I do not own Naruto, nor any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story.
It's Too Late to Apologize
This is a little different from my usual fics. For one, there’s no hardcore fuckings! I know, damn. Also, while I am a big fan of well-written songfics, I suck at writing them. However, I love this song and the idea for the fic came into my head while I was at work, and the whole time I was thinking about how I could make this song into a NaruSasu fic. In the end I decided it would be dramatic enough without the sex.
Another thing that I’ve never tried is an alternate ending. Somewhere along the line you will come into a large break in the page. If you liked the story the way it was, then by all means skip the alternate ending. But if you would like to see what may have happened, scroll way down and read the alternate ending. The reason for the alternate ending is that it doesn’t really fit in with the song, and since this is a songfic, I would like the majority of the focus to be on the lyrics. Those who read the alternate ending will see the explanation for it at the end. I just don’t want to ruin it if you do decide to read it.
Either way, please leave comments and tell me how my first songfic was!!! Thanks in advance!
P/S: Lol this is un-beta-ed. I'll edit it later.

I'm holding on your rope,
Got me ten feet off the ground.
And I'm hearing what you say but I just can't make a sound.
Naruto froze the moment he entered the office of the Godaime Hokage. He had gotten a message from one of her assistants mere moments after returning home from a particularly difficult mission. But anything that he had been through hadn’t prepared him for what was awaiting him in Tsunade’s office. The world around him seemed to be at a standstill. Time stopped, sound ceased to exist, and even the dryness of Naruto’s mouth seemed unreal. He stared, almost horrified, into fathomless black irises that seemed to contain no soul. Sasuke stared right back at him, with no hint of emotion. He couldn’t have known how long he was standing there before he realized Tsunade was talking to him.
“… And even though he came back of his own volition, I think he needs to be watched very closely. However, a full punishment isn’t necessary due to the fact that he did defeat Orochimaru and Itachi, earning a victory for Konoha.” Tsunade explained. Naruto listened to her without making a single noise or movement. “Also, I believe that he succeeded the thing he betrayed us to do, and he has no more of a reason to leave Konoha. However, he is suspended from missions and will undergo some trials before allowed to become a ninja again.”
Naruto nodded, soaking in all that she said. He immediately understood that she wanted him to take watch over the returned nukenin. Anger bubbled up inside of him. Not towards Tsunade, but towards the cold bastard before him. Sasuke hadn’t said a single word to Naruto, and he would’ve doubted Sasuke even knew he was in the room if the bastard wasn’t looking right at him. He nodded curtly at Tsunade.
“Alright, I’ll babysit, but don’t expect me to like it. Since we can trust him so much, can I have a word with you in private, Baachan?” He glanced momentarily at Sasuke. He could’ve sworn he saw the tiniest glimpse of a smirk but it was gone as fast as it came. Tsunade told Sasuke to wait for Naruto in the hall, and looked questionably at the blond Jinchuuriki.
“What is it, brat?” She asked, playfully. Naruto’s frowned deepened. He had given up looking for Sasuke a year ago, five years after Sasuke left. He got wise, in his opinion, and figured out that Sasuke had broken his heart and he could never forgive him. So looking for him was useless. The more he thought about Sasuke leaving him alone, the more he grew to hate him. Anger and resentment took the place of his once bubbly and childish attitude. It made him a better shinobi, but took away his carefree love of life. Sasuke made him bitter. Sasuke made him hate. It was Sasuke’s fault for leaving him all alone. He would hate him until he died.
“Why me? Why cant you get someone else to do it?” He inquired in a smallish, spiteful voice. He looked down at the floor.
“He came back for you, brat. The least you could do is tell him how much he hurt you.” She said in a firm voice. Naruto was all the more enraged.
“I don’t owe him a damn thing!! Not after what he did. I couldn’t care less if you executed him!” He seethed. The more he thought about the fact that Sasuke was outside the door, the more he wanted to kick right through it.
