-Orders-
Sakura woke to the next morning tightly wrapped around…a pillow? Naruto and Sasuke must have snuck out when she was asleep. Somehow that displeased her. Gangsters sure seemed to start the day off early.
Still rather groggy and a little grumpy she scanned the room. The place was a total mess, bloody bandages piled in the corner, bathtub scummy with dirt, and the mugs from last night in need of washing. With a heavy sigh she fell back among the crumpled sheets. It looked like today would be devoted to cleaning. Phooey.
Forcing herself out from under the covers she stumbled toward the kitchen in search of breakfast. A bowl of Fruitloops and three Pop-Tarts later Sakura was feeling downright chipper. Oh course that could have been the sugar high kicking in. Taking her dishes to the sink something on the counter caught her eye.
There was a wade of cash next to a piece of paper on the counter. Now, who in the world could that be from?
Dear Sakura-chan,
Do you know how cute you are when you’re sleeping? Really REALLY super duper ooper cute. Thanks for fixing us up last night and letting us crash at your place. We’re off to go kick some ass and check-in with the rest of the gang.
Sasuke set up the meeting with Black Leaf tonight, there no point in dragging this whole thing out. The girls have the night off work, so they’ll be by later to pick you up.
Here’s some money for something nice to wear. Black Leaf can’t compete with our babes.
See ya later sweet cakes.
Naruto and the bastard.
Sakura took a deep breath, struggling for control. Sweet Cakes?! Was he for real? And money? THEY HAD GIVEN HER FUCKING MONEY!? Like some kind of hooker. Her brain was about to explode. She was trying desperately to calm down but panic seemed to have set in. Panic? That made her pause. What was she so afraid of? Why was she freaking out over this? They hadn’t meant to insult her. They weren’t implying that she was their whore. At least she didn’t think so. She hadn’t slept with them. Ok so technically she had slept with them…twice. But she sure as hell hadn’t had sex with them…yet.
It was a cultural misunderstanding. Yeah, that was it. Being a kept woman was their for of protection. Their way of showing they cared. She should be happy. So what was wrong?
Deep down Sakura knew the truth. She was still scared. Sacred of her impending relationship, scared of failing her mission, scared of everything. She was itching for a way to make things less complicated. A way to distance herself from them.
What a wimp. Chastising herself for being weak, she regrouped pushing her fear aside. Everything was fine. She could handle this. She wouldn’t be afraid anymore.
But she, Naruto, and Sasuke needed to have a little talk, establish some boundaries, work out the kinks, and she needed to return their money, all…she quickly counted it…FIVE HUNDRED AND FIFTY FIVE FUCKING DOLLARS OF IT?! Unbelievable. At least they didn’t think she was cheap.
That wasn’t fair and she knew it. This money was meant as reassurance of their affections. It was not a down payment on her body. All this rationalizing of their actions did not bode well for her feminist sensibilities.
Sakura’s anger deflated a little. This whole relationship thing or whatever it was she had possibly started considering now felt as though it would be entirely too much work.
She seriously didn’t have time for all this emotional bullshit. She was a cold-blooded undercover agent and there were things to be done.
Like shopping. How pathetic.
Sighing she realized a large portions of this week’s paycheck was going to go towards the, “Look-f’ing-awesome-so-you-can-make-the-bad-guys-jealous” fund. Being a girl really sucked sometimes.
Cleaning could wait, she had to find the perfect dress. Who knew how long it would take especially on such short notice. Getting all dolled up was a necessary evil for this evening. This probably wasn’t going to help her image on an independent woman. At least she knew where the mall was.
Sakura headed towards Come Come Paradise to pick up her check. What did one wear to a gang war commencement? Should she go for sluty? Intimidating? Intimidatingly sluty?
Walking through the now familiar red door, her head swimming with fabrics and patterns, she ran head-on into something solid. “Jiraiya?”
“Ahh my sweet sugar blossom I was going to pay a visit today.”
“Why?”
“Do I really need a reason to spend time with my favorite attractive female?” She snorted and gave him a skeptical look. He sighed, “I have something for you.”
“My paycheck?” she asked hopefully.
