First Chapter:
Behind The Four Hokage
Tsunade continued down the stone passageway, the oil lamps hanging from the walls lighting her way. She was traveling through the secret corridors built behind the Hokage Monument with her dedicated assistant Shizune and her fellow Sannin Jiraiya close on her heels. These were mainly used as a holding area for women and children when the village needed to be evacuated, however, this is not their only purpose. When matters of the utmost importance needed to be discussed a meeting is held here in complete secrecy.
Tsunade came upon her destination, a dark in the very heart of thedingding area. Knowing full well what she was about to face the Fifth inhaled deeply, stiffening her resolve, before entering. The room was much darker than the passageway outside; only three lit candles were place sec sections on a long scrub wooden table. Perhaps it was tradition, but Tsunade hardly saw the need for secrecy, she most likely could guess everyone that was in the room. As Shizune closed and locked the door behind them Tsunade walked to the head of the table and turned to face the table before her.
“Good evening gentlemen,” she began taking this opportunity to look at the people seated around the table. Although their faces were cast in shadow the healer could righsay say that most of them were Jounins. “I am correct in saying we know why we are here tonight, otherwise you would not be sitting here at all.” She paused for a moment before continuing. “With that said I officially declare this meeting in session. Now it has been brought to my attention that nine of our newly appointed Jounins have been behaving in a manner that disgraces the Hidden Leaf. Is that correct?”
“Yes, Hokage-sama,” muttered one of the shadowy figures at the far end of the table. His voice was easily recognizable as the elite tutor, Ebisu. Looking down at the list of shinobi in question, Tsunade could understand why he was present. He must have taken the irregular behavior of this ninja as a personal insult.
“Now let me get this straight… You suggest I order these ninja’s dismissal and eviction from the Fire Country only because they homosexuals?” Tsunade stared around the table determined to keep the disgust fher her expression. The sexual preference of these ninja’s is completely personal. What gave these ninja’s… The Konoha High Council… Anybody the right to impose their opinion in a matter that is none of their business in the first place? “Tell me,” the Fifth continued, “why should I take away the dreams of nine exceptional ninja’s?”
“Hokage-sama,” came the voice of special Jounin Mitarashi Anko, “we bring this to your attention for the good of Konoha. It is true that whatever these ninja’s do in their own time is none of our business but their choice in partners is setting a bad example for the rest of us.”
“So, you are saying this is not a personal matter, but a professional one?” The ninja’s seated at the table murmured in agreement. Tsunade nodded her head glumly; despite what they said she knew their decision was purely personal. “I notice three names on this list who are not ninja of the Hidden Leaf. Explain to me their role in this.”
“Kira, the nineteen-year old brother and Rei, the seventeen-year old sister, are good friends with Yamanaka Ino,” began the captain of the Leaf’s ANBU Torture and Interrogation Unit, Morino Ibiki. “They arrived in Konoha one year ago around the same time as this behavior began.”
“Sounds to me like your blaming them,” Tsunade commented. “There is a third name listed here. What does the Sand ninja, Gaara, have to do with this?”
“He is Kira’s boyfriend and is currently staying in the village with the siblings at Yamanaka Ino’s apartment” Ibiki replied. “He has not returned to the Hidden Sand in the last six months. This gives us reason to believe that he has abandoned his village and is now classified a Missing Nin.”
Tsunade did not reply for a moment. She could only imagine what would happen if the Wind Country discovered they were harboring one of their Missing Nin. For one thing the relationship between their two countries would be ruined entirely. “Alright,” Tsunade said finally, “Morino Ibiki kindly, ask the three to leave Konoha, but no more than that. If he truly has abandoned his village, let the Sand’s Hunter Nin decide his fate.”
“As you wish, Hokage-sama,” the ANBU captain replied.
“As for the dismissal of the nine Jounin,” Tsunade continued, “the Council has already come to a decision, but before I finalize it I want to double check with their sensei’s.” The Fifth bowed her head sadly and stared at the list before her. Nine Jounin… Nine extremely talented Jounin about to have their whole lives snatched away from them just because their love life is not considered appropriate. “Hatake Kakashi,” she said suddenly, “are you positive you wish to dismiss the members of Team 7, Haruno Sakura, Uchiha Sasuke and Uzumaki Naruto?”
“Sadly yes,” Kakashi replied in a low voice.
“Yuuhi Kurenai, do you confirm the dismissal of Inuzuka Kiba and Hyuuga Hinata?”
“Yes Hokage-sama,” the female ninja answered.
“Sarutobi Asuma,” the Hokage continued, “do you confirm the dismissal of Nara Shikamaru and Yamanaka Ino?”
“Yes Hokage-sama.”
“Lastly, Maito Gai. Do you agree to dismiss your students Rock Lee and Hyuuga Neji?”
“I do agr agree with it, no,” Gai replied, “but in their best inertest I will go through with my decision.”
Tsunade nodded sadly. “I see… Although this goes against my better judgment I am bound as Hokage to hold up the reputation of the Hidden Leaf. These nine ninja are dismissed, they have one month to evacuate the Country.”
“One month, Hokage-sama?”
“Yes, Ebisu,” Tsunade replied as she stood from the table. “I am a medical nin first, a diplomat second. Hyuuga Hinata is eight months pregnant and I refuse to cause her stress in such a delicate state. The eviction notice comes into effect after her child is born and that is final.”