“You know you still love him.” She whispered gently. Other than him and Sasuke, she was the only person who knew that before Sasuke betrayed Konoha, they were secretly lovers. Their relationship had been difficult even back then, when they were still so competitive of each other, but they had also had so much more in common with each other than any one else they had ever known. Naruto knew Tsunade was telling the truth; he still did love Sasuke so much that it made him sick. Sasuke understood him so well, and Naruto understood Sasuke so well, but that didn’t make the pain of losing the raven-haired shinobi any less.
“He hurt me too badly. I don’t think I will ever be able to forget.” Naruto whispered, emotions flooding his voice.
“I know, Naruto. But you need to confront him to deal with it. You’ve changed and I think Sasuke is the only one who can bring some life back into your eyes.” She told him truthfully. Naruto nodded.
“Alright, I’ll do it.” He sighed, thinking he must be a masochist because being around Sasuke was going to be painful. Regardless, he bid a small goodbye to the Hokage and exited her office.
Sasuke was leaning against the opposite wall looking blankly at Naruto once again. Naruto cocked his head, motioning Sasuke to follow him. They went back to Naruto’s small apartment, provided by Tsunade. He was still dead tired from his long mission and craved a shower and good night’s rest.
After his shower, Naruto walked out into the small living room where he had left Sasuke. The raven was sitting on the couch, staring into the darkness of the room. He looked up when Naruto entered, dressed only in a pair of orange boxers.
“You can shower if you want. There’s an extra blanket in the closet in the bathroom. You can sleep on the couch. I’m going to bed so don’t be too loud.” He said, voice completely monotone, devoid of any feeling. Sasuke nodded, not saying a word, and went into the bathroom. Naruto sighed and went to bed, falling asleep almost immediately due to fatigue.
Sasuke walked out of the bathroom an hour later. The living room was still dark and Naruto’s bedroom door was closed. He threw on a pair of black boxers and went to Naruto’s door, putting an ear to it. It seemed Naruto was asleep, but tossing around in a fitful sleep. He opened the door quietly and walked to sit beside Naruto’s bed. The curtain of the window was drawn, letting in some light, illuminating the blond’s caramel skin. Sweat glittered on his tensed face and toned torso. He flailed his arm to the side, almost hitting Sasuke in the face. The shinobi was too quick, though, and caught Naruto’s hand lightly. He held it in both of his, then moved one to stroke Naruto’s cheek. The blond immediately woke up and stared at Sasuke,
“What are you doing in here?” He asked with more vehemence than he actually intended. Then he looked closely into Sasuke’s eyes. They were flashing with emotions and feelings he had never seen there before.
“You were having a bad dream.” Sasuke stated, his voice shaking and rough. Naruto just stared, unsure of what to do. “I missed you Naruto. I’m so sorry!!”
You tell me that you need me,
Then you go and cut me down, but wait,
You tell me that you're sorry.
Naruto looked at the grip Sasuke had on his hand. He couldn’t make sense of what Sasuke had said.
“Go to sleep Sasuke…” Was all he could manage.
“Please don’t shut me out yet Naruto. I am so sorry for what I did! I was so foolish and I know I was wrong! I need you so badly!!” Sasuke whispered in a quavering voice. Naruto felt sick to his stomach listening to it. He had never seen Sasuke so shaken and it was too different. This wasn’t his cold-hearted bastard. This wasn’t his Sasuke!
Didn't think I'd turn around, and say....
“It’s too late to apologize, Sasuke. The damage has been done. Now leave me alone.” Naruto fell back to his bed and rolled over, back facing Sasuke. He heard the raven stand and walk out, closing his door. He heard the old springs in the couch sag under his weight. He heard himself choke on his quiet sobs before he fell into another fitful sleep.
That it's too late to apologize, it's too late.
