Three's Company
--
Sakura moved restlessly against Sasuke’s thigh and pulled him closer. It was going to happen this time, she was sure of it.
She only got a bit of resistance as he drew down beside her, not directly on top of her like she’d wanted, but the way he cupped an arm around her head and breathed hotly into her ear made up for that.
His skin was warm and flushed and she grabbed hold of as much of it as possible as she tilted her hips upwards. There was an awkward moment where their knees bumped and Sakura had to maneuver a bit to get Sasuke in the right position. He knelt between her spread thighs and rested his hands softly on her hips, cradling them, as something warm and solid nudged at her entrance.
This was it. They were finally going to do this. She gave him an encouraging smile and closed her eyes and he pushed into her with a sigh and…
She flinched. She couldn’t help it. It hurt in some way that weeks of practice with her own fingers couldn’t remedy.
‘Damn it, damn it. Maybe he didn’t notice…’
His weight left her immediately and she opened her eyes to his scowling face.
“This was a bad idea,” he muttered, now standing up from the bed and pulling his pants back on with jerky, frustrated movements.
“Sasuke, get back here,” she ordered, her own scowl rivaling his. “You weren’t hurting me, I told you that before—
And now his shirt was on and his pants zipped as he made his way towards the bedroom door. She considered throwing a candle at him.
“You think I can’t tell when you’re in pain?” he said, voice cold and clipped as he opened the door. “We’re not going through this again, Sakura. You don’t have to pretend for me.”
And then he was gone. She stared at the empty doorway, arms crossed over her naked chest and knees drawn up to her stomach, eyes widened in disbelief.
“You…you idiot!” she called after him, knowing he wouldn’t have lingered long enough outside the door to hear it. Then she collapsed back on the bed and rubbed the tears off her cheeks with the rapidly cooling sheets.
--
“So,” Ino mumbled around a bit of dango, “what’s the problem now? Don’t tell me you guys are having marital problems already. You just got hitched two weeks ago.”
Sakura sighed and poked absently at the contents of her bowl.
“You can’t officially call it a marriage when you haven’t consummated it yet, right?” she commented, pointing a chopstick in Ino’s direction.
The blonde’s eyes widened comically and she leaned forward.
“Wha—really? You haven’t thrown him down and ripped his pants off yet? I don’t believe this; you finally bag the guy and you don’t even have the decency to fuck him and share the details with your best friend!”
“Shut up, Ino-pig.”
“I’m disappointed in you, Forehead-girl. I’d have thought you’d at least be pregnant by now and then we could go shopping for maternity clothes.”
“Look,” Sakura said, trying to dampen her blush, “it’s not like we haven’t tried. It’s just that I’m…well…you know…”
“Frigid?” Ino settled her cheek in her hand and smiled. “Asexual? Really a man?”
“Ino-pig-chan.”
She couldn’t kill her. It would ruin the balance of Shikamaru’s team. But really, it was tempting.
“I’m a virgin,” Sakura bit out between clenched teeth.
Ino shrugged, turning back to her food.
“So?” she said, chewing happily. “Guys like that sort of thing, last I heard.”
Sakura rubbed a hand across her tired face, pressing a palm down on her left eye where a headache threatened.
“Yeah, well Sasuke doesn’t,” she muttered. “He keeps thinking he’s hurting me.”
“Well, is he?”
“No! Well…yes—” She looked up at Ino sheepishly. “—it does hurt, at first. He’s not exactly small. But it’s not that bad and it’s normal for it to hurt the first time. He just won’t believe me when I tell him its okay. He thinks I’m…I don’t know…being brave for him or something ridiculous like that.”
Ino considered this thoughtfully, her lips busy sucking the sauce left on her chopsticks from her last dumpling. Sakura waited, fingers tapping against the counter top.
“Well,” the blonde said finally, “as I see it, you have three options. One is to get drunk enough that you won’t feel anything when he pops your cherry.”
Sakura scowled. “That’s no good. I want to be able to feel my first time with Sasuke. All of it.”
“Option two,” Ino went on, “you could get him drunk enough that he won’t notice you tensing up.”
“Do you know how much alcohol that would take? Sasuke notices everything. He’d have to be so drunk he wouldn’t even remember what we did in the morning.”
“Yeah,” Ino snickered, “and he most likely wouldn’t be able to get it up with that much alcohol in his system either.”
