Chapter 7 – Secrets

Tsunade strolled in to work in an unusual mood. She waved at the people who passed her by, she welcomed the ANBU who watched her, and she even stopped by Ino's shop to smell the flowers. She had a spring in her step, a bright smile, and she was whistling a tune. She was definitely in a good mood.

Shizune noticed the instant that Tsunade walked in that morning that something was different. Of course, she knew why, but she did not know who was responsible for it. She decided to have some fun with the Hokage.

The assistant entered the Hokage's office and greeted her casually, "Good morning." Tsunade nodded and responded cheerfully, "Good morning to you too." Then, Shizune waited for Tsunade to take a sip of her morning tea to ask nonchalantly, "So... how was HE last night?"

"Pppffff." Tsunade clumsily spat out her tea. Shizune grinned wickedly and stepped to the side to expertly avoid the spray from Tsunade's mouth. "Huh, um, what did you say?" The Hokage asked, wiping the tea from her chin.

"Nothing, I asked how was IT last night, you know... the work." She continued, winking. Although she respected Tsunade, she did not respect the Hokage's privacy, especially if it was as juicy as this.

The Hokage studied her assistant, "Is something wrong with your eye, Shizune?" Tsunade was not going to encourage this conversation. She ignored the previous question and started working on mission assignments.

"Ugh, nothing obviously." Shizune realized unhappily that she wasn't going to get any dirt out of Tsunade right now. She would try later.

On the contrary, Koharu was livid this morning. As one of the village elders, she was responsible for the Hokage's actions. When she heard that Tsunade had dismissed the ANBU guards last night, she decided to confront her. Thinking the worst, she muttered to herself, "Oh why did we appoint a gambling alcoholic to be Hokage? Were we that desperate? I can't believe 'The Legendary Sucker' rules us. It's a wonder that Konoha hasn't gone bankrupted yet." The hallway of the ninja offices echoed loudly with her angry footsteps.

Koharu entered the Hokage's office abruptly. "I heard you have been misbehaving Tsunade, " she announced, with her hands on her hips. Tsunade sat straight and looked at Shizune suspiciously. "What have you heard, Koharu-sensei?" The Hokage questioned, carefully choosing her words.

"The ANBU have informed me that you dismissed them last night without council approval. You know that kind of behavior is irresponsible for a Hokage." Koharu reprimanded. "These rules are in place for your protection." She added, narrowing her eyes.

Shizune spoke up in Tsunade's defense, "Utatane-san, if I may, I'll have you know that the Hokage was in the palace working. I was there."

"Oh?" Koharu was surprised, "Working in the palace after hours?" She was deeply relieved, 'Could it be? She hasn't gambled away our cash reserves?'

Koharu looked at Shizune for confirmation. "She almost passed out from working so hard." Shizune revealed and gave the elder her sincerest look.

Koharu's features softened then as Shizune's words convinced her. She crossed her arms and seemed to be making a decision. After a silent pause, the elder added, "Okay, but if I hear of you breaking the rules again, you will have to answer to the council."

With a respectful nod, Tsunade accepted the terms, "Yes, Utatane-san." Of course, she crossed her fingers under the Hokage robe. 'Why does everyone believe Shizune and not me?' The Hokage wondered.

Satisfied, Koharu walked out of the office lost in thought, 'Really, Tsunade isn't such a bad Hokage. She is the strongest fighter we have now, the most powerful ninja, and the best medic-nin that we have ever had. She is, after all, the granddaughter of the Shodai Hokage, and the grandniece of the Nidaime Hokage. She has excellent breeding. She is also very smart and a disciple of my ex-teammate Sandaime. She's a Legendary Sannin.' Koharu was trying to persuade herself that the council had made the right choice.

She went on in her thoughts, 'We could have had Jiraiya if he said yes. Could you imagine all the havoc he would have caused? He would have forced all the kunoichi into performing perverted missions for him. He would be peeping at will, ordering the shinobi to keep watch so that he wouldn't get caught.' She continued contemplating, 'Yes, Tsunade was the better choice, she is not a pervert and she wouldn't abuse her position as Hokage. Sure, she drinks and gambles, but she hasn't done anything like that lately. Yes, we made the right decision making her Hokage. She even works hard in her palace after hours. Yes, Tsunade is a decent and honest Hokage.'

Koharu couldn't have been more wrong.

Back at the office, Tsunade looked at Shizune with gratitude, "You deserve a raise."

Shizune smiled and said coyly, "Really? Why do you say that? I was just being truthful."

The Hokage agreed, "Yes, that's right, I was working at home. You didn't lie." Yet, she knew that Shizune was up to something now.

"So, what exactly were you doing last night, anyway?" She asked, hoping that Tsunade would finally reveal the racy details.