“Well no it’s…”
“I need my paycheck.”
“Of course my candy apple sugar pop, just follow me to my office and…”
“No way! I’m never returning to that cesspool of sin! Once was certainly enough to taint my soul.”
“But…”
“NO!”
“Plea…”
“NO! I said no and I mean no.”
“Fine” The older man said sadly, shoulders slumped. “My heart will feel the pain of your absence like a thousand…”
“Just go!”
“I shall return soon my bubble yum angel.” And he puffed away. One of these days she was going to make him teach her that trick.
After only a few minutes she saw his white head bobbing towards her. He handed her a check and a yellow manila folder. “Thanks. I’ll see ya tomorrow.”
Jiraiya caught her wrist as she turned to go, “Be careful tonight Sakura.” His normally smiling face serious. An awkward moment stretched out between them until he broke into a wide grin, “It would truly be a shame if you left this world before having experienced the pleasures that can be found in the arms of the great Jiraiya.” He gave her a lecherous wink.
Sakura batted her eyelashes and gave is arm playful slap. “The old pervert’s got a soft spot for me? How sweet. But you really needn’t worry, I know what I’m doing and I can take care of myself.” She said with more confidence then she felt. “Thanks for the dough, boss-man.” Giving him a little salute as she slipped out the door.
“Anything for my little sugar blossom.”
Three hours, forty-two minutes, and thirty-seven seconds later Sakura finally found what she’d been searching for, a dress in her price range that transformed her into a total sex goddess. The last time she remembered looking this fabulous was at her senior prom. She cringed at the memory of her date throwing up on all over her, she never could get the stains out of the pink satin she had worn. But that was all in the past. Naruto and Sasuke weren’t a couple of delinquents who couldn’t hold their liquor, sneaking alcohol onto the dance floor in flasks. Tonight she was going to be beautiful, breathtaking, and utterly unattainable, all with the help of her amazing new purchase.
It was gold and black. Just like their fucking hair. Knowing it would please them to see their colors on her was almost enough to make her hang it back on the rack but subconsciously she kind of liked the idea as well. Besides she wanted them as happy and distracted as possible when she gave them their money back.
And it was very distracting. The top was held up by two thin straps and clung to her body in small gold pleats which were slit to reveal the stretchy black spandex underneath. The bottom was shorter then she would have liked, traveling only four inches down her thighs. But she guessed they probably wouldn’t begrudge her a little extra skin.
She splurged and bought matching heels with the straps that come up to mid-calf and a pair of sparkly gold gloves (because who could resist the coolness of gloves?).
Exhausted from a long day of having to deal with shop-a-holic crazies stealing anything they could get their hands on and snooty sales bitches pushing her around Sakura wished she could just skip tonight. Plopping down on the bed for a short break, she felt something jab into her side. It was the manila folder Jiraiya had given her. She hoped it wasn’t a collection of nudy pictures. She was so not in the mood.
Haruno Sakura
Root member #334786
Your expedient infiltration into Spiral has been rather impressive. Your hard work is appreciated. Continue moving forward with your reconnaissance mission.
A matter of great some urgency has arisen and it has become necessary to add to your current duties. One of your fellow Onyx members has been declared missing. The mystery of his absence is of critical importance in requiring solving.
New Mission Objective:
Report on Missing Agent’s Status
Root agent Hatake Kakashi assigned to Black Leaf had been declared missing. His contact was found murdered several months ago. There has been no communication in that time.
Mission Instructions:
Contact agent.
Alert him that this disappearance is unacceptable. And immediate check-in is mandatory.
Report back.
There were several other papers behind her new orders including a detailed description of Kakashi and a record of all the reports he had made while undercover. How very convenient Spiral was meeting with Black Leaf tonight. Hopefully she would be able to make contact with him, if he was still alive. She shivered at the thought. What would happen to her if Naruto and Sasuke ever found out that she was a spy?
Brushing such unpleasant thoughts aside she concentrated on getting ready for the big night. Using her mad multitasking skillz she simultaneously took a ‘shower’ (pouring a bucket of water over herself) and cleaned the tub. It was sparkling and smelled of herbal essence when she had finished. A brief pick-up and sweep under the rug and the place was looking semi-livable.
