What's Left of Us

He was not pleased. Not one bit. Sure, he had willing let them take him back, even let them capture him, and now, here he was, Uchiha Sasuke being dragged back. The word dragged being the understatement of the year. With his arms twisted high up behind his back till he could feel the familiar sting of his joints being unhinged, and the copious amounts of chakra binding seals placed on him, one partially blinding him, it was no wonder the Uchiha radiated the fury of a caged beast. His eyes darted from side to side, taking in as much of his surrounding, as his blurry vision would allow, he shook slightly, full animosity towards the fifteen ANBU walking around him. No, it was needless to say that his arrival in Konoha was not going to be pleasant.

His feet trudged against the ground, another way to take in his surrounding whilst nearly blind. He could feel the crunch of leaves now, something that until recently hadn’t been present. The ground emitted the smell of wet earth, and from the way, his feet would sink ever so slightly into the ground meant they were way past Kaze no Kuni and nearing Konoha. It was approaching twenty-one years since he last walked this path, so his ability to estimate how long the rest of the journey would take was almost non-existent. Yet, with each crunch of leaves and smell of forest, Sasuke knew it wouldn’t be too long till he was once again in the village hidden in the leaves.

A complaint would never leave his lips; Sasuke still had whatever was left of that infamous Uchiha dignity. Yet as they trudged on, he could feel the muscles in his shoulders ache. It was futile to try and relax his stiff muscles, what with his arms in such a precarious position, and making any sudden movements to try ad relieve the tension building up between his shoulder blades would surely result in a kunai to the throat. It had been made very clear to Sasuke that whether he returned alive no longer mattered to Konoha, simply his body would suffice. He ground his teeth at the thought, it meant trying to escape, if only to get his arms out of the restraints, would mean certain death.

Despite how much he hated, no, loathed to admit it, they did have the upper hand. Which meant Sasuke was helpless. Something he hated even more then his previous admission.

-------------

His arrival in Konoha had been quick, shoved in through the gate when no one was looking, and whisked to the Hokage’s office. Before being admitted into the building, much to Sasuke’s unapparent and well masked glee, he was released from his arm restrained and most of the seals, most importantly the one that impaired his vision, in favor of a much stronger one. Sasuke was then placed in a windowless room with a chair. A part of him prickled at the thought of waiting for the Hokage, but he squashed that notion and replaced that with testing his new seal.

As expected, activating the sharingan was useless and even caused his eyes to ache. Impressive considering the limited amount of time they had to place it on him, clearly though, it had been designed with him in mind. He could muster up some chakra, but his control of it was shot. Still, that meant with a little work, he could break the seal. Clearly, he was being underestimated. That brought a frown to his lips. There were far too many people in Konoha who even Sasuke had to admit were smart, this seemingly innocent folly was just too convenient. Did they plan to gage his skill with this? Or perhaps see if he had the initiative to escape? Or, was it just truly a lapse of judgment on Konoha’s part? It was too subtle to be a mistake, not mistaken seal, but rather one not strong enough. It was a well planned tactic, and somewhat of a challenge, one that years ago he would have scoffed at and risen to instantly. That Sasuke had been foolhardy. It would serve his purpose better to wait, possibly fool those around him into thinking he was either not strong enough of lacked the ingenuity to escape.

As a result, he sat, for what seemed like hours, and mostly certainly was, till the door was roughly pushed open and his upper arm grabbed with bruising force. He was tugged out of the cell and steered towards the Hokage’s office. Finally, Sasuke was tired of waiting. The sooner he could talk to the woman he could get on with his life. He had come across her, Tsunade, twice in his existence, both were rather unpleasant and although seeing her again was not on Sasuke’s top ten list of things he would rather be doing, it was still necessary.

Steeling himself and raising his chin, he was prepared to make eye contact with the blonde Hokage’s fiery green eyes, but as he entered the room, to his shock, obsidian met blue.
