Chapter 09
Blood Thirst: The War
“The Order?” Jiraiya repeats the word as if it’s a particularly sour grape and he contemplating whether he can spit it out or has to swallow it down.
“Yes. It’s an urgent message-” The girl started but Jiraiya cut her off, apparently deciding he didn’t really care for that sour grape.
“Sakura, I believe, if you would check with your superiors, that I am a currently ‘inactive’ member of that group.” Jiraiya growled at the impertinent girl. “You have no business here or with me. The Order knows that.”
“Time are changing Jiraiya,” Sakura hissed at him, eyes darting momentarily at me before back to the old fart, “I will explain entirely. But this is not the sort of thing to be discussed ‘here’.”
Oh yes. No one can talk in their yard anymore. The only people who will hear would be me and Sasuke; we’re not bad people. What’s her problem?
“Sakura, you can go back and tell Tsunade-!” Jiraiya starts angrily; he can be very pigheaded when he wants to be. But this Sakura is surprisingly assertive.
If she wasn’t being such a jerk about me trying to kill her a moment ago I’d think she’s pretty cool. She’s also kind of hot. Yes I like girls, what are the stares for? Oh right Sasuke… I dunno. Maybe young vampires have some sort of ‘sexy’ aura or something.
“SIR!” it’s an outburst of politeness and effectively silences the stubborn psychotic old man long enough for her to get one more phrase out: “The Regenerates are on the move!”
Regenerates… the way she spits it out makes it sound like something ugly and unclean. Something maculate, an untouchable subject that she hates to even mention unless she has to. It has something of the same effect on Jiraiya; his features fall lax, and he stills. I’d say the color drained from his face, but he had no color anyway.
Even Sasuke stiffened beside me. Jiraiya nods curtly to her. She lets out a frustrated breath and follows him inside, all business-like, calm, quick assured strides. Sasuke and I follow after into the house.
Jiraiya takes her upstairs and when I move to follow them, Sasuke catches my arm and pulls me back to the first floor. “What?!” I hiss, in a low voice, I don’t mean to yell or anything. But what’s his deal?
“The message was for ‘Jiraiya’,” Sasuke repeated to me, as if it were obvious; and really, that much is. I don’t have an IQ of 3, though I believe I know a few people who do… “Neither you nor I fit that description.”
Wait… so ‘cause I’m not some creepy old fart called Jiraiya I can’t even get a glass and go listen at the door?! “And we can’t listen in, why?” Dark eyes narrow at me, as if I am a fool to even consider the option. I hear the door slam upstairs. Darnit!! I’m missing it!!
“Okay. Who’s Sakura?” I ask him, my blood boiling abnormally. I want to be listening to the door, or if not; I want him to explain to me what the heck is going on.
“A messenger of the Order.” Well that sure is useful.
“What’s the Order?”
“A group of vampires.” Wow Sasuke, you’re being really informative today.
“And what are the Regenerates?”
“Another group of vampires.” Great, now all the mysteries of life have been answered. Thanks Sasuke!
Without a second thought I let the molecules in my arm fall away. Sasuke’s hand flounders in the air a moment as I snatch my body already reforming away and up the stairs. “NO!”
Sasuke is only a step behind me. I’m running up three steps at a time. The third door on the first hall. I can hear the faint murmur of their voices. It’s closer. Sasuke’s hand grazes through the still hovering molecules of my wrist. I pull away again, my second hand reaching for the door.
Then my body is slammed into the ground. Sasuke that jerk! He tackled me!!
That same door opens and I jerk my face away to keep from getting hit in the head. Sakura glares down at us. Her mouth curls upwards in something like disgust. “Idiot!” Sasuke whispers to me harshly. Like I care! I wanna know what I’m missing out on here! Someone better fill in the pieces or I’m going to go nuts!
Who the hell is Sakura and who/what the hell is the Order? What are the Regenerates?
“My lord, Jiraiya requests you be present for this as well.” Sakura grit out; but I think she was talking to Sasuke, even though she was glowering at me. What the hell was the ‘my lord’ for? She only addressed Jiraiya as ‘sir’ and even then only to catch his attention. Something to do with age hierarchy? Explain. Please?!
Sasuke lifted himself from my back, but held me still on the ground. I turned my head to glare up at him; he returned the glower. “You. Stay out. We’ll be out soon, and I’ll explain whatever you want me to explain” He warned icily. Sure, because you were so helpful a moment ago!
