Chapter 7

AN: This chapter just seemed to write itself. I knew what I had originally had in mind, but the characters seemed to have had a meeting without me and decided how they wanted things to go, lol.

Thanks for the many wonderful reviews and thanks so much for reading!!

Chapter 7

The two men sat at the small, glass kitchen table as they ate from the take-out containers with plastic forks. Naruto had frowned at the lack of chopsticks since they were fun to eat with, but a look from Sasuke silenced the whine before it fully took form.

They sat in an awkward silence as Naruto shifted uncomfortably in his surroundings. He was used to staying in plush hotel rooms with people and he was used to staying in seedy motels with people. He was used to sex in cars, backrooms, offices and just about anywhere else. However, this had been the first time he had been at someone’s home and there for some reason other than sex. He wasn’t sure exactly how to act.

He knew that he had been a little hot and cold towards Sasuke, not that Sasuke had shown any indication that he had noticed. Naruto wanted the detective and wanted him badly, yet at the same time, he wanted to be wanted and for something other than sex. It left him vacillating wildly and confused as hell.

Sasuke sat quietly eating his food. He wasn’t sure what to say to his guest now that they weren’t talking about the case. He had felt guilty in the car when Naruto had expressed something close to gratitude for being invited because it reminded him of all the things that he took for granted that was foreign to the young prostitute/blackmailer. It also made him feel guilty because he wanted the blond in his home and not just for investigation reasons. Well, not for investigations that didn’t involve the man’s body.

He almost started when Naruto suddenly spoke.

“So, why did you decide to become a cop?” he asked with what seemed to be honest curiosity.

Sasuke shifted slightly as the subject touched upon his family, which had always been a taboo topic for him.

“It has sort of been a tradition in my family. My father had been a cop, as well as his father and his father.” He gave a slight shrug. “It was just something that was taken for granted.”

Naruto gave him a confused look. “Did you really want to be one or did you just do it ‘cause everyone wanted you to?”

Sasuke stopped the automated reply and actually thought for a moment about the question. “Even when we were young, my father would put puzzles in front of us. Challenged us to use our minds and taught us what was right and wrong.”

“Us?”

“My brother and I,” he replied quietly. “It was just something that we always knew. When we were in high school, first my brother and then later myself, we would work down at the police department. Whether it was pushing papers, helping with the kids that would come in or even taking classes that would get us into the force faster when we graduated; it was always something. Our family lived and breathed law and order practically.”

“That sounds boring as hell,” came the candid opinion.

Sasuke tilted his head in slight acknowledgment. “But if you hadn’t known anything else, then how would you know? I enjoyed the puzzles, I enjoyed the challenge. I enjoyed catching the criminals.”

“What about the people?” Naruto asked. “Shouldn’t it also be about helping the people?”

“Yeah, well you find out really quick that almost no one is completely innocent and everyone lies to some extent. It is hard to keep it about the people when you find that you can hardly trust any of them,” he murmured. There had been only two occasions where trusting someone had almost cost Sasuke his life. He had learned his lesson by then and never let it happen again.

“What does your brother do now?” Naruto asked around a mouthful of rice. There was a stretch of silence that he intuitively knew meant something bad had happened. “I’m sorry,” he said quietly, looking down at his plate.

Sasuke shook his head. “Nah, it’s okay. It happens in our line of work, right?” he said bitterly.

Naruto could tell by the look on Sasuke’s face and by his tone that it hadn’t been something that “happens.” He could tell that it had been something bad and that it had hit the detective hard.

After a few moments of silence, Sasuke shook himself out of his dark thoughts. “What about you? What are you going to do when this is all over?” He didn’t add that he viewed “all over” for Naruto as after the young man had probably gotten out of prison. He didn’t know how things would go with Orochimaru, but he wasn’t sure if the blond could get away free and clear. Sure there were extenuating circumstances, but the law didn’t always take that into account. It would depend on the jury and on the judge.

“I’m not sure,” Naruto was saying in reply. “But I think I want to do something that helps people. I want to make sure …” His eyes darkened slightly and he looked back down at his plate. “I want to make sure that what happened to me doesn’t happen to others. I want to keep people like Orochimaru from hurting others.”

