Chapter 8
The plans were set and now all he had to do was stop the incessant crying. A hissing sound from behind him made him turn his good eye and he watched as a figure walked over and looked at the twins.
"Stop this!" The figure looked to him.
"Hai." He moved towards the twins and the crying seemed to get a little louder. Forming a seal he henged himself and once the girls got a good look at him they stopped crying. He picked them up, one in each arm and swayed a little. Oh how he hated children. He hated grass country more but still, children topped his list. When both girls were asleep he set them down, let the henge fade and went back to what he was doing.
"I never knew you liked children."
"I don't."
"Hn." The figure walked up behind him, in his light no less.
"Have they started the change yet?"
"No. It seems the DNA works differently than we suspected. They may not start showing changes until their teens." He slid his book over to the figure who took it in one gloved hand.
"Hmmm. Move over."
"But Orochimaru-sama! Do you really think-" A fist sent him flying across the room. The noise woke the twins and they again started screaming. Orochimaru let his fist fall on the table in front of him.
"ENOUGH!" The screaming stopped instantly. Shaking his head, the sannin went back to work. Maybe they should have gone through and captured Sasuke as well? Gods above knew the father was long gone and of no more use. "Kabuto, I want you to take one of them out of the room for a moment."
"Hai." He stood and went to grab the one he thought was Aito and picked her up gently. She sniffled and he cooed her silently then walked out of the room. Once the door was closed, the screaming started again. Orochimaru just stood over the other twin with a book and started writing.
You can bring her back in now Kabuto. Kabuto came walking back through the door and set the girl in his arms down. They stopped crying. "Early psychic development in both. I wonder what else there is we don't know about-" the sannin fell to the floor and Kabuto was there instantly. Orochimaru had passed out. With a sigh, Kabuto picked up Orochimaru's head and tossed the note book away from him along with the pen.
"I told you it was too early. But you don't ever listen to reason." He stroked aside black locks and looked down into his masters healing face. Somehow, they had managed to separate but it wasn't easy nor was it without it's costs. He lost an eye and partial use of his left arm while it seemed the sannin was still growing skin in some places and still wasn't out of the passing out phase like he wanted everyone to believe. With a sigh, Kabuto picked up his master and traveled the scant few feet to the bed laying in the room. He started a sailene drip and walked back over to the twins. "So much trouble wrapped in such small packages."
Naruto's eyes slowly opened but not above slits. Still in Sai's apartment. He frowned and pulled the covers over his head. When something moved behind him he tensed and sent out a small flare of chakra. Only Sai. He relaxed and turned over pulling their bodies flush together. Sai's eyes opened to stare at him.
"Morning."
"Hm. What's for breakfast?"
"I don't know." Naruto groaned and pulled a pillow over his head.
"Then why am I awake?"
"Go back to sleep. It's still night time." Naruto mumbled something and Sai had to move the pillow. "Nani?"
"Did you just come to bed?"
"Hai." The blond frowned and pulled the pillow back over his head. No wonder he'd just woken up. Normally they went to bed, if they ever stayed together, together and there were no interruptions to wake him....unless someone stopped by. With a big sigh, Naruto sat up and looked around, then down to his body. Boxers and a tee shirt. Rubbing his eyes he scooted out from under the covers and off the bed. He stood and stretched. "Where are you going?"
"Back."
"Why?" Naruto frowned and looked to the floor, his body slumping slightly.
"Because I have too. We have to find the girls."
"We know where they are."
"I know that but we can't just walk in there. It's a trap."
"We know that too." Naruto turned around, his bright blue eyes dimmed to darker blue.
"I know what we know Sai, I helped put the information together remember?"
"Come back to bed Naruto." The blond looked at the bed, at Sai's almost naked body, then back to the pillows and blanket. Warmth, comfort. The only times he got anything. He growled and rubbed his eyes.
"I wish I could Sai." he turned and looked for his clothes. He bent over and picked up his pants, throwing them on then looked for his jacket. When he turned towards Sai, his teammate wasn't in the bed but right behind him and he was assaulted, or more like kissed. His jacket fell to the floor and as he went to push Sai away, the kiss got deeper. His hands fell and he was lost. Within the last two weeks, somehow, Sai had managed to sneak under his skin and latch on with invisible claws.
When the kiss ended, Naruto was left breathless and resting his head against Sai's shoulder. Sai stroked blond locks and held Naruto while he tried to get his thoughts back into order.
"I have to go Sai." Naruto wrapped his arms around his teammate and closed hs eyes. "Maybe you could-"
"I don't think that wise Naru-chan."
"But-"
"He came for a visit tonight and as it was he didn't seem very pleased you were here. I'm sure if Tsunade found out she'd be even less pleased." Naruto's head snapped up and he jerked away from Sai.
"Son of a-" A hand over his mouth stopped his last word. He just sighed instead. The hand was moved and Naruto slipped on his jacket and stepped into his sandals. "I'm sorry if I've caused you trouble." He walked to the rather large window and opened it.
"No trouble Naru-chan." Sai put on his fake smile and Naruto chuckled.
