Giving In
It was a late afternoon in Konoha, were amongst its people, a few were still hard at work, training.
The sound of metal clashing and skin hitting skin was heard as two teammates
trained hard, trying to out do the other. The dark haired boy smirked as they
finally hit the soft grassy ground and decided it was enough for that day.
Sasuke panted aloud as he curled his legs up to his chest, bringing his pale arms
around his legs. He looked over at the blond idiot next to him who lied on the
ground grinning, eyes closed. His jacket had been taken off before they had
started off on their session of training that day.
"Ah, Sasuke, that was a good one." He said, smiling genuinely at his moody
friend and rival.
"Hm."
It was odd to see how things almost were the same around Naruto. The blond
brought his hand forward as he decided to sit up and look over at Uchiha Sasuke.
The onyx eyes had not been looking back at him, though to Naruto, he didn't mind
sneaking a look of the pale skinned boy. Though, little to his knowledge, he
hadn't been sneaking. The other had seen him turning to look at him and had no
intention of being caught 'checking' the blue eyed teen out.
Despite the time Sasuke spent training under the Snake Sannin, Naruto could still match his strength. The first time they saw each other after his leave of Konoha, the Uchiha knew the Kyuubi vessel had gotten much stronger. Though he was not sure how he had managed to become so strong in so little time, he was not going to bother in asking the wannabe Hokage. His ability to learn new jutsus in a short period of time was phenomenal, despite the fact that Naruto didn't have the Sharingan to help him. The brooding teen had been shocked to see the blond so soon after the first time and how little time it had taken to learn a new jutsu. He had been dragged back to Konoha, yet at that time he had been intrigued as to how he had learnt so fast.
They had fought once more, and Sasuke had ended up being brought back to Konoha.
In the end, he had decided to stay. It had somehow crossed his mind that the Snake Sannin was not teaching him many new things. As for Naruto, he discovered that their rivalry did propel them both forward. But sometimes the idiot wouldn’t take anything seriously.
He hadn't been surprised about being escorted all around the village by ANBU, being that he had been missing and that whatever Orochimaru had said or done could have been a trap. At first, he had been escorted by a good number of ANBU. But as
time elapsed, the Hokage had taken released a few of his watchers.
"I'm hungry." Naruto whined.
The blond lied on the ground, holding on to his growling stomach. After a moment, he stood and stretched out his arms, arching his back languidly. Sasuke watched him stretch, noting his shirt rise just over his navel and revealing his tanned skin and fading seal. The dark haired nin nodded. He too was hungry, but his hunger wasn't the same. He stood and brushed his self off, starting to walk ahead with Naruto following. The Anbu that looked over Sasuke proceeded to do the same and trailed after the two shinobi.
Naruto glanced over at his friend as they sat at Ichiraku's. He didn't even take the time to chew his food before it disappeared down his throat. He went through bowl after bowl, swallowing his food whole. Sasuke never doubted it would change, but he had noticed how much more responsible the boy had grown. It had shocked him how much he had changed over the years they had been together. Three years after he had been brought back to the hidden village, and now Naruto was helping the Hokage at the tower, filling papers out and filing them when he wasn't out training with Sasuke or out on missions with his other team mates.
They finished their meal with Naruto paying for the both of them. This had been going on for a few months now. Though Sasuke had protested he had more than enough money to pay for himself, Naruto insisted to pay back the debt he had gotten each time he had asked Sasuke to pay for his ramen in the past. Though by his calculations, he had long exceeded the debt.
Naruto had felt eyes on him the entire time they had eaten and had figured long
ago that Sasuke was the one looking at him. He smiled.
"Boy, Sasuke. What's with all the staring? It hasn't stopped all day... Is there something you want to tell me?" He asked tauntingly.
He himself had harbored feelings deeper then friendship for the stoic teen. He
knew what it was. He wasn't stupid, but he wasn't outright going to admit to
Sasuke that he felt for him that way. In some way it was like a challenge. And
neither of them backed down from challenges. It wasn't in them to do so.
Sasuke smirked. He knew Naruto felt the same about him, but neither of them ever
gave up. They wanted to see who would give in and say it.
"Seems to me your shirts are gradually getting shorter. Any reason, Dobe?" He knew he was no longer a dead last. However at this point, it was like a pet name. A mark of affection for the boy. Naruto didn't protest it much either.
Naruto blushed lightly. He noticed? he thought alarmed.
"They shrank in the wash!" He blurted out as an excuse, knowing it wasn't true. He had been getting shorter shirts to attract the other in hopes to make him give in.
Sasuke let out a pleased “Hm," looking the blond over again. He wouldn't admit to checking the other out yet, but he didn't think to make it last too much longer. How stupid could he be? They both knew they liked each other but never admitted to it... Though actions speak louder than words.
Naruto shivered, feeling as though something would happen. He looked over at
Sasuke, who in turn looked back into the bright blue eyes. Something was brewing
in his head and Naruto knew it. He wasn't sure what it was, but had a feeling it
would happen soon. .
