The end of everything?

Coal black eyes grew wide as a flash of yellow filled his vision.

Time seemed to stand still as he saw the surprised yet satisfied look in his enemy´s eyes; a slim man with a painted face.

The sound of cold steel piercing warm flash before scraping against bones filled the air as his opponent buried his katana in his dobe´s chest.

Naruto had stepped in front of his as one of the four nuke nins had tried to pierce Sasuke´s heart. The painted nuke nin smirked with satisfaction as he withdrew his blade from the blonde´s body; who fell towards the ground from the fatal wound.

“NOOOOO!” Sasuke ignored the pain of the many heavily bleeding wounds that he had received earlier in the battle.

The enemy nin never got a change to gloat as Sasuke ripped his heart out before he caught Naruto in his arms and dropped to the ground with him.

Naruto smiled weakly up at the raven while Kakashi and Sakura took care of the last of their enemies.

“WHY! Why did you do that, dobe… hold on, Sakura will heal you in a heart beat!” Sasuke felt tears of desperation well up in his eyes as he tried his best to stop the massive bleeding from the wound in his partner´s chest.

´This wound is fatal… mayor arteries have been severed… it is too close to the heart… please let the Kyuubi heal him, oh dear god… save him.` He begged as he used the sharingan to clarify Naruto´s state.

“I couldn´t help it… I had to do it… even if it meant my end.” Naruto whispered with a soft smile at his raven-haired lover. “I couldn´t let you… die and leave me alone again… I wouldn´t survive it… If I were to lose you again, teme.”

“I didn´t come back just to lose you like this, Usuratonkachi… Don´t you dare to die now that we have finally found each other…” He felt the tears roll down his pale cheeks as he knew that this wasn´t going to end well.

“SAKURA! Get your ass over here, now!” He cried out to the pink-haired medic who was already on her way.

They were both slowly bleeding to death while Kakashi fought the last nuke-nin.

Naruto´s face was already unusual pale as Sakura dropped to her knees next to him; doing her best to heal his wounds, to be able to save his life.

“NARUTO?! Look at me… stay with me,” he shouted at his blonde friend. “Don´t you dare to close your eyes. Don´t you dare to die and leave me all alone in this god forsaken world… you hear me, dobe!”

“Teme… don´t talk as if… I´m the only one… dying here…” The blonde whispered weakly as he reached up to touch Sasuke´s bloodied chin with a trembling hand.

“Naruto… what are you talking about?” Sakura whimpered as she slowly realized that Naruto had lost too much blood already. She wasn´t going to lose him without a fight.

“… It´s already… too late… you should… take care… of Sasuke´s wounds instead… of mine… Kyuu… is…” He spoke softly. He coughed blood as he lifted his wounded torso from the ground to slip his hand around Sasuke´s neck.

“Sasuke… Are you wounded… where?” The medic crawled around Naruto to examine the Uchiha. She let out a strangled cry as she detected a nasty stab wound to his lunges.

“Oh god… No, not you too.” She sobbed as she forced more chakra into her hands in a desperate attempt to save at least on of them.

“I´m… sorry… Sas´ke… I know… that I promised… to stay with you… forever… but I guess… that forever… ends for us… here…” The blonde said with a soft whisper. More blood trailed from paling lips down his chin and dripped onto his orange jacket.

´Oh god… he is choking on his own blood.` The pink-haired woman thought in horror. Naruto was nearly as pale as Sasuke, who didn´t seem to react on her attempt to heal him.

“No, we had too little time together… it´s not fair… Naruto… don´t die…I love you…” Sasuke used his last chakra too draw Naruto´s weakening body closer his chest that harbored a heart that kept on beating for the blonde.

He began to rock back and forth slowly to comfort the blonde as well as himself, before he leaned closer to kiss a whiskered cheek lovingly.

“It´s alright Sas´ke… we got together… before the end… we might only… have shared… These last few months… under the same roof… As lovers… those months… days, hours… minutes and seconds… where the best… in my entire life… Thank you, teme…”

“… Do you… think that this… love that we share… is something… special Naru… to?” Sasuke asked.

It hurt like hell just to breathe as his lungs were filled with fluids, but he didn´t care about the pain or the fact that he was slowly drowning in his own blood… he was going to pull it together… hold on just a little bit longer… for Naruto.

They were going to leave this world together… very soon.

“I like to think so… I wish that it… wouldn´t end… here… I wish that we could… get another chance… to get it right… to avoid all the… mistakes we made… the time that I´ve wasted… on stupid raids… for power… and you… Had to chase after me… for years… till I finally opened my eyes and realized that power is not to be found in the darkness… but in the light… with you, dobe.” Sasuke said softly.

