~~~~~Icha Icha Paradise ~ Prologue~~~~~
At the end of the thousand year war, many things happened. Previous to the devastation, youkai, humans, vampires and tenshi worked together and lived together well. It was difficult to imagine that such a horrible war would be brought about by the clan that was seen to be the purest of them all.
The tenshi became greedy, seeing themselves as superior beings simply because they were seen as holy creatures. But the simple title is what drove them to the war. They believed themselves above all others, deciding then that they would take control. Of course, as all beings would, the other three clans rejected the idea and stood by themselves.
The humans, though greedy and arrogant, did not believe that there was need for a leader or a clan to lead them. They had seen fit to keep things as they were, believing that what they had now was the most precious thing they could have. Peace.
The Vampires were against the idea of having a leader that was not from their own clan the most. They rejected the idea, and absolutely loathed the idea that they, some of the most powerful beings should be lead by someone that was not one of them.
The youkai didn’t believe that the angels could think of something so preposterous. They were free and they liked it that way. They too saw no reason for a leader and they also saw no reason for changing their way of life.
However, they were not the one’s who had the choice. The tenshi soon declared war on all the clans, thus leading to the thousand year war.
The humans were the first to back out, knowing that it was very rare for any human to have the power to go against another being not of their own race. They were pushed far to the east, out of the way. Though they didn’t fight it, they are now happy that they were pushed back. The land that they managed to get a hold of was rich and was the reason they were able to have such an economic boom. Now, 100 years after the war ended, the humans were the most well endowed. They had most of the natural resources, including water, grain, lumber, and most of the mining industry. They made a huge prophet off of the exports and barley needed to import anything. 100 years later, the clan of the humans look to be the best off.
The humans quickly signed a treaty with the youkai, insuring cheap import and sales in turn for protection. The treaty was signed almost immediately, the demons knowing they would need help from their neighbor to survive. The leaders thinking of their people first.
The Humans soon chose a leader, a woman by the name of Tsunade taking up the position. Though an odd one, she was the best for the job as the humans could see. The woman lead them through many bad times only to come out on top of it all with a last minute back up plan and for that, the people revere her as a goddess.
The Vampires were pushed far to the west. The land they fought to take was not what they had expected it to be. From what they knew, the land was rich with good soil and a good long growing season. However, once they received the land, it lay barren and a wasteland from the war. The blood soaked battleground made a horrible place to grow any type of foliage. Forests were burned to the ground during the war, and all that was left was muddy earth, not even worthy to travel across. However, they had been severely wounded in strength and numbers during the war, and were unable to do anything about their predicament. 100 years later, they seem to be doing the poorest. A heavy miasma has made the land uninhabitable for those who are not born and raised in it.
The land came to a dictatorship, being ruled over by one known as Orochimaru. The man, though smart, only sees fit to further his own goals and cares nothing for the people. He feeds them enough to keep them alive and works them much harder than should be. Many die because they aren’t strong enough to survive the harsh climates and the harsh labor that Orochimaru was forcing them through. Secretly re-growing his army with only the strongest warriors. The man refused to sign a peace treaty with any other country, not believing that he needed help from anybody, thus leading to such a difficult recovery.
The tenshi were pushed far to the North. The land not very large and no major resources. They are able to export small things such as ore and nickel, however, the demand for these products are low seeing as there are some small reserves in the Human territory. They live off what they can, paying a high price for the natural resources from the human clan. The amount of land inhabited was very low, however every structure was rich and elegant, almost as if built for a king.
Poverty was high however and many were homeless. Not enough jobs for the economy and not nearly enough space to house as many as there were. The rich looked down upon the poor of even their own race, not bothering to lend a helping hand to their brothers. Because of this, people were either extremely poor, or extremely rich. Those who could not afford food, stole it from restaurants that charged three times the price that should be asked. They slept in the slums, sharing rooms with windows that have no glass and much hatred between each other.
A leader was chosen in hope of a democracy, but instead, they too got a dictatorship. The leader, known only as leader, employed few people, and all of them were highly skilled assassins. Two of the best going by the names of Uchiha Itachi and Kisame. These two brought fear to the country, ensuring that nobody defied their leader and that anything that got in his way was quickly disposed of.
The youkai, though they had very few resources, were going through a time of happiness. Poverty was almost unheard of in the land, and there was an unemployment rate of 0.1% compared to the extremely high 60% unemployment rate of the tenshi. Though there were still homeless, they were never homeless for long. youkai, knowing what its like to be through a harsh time, often take youkai in from the street and provide them with food and shelter, and in return, are able to better manage their business, farm or whatever they may own because of the help of the complete stranger.
There were also many lords. Though the oddest system of government, it was also the best from what the countries could see. What one leader lacked, another made up for, in turn, creating a perfect balance of what was needed and therefore making a good system. The land over the past 100 years had been making a quick recovery with help from their neighbors and friends, and from their own good leadership. The people loved their leaders, and treated them with respect, not complaining if there was a small raise in tax, because they knew that because taxes were going up now, they would be going down again soon. There was no rebellion, there was a low death rate and the average life span of a person was much longer than what should be expected.
Now in a new generation of leaders, the new lords work with each other when it is needed, but each knows that they will never get along as their fathers did. Uchiha Sasuke, Hatake Kakashi, Inuzuka Kiba, Hyuuga Neji, Nara Shikamaru, and Sabaku no Gaara. Their fathers ruled over their land well and the people loved them. Now, their son’s take over the positions hoping to keep the country running as well as it had been. Kakashi, being the oldest, yet younger than their fathers, was often the biggest voice of reason when it came to getting along with each other, and probably to date the only reason that the 6 of them are able to live under the same roof without killing each other.
These four countries are still in a desperate power struggle with each other, the North and West trying to push themselves onto the other territories. But so far, they haven’t progressed at all. The combination of the humans and youkai are easily enough to keep the other countries at bay, and all seems peaceful for now.
Until the day that a wandering boy with no background hit his 18th birthday.