Sasuke gave him an understanding look. “You would have made a good cop,” he said suddenly. “You have a quick mind. You picked up on quite a bit from the files without me having to explain everything to you.”

For some strange reason Naruto found himself blushing from both embarrassment and delight. “Yeah, I’d be an awesome detective. I would have the most cases solved and be throwing the bad guys in jail left and right!”

Sasuke let out a snicker at his boasts. “You mean I would have to spend all of my time keeping you from getting shot.”

“Bastard! I would be the one rescuing you all the time! After all, anyone could tell that I’m more hero-material than you are! They’d make a TV show and name it after me!” He gave Sasuke a patronizing look. “But don’t worry, I’d let you be my sidekick.”

Sasuke found himself unable to repress a snort of amusement. “How about we just stick to reality? After all, no one would be dumb enough to watch a show about you.”

Naruto was about to take offense at the comment, it wasn’t unusual for the other guys who worked for Orochimaru to give him shit all the time. However, as his head snapped up and his mouth opened on a scathing reply, he saw the teasing light in Sasuke’s eyes. He found himself blushing again for no earthly reason and coughed to try to cover his sudden distraction.

“Yeah, whatever, you’re just jealous,” he teased back, suddenly enjoying this game. “They would take one look at the smexiness that is me and I’d have fangirls lining the streets.”

Sasuke merely rolled his eyes at Naruto’s imagination, though silently he agreed with the assessment. Though personally he wouldn’t be lining the streets hoping to get noticed, he would be dragging the blond into a room somewhere and … oh yeah, that was how they had met in the first place.

“So, what’s the deal with your fiancé?” Naruto asked, inadvertently yet helpfully killing the growing problem in Sasuke’s pants.

“What about her?” he replied in a tone that indicated he didn’t want a further discussion of the subject.

“Do you love her?” Naruto asked, his voice cheerfully lying about how his stomach clenched at the thought.

A part of Sasuke wanted to end the conversation. They were wading into potentially painful territory. And it was with that thought that he realized how deep he was already in. It would only hurt if he had some kind of emotional attachment. How in the hell could he have an emotional attachment to a person that he had known less than a week that wrecked more havoc on his brain than the one he had with a woman he had known most of his life?

It was because it was new, he decided. It was new and different and passionate and it was pulling him in. He couldn’t commit to that kind of relationship. He had his career to consider, he had a fiancé that he had to marry and there were Naruto’s numerous issues to consider.

It was casual and it couldn’t be anything other than that and he needed to let the other man know.

“I’ve known her since I was a kid,” he found himself saying instead. “My parents always wanted us to get married when we got older and she was someone that I could stand being around.”

Naruto noted the past tense used in reference to Sasuke’s parents. However, he brushed it aside for later consideration. “That is the dumbest fucking reason I have ever heard for getting married,” he said with a scowl instead.

Sasuke gave him a startled look that quickly clouded in anger. “What the hell did you just say, moron?”

“I said…”

“I heard what you said,” Sasuke interrupted harshly. “Stay the hell out of my business, it doesn’t involve you,” he said coldly. He stood up abruptly and started to gather empty boxes with short, furious movements.

“If you are going to marry someone, you should be in love with them,” Naruto argued stubbornly. “We’re in the fucking twenty-first century for crying out loud! Do you think your parents wanted you to be miserable?”

Sasuke threw the garbage in the trash can and rounded on his house guest. “My parents wanted me to be responsible and do the right thing.”

“Do the right thing? What the fuck, did you get her pregnant or something?” Naruto asked in bewilderment, acid churning in his stomach at the thought. ‘Please say no, please say no!’

“No, she’s not pregnant,” Sasuke said indignantly, missing the look of relief that passed over Naruto’s features. “They wanted me to have a good life with someone that would be a good wife and would give them grandchildren…”

Naruto shot to his feet, feeling like he was desperately fighting for something that he had no right to even dream about. “Sasuke, I know you probably love your parents, but they are dead and this is your life!”

The fist caught him by surprise although it shouldn’t have. He staggered back into the refrigerator, the handle digging into his ribs.

Shut up! You have no idea what you’re talking about!” Sasuke yelled, uncaring if the neighbors heard the altercation or not. “You don’t have any fucking parents. You don’t know what it is like trying to live up to their expectations and trying to make them proud of you!”