Sakura squirmed into her dress. The oddly foreign texture suctioning to her freshly scrubbed skin. Combing out her long bubblegum hair she braided it quickly into a mass of chubby chunks. They hung around her shoulders and down her back. She applied minimal make-up, just a thin layer of eyeliner and a dab of mascara. And glitter. It wasn’t often a woman could get away with wearing glitter without looking like the spokesperson for pre-teen fashion. Slap on some lip-gloss and she was ready to ride.
The dress, the shoes, the gloves, the hair, the face, she was looking hot. Sakura smiled checking out the mirror. Defiantly high class hooker. The skirt was just too short for her to be called a lady but she could deal with it. She was feeling confident, excited, even eager, tonight sex appeal was her weapon and she was going to use it to full advantage.
Soon after finalizing the finishing touches on her appearance the girls showed up at her door. Decked out in their finest, the four feme fatals were dressed to kill.
Ino was in a neon blue slip dress that made her eyes stand out like twin turquoise headlights. She radiated color like electricity.
Temari wore a pure white tube dress that glowed against her honeyed skin and lemon hair.
Hinata seemed to combat her lack of height with a daring hemline even shorter then Sakura’s. She was in black as usual, with fishnets, a corset, and a blush that seemed permanent. It was likely she hadn’t dressed herself.
But TenTen blew them all out of the water, sporting a full body suit of red leather. Yikes.
They looked ready to do some serious damage, seduction style. BOOYA!
“You guys look great.” She said after waving them in.
“Fuck yeah we do.” Ino flipped her loose hair over a bare shoulder.
“I should after what it took to get into this thing.” TenTen said attempting to tug at the stiff fabric. “What a pain in the ass. Literally, I’ve got a constant wedgy. It’s way worse then a thong.”
“You look beautiful Sakura.” Hinata smiled softly at her. The effect was only slightly ruined coming from her black lipstricked lips, but a compliment was a compliment.
“Thank you Hinata.”
“Are you ready to go?’ Temari asked.
“Yeah just a sec.” Sakura rushed to stuff a few things into her gold purse, the five hundred and fifty-five dollars she was returning, back-up lip-gloss, apartment key, and the six inch switchblade she had taken off a rowdy customer earlier in the week. “Ok good to go.”
They all flashed a lot of leg getting into Shikamaru’s car causing some of the neighborhood boys to whistle. Ino flipped them the finger and almost ran them over accelerating from the curb.
Sakura started to get excited. She was off to participate in real gang business. This was going to be fun…she hoped.
They raced across Konoha at ungodly speeds, moving towards the wealthier part of town. Sakura took in the sterile skyscrapers and the clean, graffiti free streets. Everyone who was anyone lived, breathed, and fucked in the Jounin District. It had been a while since she had been on this side of Konoha. Her last year as a cop had been spent in the less savory parts of the city sorting out drive-bys and organizing drug busts. But Black Leaf wasn’t a teeth and nail street gang. They didn’t live in the ghetto; they had penthouses. They had inheriting all the money, power, and influence from their predecessors, the Pythons. Sakura sucked in the less polluted air, watching the night lights racing by, listening to the other girls singing along with whatever song was blasting over the radio, it was…special. This peace was worth protecting.
Ino slammed on the breaks fishtailing to a stop and throwing Sakura into her seatbelt. They had arrived and fortunately with only a mild case of whiplash.
‘The Bridge’ was the watering hole for the social elite. It was the hottest nightclub on the strip. There was a line around the block of well-groomed, well-dressed wannabes. Sakura followed the other girls, ignoring the unfriendly looks she was getting from the people patiently waiting to be let in.
“We’re with Spiral.” Ino said grabbing Hinata and twirling her around to point out the tattoo on the smaller woman’s back, “See. That idiot Itachi is expecting us.” The bouncer grunted and let them pass.
A red bridge was leading up to the club. Their heels clicked smartly on the wooden planks. TenTen looked back at her with a smile, “Into the Lion’s Den.”
