Chapter 8

Mija: Yes so much to consider but all will be made clear soon XD I have a feeling this chapter will leave with even more questions hahaha Angelj23200: Yeah I figured I’d put in a little twist. Sasuke knowing Kabuto makes it a bit more interesting XD Nickles: Yep and it will be tested in this chapter XD ======================================================= A week passed, and still the dreams didn’t return. Naruto spent every single night at Sasuke’s, curled up in that big, luxurious bed with the raven. Outside of the bedroom, things were going wonderfully. They’d started going out on dates, going out for dinner and movies, not to mention the D/s club. They were getting on perfectly, and he’d even gotten a raise at work. Naruto couldn’t remember a time when he’d been so happy.“Hey, Naru,” Ino grinned, sidling up to the piano. “What’s with you? You’re grinning like an idiot and your playing… it’s so much better than normal.”
Naruto shrugged, but his grin didn’t dissipate. “What can I say? Things are going great for me right now.”
“Oh? Is it because of that guy? That hot, dreamy guy…” Ino sighed longingly and cast a glance around the room, hoping the dark haired man would be there for her to stare at. “Are you with him now?”
“Yep. I practically live with him now,” he snickered. “And let me tell you, he lives in the fanciest place I’ve ever seen.”
“He’s rich, too?” Ino smacked Naruto in the back of the head. “Why you? Why do you get all the hot guys?”
“Because all the hot guys are gay,” the blond muttered, rubbing at his head. “Besides, you have a boyfriend.”
“Well yeah, but Shika is… He’s not like your guy. He’s not Mcdreamy…”
“Oh, whatever. You love Shikamaru. Get out of here; you witch, before I tell him you’re pining for some other guy. Some other gay guy.” Naruto shooed her away, ignoring the childish way the blonde stuck her tongue out, and turned his attention back to the piano he was seated at. His fingers danced fluidly over the keys and the sound that emitted flowed through the room, soft and tranquil.
A dark red sports car pulled up to the restaurant a few moments later, Itachi Uchiha stepping out of the vehicle and removing his sunglasses. He looked through the window from where he was and could see Naruto hard at work at the piano and he smiled a bit.
Naruto looked amazing sitting there playing, his dark suit contrasted nicely with the white piano. But what better way to look than getting closer…
Stepping into the restaurant, he was seated quickly since he was one of the regulars before he ordered a drink for himself. Before the blonde waitress left, Itachi grabbed her attention once more. “Would you mind letting Naruto know that I’d like to speak with him for a moment? I’m Sasuke’s brother… he’ll know who I am.”
That caught Ino’s attention. She turned back to the dark haired man and offered a brilliant smile. They couldn’t both be gay, right? “Sure, I’ll let him know, but… Do I get a name?”
“Itachi… but trust me, I’m not for you.” He took a sip of his drink and focused his attention on the menu in front of him disregarding her completely.
“Great,” Ino muttered as she stalked away. When she reached the piano in the center of the restaurant, she slapped a hand onto it, startling the blond. “There’s another hottie looking for you.”
“Yeah, who?” Naruto asked absently without looking up. He knew it wasn’t Sasuke, since the youngest Uchiha was working right then.
“Itachi. He wants to talk to you.”
Naruto did look up then, his eyes widening. “Why the hell is he here?” he wondered out loud, peeking around the piano.
“Uh… Yeah, tell him I’ll come visit him on my break…” He glanced at his watch. “Tell him to give me five minutes.”
“I’m not your fucking messenger,” Ino hissed as she practically stomped away, heading back towards the kitchen.
Sighing, Naruto peeked around the giant instrument again and locked eyes with Itachi, gesturing that he’d be there in a few minutes.
Itachi nodded, a smile playing on his lips. It didn’t take long for the blonde waitress to come back and take his order. He was thoroughly amused at how her demeanor had changed. “If it’ll keep you from putting poison in my meal, I’ll take you out to dinner one night. Although you’ll have to ask your boyfriend first…”
“How did you know about my boyfriend?” Ino frowned, placing a hand on her hip. Her bright eyes trailed over Itachi for a moment. With the prospect of a date, though, she quickly forgot about it. “Okay, but you better not conveniently forget. I’ve got connections.”
She winked playfully as she headed back to the kitchen with his order, almost skipping the entire way there.
“What’d you say to her?” Naruto asked as he took a seat across from the eldest Uchiha. “She was pretty pissed a second ago.”
