Ghosts of the past

* A/n: I’m on a roll :))))…for the readers of Marble statue I just wanted to inform you that I have no intention on stopping that story or to delay the update. It’s just that this grate idea hit me and it wouldn’t live me alone. So here goes nothing :P

* Summary: the story takes place in the third secret world war. So that means that non of the characters as naruto,sasuke and so on where born yet. The fic will revolve around Anko and Kakashi. I’ve just made some character info so you’ll know a little about every important personage. Also for the ones that are familiar only with the anime there will be some spoilers.

**Mitarashi Anko: she’s 12; she has no parents or other living relatives. She was borne in Konoha and is now Orochimaru’s apprentice. Her intelligence and knowledge surpass that of a chuunin but at the moment her rank is genin. She loves dango and sweet red bean. She can be loud and childishly but also very serious and focused when the situation asks for.

**Hatake Kakashi: he’s 14; he’s still a chuunin that means that Obito is still alive in this story (yyyyeeeeyyyy:P). His father, Hatake Sakumo (White Fang) , was disgraced after he abandoned a mission to save his friends, but because of that, Konoha suffered great losses and the village and his companions blamed the White Fang for that, in the end his father committed suicide. He’s very strict when it comes to rules. He doesn’t have any close friends and doesn’t much care for his teammates. He holds a great deal of respect for his teacher the Yondaime.

**Umino Iruka: he’s 13; he’s rank is genin and his teammate with Mizuki and Tsubaki. He’s kind and very loyal to his friends. He love’s ramen and to pull as he like’s to say it “innocent little pranks”. His parents are still alive and his father is consider a grate jounin while his mother is a medic nin under the supervision of Tsunade.


**Shizune: she’s 12; there’s nothing much on her background in the story so I just had to make everything up. But there is something that bothers me. When they meet Orochimaru and Kabuto, Tsunade starts to think about the deal that was offered to her and Shizune says ‘You mustn’t trust them! Your little brother and my uncle do not wish for that’ so in other words she’s Dan’s niece. I don’t know if that’s true but in my fic Dan’s her uncle. She’s under the tutorial of Tsunade preparing her self to become a great medical nin just like her teacher. I don’t know her middle name so I’m just going to call her by her first name.


**Maito Gai: he’s 14; He considers him self as Kakashi’s greatest rival. He has a lot of energy and loves to make a scene. Although in the end he wants Kakashi to recognize him for the grate ninja that he is, he will never admit it and prefers to make a fool out of him self by asking his rival to compete with him.


**Orochimaru: no idea how old is he (just let your imagination float); He hates every thing that involves Konoha and the Hokage. He does a lot of illegal experiments on human beings and has a grate aspiration for power and eternal life. He took Anko in his care because he thinks that she’s a genius and that she will become his successor. He’s the most powerful of the three sannins. His is still a nija of Konoha but only by name.


**Tsunade: - ; one of the three sannins she is a very beautiful women and a feared ninja. Her skills as a medical nin are beyond impressive and her intelligence saved Konoha countless times. She’s in love with a jounin named Dan (yes Dan is still alive) because he was the only one to help her overcome the loss of her brother. She’s the granddaughter of the first Hokage and has inherited one of his most precious possessions, a very valuable necklace.

**Jiraya: -; the last of the three sannins he gives the impression that his nothing but a perverted man who likes to pick in communal bath houses for women. But after all he was one of Sarutobie’s students does being consider a great ninja. His obsessions for frogs had brought him the title White-heard frog tamer. He’s the teacher of Yondaime.