Naruto scowled and threw himself forward, catching the young detective in a tackle that took them both to the ground. The man underneath him tried to throw him off and seemed to know how to handle himself in a hand to hand fight, however Naruto knew these things also and, if perhaps not as well-versed, he had raw strength and determination on his side.

He quickly pinned Sasuke beneath him and looked down into those blazing black eyes. “This may have been what they wanted, but it isn’t what you want,” he said with absolute certainty.

“How the fuck would you know,” Sasuke growled out in frustration.

“Because you came to me, bastard. You fucking came to me because I’m the one who could give you what you needed.” Naruto released his hold on a shoulder and gripped a handful of hair. “I know what you need, Sasuke, I know.”

With that Naruto dove in for a harsh kiss, groaning at the way Sasuke bit almost angrily at his lips as if punishing him from making him want it. He pushed his tongue in, forcing Sasuke to accept him into his mouth just as Naruto would soon force him to accept him into his body. However, any idea of force on his part was quickly dissuaded as his tongue was met directly with Sasuke’s own.

Sasuke jerked his wrist out of Naruto’s grasp and pulled the other man closer, using those blond locks as a handle. He fucking hated him for getting so easily under his skin, but he couldn’t deny how his body was on fire. Even as he wanted to punch the shit out of him for daring to say anything ill against his beloved parents, so too did he want to strip the other man naked right there on the kitchen floor.

Their breaths panted out heavily against each other, warm, moist air washing over skin in their urgency. Hands were starting to move, harshly, roughly against each others’ bodies as they devoured each others’ mouths.

Suddenly, Naruto wedged a knee between Sasuke’s legs and shoved, allowing him to slide into the cradle of the other man’s hips. He immediately started rocking, shoving hard with his hips, knowing that Sasuke didn’t want it slow and gentle at the moment.

Sasuke moaned wantonly as the harsh grinding against his rigid manhood fogged out any other thought in his head. This is what he wanted that Sakura couldn’t give him. This is what flat out did it for him, got him hot, got him hard and made him feel alive inside.

They weren’t actively kissing now, merely pressing their mouths together, breathing each other’s breaths and occasionally dipping their tongues to lick and touch.

“This is what you need,” Naruto whispered darkly against his lips. “You need someone to take control. You need someone to tear down your walls and make you surrender.”

Sasuke’s breath hitched at the words, his body burning hotter at the imagery. The insistent grinding of leather clad hips against his cock was making the heat pool and coil low within his belly. He didn’t so much need to cum as he just needed a release, a physical release, an emotional release and at this point any kind of fucking release.

And as if Naruto could read the thoughts running rampantly behind his eyes, he spoke. “You’re going to cum for me, Sasuke,” he said in that dark, husky voice. “You’re going to cum hard for me.”

The hips started grinding faster.

“Do you want to cum hard for me, Sasuke?” that voice taunted.

Sasuke couldn’t answer past the desperate need for oxygen in his lungs.

“Do you, Sasuke?” he asked again. “Do you want to cum just for me?”

A low whine made its way past the rushing of air in Sasuke’s throat as his body started tightening up.

“Yes?” Naruto said encouragingly.

Sasuke’s fingers dug into Naruto’s shoulders as his body started to curl upwards into the blond, his abdominal muscles clenching in anticipation.

“Yes?” Naruto urged, picking up the pace.

The coil snapped and fire blazed through Sasuke’s body as a rushing sound filled his ears. “Yes!” he shouted out hoarsely as his back arched, thrusting his hips into Naruto’s. Inside of his dress pants, his cock pulsed several times, forcefully expelling his seed against both his skin and the cloth of his boxers.

He seemed to hang almost suspended for a few moments before crashing back down onto the vinyl floor. Every muscle seemed to go limp as he breathed harshly, his chest pumping up and down almost desperately.

Naruto carefully braced himself, his muscles’ screams of protest almost drowned out by his libido’s. He knew he would pay for this later, but he wasn’t here to get off. He was here because this was what Sasuke needed.

He stayed in place, keeping the other man warm until he began to stir. Once the eyes shifted to his and then away, he carefully removed himself so that Sasuke could stand up.

