the Kage exams. I must say, I am proud of you son.”
Hanzori nodded, bowing.
“Thank you father. Just hold on a little longer…Soon, both of our dreams will be realized.”
Hanzori chuckled, nodding and taking his leave. The air was unsually cold that night for a summer night in Konoha. He hurried back to the Hyuuga household, trying to shake off the cold feeling that came with the night. Even when he was safe and under his blankets, he was still overcome with that feeling of foreboding. He wasn’t the only one. Hikaru Uzumaki tossed and turned in his little bed, but didn’t want to awake from the dream that caused his body to have such fits.
~*~The forest in his dream seemed endless. There was something running beside him, but he couldn’t tell what it was. A light surrounded his body and he found himself staring up at an enormous cliff in front of him. Atop of it was a shadowed figure, large and powerful with fifty tails whipping around furiously.
“K…Kyuubi…?” the child barely rasped.
When the shadowed beast didn’t respond, the child was faced with a new fear when he could see the creature’s eyes turn into a beautiful, gold color. Hikaru found his eyes turning the same color and was suddenly filled with a calming sense if Inner-Knowledge.
”G…Gobi No Houkou?”
The demon let out a thunderous bark before leaping down off the cliff, aiming straight for Hikaru. The child didn’t move, more surprised when the beast landed gently in front of him. Hikaru stood there, staring at the beast in awe, more than fright; it looked everything like an enormous dog-demon, with a slender body like Kyuubi, however, it’s entire body was as white as snow, with black tiger-stripes, just like Byakko’s. It’s ears were long and pointed just like Kyuubi’s as well and it was hard to miss the enormous, five tails whipping about wildly behind him. The two beings stood there as if all of time had stopped. Hikaru took a step towards the dog-demon, his hand extended. Gobi’s head lowered and both were encased in a bright, white light when Hikaru’s head gently rested upon Gobi’s massive one…~*~
Hikaru groaned slightly, the light of the morning sun shining down on his face. He sat up, yawning a little bit.
”Gobi…?”
Yet there was no trace of the gentle giant in his room full of toys and various scrolls. He closed his eyes, remembering his dream. As large and as terrifying as Gobi was, especially compared to how small he was, the dog-demon didn’t scare him at all. If anything, he felt a sense of peace, yet pain coming from the demon. He could only wonder what troubled his new friend so much. He hoped that if he fell asleep again, he would meet Gobi once more so he could ask him.
