In Darkness Revealed-Prologue
In looking back, it hadn't been that hard for him to finally break. All it had taken was years of hatred and disgust, a chidori to the chest, a broken friendship, and a broken heart.
Eventually, he hadn't been able to take it any more, that tree bending and bending until it finally snapped under the pressure and shattered completly. No, he hadn't hurt anybody, well, hadn't killed anybody, on his escape from Konoha, he wasn't that far gone, he still loved his village. He simply could no longer live there.
He ran and ran and ran, far from the forests of his home, Kyuubi whispering within his mind, running towards the only one he knew would understand him. Gaara... Shukaku... The tanuki sand nin with bloody hands and bloody hair, the only other he knew of who knew what it was like for another being to live within your soul.
Reaching Gaara hadn't been hard, the scent of Shukaku a beacon for the fox demon within him, a blinding, brilliant path towards safety. No, reaching him hadn't been hard, and suprisingly, neither had convincing the kazekage to join him. In fact, Gaara had been on the verge of his breaking point too. Naruto was glad he had at least saved him that.
So they had left both their villages behind, nuke-nins who had no need to fear anything, their demons being more than enough protection. Until they had met them... On a cold, rainy day, they had seen the red clouds upon a black cloak, warning bells going off in both their brains as they met the one with swirling black on red eyes and the blue sword wielding shark-like nin. Suprisingly, the two, instead of instantly attacking, laid down a proposition for the two jinchuuriki. Join the Akakatsuki and keep their demons, or run and possibly lose them and die.
With nothing else to loose, the red head and the blonde agreed, but only on certain conditions. Neither would go against their villages in any way and the two would not be seperated from each other. Itachi and Kisame had agreed to these terms and the two had been swept away to the Akatsuki hideout.
In looking back, Naruto was glad he had broken. Deep in one of Akatsuki's many lairs, he laid back into strong, pale arms and felt long nails run through his long, shaggy blond hair, pulling off his scarred headband. He felt another person lay their head in his lap upon the cloak he wore and he gently caressed the unmarked side of Gaara's face before turning his head slightly to recieve a kiss from a man that looked almost identical to his first love.
Even Kyuubi was happy with his choice, being allowed to come out and feast on blood occasionally. If he hadn't have broken, he would be in Konoha still, or trying to get Sasuke back instead of laying with his beloveds. Yes, Naruto was glad he had broken and fallen into the darkness. It sometimes took being broken and fixed to become stronger, and only the darkness can reveal our true selves.