“More like over the rainbow,” The brunet laughed and the two linked arms, crossing over to the darkside together.
Inside was nothing like Come Come Paradise. The music wasn’t loud enough to make your ears bleed, most people were sitting instead of dancing, and the air was clear of the stale sweaty smoke that always made her want to gag before she had adjusted to it. But there was something that made her feel less at home. It was a pretend kind of hygienic. Here was a place of deception. It offered the illusion of safety. But it wasn’t really better; it was just a different kind of bad. Instead of ecstasy on the dance floor there was coke in the bathrooms.
Three shadows moved to block their way.
“Never thought I’d have to see your ugly ass again, pinky.” It was Anko, Shizune, and Kurenai. They were dressed in shades of black that made their skin look pasty and pale. None of the Spiral girls responded, opting instead for bored indifference. Anko gritted her teeth, eyes flashing hatred, “You are to follow us. Your boys are waiting for you.”
Anko turned and with a harsh flick of her hand indicated that the rest of them should follow. Shizune darted a quick glance at Temari, she had a poorly concealed black eye. Kurenai took up the rear and remained silent.
Anko led them through a door in the back of the club. The room on the other side was…swanky. The opposite wall was all mirrors, the overhead lights were dim but brighter then the club’s. There were suede chairs and love seats arranged around a low circular table. Sakura lined up with the other girls against the wall. The group of men sitting around the table fell silent at their entrance. It was uncomfortable, being the object of their attention. She felt like she was on display, their eyes running over her adding up her value, assessing her flaws. It was all she could do to keep her face blank.
Eyes adjusting to the new light, Sakura identified the male members of Spiral. They were all there. Shikamaru stood followed by Neji, Shino, Kiba, and Choji. They walked towards their women like it was a fucking claiming ceremony. Sakura suddenly felt alone, all the others had been collected; she was left standing by herself. Great just great. Was this the penalty for not sleeping with them? Were they just going to leave her wide open? Tearing her gaze from her own gang she caught Kisame’s eye. He smiled and licked his lips. Anko bared her teeth and the hostility in the room went up a notch. Things were just getting better and better.
Sasuke looked over his shoulder at Lee who detached himself from the group and made his way to her side. Guard Duty. Sakura smiled her gratitude at him. From the corner of her eyes she saw Naruto frown and Sasuke’e eyebrow twitch when she reached out and took Lee’s hand. Fuck’em. Lee’s face lit up and she was glad she did it. He led her over to the rest of the gang.
“This is our newest member Haruno Sakura.” Sasuke’s voice was empty.
“Yeah, she’s the one who totally kicked Kisame’s ass.” Naruto chimed in with a grin.
“I see” The voice was smooth as silk, rich as chocolate, and flat as a pancake. Sakura’s attention snapped to the speaker. He was beautiful. He was dangerous. He looked almost exactly like Sasuke. Long dark hair pulled back in a pony-tail at the nape of his neck, swirling Sharingan eyes. He was completely relaxed sitting in an overstuffed chair, in fact he looked bored.
“Shut up Itachi.” Sasuke’s words were pure venom, seething with hatred. Sakura had never heard him speak with such …emotion.
Itachi raised an eyebrow but his gaze flickered to Sakura. Red pinwheels locked with emerald orbs. She felt herself sinking. The room began to fade. Time itself slowed. It felt as though she floating, drifting away from the reality around her.
Pain shot up her arm and she blinked awake looking up at Lee. He had her hand in a death grip, worry written all over his face.
Taking a moment to compose herself, she realized what had just happened. That red eyed fucker had tried to capture her in a genjutsu and she had almost let him. Fuck, what had she gotten herself into? His power was unlike anything she had ever felt before. Sakura stepped closer to Lee, leaning in to rest against his body, he draped an arm around her shoulders effectively tucking her into his side. Her head was starting to hurt.