“Nothing much, I just made a little compromise.” Itachi took a sip of his drink and eyed the blonde. Out of all the subs Sasuke had ever acquired, Naruto had to be the hottest. His small body was just the tip of the iceberg. The tails and ears were nothing to look down on either. Just the overall picture screamed submissive and Itachi liked the obvious submissive men. “I wanted to talk to you about Sasuke… I know you two are happy and I’m happy for both of you. To be honest I haven’t seen Sasuke so infatuated. But I can’t help but be a little worried.”
“Worried?” Naruto asked curiously, tilting his head off to the side. “I don’t get it. Things are going awesome between us. There’s nothing to worry about. Oh, wait! Are you talking about work? Am I keeping him from work or something?”
Frowning, the blonde’s long ears pressed flat against his head. “I don’t want to interfere with your work.”
Itachi chuckled and shook his head. “No, nothing like that. I’m actually more worried about yourself.” He paused, trying to think of how to explain. “Sasuke… he’s a bit hard to understand. I mean, I certainly didn’t expect it the first time it happened…”
“I don’t know why you would be worried about me. You don’t even know me…” A cold feeling crept into the pit of Naruto’s stomach, almost shocking his system. He didn’t want to ask. He really didn’t, but… “What happened…? What are you talking about?”
“I know this is a bit weird, especially coming from me since we don’t’ really know each other that well… but I know Sasuke won’t tell you himself.” Itachi thanked the blonde waitress as his food was set down in front of him and he took his time before continuing, taking a bite of his meal.
“Basically, Sasuke has a temper and I’ve seen him take it out on his former subs before.” When he saw Naruto about to speak, he held up a hand to stop him. “I know what you’re going to say. You’re going to say that he’s never raised a hand or his voice to you in anger. But think about it, you’ve only really been seeing him for about a week. He’s the sweetest thing in the beginning and then… I don’t know what happens; it’s like a switch…”
“That’s not what I was going to say. I was going to say that he hasn’t even been angry. He hasn’t even been annoyed!” Naruto argued, his tails twitching with irritation. But that same hollow feeling bloomed in his stomach, making him feel a little sick. “I don’t really see how someone could just switch.”
But he knew very well that that was possible. That was what’d happened with Kabuto. At first it had all been pansies and roses, but then… then it had become his worst nightmare. Could it really end up that way with Sasuke?
The sick feeling intensified. He felt bile rising in his throat and instinctively reached for the nearest drink on the table, taking a big gulp. It didn’t help. “I don’t know if I believe you… Why should I believe you?”
“I never said you had to believe me. I’m just trying to look out for you. I… heard what happened before… Sasuke told me.” The raven gave a sympathetic look toward the blonde. “If anything you should get out now, I’d hate to see you hurt again. You seem so sweet… I guess I just… I don’t know. Maybe I’m just wasting my time. I know you can make your own decisions. Just be careful.”
“Wait… Wait! Sasuke told you?” Naruto’s eyes gleamed with betrayal for a few seconds before he forced it away. His hands balled into fists and that hollow feeling, it disappeared completely, replaced with anger.
Sasuke’d had no right to tell Itachi or anyone, for that matter, what he’d been through. Kiba had been the only one to know, and then he’d trusted Sasuke, and Sasuke had… he’d spilled.
“Thanks for your concern,” the blond hissed icily, pushing back on his chair so fast that the legs scraped loudly against the floor and the entire thing almost fell over. “But don’t worry about me.”
Without another word, the blond walked away. Instead of heading back towards his piano, he buttoned his suit jacket up and made his way towards the kitchen, then through the backdoor to the alley where he sat on a crate and lit up a cigarette.
He wasn’t even angry anymore. He was just hurt and a little… not frightened, but… okay, yeah, frightened. Was he really being led on? Was Sasuke just another Kabuto? They had been trained by the same Dom, after all. Could they really be that different?
Seeing Naruto’s reaction, Itachi smirked before taking another sip of his drink and starting on his meal. Once he was finished he paid the bill and dialed a familiar number, waiting until the person he was calling answered.
“You know, he’s adorable when he’s angry… Don’t worry I’ll take good care of him until you feel it’s the right time… I’ll look forward to your call.” With that he hung up and exited the restaurant, getting into his car and heading back to work. He wanted to be there when Sasuke received the inevitable phone call.
xx
Two and a half hours later, when Naruto’s second break had hit, he found himself outside in the alley once more. The crate hadn’t been moved; everyone that worked inside knew that was where he spent those precious minutes free of the buzz of the restaurant. They respected it, and for that, he was grateful. Especially with the call he had to make.