"You can do better then that ne?" The smile seemed to touch Sai's eyes. "There we go." With a wave behind him, Naruto hopped up on the sill and then into the night. Sai just watched Naruto depart, closed his window and walked back to the bed. Pulling out a sketch pad and a pencil, Sai started to draw. Furiously.
So, instead of going straight back to the compound, Naruto made three detours. One was for some late night ramen, the second was to two familiar shinobi and then the other, his other teammate. As he waited at her door, much to his surprise, he just looked around the place. It was one of the larger apartments, where there were only two apartments per compound and even though it was early morning and still night, her lights were still on. It worried him for a moment.
Once the door opened he was left watching, in disbelief, as one Uchiha Sasuke walked out not bothering to look at him. He turned and looked at Sakura. She stared at him, her gaze showing defeat in small portions. He didn't bother asking to be let in, he just walked in. He looked around and found Neji sitting in the living room watching him. He heard the door shut and he was sure that the entire village would hear his voice.
"After such a grand show as to pummeling him into the ground you let, let him into your house?! One of the ONLY safe places I have left?! What is the matter with you?!" He grabbed Sakura by the shoulders and shook her a little. She looked to the floor.
"I had no choice."
"Of course you had a choice! You ALWAYS have a choice! Gods above..." he stopped and turned, started pacing and put a hand to his temple to rub. "I should have stayed over at Sai's." A gasp from behind him had him stopping the turning. Sakura held a hand over her mouth.
"So he was right!"
"Oh, about how he walked into Sai's apartment and probably started asking questions he had no business asking? Just the fact that he walked into Sai's apartment has me wanting to end his life." He turned to Neji. "And you couldn't just stop him from walking in here? With your severe hatred for him?"
"I don't hate him Naruto-san -"
"Don't you dare lie to me Hyuuga. I can smell them a mile away." His voice was growling it was so low and he looked at them both. "I can't believe you two." Shaking his head, he ran out the door, tears streaming down his face, and headed right for the forest outside the village.
"That didn't go very well." Sakura just shook her head and leaned into Neji.
"You don't have to tell me. I think he pulled my shoulder out of joint." She rotated said shoulder and sure enough, Naruto had pulled it out of joint. She sighed and walked inside. Neji followed but when he heard things slamming he rushed into the bedroom.
The stump was in splinters. The ground was protruding in places and there was even a giant hole from where his fist landed. He could sense other's around him but he didn't care. He wasn't bothering to hide his chakra. He was to pissed. More than likely, it was the ANBU up there just watching, making sure he wasn't killing anyone, as much as he'd like too. He thought two years ago that everything would be fine, that he could find Sasuke and bring him home. He followed every small lead he could get his hands on and he'd even gone head to head with Itatchi, and failed miserably. Naruto was left there, against the wishes of the sharkman and he just stared at the blue sky. In those moments, he felt himself die, deaden.
It had only been weeks before that fight that Sasuke had nearly killed him for the second time and if not for Sai, he would have been dead. Two weeks after that, Sai had confided in him about his betrayal. It took Naruto time to get over it but he did and now Sai and he had no secrets. Almost.
He had told himself that Sasuke was nothing to him anymore. Nothing. When he started feeling nothing was when everyone had started worrying about him. Then he'd been hospitalized. He'd stopped eating, stopped training and even missed missions. When Tsunade herself came to his apartment and found him emaciated, sitting in a corner and rocking, she'd dragged him out of there and put him in the hospital. After two days of being force fed, he started eating by himself. He still had a scar inside of his belly button from where they had the tube that was force feeding him.
The day he'd gotten out of the hospital was because they had no choice but to release him. Sakura was their superior and she signed him out. She'd come to his room, took out every tube and needle, very slowly, and dragged him to the nearest training grounds. There she proceeded to beat him until he was nothing but a crying mass in her arms. She hadn't broken anything, he wasn't in much pain and there was nothing physically wrong with him but he couldn't stop himself from crying. She told him he was finally letting go. Giving up. That he was.
Since then, any mention of Sasuke was kept to a bare minimum or not at all. Then, all of a sudden, there is one Uchiha Sasuke standing right inside Tsunade's office, two little brats in his arms. The rage that filled him in those moments couldn't have topped anything he felt in his life, ever. It was a good thing Shikamaru was there because if not, he probably would have ended Sasuke's life.
Shaking his head, Naruto stared at the stump in front of him that was in a million peices and then turned to the next one. He started at it. When it too splintered into a million pieces he heard someone clearing their throat. He turned slightly and frowned. What did she want? He soon found out. Oh his head was hurting now.
"Come on. If you have enough energy to destroy my training grounds then you have enough energy to fight." He stared at Tsunade and felt himself stand. So that's what she wanted. He knew he was getting himself into a world of hurt but this was good. At least he'd have more objections from a human then a wooden stump. She moved and just looked like she was standing there. Naruto knew better but rushed anyways.
"Kage bunshin no jutsu!" When nothing happened he looked at her. She smiled.
