Chapter One:
Pain of The Highest Intensity – Itami no za Saikou Kyoudo
Blood. The cool, maroon colored liquid with the taste of copper that sustained life. This vital substance to the human body was now covering the walls, floors, ceilings and even the four dead bodies that lay across the center of the Tosai household.
Standing in the doorway, was a boy, about the age of fifteen. His lilac orbs were wide open, pupils shaking lightly with fear, and disgust that would have made anyone throw up, even without seeing the scene. His right arm was pinned to the handle of the door, which was only about half open. His skin was a bit white, whiter then it should have been for him to be called healthy. Strands of loose black hair were in a small twirl in front of his eyes as his body began to shake.
Slowly, his legs gave way as he fell to his knee’s, which made a small splashing sound as the hit a pool of blood, which jumped up, staining his equally purple colored shirt. Crystal tears began to roll down his face slowly as his eye were glued on the dismembered and sliced bodies of his family members which lay right in front of him, no cover or proper burial of any sort seemed to be happening for some time now.
Without warning, Hikari simply broke down, tears rolling faster as he screamed out in sadness. His hands slammed to the ground, actually, into another section that was bloodstained as he tried to hold himself up, his body shaking from the extensive crying.
Thoughts of past events floated into the boys head; times of joy, times of sadness. The strength of the emotions felt stronger then they ever had before. Even a simply chuckle he had shared with his sisters and brothers now felt like a full hearted laugh that made him cry. But nothing would be able to compensate for the pain and suffering he felt at the moment. No good feeling would ever be able to overpower this hollow, empty ripple that surged in his heart. Nothing could heal this.
Without any sign, Hikari jumped up and dashed out of the house, bare feet patting lightly against the ground. His head was hung low, the large midnight mass of hair blocking his eyes so no one could see that they were closed, cool tears still leaking through them. He didn’t care where he went. He didn’t care how he got there, or if he simply dropped dead at this moment. Who would miss him? Who would care?
Not very far away, just around the corner, a tanned skinned chuunin hummed lightly, his steps lively and energetic. A small smile graced his face, his hair moving in rhythm with his body. In his hands he held a group of groceries, ready to make him a good dinner. He licked his lips lightly, thinking about the smells that would fill his apartment. He just couldn’t wait.
A soft sigh escaped Iruka’s lips as he rounded the corner, dirt crunching under his feet lightly as he turned. He was about to reach for his keys, since he was about four houses away from the apartment, but the collision with a bdoy caused him to stumble backwards.
“Oh…I’m sorry.” Iruka said kindly as he opened his Copper colored eyes, glistening with concern for the fellow Konoha Shinobi. He blinked again, as gears behind his eyes turned and locked in place. Where had he seen him before? Was he a student of his?
Hikari stumbled backwards, falling to the ground. His body hit the dirt as he stared up at Iruka, eyes filled with concern and fear. Though he had seen Iruka-sensei constantly throughout the village, for some reason, at this exact moment, with the past events, he just, felt so vulnerable. He opened his mouth very lightly, as if to speak, but couldn’t.
Iruka’s eyes blinked for a moment as he opened his mouth, sounds coming out. “Hikari-kun?” He asked as his eyes glazed over the boy, noticing the blood on his hands, shirt and knees. His eyes grew wide for a moment as he fell to his own knee’s, dropping the food.
“What happened, Hikari?” Iruka asked, his voice serious, but at the same time, caring. His hands grasped the teens shoulders as the brown eyes met purple.
Hikari jumped lightly to the touch, but wasn’t able to move, like he had been stuck by a paralysis jutsu. A few seconds passed before the teen made a sound.
“T…they…” He stuttered out, eyes flickering with fear. Small crystals of tears began to form at the corners of his eyes.
“They what?” Iruka asked. “What happened?” He repeated, his eyes shaking a bit with worry. What could make Hikari like this? He was never ike this when he was as student. He was always a kind hearted, strong willed Shinobi…what could have happened?
Hikari’s breathing started to hitch a bit as his body began to shake a bit more. Within the blink of an eye, Hikari had his face buried in Iruka’s chest. “Their dead!” He yelled, his body shaking harder as tears rolled down his face faster and faster.
Iruka was taken aback slightly by the strong amount of emotion that radiated from the chuunin. A short pause filled the air as the words echoed in his head.
“Dead?” Iruka thought. “Who? His family?” Iruka thought again as he quickly wrapped his arms around the boy. Seconds passed as he simply hugged Hikari, not knowing exactly what to say, or do.
When the seconds turned into about a minute and a half, Iruka finally responded by taking in a deep, shaky breath. He closed his eyes for a moment, taking in all the information.