“Who says… that it will… Teme… lets make… a new promise… let´s meet on the other side… of this bright warm… light… and let us… prove that our love… is greater than the boundaries… of this world…” Naruto spoke softly as he pressed his nearly numb lips against Sasuke´s in a soft kiss.

´Oh god, his lips are so cold and his skin is so pale,` thought the Uchiha. He could feel the life drain from his own body as he looked deeply into those beautiful blue eyes which always seemed to shine with a holy light just for him… even though life was slowly ebbing out and the sparkling blue was turning dim.

“… Sas´ke… I´m not scared anymore… Because I know… that I will see you… on the other side… promise me that I´ll see you… there soon…” Naruto almost sounded as if he was purring… just like a wounded animal would do if it was near someone it loved… no matter how much in pain… just to tell that it felt save with that special person.

“I promise, koi… and I´ll keep on… searching till we are united… once more,” Sasuke whispered with a sad smile. ´This is it… this is goodbye,` the Uchiha thought.

“… And I will… will wait… for you… forever, Teme… I… love you… always.”

Sasuke felt his heart cry out in sorrow as he saw the soft warm smile that his lover´s was aiming at him. The Uchiha tightened his grip on his blonde as he felt his heartbeat slow down.

“No!” He sobbed. He ignored the pain that threatened to claim his conscious.

He had to hold on just a little longer… because if he was to lose his consciousness now… he would not be able to say his last goodbye to the only one he had ever loved with all of his heart as they would both be dead.

“Sas´ke… I´m so… cold… Sas-” Sasuke felt his lover clench his hands around his shirt and neck as the life left those beautiful blue eyes he loved so dearly.

He cried out in sorrow and sheer pair as Naruto´s body became limp in his embrace.

Sasuke closed his dark eyes for the last time as he buried his face into the orange fabric of his soul-mate’s colorful jacket and drew in his unique scent for the last time.

Naruto was gone… his beloved butterfly had been taken away from him… but it wasn´t like he would have a lot of time to mourn as he would soon join the blonde in the eternal rest.

“See… you… soon… dobe…” He whispered as he allowed the darkness to claim his soul. He could see a warm and comforting light within the darkness. Sasuke could hear someone calling for him.

´Teme… over here!` A warm chuckle found it´s way to his mind.

´Naruto?` Was Naruto calling for him? Yes… it sounded like Naruto´s voice…. Calling him… urging him to enter the light.

He felt so warm and light. There was no pain or heartache here… the light felt just like his lover´s soothing embrace. He reached into the light and felt a familiar hand brushing against his.

´Naruto… you always keep your promises don´t you?` He said with a smile before he stepped forward to be engulfed in the light and to join his lover in the eternal realm where no one could ever harm them ever again.

Sakura screamed out in desperation as she wasn´t able to save either of her teammates. Kakashi had finally killed their enemy and was staring at the scenario that meet him.

Sasuke was cradling Naruto who still in wasn´t willing to let go of the one person he had loved his entire life.

They were both gone…. Dead… like so many good souls before them.

Kakashi felt the tears well up in his mismatching eyes. He removed his hitai-ate and allowed himself to show his sorrow as he embraced that only survivor of the old team seven, except for himself of course.

The copy-nin looked at the two dead men as he tried his best to soothe Sakura´s pain. ´They look so peaceful… as if this was meant to be… even in death they looked happy…. As long as they were together. `

Kakashi was still hugging the sobbing pink-haired medic as Neji and his team arrived to back them up… only one hour to late.

Epilog:

“Do you think that they are together on the next plain, as they wished for?” Sakura asked her silver-haired sensei as they stared at the black memorial stone… where the names of their beloved friend had been carved into the hard surface.

It had become her new hobby… to meet Kakashi and Iruka here each morning at dawn… to place a single sunflower and a red rose on the top of the polished stone.

“I hope so, Sakura-chan… I like to picture them together; fighting as only those two can, smiling and loving each other… watching over us… protecting us till it´s our turn to die… and join them on the other side of that warm light.” Kakashi said softly as he ran his fingers across the shiny black stone with far too many familiar names carves into it´s cold surface.

His uncovered eye suddenly caught a glimpse of bright yellow and pitch black from the three logs that had once played an important role as team seven had learned a very important lesson about teamwork and friendship. A familiar laughter and too familiar name calling rang in his ears. ´Dobe!… Teme!`

The silver-haired nin turned his head to look at the sobbing pink-haired girl and his dolphin and noticed that they hadn´t noticed anything. ´Thanks you two. I truly hope that you´ll be happy for all eternity.`

“Yes, I truly believe that they´re happy where ever they are… as long as they have each other.” He said with a soft smile. ´Naruto… Sasuke ,see you on the other side.`
