Convenient Timing

A/N: I can’t believe there aren’t very many stories about Ghost in the Shell. It’s an awesome show! My favorite pairing is between Bato and Major Motoko.

While I am writing a story about Sakura and Kakashi, I am also setting up a challenge:

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex

BATO X MOTOKO FANFIC/LEMON…..please?

Convenient Timing

Chapter One

Graduation Day…

Sakura grinned as she waited at the end of the walkway for her two teammates and former sensei.

She was wearing a ceremonial kimono and held a diploma in her right hand. She had just been called and decided to wait out of sight for her golden boys. Ten minutes passed before Sakura noticed how close they were to calling her teammates. Holding her breath, she watched several familiar faces continue down the hall, waiting for the first name.

“Sasuke Uchiha.”

Despite that he was one of the last to be called and most of the others had left to be with their families, Sasuke still received the loudest round of applause. Sakura waited.

After about thirty seconds, she spotted him walking down the steps towards her.

When he saw her, he blinked in surprise. He had to speak over the cheers and jeers of the crowd outside, still chanting for him even after he left the stage.

“Sakura? Your name was called a while ago. How long have you been waiting here?” he asked curiously.

“Long enough. Kakashi-Sensei wants to meet us here. He asked me to hold everyone up to wait for him.”

Sasuke let out an exasperated sigh, and Sakura giggled.

“Don’t worry Sasuke, he promised he wouldn’t be late this time.”

After the crowds seemingly incessant roaring died down, another name was called.

“Naruto Uzumaki.”

As if they had only stopped to take a breath at Naruto’s name, The crowd started up again, though not as loud as they had for Sasuke. He came grinning down the steps to meet his companions.

“Where’s the sensei?” He said questioningly.

His two partners shrugged shoulders, and Sakura looked up at the clock.

5:30

She sighed. ‘He promised he‘d be here.’

Something grumbled. Looking at Naruto, Sakura saw he was clutching his stomach.

“I’m hungry.” Naruto groaned.

“Getting impatient, are we?” A voice sounded from behind the blond.

Sakura looked up and saw Kakashi with his hand on Naruto’s head, which was squirming uncomfortably.

“Hey, let me go! Come on! Kakashi-sensei!” Naruto struggled to release himself from the Jounin’s firm grasp.

”I see you still haven’t relieved yourself from referring to me as sensei. I would have thought, Naruto, that after all those years of having difficulty accepting the superiority of others, you’d jump at the chance to stop calling someone teacher.” he sighed.

He looked the same way as he always had, but Sakura noticed something. There was something different about her former sensei, something she couldn’t exactly put her finger on. He hadn’t cut his hair, or changed its style; he was still clad in the same old Jounin uniform, still had his face mask, and his head band still covered his sharingan. But something wasn’t right…

Sakura’s thoughts were interrupted by a cry of “Enough of this damn speech already! I’m hungry!” and then a loud crash. Sakura watched in amusement while Sasuke held Naruto back, in an attempt to keep him from pummeling Kakashi. Not that there was much need. Kakashi was still more powerful than Naruto, or at least powerful enough to get away if he ever became a real threat.

A tipped garbage can lay at their feet, and Sakura walked over and picked it up, placing it into its previous position.

She shook her head, “Honestly, can’t you three be in the same room without getting in an argument over something?” she grabbed Naruto’s shirt and Kakashi’s arm and began to drag them towards the exit. “We’re going to be late. If we don’t get there by six the restaurant said they’d give away our reservation.”

She looked over her shoulder and saw Sasuke looking at them.

Suppressing a giggle at her teammate’s facial expression, she called, “Hurry up Sasuke! We have to go!” She then kicked open the door with her foot and continued to drag the two men behind her.

It was a few feet out of the door before she released them. Once she trusted them enough to get along until they reached the restaurant, Sakura doubled back in order to walk with Sasuke.

They walked in silence, leaving Sakura’s eyes to wander.

The sun was still entirely visible, though it was just brushing against the horizon. The sky was blue, purple, and red blended together as fluffy pillows of pink glided across. It was gorgeous, and the landscape’s tinted orange shade made the sight even more beautiful. Sakura stopped in her tracks, leaving Sasuke, Naruto, and Kakashi to walk ahead of her. She didn’t even notice she had stopped moving, too captivated with what she was witnessing to be distracted.

It took Sasuke a moment to realize that his teammate had fallen behind. He was too busy keeping his eye Naruto and Kakashi. When he did happen to glance back, however, he saw Sakura staring out at the sky with a mesmerized look on her face. The sun’s light reflected off of her bright green eyes, making them sparkle, and her hair flowed slightly in the light breeze.

He walked over to her in a sort of trance, and halted a couple inches away from her. He looked out into the same direction she was gazing, and he gasped. He was looking at a magnificent portrait of colors that collided with such power and grace it made him wonder if there was anything more breathtaking. Several birds flew by, and a voice sounded from somewhere in the heavens.

“Nature can be so lovely.”

Sasuke was startled, wondering who had interrupted his thoughts. He looked towards Sakura, who was looking at him, and realized. There was something more breathtaking after all.

Their gazes locked and they stood frozen to the spot. Neither dared to take their eyes off of the other, and it seemed as though they couldn’t breath.

Looking into his eyes, Sakura saw an entire world inside of him she never seemed to notice before, and he had never seemed to have revealed it. His world was dark, lonely, and full of hatred. There was no audio, but you could see the sounds, a crow was cawing from it‘s perch. It was cruel and tragic, with no other colors but black and red, and the only sign of something alive was the trembling body of a little boy covered in blood. He was hiding behind a dead tree, his arms around his knees. A dark figure stepped in front of the child, who shrieked in protest, and raised a large kunai. But before the figure could bring the knife down, however, Sakura looked away, trembling.

Sasuke’s eyes widened. He reached over and touched Sakura’s shoulder.

“Is everything okay?” he asked, apparent concern in his voice. Sakura took a moment before responding. Then she looked at him, shaking the feeling of hopelessness she had received from his gaze. After a few breaths, she calmed herself enough to place some logic into the conversation.

“We should go, Sasuke, look how far ahead they are.’ Sakura pointed into the direction of Naruto and Kakashi, who seemed to have failed in realizing that the other two were far behind them, resulting in making it several blocks away.

Stealing one last glance at each other, the pair hurried off to catch up, forgetting everything they had felt for the moment.