Sakura couldn’t make herself look back at the Black Leaf Leader so she began a study of his henchmen. On the couch to the left of Itachi’s chair were three couples. Kisame and Anko were on the end. Seemed as though they were currently out of favor. She could only hope that it had something to do with her. Next to them was Kurenai on the lap of a scruffy looking man smoking a cigarette. Shizune was on her knees at the feet of a younger looking man, his face covered in tattoos. Her chocker doubled as a collar, the man behind her holding the end of the leash. She didn’t look particularly happy to be there. Sakura wanted to throw-up when he reached down and patted her head.
There were three men behind Itachi. A larger dark-haired man with a huge sword strapped to his back had his arms around a feminine hazel-eyed teenager. And a man who looked suspiciously like Lee, just older and hairier standing next to them.
Propped against the wall near the door was a man she hadn’t noticed coming in. He was shrouded in shadow, the sparse light reflecting off his glasses.
There was only one man to Itachi’s right. Sakura turned to him last, breathe catching when she recognized who it was. Hatake Kakashi.
Kakashi possessed a flawed beauty. His imperfections only making him more attractive. Right now most of his face was hidden but she new the mysteries behind his mask. There had been a picture of him in the file Root had given her. Perfectly sculpted lips and nose, strong jaw. High cheek bones marred by the scar across his left eye. His well toned body was shown to advantage in a black sweatshirt, the neck rolled up to cover the lower half of his face. Sliver hair pushed out of the way by his eye patch. Not wanting anyone in the room to see the surprise, satisfaction, and triumph in her expression, she turned and burrowed into Lee’s chest.
She heard a man’s laughter. “Looks like she’s a little shy.”
Sakura ignored him. Using the distraction to devise a plan to get close to Kakashi. The least suspicious way for a girl like her to hang around a guy like him was if she was hitting on him. No problem. She would flirt up a storm with the supposed bad boy, get him as alone as possible, and then they would have a nice little chat. It was a shock to find him so far up the food chain, Black Leaf was notorious for being highly exclusive and paranoid. She had better be very, very careful, she didn’t want to endanger either of their missions…or their lives.
Lee was stroking her back. He really was a sweet heart. Going up on tip toe she gave him a quick kiss on the cheek. Naruto growled and Sasuke glared. They were not happy with her. Well, fuck them, she wasn’t happy with them at the moment either.
“Are we done here?” Sasuke said in slight agitation.
Itachi nodded looking off into space, “Everything seems to be in order.”
“Great! Party time!” Naruto jumped up. How like him to be so happy and ready for fun in the middle of war negotiations.
The group made there way back out to the club. Naruto and Sasuke came up beside her and Lee let her go reluctantly.
“So what now? We bounce out of here?”
“We enjoy Black Leaf hospitality for the evening. It’s customary.” Sasuke answered turning his back on her and stalking stiffly away.
Naruto took her arm guiding her towards the dance floor.
“What wrong with him?” She asked.
“A lot.”
“Very funny. But I mean why is he moodier then usual?”
Naruto shrugged, “He’s always like this when he meets his brother.”
“Brother?!” She felt pretty stupid for not figuring it out. They were basically carbon copies of each other.
“Yeah Itachi and the bastard are brothers. There is some bad blood between them but you’ll have to ask him if you want to know more about it. I’m here to dance.” He pulled her closer and she relaxed moving naturally under his touch. It was nice.
Sakura spent the rest of the night trying to get close to Kakashi. But he was always just out of reach, talking to Itachi or in the arms of another woman.
It was pretty late when she finally saw Kakashi standing by himself, most of the gang had gone home. He looked like he was taking a rest. Time to make her move.
It was obvious that Kakashi knew she was headed for him but he stayed put waiting for her to make her way to him. Breaking free from the last of the crowd she took up a spot standing next to him.
“Hi!” Her voice was full of fake cheer.
“Hello” he responded turning towards her, curiosity clear in his eye. “Can I help you?” Just the opening she was waiting for.
“Maybe” she purred moving in for the kill. His body tensed. She backed him up against the wall pressing her body into his. Running her hands up his strong arms until her fingers were buried in his hair she pulled herself up to his ear. This was so embarrassing. “The Network is worried about you. You have been a very naughty boy, not letting them know what is going on.”