**Yondaime: -; He’s not the Hokage in the story (at list not yet). He’s known as Konoha’s yellow flash because of his incredible speed and power but also because of his unique technique Shunshin no jutsu(1). His teacher is the grate Jiraya for which he has a lot of respect. (I don’t know the real name of the Yondaime so I’ll just call him Yuki in this fic; I hope you like it: P)

~~~ Shinobi rule 26 ~~~

* ‘The sun is so big. It gives us light and warmth. It’s essential for plants, animals and humans. But if I close my eyes I can’t see it anymore. So how do I know is there? How can a blind man be sure that it’s there? It’s because he can fell it or because other people tell him about it? And if so can you trust what you fell or what people tell you? If you fell that there is no sun but someone comes and tell you that you’re wrong what should you do? Which path will you chose? Are you going to believe your senses or other persons? Which path is good? Which road should I chose? ’

“Day dreaming again Anko?”

A girl around 12 years old raised her head from the ground to look at the person who was questioning her. She had purple hair tide in a spiky pony tail and chocolate eyes. Her face lacked maturity but was fairly pretty. Her cloths where composed of a pair of kaki short pants, a brown t-shirt, fishnet socks that reached above her knees and of course the blue sandals so common for nijas. She grinned at the one in front of her.

“I was just thinking about something sensei.”

* The man gave a little smile. He had long, black hair and ghostly white face. His eyes where yellow and reminded the girl of the ones of a snake. He sat near her.

“Pray tell what where you dream… thinking.”

“Nothing important Orochimaru-sensei. Why are you here? Did something happened?”

“Am I not allowed to see my student? I thought that you wanted to train but if that’s not the case then I’ll just… ”

Anko jumped from the ground, her grin grooving larger.

“Of course I want to train sensei. I just thought that you were on a mission. You’ve been overworked this past month so I didn’t want to bother you. After all everybody knows that you’re the best ninja in Konoha.”

The man laid his head back on his hands. He had a bored expression on his face.

“What’s the point in being the best ninja in a village that…” But he stopped and roused from the ground.

“Let’s not get in those discussions. How about you show me the summoning technique?”

The girl shocked her head with enthusiasm and started heading towards a more opened part of the training ground. This was a special area only for the ANBU’s but being Orochimaru`s student she was allowed to come here as long as she didn’t caused any trouble. She didn’t have any friends her age to pass time with. Well she didn’t have many friends at all. Not because she was a bad person but because she didn’t have time for friendship. If she wasn’t training with Orochimaru-sensei she was annoying Tsunade-niichan. She finally stopped and turned to her teacher.

‘Ok. This is my chance to show sensei that I’m good enough to go on missions with him. Don’t blow it up Anko! Concentrate!’

She took a kunai from her holster and cut one of her fingers. A small wound appeared as blood started oozing on her hand. She did a couple of seals and concentrate.

“Inu, ousu-buta, saru, tori, o-hitsugi(2)! Kuchiyose no Jutsu(3)! “

Her hand hit the ground and a poof of smoke covered the area. When it finally cleared out a giant snake with brown spots on his back appeared. Anko was so happy that the technique worked that she almost wanted to do a happy dance. Well, almost. She turned her attention to Orochimaru who noded his head in agreement for her success. Then all of a sudden the snake started hissing and spiting at the girl. He attacked Anko opening his large mouth to tear her limb for limb. The girl stared in shock and waited for the impact but it never came. Orochimaru cut the snake in to two easily as tough he was cutting butter. With another poof of smoke the creature disappeared. Anko felled on her knees. A second ago she was the happiest person on the planet and now she felt like digging o hole in the ground and hide in it. Orochimaru was now holding the famous Kusanagi(4) sword. A snake appeared on the man’s hand and swallowed the weapon (A/n: I know that in the anime he swallow’s the sword himself but that’s just eeewww:P ). Then exactly like the previous one it disappeared. He walked slowly towards the girl and patted her head.

“What did I tell you Anko? It’s not enough to summon the creature. You have to control it. You’re the master.”

“But Jiraya said that you have to be nice to the animal or he… ”

“Don’t talk too much with Jiraya or spend too much time with him for that matter. After all is common knowledge that stupidity is contagious.”

The girl started to giggle as she roused from the ground.

“If you pay attention to me and learn how to control the summoned animal maybe one day you will be able to call upon Manda(5).”

She shivered at the very thought.
“He doesn’t like me.”

“What do you mean he doesn’t like you?”

“He calls me stupid brat.”

“So? Tsunade calls you stupid brat too.”

“Yes but she doesn’t threaten that she will have me for lunch.”

Orochimaru started to laugh. “If he lets you ride on his back that means he tolerates you. After all Manda doesn’t like anybody. Now since I haven’t spent too much time with you this last month how about I treat you with dango?”

“Dango? Did you say dango?”

But before Orochimaru had a chance to open his mouth Anko was already running towards the village.


