Everything

I had kind of a bad day today. So to vent, I wrote this. It made me cry and now I feel kind of better.

Loosely inspired by the video of "Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely" by the Backstreet Boys.

...

Because after all, everything is taken away from him.

Sasuke had just been informed of the news. Naruto had been in a car accident that night while driving home from work. After hanging up with the EMS who found his number in Naruto’s wallet, he flew like liquid fury to get dressed and make it to the hospital. He didn’t care if the roads were slick with ice. He didn’t care if he joined Naruto in the hospital. The only things that were reeling through his mind was the car accident his parents were in a few years earlier. Neither lived. He couldn’t lose Naruto like that. He simply wouldn’t make it if his most precious person was lost like his mother and father.

He was only vaguely conscious of parking the car at the hospital and running up to the ICU desk at the front of the wing. He gave his name and said he was there to see Naruto. The receptionist informed him unemotionally that Naruto was still in surgery. He asked her the blond’s condition.

“He’s critical now. He broke both arms and legs and dislocated a hip. Several ribs were crushed by the airbag.” She looked up at the dark-haired man before her. He had been pale when he came in, but his cheeks were flushed from the cold. Now he looked as if he was going to pass out. All color was drained from his face and his eyes were wide and unseeing. She told him kindly to wait in the waiting room while they put pins in his arms and legs and wrapped him up.

He took a seat in the nearly empty waiting room. There was a mother and small child there, but for what reason, he wasn’t sure. It didn’t matter. His lover was in critical condition and all he could do was wait. He hated waited anyway, but the fact that he was completely useless to Naruto infuriated him. He soon took up pacing across the enclosure. The woman watched him while he child slept in her arms. He was soon sitting back down grabbing his hair.

“No!! No, no, no… God please...” Tears streamed down his face. “God please don’t let him die.” He whispered to himself. It startled him slightly when he felt a warm, delicate hand on his shoulder. His head whipped over to see the woman. Her child was sleeping soundly on the chair she abandoned to be near him.

“It’ll be alright.” She whispered. His eyes widened.

“I cant lose him… I cant… Like they left me… Oh God!!! No!!!” His hands in his hair began pulling roughly. The woman looked over at her sleeping girl.

“Her father had a severe heart attack. But I know he’ll make it through this. And so will your precious person.” She smiled through glossy eyes. Her kind words touched him, but did nothing to comfort him. Then she turned away sadly. “They’re… looking for a donor heart.” Sasuke would have liked to comfort her like she had him, but he didn’t know what to say. So he just held her hand in his.

It was another three hours before the surgeon came out. He walked tiredly up to Sasuke.

“Sasuke Uchiha?” The raven nodded and stood up, facing the doctor.

“What is your relationship with Naruto Uzumaki?” The doctor asked coldly.

“He’s my lover… Is he ok?!” Sasuke answered the question, although he didn’t see how it was relevant.

“Does he have any living family?” The doctor asked. Sasuke shook his head. The man before him sighed.

“Normally we don’t let non-family members in to see the patients but--”

“I’m his medical proxy. I would have the paperwork with me but I didn’t grab it going out the door.” Sasuke interrupted him. They both decided a while back to make each other responsible for their lives. The surgeon nodded and led Sasuke to Naruto’s room, stopping outside the door.

“He is just coming out of anesthesia from the surgery. The only thing we can do for him at this point is to make his last moments painless.”

Sasuke’s world stopped. Last momen—Oh God! No!!! The doctor let him in and Sasuke went to Naruto’s bedside. He pushed a chair over and sat beside the blond. His face was bruised and scraped. Both arms and legs were in casts. Sasuke took the exposed, tan hand into his. Naruto’s eyes flitted open halfway. He was heavily drugged on morphine.

“Hey… beautiful.” He murmured. His voice was scratchy and Sasuke barely recognized it.

“Oh Naruto! I love you so much!!!” The raven choked out, his words getting caught in sobs. Naruto smiled.

“I love you too, Sasuke. It’s… going to be ok…” His voice wavered a little. Sasuke began sobbing uncontrollably. A thumb caressed his hand.

“Don’t cry… Please Sasuke.” Tears began sliding down Naruto’s cheeks. “You are so beautiful Sasuke.” The raven completely lost it and flung himself on the blond, desperately kissing his mouth. He felt the slightly raise of the blond’s lips, then they fell and the monitor beside his bed flatlined. Sasuke looked up and began panicking.

“OH GOD!!! NARUTO NO!!! I NEED YOU!!!” He screamed. Nurses rushed in and disconnected Naruto’s monitor. The beeping stopped and the nurses stood near while Sasuke sobbed. A few of them crying as well.

“Naruto…” Sasuke slid down and put his head on the blond’s chest. “Don’t leave me… Please don’t leave me… I cant live without you!” He closed his eyes, unable to process that his lover was really gone.

It was only moments later, it seemed, that a surgeon approached Sasuke.

“Mr. Uchiha?” He asked in a low, soothing voice. Sasuke looked up, eyes red and lifeless. “Naruto is a registered organ donor. There’s a father who really needs Naruto’s heart right now.”

Sasuke stood up and took one last look at Naruto. Then he leaned over and placed a light, passionate kiss on the blond’s lips and nodded.

“We’ll see each other again really soon.” He whispered into the blond’s ear. And he watched as they took Naruto’s body away to extract his heart for someone’s daddy. Nurses brought everything of Naruto’s that was confiscated from the accident and Sasuke made his way out. Suddenly a pair of arms encircled him.

“I’m so sorry!!!” The woman from the waiting room sobbed. “Because of your lover, my little girl gets to be with her father!!!” She pulled back and looked at Sasuke. He nodded at her and tried to smile, but his heart clenched painfully. She nodded and took her sleepy child away. Somehow knowing Naruto’s heart was going to the little girl’s father, didn’t comfort him. Right now he didn’t care. Naruto’s heart always belonged to him. He would see Naruto soon. Very soon.

An hour later an ambulance was taking away a dark-raven haired man who had committed suicide by shooting himself in the head. Because after all, everything is taken away from him. So he decided to take away the last thing he had, himself. And somewhere a blond dobe welcomed his beautiful raven with open arms. And they embraced in eternity together.