I said it's too late to apologize, it's too late
-----------------------------------------------------
Naruto awoke early the next morning. His good night’s sleep turned out to be horrible and even more exhausting. He got dressed and walked into the living room, expecting to see Sasuke there. When he found the living room empty he felt slightly alarmed. He grabbed his weapons pouch and fastened it to his leg, leaving the house. He figured he would at least do good by Tsunade and keep tabs on Sasuke. It was his newest mission after all. He ran past the dock where Sasuke used to sit alone as a young boy after having lost his family. He stopped dead in his tracks when he realized that Sasuke was sitting there on the dock. He would have never figured finding Sasuke would be entirely too easy. He went down and stood behind him.
“I promised Tsunade-baachan I would watch you, idiot. You could at least leave a note if you’re leaving. Although you’ve never bothered checking in before, why start now? You’re not sorry.” He finished, ranting out Sasuke’s back. The raven stood and faced Naruto.
“I wasn’t lying. I have never regretted anything more than I regret leaving you.” A single tear slid down that beautiful, pale cheek. Naruto was astonished. He couldn’t believed Sasuke was crying for him.
“Sasuke…. I already told you. It’s too late. You hurt me too bad!” Naruto tried to keep the pain out of his voice. He had an idea it wasn’t working well.
“Please don’t say that Naruto. I need you so bad. I have nothing left!”
I'd take another chance, take a fall,
Take a shot for you.
And I need you like a heart needs a beat,
But it's nothing new, yeah
“Sasuke, I want to be with you! I’ve always wanted to be with you! And I need you badly too. But I just cant forgive you for what you did. I will never be able to forget. You broke my heart, my soul. I just cant deal with it anymore.” He turned and headed back to his apartment, deciding he couldn’t care less if Sasuke never came back. He ate some ramen, when he got home, but headed right back outside; it was too nice a day to be cooped up inside. And even though he felt so melancholy, he couldn’t help but appreciate the cool, gentle breeze and wonderful sunshine.
He didn’t see Sasuke for the rest of the day. Which was fine by him. He enjoyed himself nonetheless in the old playground by the school. It was solitary because school was out for the summer. It was nice. Even more lovely was the setting sun, which snuck up on his because he lost track of the time. It surprised him that he had sat on a swing for nearly the entire day. But he didn’t mind.
It wasn’t until after the sun had completely set and the full moon lit up the sky that Sasuke walked towards him. Naruto didn’t acknowledge his presence.
“If you don’t love me anymore, I will leave you alone forever.” He said darkly, sadly. Naruto glanced up at him.
“You’re an idiot, Sasuke.” Naruto spat. He stood to face Sasuke.
I loved you with the a fire red,
Now it's turning blue, and you say
I'm sorry like an angel,
Heaven let me think was you
But I'm afraid....
“I have always loved you! And I never stopped….” His voice faltered. “I still love you so much. But I told you, I just cant forget what you did to me, and what happened between us.”
Sasuke nodded sadly.
It's too late to apologize, it's too late.
I said it's too late to apologize, it's too late.
“It’s too late to apologize.” Naruto whispered. He walked past Sasuke without saying anything else. The raven turned around and watched Naruto disappear into the darkness. He knew he would never see the beautiful man again.
Or so he thought. He was halfway through the forest surrounding Konoha with the same clothes he’d been wearing for three days and a small sack of provisions. He had already run out of tears and the pain in his chest wouldn’t go away. He finally understood what Naruto must have felt when he left. He hated himself for ever leaving the only person who had ever really known him and loved him. He had no one to blame but himself. That only made the suffering worse. He was so exhausted he decided to jump up in a tree and rest on a high branch for a while.
He hadn’t even realized he had fallen asleep when he woke again to the presence of a familiar chakra. He looked down below the tree to see shining cerulean eyes looking up at him, dancing with emotion. He jumped down to meet Naruto.
“I thought you never wanted to see me!” Sasuke exclaimed, truly surprised. Naruto smiled beautifully and Sasuke could have died a happy man that second.