* Kakashi was not having a good day. First he had to run from Gai because the annoying boy had found another stupid way to show that he’s a grater ninja then Kakashi. He couldn’t understand what rock, paper, scissors had to do with proving yourself to be a good shinobi. Then he got a message from Yuki-sensei to meet with him and the rest of the team at a small café for sweets and natto(6).

He hated candies and he was absolutely sure that his sensei will have another one of his ‘you three must be one’ speeches. Really what did that man want from them? How could he even imagine that they could cooperate since they had totally different levels? Yes they where all chuunins but Kakashi was getting ready for the jounin exam. Rin the female of the team had average skills as for Obito he was a slacker. He couldn’t stand the boy. He was always breaking the rules he was loud mouth and he was wearing that stupid black and orange suit.

He heard a couple of giggles and a loud “Hello Kakashi-kun!” but decided to ignore them. He was used to this treatment especially from girls. He knew that he was handsome and the fact that he was a great ninja at such a young age only made the female population of Konoha want him more. Even his clothes were picked with good taste. He had a pair of blue shorts that matched his t-shirt with white sleeves. His muscular arms where mostly covered by gloves resembling the ones that the ANBU’s had. His outfit ended with a belt and a pair of brown shoulder straps. But the thing that drove the girls crazy was the mask that covered half his face. It was a mystery why he was wearing it and many people asked about it but he didn’t want to tell his reasons.

He reached the café and went inside. At a table he noticed his teacher and Rin. Yuki-sensei was still young even though he was a jounin and rumors had it that he will become Hokage very soon. He had blond hair and blue eyes. His teammate, Rin, had brown shoulder length hair and dark brown eyes. She, like almost every young girl in Konoha, had a crush on him. Of course Obito wasn’t there yet. Suddenly the girl spotted him and started to wave her hand with enthusiasm.

“Kakashi-kun!!!” He rolled his eyes at the girl’s reaction and took a sit near his sensei.

“Chezz Rin why don’t you speak louder? I don’t think they heard you all the way to Grass village.”

The girl stuck her tong out in a childishly way. A waiter came to take their order. Rin and Yuki-sensei ordered dangos and hot chocolate and as for Kakashi he just got a cup of green tea. After ten minutes Obito entered the café trying to catch his breath. He had spiky black hair and black eyes that were covered by a pair of goggles.

“Sorry for being late guys but I ran in this little old lady and she…”

“Oh please. This is the third time you used that excuse. At least try and find something original.”

Rin started to giggle as Yuki sighted. Everytime it was the same thing. Kakashi would make fun of his teammate, the boy would lose his temper and an endless fight would begin. Obito took of his goggles and started to glare at Kakashi.

“Teme! What are you saying? That I’m lying? ”

“Yes. And stop shouting and pointing. You shouldn’t let anger get the best of you.”

“I can shout and point as I like. And how the hell do you want me to stay calm when you’re calling me a liar?”

“Do you know ‘shinobi rule 26’? It says ‘a shinobi must never show his emotions’. How about you take the rules book and read it from time to time. Or is it too much to ask from the elite Uchiha who just happens to be a coward and a cry baby?”

“You son of a…”

“Obito!” Rin almost jumped out of her seat.

“Don’t talk to Kakashi-kun that way!”

“But… but Rin-chan.”

“Enough! Obito please sit down, your making a scene. Rin next time you want to stop the fight try to be diplomatic. Kakashi we didn’t come here to pick fights with one another.”

All three teens stopped and look at their sensei. Then they started to stare at the ground with guilt in their eyes. It was incredible how Yuki could always stop the fight and make his students be ashamed of their attitude. Obito took the seat next to Kakashi and gave his order. They sat there in an awkward silence until Rin decided to try and make a conversation.

“Why did you call us here sensei?”

But Yuki didn’t answer as he was now focusing his attention at the door. Orochimaru just entered the café looking over his shoulder as though he was expecting someone to be behind him. He noticed the blond man and a smirk appeared on his face as he made his way towards their table.

“Yuki-kun. How nice to see you. Having fun with your team? I suppose that Jiraya’s behavior rubbed on you. After all, his favorite quote was ‘Work never killed anyone but why risk?’ ”

The young man roused from his chair to shake Orochimaru’s hand. He tried his best to smile.

“It’s nice to see you too, Orochimaru-sama. I heard that you were gone on quite some troublesome missions. I’m glad to see that you’re all right. And we weren’t taking it easy. I was just about to give my team the instructions for the next mission.”

The man razed an eyebrow.

“Over dango and tea? Well I suppose that everyone has their way.”

“You cheated!” Anko was now standing near her sensei with a frown on her face.

“Now, now Anko. I got here before you and I didn’t cheat. Don’t blame me for the fact that you’re slow.”

“I’m not slow! You popped here! Don’t deny it!”

“If I buy you extra dango will you drop it?”

The girl put a finger on her chin and started to think. After a few moments a grin appeared on her face.

“Ok.”

“Then Yuki-kun do you mind joining me? I have something to tell you about my last mission.”

“Not at all Orochimaru-sama.” With that they made their way to the counter.

“Hy! My name’s Rin. What’s yours? ”

Anko turned her attention to the persons sitting at the table.

“Mitarashi Anko.” She watched Rin with interest. “You’re a medic nin right?”