Then he removes himself and steps into the room. The doors close again, and I stand immediately to put my ear to the door.
I can make out faint murmuring; Jiraiya is talking; so is the girl. But I can’t hear anything else – no words! Shoot, the room’s soundproof?!
I take a breath and again let all my molecules fall apart. A thick cloud moving to the cracks of the door. A wall of cold stops my movement and pushes me back. Great! Sasuke’s exerting his presence to make sure I can’t get in without being forced to solidify and then get kicked out anyway! Peachy, just peachy.
I hang in the air a moment churning in frustration before it comes to me. Airvents! Sure they use them in the movies and all, but the one’s here are way too small for my to fit in. Lucky for me, I can now change my shape. Gas isn’t confined to a definite shape like my body would be! Heheh… I found a loophole!
`
“Even so, the Order should not be contacting me for this sort of thing.” Jiraiya maintained, like the pigheaded old fart he in-fact was.
“But it is still your responsibility as an elder,” Sakura stated, likely for the tenth time during the conversation, if her exasperated tone was any indication. Bowing her head slightly to Sasuke, “You, should be returning as well, my lord. You shouldn’t even be in a backwater like this for as long as you-”
“Backwater?!” Jiraiya interrupted her in irritation. Emerald eyes flashed back at the pale-haired man, a vein in her forehead seemed to stand out and twitch ever so slightly.
“Shut up Jiraiya! That’s exactly what this place is!” the girl declared, annoyed, “If Tsunade were here she’d laugh to see what you’ve become! A recluse playing games off of whatever rats manage to wander to your underground prison! Not at all like the great general of four thousand years before.”
She paused to cross her arms and glare heatedly at the old man, “And who was that upstart out front anyway? He didn’t smell like a-!”
“Did you have a ‘message’ or not?” Sasuke interrupted her coldly, his voice like ice darts thrown directly at her. Sakura stiffened but dropped her assault of questions.
“Facts are, the Regenerates are on the rise,” she started, “There has been a large grouping or activity from them in this area, which is why I came. Obviously the Order is worried. Seeing as this is in your jurisdiction Jiraiya, perhaps it would be possible for you to take care of these disturbances.”
“There are no doubt some in the area, but it’s a small number isn’t it?” Jiraiya half stated, half inquired.
“That won’t be so for long, there’s been a number of disappearances; they’re steadily increasing their numbers.” Sakura bit out, “We need to know if you can take care of this right away before it becomes a large problem in an area where fewer of our own are.” Suddenly she sneered and glanced towards the door, “Obviously not, though. Not if one of your drones can’t tell the difference between an ally or an enemy!”
“Naruto is not a drone!” Jiraiya bit out at her, annoyed with her tone and commanding attitude. I have to wonder, what exactly is a drone? Sasuke hasn’t told me about them yet; I assume that’s because I have yet to encounter one; wonder what it is though…
“Who is ‘Naruto’ anyway?!” Sakura asks suddenly, “I’ve never seen him before, his blood didn’t seem right. There’s something-, is he a human? He’s not a vampire! Not a normal vampire in any case.”
Hey what’s that supposed to mean?! Why does Jiraiya look troubled. Sasuke just looks annoyed with her. “What is up with that?” Sakura asked turned her attention to Sasuke after a moment of Jiraiya’s silence.
“If you would calm yourself a moment,” Sasuke nearly growled at her, “You’re getting yourself worked up over nothing, if you’d just pay attention.”
“No! If he’s not a drone, and he’s not a human, not a vampire; what is he?” Sakura demanded, “He’s dangerous! He nearly carved me open!”
“He didn’t mean to, he didn’t know who you were.” Jiraiya stepped in to my defense as well. Wow, I suddenly have a lot more appreciation for those two. When I’m not around they actually seem to think I’m fairly decent. Is it just that fun to argue with me or something?
“That’s no excuse!” Sakura maintains, “He should still be able to tell who is an enemy and who isn’t just by their scent!”
“And for goodness sake, Naruto is a vamire.” Sasuke seems like he’s rolling his eyes at her; or the equivalent of I can’t really ‘see’ too well since that would involve me actualy misting into the room and Sasuke’s presence where I would be forced back into my true form. So for now, I must infer with sounds.
“What? Really?” She sounds really surprised too, “There is no way his blood is-!”
“I turned him.” Jiraiya explains. Then all three fall silent.
