Trust Betrayed?: Naruto's POV
Ah, you guys are making me blush worse then Hinata when she’s trying to talk to Naruto. Brownies for everyone. (Cause I like them better then cookies.) Bribable? Hmm, I’m not sure. Probably.
And it’s back to everyone’s favourite fox’s POV. I think I’m going to surprise a few people with this one.
******
I’m not asleep, though it’s far past midnight. I’m just staring at the wall, trying to get used to sleeping alone again, when a hand suddenly clamps over my mouth. Instinctively I reach for the kunai I keep under my pillow and another hand finds my wrist just as my fingers touch the metal, forcing it to stillness.
I breathe out and back in, then relax as the air carries the scent of my ‘attacker’ with it.
“Get dressed.” He orders, releasing me. I’m surprised, to say the least. It’s only been a month or so since I saw him last.
“Why?”
“Just do it, Pet.” I frown, wondering what’s up, and just a bit annoyed with his newest nickname. But it’s better then ‘Dobe’ or ‘Usuratonkachi’ I suppose.
So I rise and dress as he asked, well, demanded, though he stops me when I reach for my weapons, figuring this is going to be something shinobi related.
“You won’t need those.”
“What’s going on?” He just moves to stand in front of me, his hands resting at my waist.
“Do you trust me?”
“Of course.” I don’t even falter, though my confusion grows. He lifts my chin for a gentle kiss.
“I love you.” I jerk back. He doesn’t just admit something like that so calmly.
“What the hell is wrong with y…” My eyes meet his, and I never finish the question, instead slumping into unconsciousness.
******
I’m not in my room when I awake, instead finding myself lying against a tree. It’s too dark to see much, and I wonder how long I was out. It had to be either only an hour at most or over a full day. Considering how long it took me to wake up the last time the sharingan was used on me, it’s probably the latter. I groan, realising there’s tape keeping my mouth closed, and shake my head, trying to ease the slight headache that the sharingan’s effects always leave.
I try to raise my hand to pull the tape off, only to find that they’re cuffed behind my back, my ankles similarly restrained. I move my head a bit, feeling the comfortable restriction of the choker. The black ribbon hasn’t been removed since he put the locking jutsu on it. It can’t be removed until he releases the jutsu, not that I really mind.
“Mmhm?” There’s a movement and someone comes closer, but it’s not who I expect to see.
“You still look awfully puny to be the demon’s carrier.” I growl angrily; it’s not my fault I look young. The shark, just as ugly as I remembered him, reaches out and I move back as far as I can. He still catches my chin, pulling it closer to inspect my face. My legs fly out, knocking his out from beneath him, but the move leaves me lying helpless on my back. I roll over onto my stomach, trying to get my legs under me.
“Ow, damned demon.” Kisame snarls, sitting up and swiping at me, sending me rolling again.
“Leave him alone.” I look up, expecting to see him tied as well, only to find him standing above me, arms crossed, glaring at Kisame.
“Tch. You’re almost as bad as your brother.” The shark complains. “Still, I don’t envy whoever else got stuck with him this time.”
“I would have preferred being with him then you.”
“Yeah, well, he didn’t feel like having to be on guard against a knife in the back twenty-four seven.” He grins, his eyes flicking down to me, and I growl through the gag again, having managed to work my way back to a kneeling position.
“Hush, Pet.” I’m lifted by an arm around my waist and carried back to my original place. He steps away, and a small fire jutsu later, my eyes are blinking from the light thrown by a merrily crackling fire. Small though it is, it shows the whole clearing we’re in.
Apparently we’ve just stopped, as Kisame is just unrolling a bedroll, though Sasuke’s is already out and neatly set up.
“So where’s he sleeping, anyway? Gonna just leave him there?” I blink as I notice his point; there are only two bedrolls.
“No. He’ll sleep with me.” Sasuke sits down next to me, the tree big enough that we can both rest our backs against it.
“Hmm, I think I preferred Itachi after all. At least he let me have some fun.”
“Hmmhnn.” I manage angrily. Then the tape’s tugged off, and for a moment I’m sure my lips went with it. At least the anti-hair growth jutsu some enterprising soul came up with means I don’t have to worry about the tape tugging hair as well.
“Maybe if you weren’t so ugly, you’d be able to find a girlfriend.” I snarl. The amused grunt Sasuke gives shows he doesn’t disagree. “Although, I suppose you could always go fishing, maybe you’d find a desperate eel or something.”
Kisame stares at me a moment, then, shockingly, starts chuckling. I blink in surprise, then glare again, even angrier.
“You’ll be fun to break.” He says, and turns away again.
Sasuke pulls one knee up, bracing his arms across it and resting his chin on them, dark eyes seemingly focused on the fire.
I watch him a moment, before turning to study the fire myself, my thoughts in turmoil. I hope the kids are all right. But it’s not like they haven’t been alone before, and they should be able to take care of themselves. Sasuke and I were doing it on a regular basis long before we were the age of the girls. Sakura will keep an eye on them anyway, once she finds out I’m gone.
I wonder if they’ll send out a search party? Maybe, but I don’t hold out much hope for rescue. Sasuke’s had too many years experience in keeping people from finding him. And that brings me to more thoughts I’d prefer not to have to worry about. I know I said that I trusted him, but I can’t help but be a bit nervous. After all, it wouldn’t be the first time I had been tossed to the proverbial wolves to achieve his ends. I can barely withhold a shudder, remembering my time in Sound.
“Relax.” I glance up to find that his gaze has moved to me. It’s as expressionless as ever, but somehow just the normalness of it calms me.