Fishing his cell phone from his pocket, he scrolled through his contacts and then hit Sasuke’s number. He lit up as the ringer sounded in his ear, waiting as patiently as he could for the raven to pick up. Only, he wasn’t patient at all. He was pissed.
Sasuke was just finished installing a few programs on a laptop he was to ship out that day when he heard his phone. Looking over at it, he picked it up and answered, recognizing the number.
“Naruto, what did I tell you about calling me at work?” He was a bit frustrated due to the high volume of complaints from the aforementioned customer who didn’t particularly like the quality of the programs on their laptop even though they were perfectly adequate.
Itachi looked over with a curious stare, trying to hide the smirk he so wanted to show.
“Yeah, I know, but…” Naruto shook his head and stood, beginning to pace up and down the dirty alley. “Wait, how can you bitch at me?! You’re the one who told your fucking brother about what happened to me. I told you that in secret, Sasuke, I didn’t tell you that because I wanted other people to know! If I wanted Itachi to know, I would have fucking told him myself!”
Sasuke paused and looked over at Itachi. He could tell the older man was trying to hide a smile and glared at him before standing and heading toward his own apartment. “Naruto… what the hell are you talking about? I didn’t tell Itachi anything…”
“Oh, so now you’re going to lie?! First you tell your brother all about my fucked up past, and now you lie? Is this who you really are?!” Naruto spat, kicking out at his crate in a fit of anger. One of the wooden slats cracked.
“He came to my work and told me that you told him what had happened. Did you tell him about my nightmare, too? About how I woke up screaming? Poor, pathetic little Naruto, can’t even sleep properly because he’s so fucking traumatized. God, I don’t even understand you! How could you think it was okay? What could possibly run through your mind that would justify telling Itachi?!”
Sasuke listened to Naruto’s tirade but didn’t interrupt. There was obviously something going on and he wasn’t quite sure what it was but it definitely had something to do with his brother. How could Itachi have found out? Sasuke certainly didn’t say anything. He wasn’t that heartless…
Once Naruto seemed to be done, Sasuke let another moment slip by that was filled with silence before speaking. “Are you finished…?”
“Yeah, I’m finished,” Naruto whispered, all the anger having left his body. He felt bad; subs were not supposed to act like that with their Doms, but… but he’d been betrayed and that hurt was seeping back in to the void left behind by the rage.
“Come to my apartment after work, I think we should talk about your behavior toward me.” With that, the raven hung up without letting Naruto respond and reentered his office, eyeing his brother.
“Naruto told me that you confronted him earlier today… How did you find out?” He knew Itachi knew a lot of people in the local scene in Konoha but he hadn’t known his brother knew Kabuto or Orochimaru… the only two others who could have known about Naruto’s past.
Itachi kept busy, focusing on his work. “You know how close knit the scene is…” was his vague response.
“Why did you tell him that I told you?” Sasuke frowned and crossed his arms over his chest.
Itachi sighed and closed the laptop he was working on. “I never said you told me… he must have just assumed… He… did tell you right?”
Sasuke nodded and gave a sigh of his own before sitting down again. “Sorry… I guess I’m just stressed with all this work and then Naruto snapping at me for no reason…”
“Don’t worry about it; I’m sure everything will be straightened out.” Itachi patted his younger sibling on the shoulder before getting back to his work.
Naruto stared at his phone in disbelief and in the heat of the moment, chucked it as far as he could throw it. It smashed against the side of the building, breaking into little pieces on the ground.
Sasuke had just completely disregarded the accusations! The raven had turned it around, blaming him because he’d snapped. Of course he’d snapped! His entire past had been leaked out! And to Itachi! He didn’t even know Itachi! Apparently what was important to him didn’t even matter at all. Sasuke sure didn’t seem to care.
Taking an extra five minutes to try and calm himself down, which was wholly unsuccessful, he headed back in and plopped down onto the piano bench. For the rest of the night, his playing was less than enthusiastic, to put it mildly. Nobody complained, though. Even when he wasn’t trying, his music was beautiful. But he couldn’t wait to get out of there, even if he didn’t want to see Sasuke. He knew he had to.
By the time his shift ended, Naruto was still angry. He headed to the bar and had quite a few drinks before he was kicked out, and then he took a cab to Sasuke’s. As he waited outside the door, he ran shaky fingers through his hair and then forced himself to knock.
Sasuke was just finishing up a nice dinner of salmon and assorted greens when the doorbell rang and he sighed before heading toward the door and opened it, his expression neutral.
