“Yoh,” says the instantly likable Hatake Kakashi as he suddenly pops out of nowhere, crouching atop the mahogany table at the center of the room. But this Jounin ( high rank ninja) needs no introduction. By now almost everyone knows who Hatake Kakashi is – or, at the very least, they know him as the Jounin sensei of the three most popular ninjas ever to emerged in Konoha – namely Uzumaki Naruto, Uchiha Sasuke & Haruno Sakura.
Little is known about this masked avenger and we are here to try and put light to what his fans are desperately trying to find out about their favorite Jounin.
And albeit all the pulling of strings and hopelessly trying to catch up with this hard-to-get-a-hold-of person, we finally got a chance to speak with him in Konoha about life, friends and relationships, shortly before he is scheduled to teach his students a new Taijutsu technique.
Solstice Philomena : Thank you so much for taking a few minutes from your busy schedule to adhere to us today .
Hatake Kakashi: It was my pleasure. ( his eyes crinkles and it does the smiling for him)
Solstice Philomena: From what I have heard, your current students; Naruto, Sakura & Sasuke, were the first batch of students you passed. What was it you saw on these kids that you didn’t see on your past trainees?
Hatake Kakashi.: They stood up for each other. Up till then the other trainees did everything I told them to do. A ninja must read underneath the underneath and they must take care of their friends and work as a team.
Solstice Philomena: I can see that you put teamwork high on your list. Has there been anyone you once worked with as team?
Hatake Kakashi: Yes, unfortunately he has died while working on a mission for Konoha.
Solstice Philomena. : Oh , I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to bring that up.
Hatake Kakashi.: It’s ok. I know that he died for the sake of our country and that he will always be honored and remembered.
Solstice Philomena.: Speaking of colleagues, you have been reported as to having quite a rivalry with a certain Maito Gai. Can you tell us about that one?
Hatake Kakashi.: We have been friendly rivals since we were kids.
Solstice Philomena: Is it true that he’s ahead in your match record, which stands at 50 wins and four losses?
Hatake Kakashi: ( raises his eyebrows before he answers) where do you get all those stuff? It’s true. And he’s kind of a loud mouth when it comes to our matches. I don’t suppose he told you that these records include rock scissor paper games when we were kids?
Solstice Philomena: No. He certainly didn’t. (laughs). Anyway, we also got this information that you have a knack for arriving terribly late for assemblies. Any denials on that one?
Hatake Kakashi.: I do sometimes appear late to meetings but I always make sure I make it there. Better late than never.
Solstice Philomena.: You once made your students meet you at 5 a.m. and yet you didn’t get there until 11:10 am.
Hatake Kakashi.: I got lost.
Solstice Philomena: You got lost, and it took you MORE THAN SIX HOURS ????
Hatake Kakashi.: Uh, yes…
Solstice Philomena: Exactly where did you go?
Hatake Kakashi: I forgot my book. So I had to return back home.
Solstice Philomena: Your place is that far away, huh?
Hatake Kakashi: Yep.
Solstice Philomena: And this book of yours. It must be really important to you, if you had to go all the way back home to retrieve it.
Hatake Kakashi: I sort of use it as a guide. For my teachings.
Solstice Philomena: And I may presume that this book is the one they call “ Come Come Paradise”?
Hatake Kakashi: Man, your good.
Solstice Philomena: When did you start reading it?
Hatake Kakashi: I started reading it on my 18th birthday.
Solstice Philomena: And now your?
Hatake Kakashi: 26.
Solstice Philomena: And your STILL not finished?
Hatake Kakashi : Well, I like it .
Solstice Philomena: Wow. That’s like eight years already. You must really be fond of this book.
Hatake Kakashi: Yeah. This book helps me know what is important to a ninja.
Solstice Philomena: But the theme of the book is “love”.
Hatake Kakashi: I know…..
Solstice Philomena: And I believe it is slightly….. no, a very perverted book.
Hatake Kakashi: Maybe we could just keep that as our little secret. (grins)
Solstice Philomena: I understand that the author of the book is the Sannin Jiraiya?