Those pale lips parted as if something was going to be uttered into the stillness of the room, but Sasuke merely turned away and walked out of the kitchen.

A few moments later Naruto heard the shower running.

He ran a hand through his hair with a sigh, wondering if he had done the right thing or not. Sasuke was hard to read, harder than anyone he had ever encountered, and he didn’t want to make a mistake. He wasn’t sure what it was exactly that was between them, but he didn’t want to ruin it. He didn’t want to give it up.

He stood and moved over to the small, chic computer desk in the living room, knowing almost instinctively that Sasuke hadn’t been the one who had bought it. He turned on the computer, noting that it was at least a decently current model and would be capable of what he needed it to do.

After checking the virus protection software, he logged on to the hack site where he found the program he needed. He then got out the flash stick and plugged it into Sasuke’s computer. After a few minutes he had the password for the document and was able to access it.

Inside was a list of usernames and passwords to several different websites and a list of contacts and phone numbers. Skimming the list of porn sites, he found that the bookie was apparently into she-males and transvestites. Shaking his head, he read further down until he found the passwords for a couple of different email addresses.

He quickly opened up the first email address only to find out it was apparently used on the above mentioned websites. Suppressing a shudder, he decided not to read “SpunkMaster44”’s email.

And people thought he was sick.

After two other dead ends, he opened up another email account and found more personal correspondence listed. His eyes narrowed as he spotted a familiar name. Quickly moving over to where Sasuke had dumped his case files, he found the same name listed as a missing persons case.

Moving back to the computer, he quickly started going through the messages to try to piece together how the two knew each other and how it related to both of them ending up dead or missing. Although he had to admit that after so long he held little hope for the other man to be alive. Orochimaru was smarter than that.

He didn’t notice the front door opening as he intently scanned the emails before him.

It was only when he heard the gasp behind him that he turned to see a pretty young woman standing there. Of course the first noticeable asset had to be the pink hair, but her eyes were a pleasant shade of green and she had a slender build. She could have done with a bigger rack, but she was comely enough.

He wanted to regard her as competition and yet couldn’t. He knew what he was up against was Sasuke’s own beliefs and inability to move permanently outside of the norm. Although he couldn’t help wonder what she would say if she knew that he had been grinding her boyfriend into her kitchen floor not thirty minutes ago.

He gave her one of his best, most dazzling smiles that was open and cheerful with just a hint of sexuality underneath. Once her eyes finally lifted above the toned chest easily seen through the orange mesh shirt, her cheeks took on a pink hue similar to her hair.

“You must be Sasuke’s fiancé,” he practically purred at her.

The blush deepened slightly and she gave a short, jerky nod of her head. “I’m Sakura Haruno,” she said breathily.

He stood up and glided towards her and she almost instinctively took a step backwards. “I’m Naruto Uzumaki,” he greeted, holding out his hand. “His new partner.”

She hesitated a moment before grasping his hand. “A pleasure,” she murmured. She quickly looked around. “Where’s Sasuke?”

“Oh, he’s in the shower. We had a hard day, a real grind, and he worked up a sweat,” he said with a teasing grin.

She looked him up and down rather quickly with another blush. “You, uh, dress interestingly for a detective.”

Naruto gave another husky laugh. “Yeah, I worked vice before I was transferred.” His hands came up behind his head; stretching his shirt across his chest and making it rise just slightly. “They tell me I’m good at it.”

Sasuke finished dressing in a pair of jeans and a dark blue t-shirt. It felt nice to dress down and the shower had definitely helped clear his mind. He knew that there were still issues that needed to be addressed between him and Naruto, but at the moment he felt relaxed and he didn’t want to let that go.

He heard voices out in the living room and frowned. Walking out, his hair brushed by still clinging wetly to his head, he found his fiancé talking to what could be construed as his lover. It was a disconcerting site to say the least.

Especially since his fiancé was eyeing said lover like a rather scrumptious looking side of beef.

She did it discreetly of course, but he saw the furtive glances sliding over Naruto’s body when the moron wasn’t looking. He found himself frowning at her but not for the reasons why any sane man would. He repressed the irrational urge to make Naruto put on something less revealing and walked into the room, making his presence known.

“Sakura,” he greeted coolly.