Kakashi remained motionless in her arms blinking down at her. Sakura couldn’t believe she had been reduced to acting this way. Dressing up in different clothes really could alter one’s personality. Slowly she felt his hands against her hips sliding across her back crushing her closer to his chest. The fabric over his mouth tickled as he whispered against her neck. “You’re not what I expected they’d send to Spiral. You’re still soft. Times are hard. War had begun.” She didn’t like were this was going. Tightening her hold on his hair with one hand she let the other trail over his ear and across his cheek pulling the fabric away from his lips. She leaned in.
“Report within the next week or they’ll send someone for you”
He chuckled, “Who? You? You’re hardly a threat.”
“So you won’t?”
His eye hardened at her question, “This business is a lot harder then you seem to understand.” She continued to stare at him and he sighed in concession. “I will contact them.”
She squealed her happiness and kissed him. He froze. “Good.” She said.
“Anything to please a lady.” He bent down kissing her. This kiss wasn’t the light brush of lips she had given him. This was a long heated caress. She was panting when he ended it, pulling away.
Sakura jumped when a hand clamped down on her wrist with a vice-like grip tearing her away from Kakashi. The next second there were arms around her holding her against a hard chest. Sasuke moved in front of her, still holding on to her wrist. Sakura tilted her head back to see Naruto behind her glaring at Kakashi.
“What do you think you are doing?” Sasuke’s voice was sharp. She opened her mouth but no words came out. Kakashi was grinning at her, pulling up his sweater to cover his face again.
He winked at her, “I’ll see you later Sakura. I enjoyed our little…talk.” She felt Naruto tighten his hold on her making it difficult to breathe. A growl vibrated along her back. The silver haired man left the three of them standing in the corner.
“What the fuck were you doing?” His voice was so cold Sakura shivered.
She didn’t have an answer for him. She couldn’t tell them she had an obligation as an officer of the law to seek Kakashi out and deliver a message. She couldn’t tell them the truth and it hurt more then she thought it would. Guilt over kissing an enemy gang member only made her feel worse. It hadn’t really been necessary; she’d gotten carried away.
Sasuke pulled her out of his friend’s arms tossing her into the wall. “I don’t ever want to see you pulling shit like that again.” His voice was thick with fear not anger, his face held hurt not jealousy. What was going on?
Sakura frowned. “You don’t own me. You can’t tell me what and what not to do.”
He stepped forward placing a hand on either side of her caging her in. “Yes I can.” He hissed savagely.
Sasuke placed a warm hand over her hip where the tattoo was. “The moment the needle touched your skin you became our property.”
“That’s not the way Spiral works” she said, “It’s not like that for the others.”
“No, it isn’t” He said letting his hands cup her cheeks. “Don’t play with us Sakura you won’t win.” He leaned forward and kissed her softly. She could feel his frustration and confusion over how he was acting.
“We’re leaving.”
“But don’t we have to stay and…”
“I think you’ve stayed long enough. We are leaving, now.” Sasuke commanded pushing away from her. “Naruto take her, I’ll finish things here and meet you later.” He turned back to face her, “This conversation isn’t over. We need things to be clear between us.” Then he was walking away leaving her with a strangely silent Naruto.
Instead of taking her back to her apartment Naruto took her to the Spiral mansion. He led her to the bedroom they had slept in before, “Stay here. We’ll be back later.” It was the first thing he had said to her since finding her with Kakashi. Sakura felt an unexpected pain at how cold he was being.
“Naruto?”
“Hmm” he said pausing on his way out the door.
“Are you mad at me?”
He turned to look at her sitting on the bed. “Why? You worried?”
“No” her chin jerked up.
Suddenly he was pinning her to the bed, the familiar roguish smile on his face. Damn he was fast. “You shouldn’t lie you know.”
The smile faded a little and something deeper filled his eyes. “I was worried. Kakashi is a very bad man. You mean something to me, to us. I thought we meant something to you.” He stopped abruptly giving her a quick kiss and rolled off her. “We’ll talk about this later. Oh and I’m locking the door so don’t try and leave because you’ll set off the alarm. See ya.” He laughed at her protests closing the door behind him.
“Men” she huffed, falling back among the pillows and promptly falling asleep.