I blink, noticing how tired I suddenly feel, and Sasuke glances over my shoulder, then his eyes return to the fire, pausing to settle on me again for a moment on their way. Stopping a yawn, I lean against his shoulder.
“He looks more like your lover then your captive.” Kisame comments as he sits down a few feet away. Already beginning to doze, I don’t bother to answer his remark, but Sasuke does it for me.
“Overpowering someone isn’t the only way to get things done. Naruto would do nearly anything I told him to, and I don’t need to beat him up at all.” I decide anew that I hate the shark and his stupid evil grin.
“What if you told him to suck me off?” I make a face.
“You probably don’t have anything to suck off.”
“I’ve got enough to make you scream.” I shiver, that comment too close to the way Orochimaru used to tease, and instinctively press up against Sasuke more.
“Enough.” He shrugs, and I sit up, watching as he stands. “I’ll be back in a minute.”
“I think I do want to hear you scream.” The shark reaches over and his hand fists in my jacket, pulling me close.
“Back off.” I warn, feeling the Kyuubi stir angrily. It doesn’t like his nearness any more then I do, both of us sensing the danger Kisame poses.
“Or what?” I growl as he pulls me over, and then, once his hand moves within reach, I sink my teeth into the grey flesh.
He howls and tries to pull away, but I just latch on tighter, feeling my eyes start to change colour as the Kyuubi reacts to the unwanted nearness. Blood fills my mouth and I make a face at the metallic tang of it, but don’t loosen my hold.
“Let go, you damned animal.” I'm slapped so hard my ears ring, but even that doesn’t affect my grip on his hand.
“Naruto, Let go.” A hand fists in my hair, pulling my head back, and I release the captive limb, fighting the tug on my hair only long enough to spit out the blood in distaste. Then I relax, though the angle of my head is making my neck sore.
“You can’t watch a tied, half-drained idiot for two minutes? No wonder you two could never catch him.”
“I’m not an idiot.” I protest, but Sasuke just releases my hair and pushes my head away roughly.
“Shut up, Dobe.” I scowl, but obey. It’s clear that he’s furious, and though I think it’s more at Kisame then me, I’m not exactly in the perfect position to draw his anger onto myself. I spit again, still tasting the blood.
It’s silent for a moment before I shift uncomfortably.
“Umm… Sasuke, I need to go.” He turns to look at me, then grunts, and unties my feet, leading me away from the fire. Once we’re out of sight, he releases my hands long enough for me to do my business. I finish and suddenly find myself pushed up against a tree, his mouth on mine.
“Just trust me, Pet.” He says between kisses, and at that moment, I would do anything he told me to. “You don’t have to do anything I don’t tell you to do.” Easy enough for me to follow. I do trust him, which most of my friends would say shows just how much of an idiot I am, but Sasuke was the first one, besides Iruka-sensei, who ever really paid attention to me, and I’m quite willing to admit, at least to myself, that I’m still head over heels for him.
A few minutes later, I’m sitting back at the fire, cautiously tasting the meat Kisame has heated. Sasuke doesn’t seem at all nervous about it, so I figure it must be at least edible.
My feet are cuffed together again, but my hands are left loose, which really doesn’t matter, because with Kisame’s sword lying just a bit away, I’m too drained to attempt anything anyway, though I wonder why it doesn’t seem to be affecting either of them.
I’m pulled over to sit sideways in Sasuke’s lap the next time I start to doze on his shoulder, one arm wrapped around me to hold me in place, the other resting idly across my legs. Kisame goes to bed not long after, leaving Sasuke to handle the first watch. I fall asleep in the warm grip, only half awakening when I’m carried to the bedroll when they change shifts. Nor do I need much persuasion to go back to sleep, happy to be cuddled up against him again, even if it is just temporarily.
******
The following three days are fairly uneventful; we rise at dawn, have a quick meal, walk until after dark, then supper and sleep. I’m too exhausted to cause any trouble even if I wanted to, thanks to the swift pace Sasuke sets and that damned sword sapping my chakra, although I’m amused to note that Kisame apparently has trouble keeping up as well, since he complains about it the second night.
Me and the shark come to a kind of agreement that night as well, after another failed attempt to manhandle me around. Actually, it’s more a case of him deciding to leave me alone before I decided to start doing some real damage. Sasuke isn’t pleased though, when he comes back from fishing to find me sitting more or less where he left me and Kisame hoping he can still father children, although I think I’d be doing the world a favour by relieving him of the ability. I get in semi-trouble for that one, since it turned out I was in the way of where the fire was supposed to go, and he was only going to move me a bit. I’m not sorry, though; he should have just asked.
Then, nearing sunset on my third day awake, we leave the trail, hiking through the bush for another two hours until we suddenly come across a building complex in the middle of nowhere. Seriously, one moment I’m forcing my way through a bunch of thorn-bearing bushes, Sasuke trying to block the branches Kisame likes snapping back at me, the next I’m standing on the edge of what has to be a training field.
Not long after I find myself in a cell fairly similar to the one I was in in Sound. With a sigh, I relax and try to prepare myself for whatever’s going to happen this time.
******
Cliffhanger! Don’t ya all just hate me now? *evil grin* Okay, so I’m not sure whether I’m just gonna skip to whatever happens at the end (notice the lack of a spoiler there), or describe some of Naruto’s time in captivity again. So I’ll let you decide. As if I need to ask. I’ll admit this, Sasuke is planning something, and it doesn’t just have to do with tormenting Naruto.
And it’s back to everyone’s favourite fox’s POV. I think I’m going to surprise a few people with this one.