"Skills alone Naruto." He growled. Now that pissed him off even more.
"Ten on Tsunade."
"Hundred on the brat."
"I up his bet. Two on Tsunade."
"You are all going to lose." The ANBU members looked up to one Hatake Kakashi and chuckled.
"And you would know the outcome of this Hatake-san?" The former ANBU member peeked over his book at the fight then to them. The way he looked at the ANBU members made them all shiver.
"The fact that none of you do is a weakness." He went back to reading his book and said nothing else.
"WHY?!" He threw a punch at her face, she caught his hand and threw him away. It only angered him further.
"Because I had to Naruto."
"No you didn't!" With his anger came a flood of chakra. He grinned evilly and rushed her again. This time she had to move out of the way and sent a kick at the back of his head. He ducked and grabbed her leg before she brought it down. He twisted and threw her across the field. She landed in a crouch and looked at him. "You could have left him out there! There was absolutely no reason to bring him back here!"
"Then you obviously don't understand what you need to Naruto." She stood and dusted her hands. He watched as her muscles seemed to bulk for a moment and then went back to normal, or what she allowed everyone to see as normal. "If you don't understand why I let him back into this village then you aren't fit enough to run it."
Her words struck a cord in him and he absolutely lost it. He couldn't see himself as he went at her with everything he had. Tsunade growled at him and sent a punch to his head. It hit but nothing happened. She could have swore she heard a crack but he just turned and brought his fist to meet her face. She stood there, let her head turn back towards him and saw his eyes phase from blue to red and back again.
"And that would be why you never bet on those two." Kakashi was standing on one ANBU while the other two were unconscious. "They are the only two absolutely indestructible shinobi in all five hidden villages, excluding the Kazekage, and won't go down until their last breath. If someone is lucky enough to get them that way." He ground the ANBU's head into the ground. "As for you, I think it's time to tell your Capitan you need more training."
"You have to be kidding! She will never let us live this down! Being defeated by a retired-" He groaned as his head sank further into the tree branch.
"Forced retirement kid. That didn't mean I wasn't strong enough to cut it. You'd do well to remember that."
"Hai Hatake-sama."
"Good. Now get those two and get out of my sight." He moved and sat down, familiar orange book in his hands. No one would ever know he'd just walloped three ANBU without them even being able to lift a finger.
They were panting, glaring and still going at it. Of course neither at them was using their full strength. They didn't want to kill each other, well, she didn't anyways but she couldn't tell what Naruto was thinking. All the while he was fighting, he was talking. So far, she'd been called every name under the Hokage Mountain except the granddaughter of one and had heard every curse word she was sure was in the written language. She'd also been called stupid, idiotic and utterly unbelievable. Yes, it annoyed her and even made her angry but amazingly, he was still fighting and not being buried.
The fight lasted a very long time and it had to have been about noon when they both finally collapsed. Kakashi peeked over his book and sighed. Putting the orange book away, he hopped out of the tree, gathered both passed out forms in his arms and headed for the hospital. He was sure there were broken bones, cuts, bruises and from the noises he'd heard, he was sure someone was going to lose something.
Turns out they were both fine. Nothing was broken or had to be lost and aside from a few minor bruises, cuts and scrapes, they were both sleeping. he looked to Shizune and Sakura. Shizune excused herself and when the door shut, Kakashi's gaze went to Naruto. "Do you think he will ever forgive him Kakashi?"
"I don't know Sakura. By the looks of things now, I don't think so. He won't even let go the fact she let him back into the village. And after your stunt last night," he held up a hand when she would have objected, "I don't think he'll be forgiving you either."
"I had no choice! She ordered me too!" She hissed at Kakashi and he looked at her, the full weight of both eyes.
"You always have a choice Sakura. You have a choice until the day that choice is taken away by death." He looked back to both figures, pulled his hetai-ait over his left eye and walked over to Naruto. He moved a stray lock of hair and poofed out of the room. Sakura was left glaring at both prone forms.
Four hours later they were both released. Tsunade said nothing to Naruto but he apologized and walked away. He didn't want to go back to the compound but had to anyways. Their mission was going to start within the hour and he needed to get his things. He also needed to get Sasuke ready if the bastard wasn't already.
"It's about time you showed up." Naruto just looked at Sasuke and walked passed him to head to his room. He grabbed up his weapons pouch, a small pack and headed back out.
"We leave in twenty minutes teme."
"Hn." Sasuke was ready to go. he'd just been waiting on Naruto. "What possessed you to fight the Hokage dobe?" Naruto turned back a big, dopey smile on his face, that didn't quite reach his eyes.
"To find out who was stronger teme."
"Who won?"
"Neither of us." Naruto walked out the door. Sasuke shook his head and followed.
"I never knew you liked children."
"I don't."

"Have they started the change yet?"
"No. It seems the DNA works differently than we suspected. They may not start showing changes until their teens." He slid his book over to the figure who took it in one gloved hand.
"Hmmm. Move over."

"You have to be kidding! She will never let us live this down! Being defeated by a retired-" He groaned as his head sank further into the tree branch.