“It’s too late to apologize, and I can never forgive you for what you did, but that doesn’t mean you cant spend the rest of your life making it up to me.” Naruto said softly. “I need you so much and I know you really do need me.”
Sasuke was overwhelmed, overjoyed, and overly ecstatic that Naruto was saying these words. He shook his head and blinked his eyes a couple of times to make sure he wasn’t dreaming. It was really his beautiful Naruto saying these things to him. It was his Naruto saying he still loved him, still needed him, still wanting to be with him. He found new tears streaming down his face as an equally tear-stained Naruto hugged him. He hugged his beautiful blond back and tightly held to him as if he would never let go.
-----------------------------------------------------
The iridescent light from the full moon streamed through the open window, and a caressing breeze wafted into the room. Sasuke lay on Naruto’s bed after walking back from the forest in what seemed like a nanosecond. Naruto lay on top of him, as nude as himself, and held him tightly. The blond kissing Sasuke eagerly and deeply. They were both desperate for each other. They both hungered for each other. They had been starving for far too long and now they could feast on the presence of one another.
Naruto’s hand trailed up Sasuke’s sides, making the raven gasp and moan in pleasure. It was electricity he was feeling from those strong, callous hands. He held tightly onto Naruto’s neck, afraid to let go. He wanted it to last forever. Naruto sat between Sasuke’s legs, and nudged them apart with his knees. Sasuke lifted his hips and wrapped his legs around Naruto’s waist to give his lover better access. Naruto put some of the lavender-scented oil that was sitting beside Sasuke on the bed onto his fingers. He warmed it up then trailed the hand underneath him. He give Sasuke’s already-erect manhood a few tender strokes and watched his lover’s face contort with pleasure. The sounds his lover was making were almost enough to make the blond climax right there.
He trailed his hand lower and massaged the sac below, then sunk lower and rubbed Sasuke’s entrance. He pushed his first finger in and watched as Sasuke closed his eyes and moaned loudly, arching his body into Naruto touch. He knew neither of them were going to last long so he thrust another finger in gently and another soon after.
“Naruto, just please… enter me! I need you!!” Sasuke wailed breathlessly. He was already so hard and so ready for Naruto. The blond complied and positioned himself to push inside of Sasuke. He did so without stopping, although it took him several moments to fully submerge into Sasuke. They both need to feel for as long as possible. He took his time after Sasuke adjusted to the intrusion. He leaned over and kissed Sasuke passionately. When he moved it was careful and fluid. It seemed as if they were performing some exotic dance that was both romantic and sensual. They both felt as if they were on fire and loved each other all the more.
Naruto reached down between them and stroked Sasuke’s erection in rhythm to their slow, graceful love-making. Sasuke rolled his hips up to meet Naruto and held onto him all the more tightly. They were both breathless, but still managed to kiss each other amorously. Sasuke’s legs tightened around Naruto’s waist and his lover knew he was close to achieving nirvana. He stroked Sasuke harder and thrust into him gently, but rapidly. They climaxed at the same time; Naruto felt Sasuke’s warm essence on his hand and stomach as he released, buried deep inside of the beautiful, raven-haired angel. They both held each other tight and relaxed more than they had ever relaxed.
“Naruto?” Sasuke whispered into the darkness.
“Hmm?” Naruto purred happily. He had never felt so complete. He still couldn’t forgive Sasuke but he knew they would be happier together anyway. Now that Sasuke was back and he knew his lover wouldn’t be going anywhere.
“I love you.” Sasuke whispered into his ear. Naruto rolled off of Sasuke, and held his lover closely.
“I will always love you.” Naruto whispered back. They shared a chaste kiss before falling into sleep.
They both knew that when they woke up, it would be the first day of the rest of their life together.
The End.

The End.
-----------------------------------------------------
Alright well I wrote the ending like this because I am a sucker for a happy ending. =3 I know the smut wasn't really all that great but I felt I should do it. Anway I hope you liked. Leave me some feedback, even if it's just correcting something. I'll edit it later, but for now I'm done.