“We need to get to Hokage-sama.” He said sternly. “She will know what to do.” He said as he looked at Hikari, who was clinging to his shirt like a scared little child. His hands were shaking slightly, as if Iruka left him, he would turn into nothingness. His body was still racked with tears, which were now slightly muffled.
“Hey.” Iruka said as he squatted down and took Hikari’s chin, forcing the boy to open his mauve eyes to look at tan. “It’ll be ok.” He said. “I promise.” He said reassuringly as he stood up again and stuck out his hand for the boy, who slowly took in and began to walk towards the Hokage building.
---
Four sandals slapped against the wooden floor of the Hokage’s hallways as the two chuunin made their way to Tsunade –sama’s office room. Hikari’s head was hung down low, his crying had stopped about a minute or so ago, but his body was still shaking. Would he ever get over the emptiness that was inside?
Iruka looked forward, and back to Hikari every few seconds, worry lacing his face as he looked up again, noticing they were close to the Hokage’s room. What was he to tell her? How could he explain the way that Hikari ended up like this?
The two continued to walk in silence, like they had been doing for the whole walk. The only sound you could hear was the sandals, and the breathing that was constantly leaving their mouths and coming in.
Within two minutes, Iruka and Hikari reached the Hokage’s office; a door with a scroll attached to it that read “Do not enter, unless important!” in red letters. Iruka’s eyes scanned the message and let out a sigh as he turned his gaze to Hikari.
“It will be ok.” He said again as he couldn’t see Hikari’s eyes, but could tell that he was deeply saddened. Hikari nodded a bit, but it didn’t look convincing.
Once again, Iruka let out a sigh as he wrapped his fingers around the cold knob and pushed it open, the door creaking lightly as they walked into the room that was lit by a large window behind the blonde haired sanin.
Tsunade’s head snapped up, her brown eyes looked as if she was about to flare up in anger at the two. But, as she noticed the state that both Iruka, and the younger Shinobi seemed to be in, her facial expression showed that she decided against it.
“What seems to be the problem?” She simply said as she looked once more at the two.
Iruka’s eyes couldn’t help but fall back on Hikari as he opened his mouth about to speak, but Hikari beat him to it.
“Pl…please…forgives me….Ho….kage….sama….” He said quietly, the sound of his voice evident that he was truly upset. Slowly, he followed it up with a bow, returning to his normal position; strands of black hair still guarding his eyes.
The Hokage blinked for a moment as if taken aback, but then nodded. “Any Shinobi of my village has the right to come in and speak with their Hokage.” She said. “But as I am sure you saw, the sign read, “Only if it is important.” She stated. “I hope this is important.”
Iruka nodded firmly. “It is Hokage-sama.” He said as he looked once more to Hikari before back to Tsunade.
“Have you ever met, with any members of the Tosai family?” Iruka asked kindly. He knew what he had to do, and what had to be done, but he would break this as smoothly as he could; not for Tsunade’s sake, but for Hikari’s.
Tsunade paused for a moment before responding. “I have.” She said with a nod. “They are the full family team, lead by Kisa Tosai.” She said. “Why did you ask?” She asked back, eyebrow raised slightly for a moment. “Is he one of them?” She asked, jerking her head to Hikari.
Iruka nodded. “Have you spoken with the jounin lately?” He asked as Hikari closed his eyes tightly, tears brimming at the edges.
Tsunade looked at the chuunin as she narrowed her eyes for a brief moment. “No.” She said. “I haven’t. Why?” She asked again, not even noticing that Hikari’s body was shaking ever so slightly. Crystal tears fell down his face as he continued to think about his family and how he would never be able to see them again…that their dead bodies and cold souls, which would never infest a body again.
Iurka glanced over to Hikari once again, wondering what to say or what to do. He sighed. ‘I’m sorry, Hikari.’ He thought as he opened his mouth. “The Tosai family…was assassinated.” He said. “This is Hikari Tosai, and if what he says is correct, then he is the last one alive.” He said as his eyes glistened with despair.
Tsunade didn’t even waste a moment. Quickly she stood and snapped her fingers, three ANBU members appearing next to her.
“The Tosai house. Now.” She simply said as the three ANBU members nodded and went out to the house. Hikari watched, the shadows moving quickly and swiftly across the roof tops.
Hikari closed his eyes again as he collapsed onto the floor, tears rolling faster and aster down his face. He just couldn’t take it anymore. Every time he closed his eyes, thoughts of his family and all his happy memories came into his mind. The thought that scared him the most, was that sooner or later…the memories would disappear.
Tsunade frowned as she walked over to him and put her hand on his shoulder. “It will be ok.” She said. “Everything will be ok.” She said kindly as Hikari continued to cry, his hands on the ground, his knee’s also on the ground. It took so much effort just to sit up, to stay conscious.
Who knew there was such a pain in the world.