Right away he could tell the blonde had been drinking. He usually came from work looking as pristine as when he left but this time his suit was a bit out of place and his hair was just as messy…
“Come in and have some water… I made us dinner, I’m sure you could use the food.” With that he turned and headed into the kitchen to plate up dinner.
Throughout the day he had been thinking and thinking about the call and in time he became angry. How could Naruto act like that? What gave him the right…? Of course the blonde thought that he had leaked information that had been entrusted to him but Naruto should know better than to jump to conclusions, especially after all Sasuke had done in the effort of gaining Naruto’s trust.
The blond said nothing as he stepped into the apartment. He pulled his jacket off and loosened his tie, leaving it hanging crooked around his neck. After toeing his shoes off and kicking them towards the closet in the entryway, he headed for the kitchen and poured himself an unwanted glass of water. He’d much rather have some more alcohol, especially now that he was there with the Uchiha. But he had a good stock at home. He’d just have to wait until they finished up… whatever was happening.
Seating himself at the dining room table, he stared down at the wood, fighting with his instinct to just get up and leave. He was unpracticed being a sub. Deep down, everything was there but he was having a hard time accessing it. For the past few years whenever he got into a fight with his significant other, he’d been able to yell or scream, to do whatever he wanted.
The raven set a plate down in front of Naruto before he seated himself and began to eat, not waiting for the blonde to start. He’d either eat it or not eat it. He wasn’t going to force the blonde to eat.
After a few moments of silence, Sasuke gently set down his fork and eyed his sub carefully. “Tell me, after all I’ve done to gain your trust, what makes you think I’d break just like that? Do you have any idea of how much I reached out to you? Just as you reached out to me… I’m honestly surprised you were so quick to assume… I have to say, I’m disappointed.”
Naruto picked at his food and ate a few bites, but he was mostly just pushing it around his plate. His appetite was non-existent. He knew he should eat, considering how much he’d had to drink, but he really wasn’t feeling it.
Looking up, his eyes searched over Sasuke’s face, looking for some trace of guilt. But there was none. Ears pressed flat against his head in distress, he averted his gaze, keeping it on his plate. “I don’t understand… If you’re saying you didn’t tell him, then who did? Only two people knew; you and Kiba… well, besides Kabuto.”
Sasuke didn’t say anything for a moment. He really just needed to think and calm down. It wouldn’t help if he lost his temper with Naruto.
After a few moments, he sat back in his seat and eyed the blonde. “I honestly don’t know who told him but from what he said to me when I asked him, he denied ever mentioning my name…”
“What?!” Naruto squawked, his eyes widening. “But… But he specifically said you told him. That’s why I got so upset… I- I wasn’t drinking then or anything. That’s what he said, Sas.”
It was difficult to hear but at the same time why would his brother lie? It was completely possible that Naruto wanted so desperately to see bad in Sasuke that he thought Itachi had falsely outed him but… somehow Sasuke didn’t see that as the case. “Are you sure he said it was me? I know that it’s a bit overwhelming still being back in the scene but… maybe your mind was playing tricks on you…”
“No, it wasn’t my mind,” Naruto sighed, raking his fingers through his hair as he tried to quell his frustration. “He was telling me all this shit about you and I said I didn’t believe him, but he said he was just looking out for me. He said you’d told him about my past so he wanted me to be careful.”
Sighing, Sasuke stood and took their plates to the sink. Naruto had obviously eaten all he wanted to eat for the moment and there was no point in making him. Returning to the table he gently pulled the blonde to his feet and led him to the couch. “We need to talk about this… What exactly did Itachi tell you?”
“Itachi said you have a temper and he’s seen you take it out on your subs before. He said it’s like a switch… you suddenly just turn on them. That’s when I said I didn’t believe him because you haven’t even shown trace of anger until… tonight.” Standing, Naruto carried his glass into the kitchen to refill it with water. “He said I seem sweet so he’s just looking out for me. He heard what happened from you and he wants me to be careful. That’s exactly what he said.”
Waiting until Naruto returned to the couch, Sasuke proceeded to pull the blonde against him. “Let’s get this straightened out. I didn’t tell Itachi what happened. I’m a bit surprised you were so quick to believe that I’d do something so disrespectful. As for my anger, I wasn’t angry with you tonight… I was confused and a bit hurt. And for the record, I’ve never mistreated my subs. If you still don’t believe that, feel free to talk to Gaara, you met him the other night. I don’t blame you for this. I’m sure Itachi has some ulterior motive for trying to scare you. But I don’t want you to think that your behavior was acceptable either.”
