1

The whole Village had been infested with these dark ninja. Naruto had spent the last few weeks defending Konoha from it's enemies. He had reached his limit and his body began to become dificult to move. He pressed on, but he was clearly unable to seize control of his muscles the way a ninja should and with no chakra left, he could not use his shadow clone juitsu.

"Damn it, my body won't respond." Moaned Naruto, as drool mixe with blood around his mouth. He saw three ninja that were in front of him, but he knew there were more. He squinted in anguish as he continued to fight the lead that was sliding down from his chest into his feet. He was dead and he closed his eyes as if, consigned to his fate. 'Why had the ninjas not struck him down' He said as his mind began to spin. He forced his eyes open and smiled.

Sand had overtaken them all and left them incapable of movement as it seeped around them like snakes and squeezed them together. Inches from death. Gaara of the desert had this awful habit of showing up just when he needed to. As he looked over Naruto he frowned. He walked over to the boy and lifted him up. Naruto coughed.

"Sorry Gaara, I guess you were....right." as Naruto finished his sentence, he fainted. Gaara gently placed him on the ground and whispered something that a figure who had been following Naruto couldn't hear.

"You rest now, my heart rests with you." Said Gaara gently and then placed a kiss on the boy's forehead. Now the figured looked in shock and this and his feet nearly slipped off the tree branch he had managed to perch on for the last hour as Naruto had battled the mysterious dark ninja.

Gaara figured he'd better dispatch his enemies quickly. The sand had recognized that scent of blood when he had arrived and he had no understanding of how it was possible, but he knew that he was no match for this ninja on his own. As if lightning had struck him he took out all the enemy with speed this ninja could appriciate.

When Gaara stopped, he wondered about his next move, but he knew he couldn't get away having to carry Naruto around. He frowned to himself. 'I'd better just see if there's a way out of this' He thought a bit frightend. The sand screamed out for Gaara to get away, but he refused and angrily he bit out his words to the foe watching him and his "This"

"If you're here to fight, you best come out of the trees. Sasuke!" Gaara was still scared. Even as the black-haired boy responded to him quickly, he moved closer to Naruto so his sand could protect him.

"If you're here for Naruto, I can't let you come any closer." Sasuke's eyes snapped open in suprise at Gaara's stone face and then looked at Naruto. He sighed softly and held up his palm in indication that he intended no harm to either of them.

"I didn't come here to fight Naruto, I came to...well...I guess...see if I could...make it right between us.

As Gaara listened to his words he picked up Naruto in his arms and began to jump along the trees to the home that they shared for the last year. Sasuke followed. He wondered how long they had been in this relationship and if anyone in the village knew about it. He had many questions come to think of it. He knew though, that as many as he might think he had. The look on the Sand Ninja's face said he had just as many.

When they entered the small one room apartment. Gaara laid Naruto on the double bed and began to dress some of his wounds. "Naruto, you take too many risks." Garra whispered ans he opened the boy's jacket and removed his pants.

Sasuke laughed softly. "He's such an idiot sometimes" He whispered.
Gaara didn't even look up. "Don't say things about what you don't know Sauske." He has a big heart with many scars, it may get him into trouble, but he's saved more lives than you ever could." Gaara fumed.

Sasuke wanted to defend himself but dropped it. "You're right, I am very sorry." Gaara wasn't really in the mood for awkward movement in a tough and stupid conversation tonight. Naruto and he had run themselves ragged protecting the village since the Hokage had left for a peace offering meeting with the village of the sound ninja. Ever since, they had been under continuous attack for the last six days.

"Look, I'm in no mood for guessing games. Why are you here Sasuke? Why shouldn't I have you imprisoned?" Gaara snapped very harshly in the same whisper he'd been using since they met in the forest on the outer part of the village.

"I am still too weak to fight Itachi and I didn't want to face him yet, but I didn't know where else to go to bide my time. Coming to Naruto seemed like the best option, he's been my friend and I knew I could count on him. Even if he couldn't count on me." Sasuke had to force the last part out. It hurt him so bad to remember how close he was to ending Naruto's life.

Gaara thought this over. "Naruto would no doubt help you." Gaara turned a single eye to Sasuke and frowned angrily. "That doesn't mean I'll let him." Sasuke's face streched in suprise.

"You don't know how much he hurts over you." Gaara ground his fingers into his hands. "How many times he calls out to you in his nightmares. How many damned times he wakes up in tears because he blames himself for you leaving." Sauske could see the small tears in this Sand ninja's eyes. His head dropped in shame.

"It got even worse when Neji died." As the words left his lips he had wished they would punch Sasuke in the face. They only severed to make his head snap up in suprise.

"When?" Was all he could ask. "A year and a half ago." Gaara gritted his teeth. "By a beast that bore the same mark as you. That destroyed Naruto for quite awhile. He was convinced that you and he would end up killing eachother in a battle." Gaara ran his hand down his love's chest and whispered words Sauske couldn't hear.

"You may speak to him when he wakes up." Gaara said simply. "If he is too upset, I will make you leave." Sasuke nodded, but there was something he wanted to know and he blushed as he asked. "Is he your, "This?"" He blushed harder. Gaara didn't blink.

"Yes." The sand demon said softly. "Though, more by accident than on purpose. After his battle with me during the Sand Village attack on Konoha, he opened up a place in my dead heart I didn't know I had. You see, when I was very young all that ever happened to me was death. As a result my heart became shrivled and dead and I made my self unable to feel pain. Though my heart feels almost nothing for this world or it's people. It feels for him. Eventually when he needed someone after Neji's death, I volunteered myself. We just grew close and eventually it was more."

Sasuke absorbed all of what Gaara said and seemed unsuprised that this might happen. "Does the village know?" He asked plainly. "JUst Sakura and Ino." Gaara replied now tucking in Naruto. He didn't sleep too often, he sometimes wondered if Naruto was lonely in that big bed at night.

Sasuke would wait till morning when his fates would be decided by Naruto, the idot boy, the demon, His best friend. "I see." He replied to no one. He waited so often in his life that this was not new and he began to Meditate and think of all the strange things that he would have to explain to a curious hyperactive blonde. He smiled.