“What?!” It’s accusation in her voice, as if somehow the old fart committed some terrible crime. “Jiraiya, you ‘turned’ him?!!” She’s really shocked. “That’s a criminal offense!!”
What now? Ah! Fan! I hate fans! Why did they have to turn on right now?!
My every floaty molecule is suddenly hit with that icy chill of an exerted presence and is compelled to move back together and condense. I try and hold them apart as long as I can; but it’s a losing battle. All three have gone silent already, as if they can tell I’m there. They probably can too.
Jiraiya scowls, “So we have an eavesdropper.”
Sasuke’s eyes harden and his presence turns into a fist that slams my body back together and I fall the last few feet to the wooden floor.
Emerald eyes stare at me in horror, anger, and disgust. As if I’m some kind of cockroach, unworthy of living; I think I know that look. Someone’s looked at me just like that before…
“You!” she snaps accusingly, eyes flashing. I swear I can feel her muscles rippling with the urge to tear me apart. Try it girlie! I’ll pin you down and snap your neck if I have to.
“For a vampire with superior senses,” Sasuke addressed Sakura; his face looks more amused than angry though, “you couldn’t even tell he was in the room?”
“How dare you?!” She glares hatred at Sasuke. I guess it’s true about redheads; they’re quick to anger; or maybe that’s just her.
“Hey!” I draw her attention back to me as I stand up and dust myself off from the wooden floor. “I don’t get what you want here, or why you’re being so pissy; but you should at least be respectful to those who let you in here.”
My eyes flick quickly between Jiraiya and Sasuke. Sakura stiffens; so at least she knows she’s been rude to them. Geez, what’s her problem. You’d think she was surrounded by monsters and discussing their murder of her parents the way she’s acting.
Her body shifts slightly, and I assume a similar stance – is she seriously going to try and strike out at me here, now? I speak low enough that only she can hear me, “I could always gut you again…” I remind her irritated that she would even consider such a mode of action in this current situation.
Emerald orbs burn with intense hatred, born from where I have to wonder. “Naruto…” Sasuke says, it’s soft enough but I catch it. It’s a warning, but still he seems too amused by this for it to really mean anything as a warning.
“Sakura.” Jiraiya’s voice is louder, commanding. Sakura seems to flinch at the sound then she straightens, her glare darkening; eyes never leaving mine.
“Filthy Regen.” She spits at me. I glare back. I know I’ve been insulted but I don’t know how or why. Regen? Regenerates? Something like that? What the heck does that mean?
“Sasuke, if you would take care of Naruto,” Jiraiya starts, “Sakura and I still have some things we must discuss without interference.”
Sasuke nods, and his arm locks around my shoulders, effectively steering my from the room. The heavy door swings shut behind us. I release a suppressed snarl for the redheaded female just behind those doors. I turn to glare over my shoulder. Who cares if she’s uber hot and sexy! She’s got a terrible personality and is rude and enraging!
Who cares if her hair looks like blood in dark light? Who cares if he eyes look like gems or her skin is that perfect shade of ivory, as if she’s not really dead? Who cares if she’s got thick full lips that are normally tinged lightly pink? Not me!
Sasuke snorts and I stare over at him when he continues to quietly snigger to himself. “For the love of… What?!” I growl at him, and my annoyance shows.
Dark eyes glance at me, amused. What does he think is so funny?! “You really don’t like her, huh?” As if I need to answer that? “I don’t much care for Sakura either.” He admits sighing from behind a smirking grin.
Why does his mouth do that anyway? It’s like he can’t smile without it coming out as something arrogant or conceited. It’s kind of weird in a way, so why does it still make him look so desirable.
“She’s Tsunade’s disciple,” He states as if that explains everything; on seeing my blank look though – thankfully – he elaborates… a bit. “It’s a branch from the Order’s council of elders. Tsunade is the head of one of the main three branches.”
Council of elders, huh? I lick my lips unconsciously, watching his face, “And Jiraiya is on that council?” I ask, curious.
“Officially yes,” Sasuke shrugs as he starts down the hall. I follow him, “though Jiraiya doesn’t usually partake in any of their meetings or decisions. At you’ve seen, he prefers to keep to himself way out here.”
I see, so the Order; is like the vampire government or something. Jiraiya’s a member but he doesn’t like to go in a lot. He’s probably only in there because he can’t quit or because the way their hierarchy is set up does not allow for it. Or was it because he was a ‘general’?
