A Stranger in the Forest

This little story evolved from the My Little Choji-kun fic. It sort of explains some of the other pairings.

Disclaimer: I do wish I didn't have to admit this. I do not own Naruto or any of the characters of the Anime/Manga. I make no profit and spend a lot of my time on these stories.

Ino Blink of the Eye

A Jounin must move faster than light to avoid being seen, and an ANBU must be a shadow’s shadow. Love is a fleeting thing, like a butterfly’s wings that are beautiful, but break so easily. Elite trained Shinobi were abundant these days, but a new friend is an unusual thing to find. A lover is even more rare.

1. A Stranger in the Forest

As the sun dropped over the horizon and the sounds of the forest behind him calmed for the onset of evening, Genma settled himself for a turn at watch.
He scanned the proximity and listened for anything that was not natural for the area.
His instincts were sharp, though his disinterested attitude belied his actual concentration.
He tipped the ever-present toothpick in his lips, testing the wind speed and direction. A storm was building, but they would be up and on their way before it reached the camp.
Genma moved among the trees, leaping from branch to branch as he surveyed the area, aware that his comrades were depending on his skill to keep them safe.
A new smell assailed this senses. The droll Jounin stopped and angled his head into the breeze. The scent was strong to the east and he was down wind of the intruder. He moved toward it, ever wary of a trap.
His path brought him to a clearing where a lone figure camped under a small bush without a fire. This person did not want to be detected. He could tell by the careful way the camp was set up. No fire and only the smallest infringements on the natural setting.
Genma moved to his right, eyeing the tent for any movement within. Two small feet were all that he could see from his location.
Genma looked around the clearing determining the best way to close the distance undetected. It was a good setup. No one less than special Jounin level would be able to get to the target without detection. If there were an ANBU after this person, he would be doomed, however.

Back in camp, a young Genin crawled out of his tent and poked at the dying embers of the campfire. He looked around for his sensei and not seeing the man, settled to watch the flames lick the sides of the logs that were set there.
Konohamaru kicked at the dirt, as he stretched out against a large fallen tree truck and yawned. His pants bunched up around his knees as he shifted and his long scarf trailed off behind him. He was bored but not tired enough to sleep anymore, besides Udon snored. So he stretched out to wait for Genma-Sensei and then pester the Droll Jounin into teaching him some new moves.
He was talented, Iruka Sensei had told his mother, when he was supposed to be too far away to hear, and he had picked up a large number of new talents since his days as Naruto’s underling.
And now at thirteen years old and a member of Genma’s team six, he was an integral part of one of the most sought after genin team in all of Konoha.
A sound brought him out of his musings as Genma entered the glade, followed by a stranger to the boy. His sensei strolled up to the fire, tossed in a few small logs and sat down, followed by the other man.
“Konohamaru, go back to bed.” He was ordered and he rose slowly glaring at the strange person, as he went. “Stop pouting and go to bed. It isn’t any of your business, now go!”
Genma sounded angry and the boy leapt to obey. It was a rare thing for the Jounin to snap and he wasn’t about to face the kind of punishments that seemingly bored face, could house.
Once he was safely in his tent, Genma turned to the stranger. “Okay, now tell me again, in detail. What do you know, that could possibly get the Hidden Village of the Leaf to accept you, after running away from your own village?”
The small Ninja sank to the ground near the fire and breathed out. “It is about the traitor, Yakushi Kabuto.” And a long story followed.

:::Okay, so tell me if it is worth going on. What do you think?????