“You’re right. I’m sorry, Sasuke,” Naruto murmured, curling up against the raven. “I just… I stopped thinking when he said that. I should have trusted you. I want this to work out between us and I know it won’t if there isn’t any trust. You haven’t done anything to make me not trust you.”
The blond felt ashamed of himself. Itachi was a stranger, really, and he’d let some stranger turn him against his Dom, however brief it’d been. He should know better. Sasuke wasn’t the only one disappointed in him.
The raven ran his fingers through the blonde locks and held the man against him. “I accept your apology but I hope you realize that I still need to punish you. Something as big as trust is so important; I can’t let it go just like that.”
“I know,” Naruto offered a small smile. “You wouldn’t be a very good Dom if you didn’t punish me for something like that. I deserve it and I’ll deal with whatever punishment you decide to give.”
Sasuke nodded and kissed the blonde’s lips gently before standing. “Good, then until next week, no sleeping over and no dates. … Understood?”
“So I can’t see you ‘til next week?” Naruto frowned, not having expected that in the least. He’d expected something to be taken away from him, but not Sasuke. His doubts began to creep in again and he couldn’t help but wonder if Sasuke just didn’t want to see him and was using it as an excuse. But he’d said he would take whatever was given to him, and he did not go back on his word.
“Understood. Do you want me to go then?”
“You’ll still see me. Did you forget your daily blowjob responsibility?” Sasuke smirked and helped Naruto stand. “Not to mention we still have webcams… And yes, It would only be appropriate if you left since your punishment officially starts now.” With one last kiss to the blonde’s lips, Sasuke headed toward his bedroom, closing the door firmly as he entered the room.
Naruto left quickly after Sasuke disappeared. He called a cab from outside the building and sat down on a bench as he waited for it to arrive, feeling completely down. And he couldn’t help but hate Itachi for causing the rift between them. Of course, it was his fault, too, but still.
When he arrived home, he heard the unmistakable sound of a moan coming from Kiba’s room. He had another girl over. Sighing, Naruto grabbed a bottle of whiskey from the cupboard above the fridge where they kept all their booze and retreated into his room to sulk for the night. Maybe the entire week.
Meanwhile, Sasuke picked up his phone and texted Naruto quickly, simply typing; Put down the alcohol. He knew Naruto and if the man had shown up drunk to his house, the raven had no doubt that he’d drink more once he got home; especially after the way the evening went.
Closing his messages, he located his brother’s number and hit ‘send’. He needed to have a word with his sibling.
Itachi leaned back in his plush, wingback chair and smirked as he saw the name light up the screen of his cell phone. He reached for his snifter of brandy and took a sip, relishing the burn as it slid smoothly down his throat.
“Hello, little brother,” he answered. “To what do I owe this pleasure?”
Sasuke’s teeth ground together and he refrained from growling into the phone. “You know exactly why I’m calling. Because of you I had to punish Naruto… Furthermore, why would you even joke about something like that with Naruto, I don’t know how you found out about his past but pitting us up against each other didn’t work.” Sasuke stood and began pacing. “And why the hell are you telling him that I have a temper and will ‘switch’ on him? I’ve never done anything of the sort with any of my subs…”
“Of course you have Sasuke… don’t tell me you forgot about Sai already?” Itachi sounded genuinely hurt that his brother would blame him for his own problems.
Sasuke stopped pacing and gripped the phone a bit tighter. “That’s not a good example. You know I tried my best to be patient with him, he just wouldn’t fucking listen…”
“But you were pretty harsh with him.” Itachi pointed out, leaning back in his chair. “Trust me Sasuke, I want you and Naruto to work out… but I don’t want to see him get hurt, he looks so fragile and easily damaged. As for his past, come on, you know as well as I do that word travels in the community.”
The raven sighed and slumped onto his bed. “I know… Sorry… I guess I’m just a bit… I don’t know what it is; I just want this to work so badly. I really care about him.”
“I know, I can see it…” Itachi stood and headed to his own bedroom, the phone still in his hand. “Well I have to let you go, I’m going out tonight; I’ll see you tomorrow.” With that, he hung up, a satisfied smile on his face. The crisis was avoided successfully.
Sasuke hung up as well and sighed lightly. The whole situation seemed like such a mess. At least everything seemed to be straightened out for the time being. Standing, He headed toward the kitchen to make himself a strong drink. ~TBC