“Ah, Sasuke,” she smiled. She walked over to him to give him a chaste kiss on the cheek. “How’s work been, dear?”

“Busy,” he answered neutrally. “How are your parents?”

She seemed to note the subtle reminder of why they hadn’t seen each other for the last few days. “They’re well. They were asking about you.”

Ah, yes. The rebuke for why she had been away. He couldn’t help but feel slightly guilty with his recent activities still humming happily through his body, yet at the same time he knew that he had been conducting those activities because they just couldn’t see eye to eye on their sexual life.

“Hey, Sasuke, I found something that you should look at!” the blond broke in excitedly from where he had moved back to the computer.

Lifting an eyebrow, he excused himself from Sakura, knowing that he was being cold to her but seemingly unable to stop himself.

He moved over to the ridiculously tiny and useless computer desk and leaned over Naruto’s shoulder to look at the screen. He instantly felt warmed by the man’s body heat. It was an effort to keep himself from nuzzling into those spiky blond locks.

“What did you find?” he asked instead. He was aware of Sakura picking up her small bag and walking into the bedroom to unpack her clothes.

“Well, you see this guy here?” Naruto said, pointing at the screen.

“The missing persons case,” Sasuke said, immediately recognizing the name.

“Yep, seems the two of them had known each other for a long time. Our bookie friend sent this guy an email, telling him that he had found something interesting and needed to get into contact with someone from the bay area,” Naruto explained.

“The bay area is Orochimaru’s territory,” Sasuke said thoughtfully.

“Exactly, that is as far as I have gotten but there are a lot more emails on here from the same guy, so I’m sure we can find more out.”

Sasuke went and grabbed a chair from the kitchen and pulled it up beside Naruto at the computer. Putting their heads together they began to sort through the emails to form a picture of what had transpired.

An hour later Sakura came in and announced that she was going to bed. She had a few blankets as well as a pillow in her hands. “You’re welcome to spend the night on the sofa, Naruto,” she said as she placed the items on the couch.

Naruto looked at Sasuke to see if it was okay with him. After receiving a nod, he gave Sakura a wide smile and thanked her politely.

Sasuke noted the last once over she gave the blond with some irritation before she left room.

“You don’t mind do you?” Naruto asked once she was gone.

“I would have said so if I had,” Sasuke said, looking at the computer screen.

The two men spent a few more hours on the computer compiling the rest of their facts from the emails. Apparently the man had put Gantetsu into contact with Karin at some point. It was several days later that the two exchanged messages again and Gantetsu had sounded almost desperate.

He had then sent some kind of file to the other man that had caused the guy to panic completely. He had warned Gantetsu that he was messing with the wrong people and that he was going to get himself killed, that no amount of money was worth the risk. It was the next day that the bookie had been found dead.

They figured that Gantetsu had found something on Orochimaru or perhaps someone close to him and had tried to blackmail the drug dealer. Of course, being a master blackmailer himself, the deal was bound to go south. The main thing was that someone was apparently still paranoid that some kind of evidence could be found since they were still trying to dissuade Sasuke from pursuing the case.

“We need to get into the other guy’s house,” Naruto announced. “Maybe he still has the file on his computer or put it somewhere in the house.”

Sasuke looked like he was thinking for a moment. “We should be able to convince his girlfriend to let us in. She was the one that had reported him as missing. I would rather not have to get anyone else involved in this from the precinct until we have everything we need to arrest Orochimaru.”

He stood up with a stretch. “Get some sleep, moron. We have more work tomorrow.”

“Don’t call me a moron, bastard,” Naruto said around a yawn. “You got any boxers I can borrow?”

Sasuke lifted an eyebrow at him.

“It’s either that or I sleep in the buff,” Naruto gave him a slightly leering grin. “What you actually think I wear something under these things?” he asked, poking at his leather pants.

“Hn,” Sasuke said as he eyed the tightly clad legs. “Let me get you some. I don’t want Sakura raping you in the middle of the night.”

Naruto snickered behind him as he walked towards his bedroom. He quickly fished out a pair of regular cotton boxers before pausing. He tossed them back into his drawer and pulled out the black silk ones instead.

If he had to loan the moron his clothes, at least he should get some benefit out of it.
