“I can’t right now, I need to train!” Naruto protested, panting heavily due to the extensive training and development of a new jutsu called “Wind Needles”. He was millimeters away from finally perfecting the technique when Sakura and Sai landed next to him, effectively throwing off his game (and causing the two of them catching enough concentrated wind chakra to sting smartly).
“Naruto, this order has an urgency seal on it. You must come back to the village and see the Hokage immediately!” Sakura said while rubbing the pain out her exposed skin with one hand and holding the order up in the other.
Sai had been too busy admiring the view up until this point to help Sakura in her persuasion. All Naruto’s efforts in this training area rearranged the landscape. Trees were obliterated and the earth was churned up everywhere like someone came through with a giant rot-o-tiller.
“It’s about Sasuke…” Sai stated calmly. Sakura started at the obviously lie for a moment before catching on and playing along.
“They have information on his whereabouts.” Kakashi cocked an eyebrow at Sakura though, thanks to the mask, she’d never know it. Yamato, being out of the loop and new to the group, had no idea what to believe.
Exposed bronze shoulder muscles tensed underneath glistening skin at the words. Naruto bare chest felt as if it would explode at the mere mention of that name. Sighing, he turned to the four.
“You might have to carry me.” Blue eyes flashed a warning to his team mates earning a “Why?” before he release the kage bushin he had been training with and collapsed.
Sai hefted the unconscious Naruto onto his shoulder and nodded at Yamato and Kakashi before they all took off towards the Hokage tower.
Little did they know how right they had been.

“Hey brat! Why are you always passed out when I need you?” Tsunade asked as a glowing green hand was passed over Naruto’s forehead.
“Tha-s not true baa-chan. Stop da lies,” Naruto mumbled, slowly returning to consciousness. His mind asked the usual questions people asked when waking up in an unfamiliar place. Who, what, where, how and when were the words passing through his mind before the memory of his last conversation flooded in.
“Sasuke!” he exclaimed shooting up from is position lying down. The rush of blood into other body parts left him light headed and he grasped his head, regretting the movement.
“Yeah, this is about Sasuke. Follow me brat.”
Sakura’s eyes looked fit to bulge out of her head at the news as Kakashi froze in shock, dropping his dirty book on the floor.
“Hold on I’m co-”Sakura was cut off in her attempt to follow the two blondes out the door.
“Just Naruto.” Tsunade glared at the four attempting to follow, finally giving hint of the seriousness of the situation.
“What’s going on baa-chan? Tell me about Sasuke!” Naruto shouted as the others fell back and abandoned their pursuit. He was disturbed by this solemn behavior. The only time he had ever see her like this before what when she had battled with Orochimaru. Sure, she tried to act serious since then on some occasions (when she was giving Naruto his missions), but most of the time she was either cranky, moody, annoyed or playful (on a really good day). This silence however… this was like the calm before the storm.
Their pace was quick as they descended step after step. Naruto had no idea where they were going, having never been in this particular part of the tower. He didn’t ever have to, this was the dungeon. Tsunade stopped in front of a large stone door most people would have recognized as a simple indention in the wall and would have walked right by. Looking at the boy next to her, she found herself lost for the right words to say and simply handed him a key and pointed to a small hole in the wall.
“Surge chakra through the key as you turn it or you will die.”
“Gee, thanks for the warning,” Naruto grumbled as he inserted the key into the hole. Sweating nervously, he began channeling a tremendous amount of his own chakra through his fingers. Tsunade began making hand signs at his side while he slowly began to turn the key. He winced at the amount of pain coursing through the chakra routes in his fingers as Tsunade flew through her signs. 20... 30... 40... 50. The chakra that Naruto was surging through the key was creating intricate patterns on the door, revealing a seal that had been placed there very recently. With a loud cry, Tsunade slammed her palm into the seal, releasing the jutsu and causing the door to fly open.
The first thing he could feel was chakra. HIS chakra. As his eyes slowly adjusted, they found ANBU guarding a single cell and familiar obsidian eyes locked on his.
“I came back, dobe.”
Naruto for once was completely speechless. It seemed the ground was swaying under his stance the way the shock hit him He tried to speak; to make any sound or notion. He couldn’t. Every time he opened his mouth, his voice would either crack or no sound would come out at all. Making a gesture that he wanted to go into the cell, the Hokage nodded and six ANBU stepped forward to remove the seals on the front of the cell. Earth, wind, water, fire and thunder chakras had to be channeled in while a sixth ANBU released 5 locks with a chakra shaped mercury key.
Naruto moved forward on unsteady feet towards Sasuke, not able to take his eyes off the boy. He had to touch him. He had to make sure that the boy in front of him was real. A pale hand covered the bronze hand that was reaching out to caress a luminous cheek. Pulling him forward, Sasuke did the unexpected. ANBU readied their weapons as Sasuke embraced the shocked boy, brushing lips against his cheek.
“I always meant to come back.”
Naruto began to weep in his arms.
