It was a warm summer day and school had just let out. Naruto was running around the school yard in excitement for the nice weather. Sasuke watched him from the bench. Naruto ran up to Sasuke…
“Sasuke! Don’t just sit there! It’s a beautiful day!” Naruto held his hand out to Sasuke to grab on to, but as he reached out he grabbed nothing. His hand passed through Naruto’s and Naruto began to turn away.
“No, wait! Naruto!” Sasuke thought. He tried to speak, but he couldn’t say anything. Sasuke yelled his name, but no sound came out. Naruto ran further and further away. Sasuke waved his hand and tried to run after him, but he couldn’t reach him.
“No…Naruto, don’t go away.” He thought. Sasuke kept running until he saw Naruto’s image again. Naruto had stopped and was starring at something. Sasuke walked up beside him. When he looked down he saw a younger version of himself sitting on the ground crying.
“What- I never did that…” Sasuke thought. He watched as the Naruto image bent down before the smaller Sasuke and held his arms out to him. The younger Sasuke wiped his eyes and looked up at Naruto. Naruto smiled and the little Sasuke wrapped his arms around him.
“Don’t worry Sasuke, I’m here for you.” Naruto held the scared little boy and calmed him down.
“What is this?” Sasuke thought. “I never did that…Naruto..you..” he trailed off.
Sasuke had regained his senses and was still outside on the ground. His body still somewhat sore, but it had stopped raining and it looked like morning was beginning to start. Sasuke mustered up his strength and sat up. His clothes were still damp from the rain and he was shivering. He stood up and brushed himself off. His wrists we cut up and sore from the ties Neji put on him. He rubbed his eyes and tuned to get away, but he heard a noise coming for one of the rooms. He didn’t want anyone to see him so he moved behind one of the walls. He watched as a door opened and closed. Sasuke looked around to check if it was clear. He walked out from behind the wall and headed in the direction of school.
“Sasuke…” a small voice beckoned.
Sasuke turned and was almost stunned to see Naruto standing there. Sasuke moved his wrists in front of him so Naruto couldn’t see them.
“Sasuke!” Naruto yelled, he ran toward him.
“Don’t come near me!” Sasuke shouted.
Naruto stopped. Sasuke starred into his eyes. Naruto had a hurt look on his face; he just wanted to see him.
“Naruto….” Sasuke hesitated “I…I love you.”
Sasuke turned to walk away…
“Then why….Why did you do it!! Naruto hollered. He had tears falling from his eyes. “Why did you do that to me? Does everyone think I’m so fucking dense that I wouldn’t understand anything! I’m not some stupid kid, I’m a person too Sasuke! Why did you do it…why?”
Naruto fell to his knees; the hard wet ground pounded against them and splashed the remaining rain water still left in the cracks. He bent forward and held his sides. His sobs filled the misty air as he coughed and heaved. He moved his hands to his face and buried it into them; he didn’t want Sasuke to see him crying. Sasuke walked over to him, bent down and tried to put his arms around him, but Naruto smacked them away.
“Don’t! You never cared before, so stop acting like you do now!” Naruto demanded. He continued to sob and cry.
Sasuke closed his arms around him tight and held him still. Naruto couldn’t help but embrace him back, despite the way he felt. He still loved him and Sasuke was at least trying to soothe him.
“Naruto…I’m sorry.”
“It doesn’t matter! Sorry means nothing to someone who doesn't love them.
“But I said I love you, I wouldn’t lie about something like that. Have I ever said it until now?”
“No…”
“I’m telling you this now Naruto; I love you with all my heart. I’m the worst thing in the world for you, though, that’s why I tried to keep you away from me.”
Naruto sniffled and wiped his eyes on Sasuke’s shirt. He looked into Sasuke’s eyes and let him finish…
“Naruto, I’ve been in love with you for almost a year now, but I didn’t know it until I talked to Kakashi-sensei and that’s when I knew. But, look at you and me Naruto. I knew if you got close to me I’d end up hurting you, so I tried everything to get you to hate me.”
Naruto blinked. “But why? That’s ridiculous! Sasuke..I..” but Sasuke cut him off.
“Naruto you make me weak.”
“Sasuke, what do you mean weak?”
I mean, you just being you is enough to make me lower my defenses and become weak. It’s my love for you that makes me like this.” Sasuke paused.
“Neji raped me.” Naruto gasped. “I didn’t cry the whole he did it, but after he let me go and I thought of what you would think of me, I lost it. I hired him to do things with me and make sure you saw us so you'd stay away from me. I did everything for you, to try and keep you away from me….to protect you. I’m sorry.”
Sasuke let go of Naruto and sat on the ground. He starred down, trying to look away from Naruto’s face. Naruto held his hand to Sasuke’s shoulder.
“You’re so stupid Sasuke.” Sasuke leaned forward. “You couldn’t get rid of me if you tried. No matter how far you ran, or how much you pushed me away, I’d still always be right behind you, waiting for you.”
Naruto put his arms around Sasuke and held him close. “Don’t worry Sasuke, I’m here for you.”
Sasuke’s eyes widened…”The dream…” he thought. He threw his arms around Naruto and tears began to fall from his eyes too.
“Naruto” Sasuke whispered out, “I don’t want anyone to see me cry except you.”
“Why Sasuke?”
“Because…You’re my safety. It’s safe for me to be vulnerable around you because I know you’ll protect me…”
The two stared each other in the eyes and kissed each other deeply. Naruto’s feelings were finally relayed back and Sasuke had over come his fear of being vulnerable in front of Naruto.
