The Wolf and the Fox...
Part IX...

The night was spent in preparation. Kushina stopped once as a pained howl was heard faintly in the distance. She cried as she worked. They covered her left foreleg in mud and dirt to imitate the withered leg Tsunade carried around. She had to keep reminding herself not to use it.
Shikamaru went over the plan with her a few times before he and Shizune went ahead of her into the wolves’ lands. It went against his very grain, but he resigned himself hoping that the fox god of theirs would listen and grant them a miracle.
He and Shizune sniffed out Naruto's location it was difficult to track his scent but the scent of wolves was strong. All the clans in the area congregated as one large pack. As dawn approached they hid themselves amongst the vast cavern system hoping not to be found.
Kushina knew her part she hobbled into the wolves’ territory giving a piercing howl to announce her presence.

Itachi was awoken by the high pitched howl of what he guessed to be a fox. He snorted, "Probably after the golden fox." He didn't wake his brother but Naruto shot up. He recognized that voice that pierced the early morning. He didn't say anything. Sasuke was still holding tightly, "Please don't leave me Naru…" Sasuke mumbled in his sleep before he began to whine and tremble.
"Stay with him fox," Itachi ordered, "I cannot guarantee your safety while I am out, but nobody would dare to come into my den without permission." He got up to leave followed by the few bitches he favored enough to allow them to share his sleeping space. Naruto was left with Sasuke.

Kushina stood nervously in the place she was instructed by Tsunade. This place was considered sacred to the wolves and no blood is to be shed here. It was the place where all the clans came together to form one tribe many generations past and it is suppose to be forbidden to attack anyone who requests an audience with the tribe while on those grounds. It was a barren place with only rock surrounded by massive pines on all sides making it a dark and dull place. The lack of color made Kushina's gold fur seem that much more brilliant.
She stood in the center a single shaft of light penetrated the thicket and made her coat shine.
Then the eyes appeared gold, blue, brown and red.
Yes at the very center of the accusing eyes was a pair that could only be described as the color of blood. Kushina blinked but kept her posture of superiority.
"State your business fox," The voice came from the dead center, "Or perhaps I can enlighten the pack?" A black nose then muzzle pushed its way out of the shadows. Eyes still breathtakingly bright; the black wolf's fur seemed dull almost translucent against the shadows, "You are here for one of your own. A young male fox correct?" Kushina nodded afraid to speak just yet, "You are Tsunade I presume? Your reputation precedes you; you are quite beautiful and proud. You resemblance to the young todd is striking are you his mother?" She shook her head, "I am not his mother." It hurt to deny the truth, "Our clan wishes him to come home. He is the last male golden fox. With him goes our race."
"Is that so, well why should our tribe care if there are no more gold foxes? There are other varieties of foxes, silver…and black."
Itachi turned his head to the left and struggling in the mouth of a bluish black wolf was Shizune, "Tell me Tsunade why we should trust a liar. Your scent nearly matches the little todd that my brother has mated and bonded with."
Kushina gasped, "Give me my son!" She growled charging the black wolf. He stood his ground. She attempted to bite into his neck, but he knocked her to the ground easily.
"You are an outsider here, but I will warn you only once, this place is not for the shedding of blood. I will let you and the other vixen go, along with the buck (he nodded in the opposite direction and Shikamaru stumbled into the clearing. His leg was injured but he would live, if the wolves did not turn on them.
"Forget about your kit. He is part of our pack now. I cannot separate my brother from the one he loves," Itachi warned them. Kushina growled and lunged for the wolf once more; a strong foreleg stopped her gently. She looked up with tears in her eyes, "I am sorry Kushina, we were found out. There are just too many of them."
Kushina let out an anguished howl. A few of the more sympathetic wolves joined her, but the law was what it was. The young fox belonged to the Uchiha clan. The wolves left them there in the dark clearing. Kushina was inconsolable. Shikamaru limped away. Shizune pulled the protesting mother away. She had lost her only child and her only tie to her lost mate.

A pair of dull grey eyes peered in on the sleeping and injured wolf and the small beautiful fox that lay tangled in his legs it was obvious that the fox had been crying. The white wolf stalked into the cave everybody else was at the meeting place. Haiden had decided it was time to exact his revenge on the two black wolves. In Sasuke's state there would be not fighting him off, but he decided the best revenge would be to take that sweet looking fox and have his way with it then kill it and leave it for Sasuke to find. The fox looked on in disbelief; his voice failed him as he tried to choke out a growl. He whined and Sasuke's limbs tightened around him. Haiden snatched the fox by a back leg dragging him out of the den. Naruto yelped in pain bringing Sasuke around, but his senses were still a bit dulled from the effects of the plant that had been forced down his throat the previous evening. He was on his legs and stumbled, "Haiden!" Sasuke staggered after the retreating wolf. Haiden was just too quick for the injured wolf to keep up. Sasuke let out a pained howl calling for help of his kin.

Itachi left not feeling unsympathetic for the female that had her kit ripped from her. It was cruel even for a wolf but it was the law. The fox would live. Sasuke would not survive the separation from the little thing. Itachi knew. He himself lost his mate, she was a beautiful black bitch, but he lived for his brother, and he bread for his clan. He didn't necessarily like breeding with the bitches, but it gave physical pleasure and preserved their pack.
He was broken from his reverie by the howl of his bother. Sasuke broke into a run. He found his brother and the fox were gone. His first thought was that the todd ran, but the smell of white wolf tainted his den. He growled, "Haiden you fool!" He followed his brother's scent into the forest.