Tsunade continued with the charade, trying to act aloof, "Nothing, I was just working, nothing different."

"Okay, if you want to keep it to yourself that's fine." Shizune countered. "It's just going to cost you." She added silently to herself. 'This could be amusing', she thought. 'I'm going to make her suffer for making me watch her have an orgasm. How dare she think I wouldn't know?' For no apparent reason, Shizune dropped down to her knees to inspect the Hokage's desk.

Tsunade asked, "What the hell are you doing, Shizune?"

"Oh nothing, just wondering if your desk here has four legs." She answered matter-of-factly. "Sure enough, it does."

"Why would you think otherwise?" Tsunade asked. There was a knock at the door.

"Well, your desk last night had six." Shizune winked as she walked away to open the door. She was going to use Tsunade's deception to her advantage.

Tsunade shook her head and looked down, 'Damnit, she knows. She's going to blackmail me with something. Crap, I'm gonna owe her.'

Anko entered the office as Shizune let her in. From the expressions on the other women's faces, she could tell something was going on. The tension in the room was so thick. "Well? Do I have a snake coming out of my mouth or what?" She asked, trying to break the ice in her usual bold behavior.

The Hokage answered, "No. Let's get on to your next mission."

Yet, Anko wasn't ready to talk about work, "There's something different about you, Hokage-sama. I can't put my finger on it, but, you have this glow." She moved towards Tsunade and stuck her face right in front of hers. Tsunade leaned back, uncomfortable with Anko's closeness and scrutiny. Anko was like a female Naruto.

Anko's left eyebrow lifted up and then she nodded her head. She finally figured it out, "Yes, that's it!" Clapping her hands together, she laughed and gave Shizune a huge smile which Shizune mischievously returned. "Can't you see? Look at Tsunade's face! She's so relaxed; there's no stress. She's content. She's practically purring! She's got that 'I've just had sex glow'! I can recognize that look anywhere!" Anko pronounced her revelation enthusiastically, "She's done it! She's finally done it! She's had sex! And from the looks of it, it must have been just last night!"

The Hokage turned bright red at this moment and hung her head in her hand in embarrassment. She did not expect Anko to be this observant, but of course, if there was anyone who would have figured it out, it would have been her. In fact, Anko is probably the resident expert in this 'training' from what she knew. Tsunade tried to drink some tea to calm herself and wait for Anko to finish. There was no stopping Anko when she was in a roll like this.

"No need to deny or confirm it. It's true. The only thing I can't figure out is who." Anko started thinking about all the men in Konoha who would be worthy of Tsunade.

Shizune let out the laugh that she had been trying to contain. Anko would help her coax out the name of the lucky man. At the moment, there was no other person she liked most. Anko was perfect for this.

Anko started rattling off names, "Hmm, let's see, single men, should we list single shinobi only?... Asuma? Nah, he's with Kurenai, of course it's a secret so forget I said that, but yes, everyone knows no matter how they try to hide it." She continued, "Kakashi? Nah, he's in the hospital. Um... Genma? Hmm.. maybe. Okay, um... who else?"

"Ebisu? Kotetsu? Ibiki? Iruka? Izumo?" Shizune helped, listing names alphabetically. It was obvious that Shizune had been wondering about this for quite some time as well.

"You are missing someone." Anko mentioned. Shizune tilted her head in contemplation, "Who?" Anko had a huge toothy grin, confident she had the answer, "Gai! It's Gai! Why do you think Tsunade-sama would want to keep it a secret!" Anko was practically jumping up laughing.

"Pppffff", Tsunade clumsily spat out her tea. Again. "NOOOO, NOOOO, it's not HIM!" Tsunade could not keep quiet anymore. She shivered with distaste at the thought of his repulsive green suit. This was getting out of hand. "Look, I can assure you, it's not Gai, but I won't tell you who it is. I'm not ready to reveal it. It's too early and I don't want rumors. Right now, there's nothing to say."

"Was it a one-night-stand?" Anko guessed.

"No, I don't think so. Yet, if the rumors spread, it might destroy any chance of it being more." Tsunade surprised herself when she said this. It seemed like she was hoping for something more, something more meaningful than 'lessons.' Could it be that she was developing feelings for Kakashi? 'Nah, it's too early, it's just that I haven't had sex in a while, it's the orgasm talking.' She dismissed the thought that she could have other feelings. It would be troublesome for a Hokage to fall in love.

Shizune and Anko shared a look. "Okay, we respect that. However, when you do figure out what's going on, you better tell us, otherwise, we'll start spreading rumors." Shizune threatened.

"Yes, you'll be the first to know." Tsunade promised both of them.

A/N: Something to lighten the mood a little...R&R please. Nothing against Gai, in fact, in a certain way, he's handsome, but when he opens his mouth, it's a huge turn off. Plus that green spandex. Come on!
