Disclaimer:
I do not own Naruto, nor any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story.
Another Day
Implied Deidara/Yuugao, set preseries, when Yuugao is 19 and Deidara is approximately 15 (fudged, because we don't know his canon age). There is a long story behind this pairing, but this is a drabble and not worthy of a lengthy explanation. Just know that ff.net author Orm is partially responsible.
Disclaimer: Naruto is belong to Kishimoto Masashi. I just borrow it sometimes.
Warnings: None.
Another Day
There are a lot of things Deidara doesn't understand about Yuugao. He doesn't understand why she folds every piece of cloth in sight when she gets twitchy, because that stupid habit never actually does anything. He doesn't understand why she pretended to be a missing-nin back in the prison in Iwa to cover up her real mission, because they tortured her for information anyway. He doesn't understand why she's still on the run with him, because she's still technically a part of Konoha's ANBU and he's the real missing-nin now. And he especially doesn't understand why they haven't killed each other yet.
But there is one thing that Deidara understands about Yuugao, and that's that she's only human. When he stays up late and watches her sleep with that large unblinking eye, he understands that if he really wanted to, he could kill her there and then. Even with his arms it would hardly take much to throttle her pale neck in her sleep, or have a horde of tiny clay insects crawl into her hair and watch them all explode at once, firing a million little holes into that pretty head of hers. It would be too easy. He could do it.
And yet he doesn't. Even as he sits awake and watches her, hawk-like - even when all these thoughts pass through his head, he doesn't try to kill her. He has conceded, somewhat grudgingly, that it is because he likes her company. If he killed her, he'd be alone, and he doesn't much care for that idea. If Yuugao weren't there, then he would have no one to talk to, no one to listen - because Yuugao does listen, surprisingly, and even though Deidara is pretty sure she doesn't understand when he talks about art, she listens, and that's enough for him.
Someday he'll do it. Someday when she stops listening, when she stops being there. Someday, he thinks, I'll kill her.
But not today.