Hatake Kakashi: That’s correct.
Solstice Philomena: And are all his other book borders on the umm … perverted?
Hatake Kakashi: (grins again) You should ask him that.
Solstice Philomena: Hmmm. Anyway, all through out the season no one has seen you eat with your peers. How come?
Hatake Kakashi: Actually I do eat out with them. I just eat fast
Solstice Philomena: Do you always eat quickly?
Hatake Kakashi.: I think so. A Jounin must not show any openings during a meal. That's basic, so I eat very fast.
Solstice Philomena: I see. Alright, since were on the subject of wining and dining, any particular person you are currently seeing lately? Someone you had taken out to dinner?
Hatake Kakashi: Meaning?
Solstice Philomena: Are there any females running through your mind lately?
Hatake Kakashi: I like tons of girls.
Solstice Philomena: And?
Hatake Kakashi: And what?
Solstice Philomena: Which ones?
Hatake Kakashi : (leans over and whispers). Secret.
Solstice Philomena; ( I’m not one to be easily deterred) There happens to be rumors floating around regarding a geninn who spotted you going out on a date with some woman. And she was said to be looking suspiciously a lot like Yuuhi Kurenai?
Hatake Kakashi : Yuuhi?
Solstice Philomena: Yes. If it’s true I applaud your taste. She is very beautiful.
Hatake Kakashi: (grins) Date her? Not unless I want another hand to hand combat with Sarutobi.
Solstice Philomena: No way. Are you telling me that something is going on with Sir Sarutobi and Ma’m Yuuhi?
Hatake Kakashi : You didn’t hear it from me. (laughs)
Solstice Philomena: Hmmmmm. Ok. Let’s go on. Life is pretty hard as a ninja. Why did you chose to be one?
Hatake Kakashi.: I have always wanted to be very good at something and The Fourth, Yondaime, gave me the vision as to what I can be great at.
Solstice Philomena: The Yondaime?. Isn’t he the one who saved Konoha 12 years ago from the Nine Tails Fox Demon?
Hatake Kakashi.: Yes.
Solstice Philomena: And what about the boy, Naruto?
Hatake Kakashi.: Naruto has been improving a lot lately. He has learned to control his chakra and tap into the hidden power within him. He has progressed better than I expected under Jiraiya.
Solstice Philomena: Hmmm. I can’t help but notice that the boy Naruto seems to be taught by great ninjas, however you seem to forget your duties to him as his guardian. Do you actually prefer solely teaching Sasuke Uchiha than your other male student?
Hatake Kakashi: I never looked at it that way. It is just that Naruto is an easily trainable person. He can master techniques even when he is all on his own. Sasuke on the other hand craves for power and it is very, very dangerous if he is left on his own. He may get influenced by people who have not-so-good intentions and lure him into their traps.
Solstice Philomena.: So you really do care a lot about your students.
Hatake Kakashi: Yes. I do.
Solstice Philomena: Glad to hear that. You’re not as unfeeling and unruffled as I have heard. Thank you for your time. And hope to see you soon

Solstice Philomena: Among Konoha ninjas, you are supposedly the only one wearing a mask. Doesn’t that inconvenience you? Why is your face always hidden?
Hatake Kakashi: ( Turned fully around now and smiled) Not at all. It actually helps me in more than ways than one.
Solstice Philomena: Like?
Hatake Kakashi: It keeps the women at bay. ( grins)
Solstice Philomena: ( I raised my eyebrows, now really intrigued) I know that you are rumored to BE handsome. Would you permit me to be a judge of that?
Hatake Kakashi: You are saying?
Solstice Philomena: ( I let out a quiet breathe) Can I see your face? You know, to add thrill to the interview.
Hatake Kakashi didn’t reply. He suddenly became quiet and seemed to be seriously pondering whether to respond to my request. My hands stealthily reached into my kunai pouch. I kept a hand held camera in there for those one in a life time moments. And I was hoping right now is one of them.
Finally he nodded. Slowly raised my camera. Then he dramatically removes his mask to reveal ………….. another mask……..
