Wind And Fire

As Temari fell from the high branches she looked at the sky. She never really thought looking at the ground was too bright and besides that, the night sky was far more prettier.

She grit her teeth, this was gonna hurt like a bitch.

She wondered what would kill her first, hitting the ground or the poison. What the hell was Kankuro thinking anyway? It was like he was aiming the poison senbon at her.

Her arms and legs wouldn't move. She opened her mouth to yell but, no sound came out. Fucker, she thought, Kankuro and his goddamn poison weapons.

She grit her teeth harder and waited for impact. She let her mind wander. She replayed the argument between Gaara, Kankuro and herself that morning.

"All I'm saying is you're a daughter and a sister of Kazekage. Couldn't you try a little harder to stay in Sunagakure?"
She cut her eyes at Kankuro, " Maybe if you had a girlfriend, you could understand. It has nothing to do with Suna or Konoha. I love Shikamaru. And I'm gonna be a jounin for the leaf. Gaara's happy for me, why can't you be happy for me too?"

Gaara watched the heated argument between his brother and sister. Sometimes he couldn't believe they were older. "That's enough, both of you. Don't you think Temari's old enough to make her own decisions?"

"Yeah but Gaara, she's abandoning the Sand."
"Fuck you, abandoning the Sand!!!"
"Temari! Enough! It's done. Are you two going to be able to carry out your mission? Or do I need to find other ninja?" Gaara glared at them both.
"Sorry Gaara. I can carry out the mission.", she said looking down at her sandals.
"Kankuro?"
"Yes, Lord Kazekage, I can carry out my mission.", Kankuro said glaring at them both.
"Very well, go.", Gaara said dismissing them both.

It's so bright here. And why is it so bouncy?, thought Temari. she opened her eyes a little more, blond hair? She didn't know anyone with blond hair did she? Her mind was to fuzzy to think. Blond hair. Orange and black. It was familiar and it seemed to be ringing a bell.

She tried to smell the blond, orange and black bouncy person, but a sharp pain in her rib cage let her know that it was a bad idea. All she could smell was blood anyway. She tried to wiggle her fingers and the pain that shot through her arm made her cry out, which made her cough, which caused her to black out.

"What do you think she was doing way out here by herself?"
"You idiot! ? She was on a mission and something happened. I can't believe how dense you are."
"I know that! I mean why was she near the Kononha border? She wasn't due for another week."
"I don't know..."

Too bright, Temari thought as she tried to open her eyes. She couldn't place the voices, although she knew she had heard them before. She tried to speak but couldn't. She forced her eyes open, she was in a hospital room.

I survived? Well then., she thought. But what hospital? It was too bright to be Sunagakure's hospital. Her eyes wouldn't focus, so she couldn't make out the insignia on the medic's headband.

Hmmm, pink hair, green eyes. Damnit! She knew who this medic was, but her mind was too fuzzy to think of the medic's name. Suddenly a though popped into her mind, cherry blossom.

"Sak..ura?", she croaked out.
The medic turned around trying to smile, "Temari! Don't try to talk yet. Here.", Sakura handed her a note pad, "Write in down. Your larynx was partially crushed. We've repaired it but, you aren't supposed to talk."

She wrote six words: What the fuck happened to me?

"Well, we were hoping you could tell us that. I hate to ask but, why were you near the Konoha border?"
Temari tried to shake her head but , it almost gave her the spins. She wrote: No, earth. We were gathering intel.
"Temari, Naruto and I found you about 7 kilometers from the Konoha border, You almost died. Besides your larynx, you had 4 broken ribs, your left elbow and shoulder were dislocated, your right foot was shattered and you had a cracked pelvis. And you had been poisoned! It was pure luck we came by when we did."

She closed her eyes. Damn, she almost died. Was she mistaken about the location of her mission? Think Temari! She couldn't remember. So she wrote: Shikamaru? Gaara?

"Shikamaru is out on a mission with his dad, they're not due back for a few days. We uh, haven't sent word to Suna yet. We wanted to make sure of your safety. Y'know, in case...", Sakura looked away.

Temari wrote six more words: Let the bastards think I'm dead. And she closed her eyes again.