Sakura mentioned something like that, but a general entails a war. Vampires have wars? Oh yeah, and speaking of war… the groups of vampires. The Order, and Regenerates… What’s that about exactly.
Well as long as Sasuke is actually being informative! “What was that with Sakura calling me a Regen? What’s a Regen?” I ask, and then for the heck of it, “And as far as Jiraiya ‘turning’ me, what’s up with that? What was she talking about, calling it a criminal offence? What was that about?”
Sasuke started slightly, dark eyes glancing over me in something like… I don’t know. I’d say surprise, maybe fear; but that’s not right. Before I’d even realized it was really there the look was gone and he stands now watching me in contemplation. “You must have been listening for a while then.”
I nod. No point in denying it. He takes a deep breath before launching into, what will probably be a fairly lengthy explanation. It’s okay; I get to hear his voice, so it’s fine. “The Regenerates are a… rival, vampire group. The Order is primarily comprised of pureblood, purebred, vampires.”
“The Regenerates are those who were once human.” Sasuke glanced side-long at me to test my reaction. I stayed carefully calm. Regenerate… that was probably me. But then… I don’t get it. “Turned by other vampires. The Order and the Regenerates have been warring for a while now.”
“For the past century the council of the Order has forbidden the creation of any vampires from humans.” Sasuke shrugged, “Some get turned anyway of course, accidents and the like.” I would be… ‘the like’, so I’m a special circumstance or am I a fugitive or something now and should be running?
My eyes thin and he seems to notice, “The vampire who turned the regenerate is usually executed along with the turned vampire.” I freeze, and he’s still watching my reaction. He doesn’t look angry, or warning; just cautious. “But you shouldn’t worry.”
“What’s that mean, not worry?” I snort, “You’ve just told me I’m illegal somehow, and now that the Order knows… I’m going to die? And Jiraiya too?”
“I told you not to worry about it.” Sasuke growls suddenly, facing me. I start slightly; there’s something in his eyes; something flickering like crimson just beyond the edge of abyss-like eyes. “I won’t let anything happen to you.”
Heat flares through me and I swear I see crimson burning through the darkness of his eyes. But it’s gone in a flash beneath smoldering dark, so I wonder if I saw it at all.
Possessive.
That’s what that look is. I just recognized it now; along with the heady scent he’s suddenly giving off. Like waves of… I don’t know. I want to say cinnamon, but that’s not it; but it’s like a spice. It’s thick and tangible and it seems to coat the inside of my mouth.
I barely notice as his cool hand rises, and strokes along my neck and shoulder. “I’m going to make it a point, if the Order tries to have anything more to do with this.” It’s a growl and my body pulses with a tightening sense I want to throw myself into him.
His cool hand on my skin drains that feverish heat that might otherwise make me high and leaves me in a haze instead, breathless as I grasp to his words as something real. “I’m going to take care of you.”
You already have darkeyes…
I struggle to breathe, and move my hand to cover his, as I step forward to bridge the small gap between us. “Great,” I breath and glance up at him; a faint burn at my eyes and skin. My gut leaps and writhes in something like joy. I swallow, “So why not take care of my back in my room?”
That hand of his moves from beneath my fingers to fist in my hair. Pale fingers curling around my golden locks, dark eyes glare back in me in something other than anger, pale lips curved up the imitation of a grimace and a smile. “What a smart mouth you’ve got.”
His hands say yes, his eyes say yes, his very voice says yes; but his words… that’s a no. It was an open offer, but I can’t make myself feel any sign of rejection. The hand in my hair tightens for an instant before he pulls away; the door down the hall has opened. His eyes and mine follow the sound and movement.
No, this isn’t rejection. Not really. He wanted to; the desire was there. He wants to, but then why deny it? Is there something else going on as far as him and me? Am I reading into it too much? But if that’s so, then why even bother denying the desire that’s so obviously there?
Jiraiya and Sakura step out from the room. Jiraiya looks down the hall towards us. Sakura does not look, merely gazes straight ahead. The tension is not entirely gone from her body but she does seem relatively calmer than the moments before where rage seemed to be the only emotion she could hold within her.
She stands still and silent like some kind of porcelain doll. Her muscles are tensed, she’s not relaxed; I wouldn’t be either. As she is, I can see her more as the predator I know her to be, rather than the hotheaded female I encountered moments before. She really is very pretty – just like a doll.