“Ino.”
“Sorry. I guess that leaves you with option number three.”
“Which is?”
Ino grinned. “Pop your cherry yourself. Use a cucumber or something.”
“Ino! I don’t want to lose my virginity to a vegetable,” Sakura cried in dismay, cheeks reddening at the leer on her friend’s face. “I want it to be Sasuke-kun.”
“Hey, I’m just giving you your options,” Ino said, spreading her hands. “You can take it or leave it. Are you going to eat that?”
Sakura pushed the remains of her meal towards Ino and glared at her as she began to dig into the sauce covered noodles and vegetables.
“You know,” she grumbled sourly, “you’re becoming more and more like Chouji every day.”
--
After seeing Ino home, Sakura lingered in the park for a bit, thinking that perhaps if she thought long enough a solution—other than the ones Ino suggested—would magically be transferred to her brain. Unfortunately, everything she thought of so far required impossibilities such as Sasuke being less observant than usual and less inclined to obsess over every little thing.
Or she could lose her virginity to a cucumber.
“This is ridiculous,” she muttered to herself, scuffing her feet against the gravel and leaning back on the bench only to find herself staring up at a pair of familiar blue eyes.
“What is? You’d better not be talking about my new haircut, Sakura-chan,” Naruto teased, leaning over to give her a quick hug, which she accepted with a smile.
“You’re back,” she said lamely, ruffling a hand through his hair, which was trimmed back into his usual spiky style instead of the longer, shaggy look he’d been sporting a few weeks ago at her wedding. “How was Suna?”
“Hot. And Dry. Like always; what’s wrong?” he asked, grin fading as he took in the tiredness of her expression
She evaded his eyes. Naruto hadn’t batted an eye when she’d announced her engagement to Sasuke. In fact, she’d rather thought he was partly responsible for Sasuke’s proposal, since she knew Sasuke hadn’t picked out that ring on his own. Still, talking about martial problems with Naruto seemed a bit like a slap in the face. Especially since it felt odd now, living with Sasuke and seeing him every day, but not Naruto.
It felt wrong in a way she hadn’t expected. This was her dream, so she should be happy, right?
“It’s nothing Naruto,” she said, at his look of worry. “I’m just tired. We’ve finally moved into the new apartment and I was putting boxes away all day and—”
“You lie Sakura-chan,” he said, looking vaguely offended. “I know you and Sasuke have a bond now that’s really…official and everything, and that’s great. You know I’m really happy for you both, right?”
Those last words were said rather anxiously, so Sakura thought she’d better nod. Naruto relaxed a little at that and went on.
“So yeah, you guys are together and have your own…secrets I guess. But I…” He looked down at his hands and his voice softened. “I guess I just want you to be able to tell me stuff that bothers you.”
“It’s stupid really,” she blurted, twisting her hands in her lap. “It’s just that we…”
“Sakura-chan?”
He looked so understanding that she really didn’t feel guilty about telling him the whole story. Embarrassment, however, was another matter. She felt like her face would never be rid of a blush at this rate.
To his credit, Naruto didn’t laugh or jeer at Sasuke “performance anxieties” and the like, although he did roll his eyes.
“That moron,” he said, shaking his head. “I know being in Sound messed him up, but I didn’t think it’d stunt him that much. At the very least I’d have expected him to get laid at least once while he was away from us.”
She blinked in confusion. “But…Naruto I’m the one who’s the virgin, remember?”
But he kept shaking his head. “Come on Sakura-chan, do you really think the bastard would be this uptight if he’d actually had sex before?”
Well no, she hadn’t thought of that, but it was suddenly making a lot of sense.
“What Sasuke needs,” Naruto said, snapping his fingers and grinning cheerfully, “is a supervisor! Someone he knows will smack him one if he does something wrong with you.”
“And of course you’ll volunteer,” Sakura said, rolling her eyes but smiling and relaxing as well. Naruto’s grin was infectious. She was glad he was back home.
He snapped to attention, giving her a mock salute. “Of course I will! I’m the perfect man for the job,” he said.
“But Sasuke will never agree to be watched, especially by you. He’s anxious enough as it is,” she protested.
Naruto’s eyebrows lowered into a sly leer and he bent close to her ear to whisper in it.
“Well then we’ll just have to be sneaky about it. Like ninja. Now here’s the plan…”