The girl blinked in surprise and noded her head.

“How did you know?”

“Well your chakra float is constant meaning that you have a good control over it. This ability is usually found in medic nins. Also you’re the only girl from the group and its common knowledge that females are more qualified for this job than man.”

Obito and Rin were now looking with surprised looks at the girl.

“How old are you?” Kakashi was resting his chin in his hands eyeing Anko.

“12. I’m a genin.”

“If you’re a genin why don’t you wear your forehead protector? Don’t you know the shinobi rule # 6?”

Obito rolled his eyes.

“We aren’t all obsessed with rules like you are.”

Anko stared at Kakashi for a few seconds. Normally when you graduate from the academy you’re given the forehead protector but she never graduated. Actually she never went to the academy in the first place. As long as she could remember she was under Orochimaru-sensei tutorial. Last year she was given a test that consisted of surviving for two weeks in the 44th training. Since she made it alive and with few injuries she was made genin. She never had teammates and she never went on a mission before.

“Look what you did you asshole! You’ve scared her! Don’t mind him Anko-chan. By the way my name is Uchiha Obito.”

“You’re an Uchiha?” a delighted smile appeared on her face. “That means that you can use the sharingan. I have some question to ask you if you don’t mind.”

“Don’t bother asking him about this. He can’t use his sharingan. He’s a disgrace to his clan.”

“You!” Obito jumped from his chair “What the fuck it’s your problem?”

“You don’t have to tell me who you are.” Rin and Obito were now looking at Anko who was pointing at Kakashi.

“Silver hair, black eyes, and the sword that you’re carrying. You’re the sun of the traitor White fang.”

Kakashi roused from his sit sending Anko a death glare.

“Shut up!” He spat laying his weight in his hands. A small smirk appeared on the girl’s face.

“Does the truth hurt?”

“I’m warning you. I don’t usually attack kids and girls but if you continue I’m going to make an exception.”

Anko leaned on the table so that she was now inches from Kakashi’s face.

“Now what was that old saying? A…yes, now I remember. Dogs that bark rarely bite. Don’t you agree inu-chan(7)? ”

It took all the strength of Obito and Rin to stop Kakashi from strangling the girl.

“Calm down in…Kakashi or did you forget about shinobi rule 26?”

The silver headed boy stopped struggling and turned to glare at his teammate. Obito smiled sheepishly and scratch the back of his head. Boy was payback sweet or what?

“Causing trouble again Anko?”

Orochimaru was now standing near the table holding a couple of bags. The girl gave an innocent smile.

“We were just having a friendly conversation sensei.”

Yuki was staring at his student with a surprised look. Kakashi was glaring at Anko. Actually the man saw him only once with this look on his face. He and Obito were having one of their usually spares when the brunet went over bored and said something bad about Kakashi’s parents. He was hospitalized for two weeks because his teammate didn’t found the comment funny and broke his left arm and would have done a lot more damage if his sensei didn’t show up.

“I think we should go Anko. Don’t forget what we talked about Yuki-kun. Goodbye.”

Anko followed her sensei out of the café. She turned around when she reached the door and started waving at the persons from the table.

“Bye Yuki-sama! Bye Rin-chan! Bye Obito-kun, and don’t worry I think your going to get the sharingan soon. Oh and I almost forgot. Bye inu-chan!” with that she left.

Some little birds were now flying near the café shop. They landed gracefully and started looking for food. But they immediately flied away when a couple of very colorful and loud swears where heard from inside as a young boy trying his best to escape the death grip of his sensei and teammates.

* Anko was now a happy person. After all the dango she had managed to eat she had just broke her personal record. She was currently drinking her orange juice as Orochimaru was sipping his green tea.

“I was listening to the conversation you had with the Hatake kid. Where did you find out about White fang? ”

“From the records that Sarutobi-sama keeps from all the failed missions.”

“And how did you get your hands on that? That’s top secret information. I don’t think that my sensei would just leave it on a shelf for everyone to see.” At this Anko grinned.

“I have my ways. I’m good on gathering information.”

“What do you say if I teach you a new technique after we’ve finished here?”

“I say I’ve finished, lets go.”

They roused from the bench and started to walk towards the training grounds. Suddenly a shinobi appeared in front of them.

“I’m sorry to bother you Orochimaru-sama but Hokage-sama has called for you. There’s a very important mission that you have to carry right away.”

“Tell the old geezer to send Jiraya. I’ve just returned from an S-class mission and I have no intention on leaving Konoha for a while.”

“But Orochimaru-sama the Hokage asked especially for you.”

The man was now very annoyed. That old man had overworked him from the past one month. He had a lot of things to do and experiments to research on. He turned his attention to his student.

“I’m sorry Anko but I have to go. Promise I’ll teach you a grate technique after I get back.”

The girl smiled a little trying to hide the disappointment of not being able to pass too much time with her teacher. Orochimaru sprinted from the ground and started to make his way towards the Hokage tower. ‘This better be a good mission you old geezer. It may after all be your last one given.’ A devilish smile appeared on his face as horrible plans where now forming in his mind.