“Sasuke.” Jiraiya says beckoning the raven-haired youth to him. Sasuke’s eyes flicker to me briefly, one last look of burning shadows before he stalks towards Jiraiya.
When he speaks again it’s a low voice that is supposedly only meant for Sasuke, but I can hear it clearly from where I stand. I’m not that far away and though she shows no response I can tell that Sakura must hear as well. Of course the information is no doubt from her, or the Order. Same thing I suppose.
“It appears that there’s been a series of attacks near here; the Regenerates.” Jiraiya shakes his head, “They’re young obviously new; they’ve been sloppy. Too many people missing and too much blood in the locations to be kept under wraps effectively.”
“Either they’re young and stupid,” Sasuke agreed, “Or it’s a trap to lure the Order into action.” He sends a quick glare towards Sakura. I don’t miss the hostile flare in his presence. I wonder if Sakura felt it as well.
“Pathetic upstarts,” Jiraiya grumbles in irritation; this whole thing is obviously a pain for him. Though obviously it seems Sakura is under no current power to execute either me or Jiraiya. Whatever happens there… I think I might run for it if anyone tries to kill me. I don’t want to ever suffer that kind of thing again if I can help it.
“Considering the numbers of the missing, they’re probably trying to build their number if nothing else.” Sakura notes from the side. Emerald eyes have slid shut and she has not turned to face them, still standing silent to the side.
She’s trying to be unobtrusive I realize. But she’s doing so with bare restraint. She’s forcing herself, and it shows; though very slightly.
“You think they’re moving simply as a group mob, or are they a part of the main branch; here to provoke a reaction?” Sasuke questions her.
“We weren’t sure. But we’ve only counted their numbers to be approaching fifty at most.” She grits out as politely as she can manage. She forces her voice to relax and come out calm and cool, “We were hoping we could get this problem stamped out before it progresses any further. Since it seems they have even been eluding the hunters.”
“The hunters,” Sasuke muses suddenly, “Why haven’t they dealt with this already? If the Regens are really as sloppy as you say?”
“The hunters group should have been in the area already and dealt with those number already. Yes,” Jiraiya cut in, “But the fact remains that they have not yet been able to do so. Since that is the case, the Order, that is I and the vampires here, are expected to step in.”
“I am aware of the Laws.” Sasuke sighed, all irritation dying in his voice when he addressed Jiraiya. “I’m sure if we do a sweep we can eliminate the lot. Do we know their location? Do they even have a nest currently?”
“We know the location.” Sakura said stepping in, eyes finally opening and turning to face into Sasuke and Jiraiya. “Until the Order’s legions arrive, I will be here. I’ll be happy to help with the sweep.”
Order’s legion? Like law enforcement? Shoot, I don’t want to be here when they get there… they’d kill me or something right?! Jiraiya’s gonna let that happen?! We’re enough to take her out! Then she can’t tell anyone! Jiraiya, seriously?!
“Of course. Naruto will be joining us of course.” Sasuke looks back at me, and his hand motions for me to step over. I do so, but I don’t miss the irked look that crosses Sakura’s features.
Why does she hate me anyway? I may technically be a Regen, but this is the first I’ve heard of it! Not only that, I haven’t done anything to her… much. I mean I nearly ripped her open but that was half an hour ago, and I thought she was an enemy. I mean really; forgive and forget, right?
“Is there a problem with that?” I ask cautiously when Sakura bristles as I step into the circle we’ve got here. I’m even on the other side of Sasuke. What the heck is with her?
She sniffs, but I can tell she’s probably close to holding back a string of curses or something. “Can’t tell the difference between a friend and enemy.” She mutters. I’m about to snarl back, but she interrupts with another mutter still loud enough to count as ‘saying to my face’, “He’ll turn on us the moment our backs are turned.”
YOU LITTLE BIT-!! Oh wait… if she tries to execute me and Jiraiya then yeah… I just might.
“Jiraiya. You really should get rid of your mistake,” that’s me no doubt, “before the legion gets here.” She says it in a low and docile voice, but it’s not a suggestion to Jiraiya. “If you don’t I’ll have to report this back to the Order. You ‘know’ that.”
“I do. And I cannot do what you ask.”
Jiraiya I love you! … but I really don’t want to be suicide buddies or something.
