Chapter 1

“Would you like to have some fun tonight, Mister?” I tried to say playfully as the man reached for his keys.

The blond man paused in his action to stare at me. He remained silent, a light frown on his lips as he studied my appearance. I shifted on my feet. The blatant scrutiny was starting to make me feel uncomfortable. Luckily for me, the man decided it was time to tear his eyes away from my figure and toss his briefcase haphazardly in the car’s backseat. I leaned my back against the car as I watched him get in the driver’s seat and click on his seatbelt. I released a low sigh as I picked myself up.

Well, that turned out well.

I had started to take a few steps away from the car when I heard the engine start. My interest was reawakened when the car seemingly refused to move from its spot. I glanced back just in time to see him click on his headlights. The window started to roll down.

“Get in,” he said to me.

I grinned in triumph as I quickly turned and settled myself in the car’s luxurious passenger seat.

Chapter 1

I wrapped my worn coat tighter around myself to save what little heat I had left. Rubbing my hands together furiously, I let out little puffs of breath that peculiarly looked like cotton balls to me at the moment.

It was my third night in the city. I had spent the little money I’d had left this morning for a carton of milk and a piece of bread. I had not anticipated the train ticket to Tokyo to cost that much. If I didn’t get my hands on some money soon, I was going to freeze to death or die due to starvation before I even caucht a glimpse of that man.

I cursed under my breath as I tried to bury half my face in my scarf.

“What’s the matter, boy? Cold?”

I warily glanced up from the park bench I was sitting on to find a middle-aged salary man smiling friendlily at me. I ignored him and decided to concentrate on making my hands warmer instead.

“I can bring you to a much warmer place you know --- one where you’d feel much more comfortable,” I heard him once more.

I’d heard of these things occurring in the city, and seen it in movies as well, but I honestly thought they were mere rumors or urban myths. Was it really that easy to invite a stranger to spend the night with you?

I mumbled a quick, “No thanks” to the man before hurriedly fleeing the scene. Not ten minutes had passed when another old man halted my steps for an invitation. I quickly and less politely dismissed his advances before almost breaking into a run for the nearest bus stop.

Surely, no one would try to pick me up in such a brightly lit place, right?

My stomach grumbled loudly, eliciting a look of surprise from the older woman beside me, whom I assume was actually waiting for the bus. I hardly suppressed an embarrassed flush as I tried my hardest not to look at the lady. Thankfully not a few seconds later, a bus arrived diverting the lady’s attention as she readied to board the vehicle. I shook my head at the driver signaling that this wasn’t the bus I was waiting for before I settled myself to lean on the lamppost once more.

I was starving. I was tired, and I was damn cold. It would be impossible for me to find a decent job in such a short amount of time, even more so to actually convince my employer for advance pay. The only plausible way for me to spend the night under a warm roof would be if--- I considered one of the offers I’d been declining all night. My lips tightened into a grim line, disgusted by the thought that I was seriously considering the matter. My stomach growled once more as if to taunt my already pitiful state. I straightened my back with resolve. If I was really going to do this, I might as well be the one to choose who my benefactor would be.

I shivered as the first gust of cold wind hit my face. Damn Kakashi for making me stay this late. I glanced at my watch to validate my assumptions as to just how late it was. 9:42 pm, the little mechanical device taunted me with bright blue glowing numbers. It really should be illegal to make someone work after six, especially on a night as cold as this one. I cursed none too discreetly as I made my way to the meters. The only good thing that had happened tonight was the lack of necessary trips that I usually had to make to the parking meter every couple of hours. Apparently, it was free to park on the street after working hours. I stuffed my right hand in my pant pocket to grab my desperately needed car keys.

“Would you like to have some fun tonight, Mister?”

The seemingly out of nowhere question momentarily halted any brain functions I had. I tilted my head cautiously towards the source, and did all I could at the moment. I stared.

It was a man, or rather a boy, who had offered me the invitation --- a boy with spiky hair, and piercing eyes, both the color of the darkest night. I curiously noted that his unnaturally fair skin was sporting flushed cheeks. Though I do not know if it was because of the cold night, or because of the embarrassing question he’d just asked.

I noticed that my stare has started to make him uneasy. He started to shift his weight from one foot to the other. He couldn’t be older than twenty.

I pulled my door open and before I realized it, I’d tossed my briefcase on the backseat. Deciding to ignore everything that had happened in the last five minutes, I quickly shut the door beside me, unwilling to let any more cold wind mess with my mind. I settled myself comfortably in the front seat before checking the mirrors and buckling up. I sneaked a glance at the boy with black hair who was still leaning against my car. I cursed out loud before I pushed the window open. I released a loud sigh before caving in.

“Get in,” I heard myself say rather calmly as if the whole situation was not bothering me one bit.

I kept my eyes focused forward, as I heard him come in the other side and buckle up for safety. I inhaled a deep breath before setting my feet into action and switching the gear from park.
