I do not own Naruto, nor any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story.
Please don't hate me
His tears mingling with her own tears, the ones that she had cried because of the onslaught she had just
suffered at the hands of a possessed Naruto, and she quickly pushed him off of her and
scuttled backwards until her back was pressed against one of the poles of the shelter, the tears and
pain from the damage he had done evident in the way she looked at him.
"Hinata... chan..." His voice was dry and seemed to catch in his throat on their way out of his mouth.
Truth be told he didn't know what to say to her, how he could explain what had just happened. He hadn't
even thought it through, that someday he would have to share his secret with someone, a secret that he was
so hated for by those that knew it.
Hinata blinked through watery eyes, trying to mentally stop the flow of tears that were
still trickling down her cheeks, she was aware of the symbol that was slowly fading from his stomach, the
seal that circled his naval.
'What should my first question be?' Hinata was unsure of how to approach the situation, several questions
ran through her mind; What had just happened?, What are you?, Are you Naruto?. She looked into his eyes, and
she realised that she didn't need to ask the last one. It was definitely her Naruto that knelt in front of her,
his body covered in sweat, his limp manhood covered in blood, his hands clenched tightly with anger at himself
as they rested on his legs, the tears still flowing from his eyes, down his cheeks to drip off of his chin.
"Monster..."
The words had left her lips before she realised it, she hadn't meant to say it, she'd only been thinking to
herself about what had just happened and if there was some reason for what had happened 'like he'd been possessed
by some demon or monster'. She looked down after she realised that she'd said the words, she wasn't sure if it
was to not see his reaction or in fear of what might happen to her.
Naruto flinched when the words reached his ears, turning his head away from her to look in any direction but
hers. He knew he deserved to be called a monster after what he'd just done, but to hear it from a woman that
loved him, and he loved in return cut him far deeper than when the adults of the village whispered it behind
his back.
"I..."
'What can I say that could ever make her forgive me!' Naruto hated himself, he had learnt how to control the
Kyuubi's chakra to some extent when he had been travelling with Jiraiya, but even with that help he couldn't
stop it from surfacing when he was stressed. If anything his recent uses of the power was making the Kyuubi
more closely linked with him.
Naruto had seen all that the Kyuubi had done to her, he had screamed at him to stop, trying to reach out and
pull him off of her, to protect Hinata, but it had felt like he was watching it from outside his body, like
he'd been there as a third person but unable to move, his thoughts trailed off into more self loathing until
Hinata's voice brought him back to the moment in hand and he turned to face her once more, trying not to look
directly into her eyes, instead opting to stare at her chin.
"Why?" It possibly wasn't the most important question to ask, she had thought about asking how it had happened
or what had happened, but she still wasn't thinking clearly and had willed herself to say something, anything,
to break the silence, and to try and understand what was going on even if she couldn't come to terms with it
or forgive him for it.
Naruto was unsure of how to answer, he took several steadying breaths, pausing every so often as if he were about
to start explaining himself but each time he had thought if explaining his actions were even possible. Finally
Naruto settled on how he would tell her what he was, and why the village hated him so much, still all he could
say was "I'm a monster." as he looked back down at the ground in front of him, fresh tears rolling down his face
forming small droplets that joined the wet patch on the floor from his previous tears.
It was Hinata's turn to be hurt, as well as shocked at Naruto's answer "What are you saying?"
Naruto sat back and crossed his legs, his eyes focusing on some distant memory, like it was a ghost that could
only be seen by those that concentrated enough. Naruto wasn't sure he had the strength to reveal his secret, even
if it had already revealed itself to Hinata, he felt that talking about it would only bring pain to him and allow
the demon within him to resurface.
"Hinata chan..." As soon as he'd called her 'chan' he hated the way it sounded, coming from his mouth after what
he'd just done, even if it hadn't been him directly he still couldn't stop it from happening when he felt that he
should have been able to, would have been able to if he loved her as much as he felt he did before this had
happened. 'Still its a little late for holding back and lies' Naruto thought to himself as he started to tell
Hinata of his unwanted birthright. How the Kyuubi had been sealed within him without his wanting it, whilst the
other families of Konoha had bloodline limits all he had was some demon that had tried to destroy the village
placed in him, making him feel like he was nothing more than a living prison.
Hinata didn't speak while Naruto recounted everything he had learnt about the demon living inside him, she could
feel sympathy, sorrow, flow through her as she listened to the parts about his discovery of a secret that had been
hidden even from him. A fresh set of tears rolled down her cheeks, and she felt even more love and respect towards
him, in a way it made what had happened to her because of the demon seem worse, part of her wanting to reach out
and comfort the man she loved, the rest of her not wanting to risk the closeness ever again.
Naruto found it easier to talk about it after a while, even if he didn't feel like any weight had lifted off of
his shoulders, maybe because it was too late, or maybe because he truly believed that he could never be loved
or forgiven for carrying the monster within him. It wasn't until he finished his story and a silence had descended
over the camp for a bit that Hinata finally spoke up, remembering the stories she'd been told about the demon fox
and comparing them to what she'd just heard and seen.
"That's not possible.. The fourth Hokage defeated him by sacrificing himself..." Although Hinata had heard the
stories of the Kuubi's defeat many times from her teachers and she had started speaking with confidence and
belief in the stories she found herself becoming unsure and trailed off when she saw the look in Naruto's eyes
and remembered how the adults treated him.
"I.." Naruto paused for a moment as he wondered if he truly meant the words he was about to say, had he ever
truly wanted to tell her. "I wanted to tell you.. It's just... I love you and I didn't want to scare you off
or... hurt you..." Naruto cringed as he said those last to words knowing that that's exactly what he had done,
he had hurt her by not telling her and not being honest from the start.
Hinata grabbed her clothes and dressed herself, uncaring of the dirt, sweat and blood, at that moment in time she
had more important things on her mind than a wash. Pulling her jacket around her she curled up and lay down
facing away from Naruto.
"I still love you... Naruto-kun.. but.. I don't.. I need time.." Hinata couldn't bring herself to say the words
that were running through her mind at that moment, right now she wasn't sure of her feelings and she didn't fully
understand what he'd just told her, she needed the time to understand what was going on, this was the first time
she'd ever heard anything that contradicted the story of the fourth Hokage losing his life whilst killing the demon
fox. She didn't know what to believe.
'Have the adults of the village really been lying to everyone all this time?' it was the thought that kept
surfacing in her mind as she fell into a deep sleep where she found herself haunted by a demon eyed Naruto with
nine tails.