Sakura’s eyes flash up at him angrily, but she reels herself back in pretty quick. Quick enough that I have to wonder if somehow… Jiraiya’s private talk with her was actually some sort of whipping session. I mean; why else would she suddenly try to be so much more compliant?
“Naruto is responsible enough to handle a sweep,” Jiraiya states to her, “He has been trained in basic combat and he has mastered two thirds of the shape-shift forms.”
“Two thirds?” Sakura sniffs, glaring at me from beneath dark lashes, eyes set into a calm face; only her eyes betrayed her disgust that I was even in the same room with her.
“He’s trained enough to hunt,” Jiraiya maintained, “He would be an asset to the sweep.”
“I concur,” Sasuke cut in, a smug twist to his lips. “He’s been learning his combat under me after all.” Somehow there was obvious pride in his voice. Sakura looks like she’d just eaten a bug, “Didn’t you say that he almost killed you before, as well?”
The implied exchange includes the validation of my combat skill. In spite of my insecurity concerning execution and the Order – the prospect of hunting other vampires and not homeless… that’s something I find myself looking forward to. Vampires would probably fight back, and they probably fight well.
Idly I wonder if they all taste as good as Sasuke if I spill their blood? Probably not, but it’s a good daydream. I can feel Sakura’s unease as she gives a curt nod and a grunt as her only consent.
I feel my parasite coil happily as if sensing my anticipation and thoughts of the hunt to come. This time we won’t be hunting something innocent or clean, it will be something I’ve been given explicit orders to kill if I can. I have permission and reason to shed blood; this will be so much fun…
“Jiraiya, if you do not dispose of it before the Order’s legion arrives…” she speaks lastly to Jiraiya, and I know the ‘it’ is me, “I will not be making excuses for you.”
He gives a brief nod of understanding. But he doesn’t look troubled or concern; does he already have a plan for us? I should probably trust him for now, he is my master. But if anyone tries to kill me; I’m leaving, I’m running; and to hell with everything in this world.
It was so much simpler before I was even really aware they had this hierarchy or even organized groups of other vampires. I want it to be simpler. I just want m simple world of being with Sasuke and not having to worry back.
I won’t worry. It’s simple, it’s still very simple. I’ll wait and see; if Jiraiya has a plan, I’ll trust him. If not, then he doesn’t. Someone, anyone, tries to kill me; I’m running and not coming back. I’ll miss Sasuke a load, I know that much; but I’ll live. I don’t want to die. That I will avoid at any and all costs.
Emerald eyes shift to me in loathing before she turns and starts down the stairs. Jiraiya breezes off in the other direction. Sasuke alone stands nearby to see me swell in mutual dislike for the infuriating female. “Alright?” Sasuke ponders considering my expression.
“Geez!” I finally wheeze in outburst, and it all pours out; “I only tried to kill her once! Anyone could have made that mistake!”
“Don’t have any hard feelings, Naruto.” Sasuke sighs as me, as if it’s childish for me to blame her for her actions and her unfounded disgust with me. “She just hates you since you’re technically a Regenerate.”
“SO?! I haven’t DONE anything to her!” I insist. It still doesn’t make sense. I know that’s why she hates me but what the heck! Sasuke doesn’t hate me, obviously Jiraiya doesn’t! So what’s her beef, or are Sasuke and Jiraiya just incredibly irregular vampires? … that may be true.
“Sakura hates the lot of them,” Sasuke shrugs, “A group of them killed her family after all. She lived in an isolated nest, she lost them during a raid; she was still young then. Not even 50 I think.”
I start slightly at that thought, the law was made a century ago, right? “So this war has been going on for a century?” But that’s it right?
“Probably longer than that.” Sasuke sighs. History, it’s a tedious subject I know; but this stuff is in fact new to me! Hey hold on… fifty; young. So Sasuke… is older than Sakura? Sakura’s probably over 100, Sasuke is… how old?
“It’s wrong though.”
“What is?” Sasuke asks me. I didn’t even realize I’d said it aloud until Sasuke called my attention to it. But it is true, it is wrong.
“Something is obviously very wrong,” I continue my thought, “if it’s turned someone that gorgeous into a girl who hates indiscriminately.”
“So you think she’s gorgeous?” Sasuke ponders, “What about me I wonder?” he leans back to the wall, I don’t think he meant me to respond because he continues.
“You’re right though. It is wrong, for something to turn that previously uncorrupted kind girl so that she seeks nothing but vengeance for a wrong that will never be righted.”
