Title: Tomorrow Finally Comes

Author: Quirk othe Trade

C&CC: quirkothetrade@yahoo.com or where-ever this is posted.

Category: fan fiction

Genre: yaoi, romance, angst, AU to be on the safe side, whatever else I can't recall at the moment...

Rating: adult, 17 and up or mature minds

Warnings: AU-ness, sexual content; implied character death; Kakashi/Gai; Kakashi/Lee; anticipating future Lee/Gaa/Lee; implied Naru/Hina/Saku; implied one-sided Neji+Tenten...

Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto, and make no monies off of this fiction. Naruto belongs to whoever owns it. This is a fanwork made in hopes of expressing my love for the series and to shut up the plot bunnies that conspire with my muse.

A/N: -_-;; I admit that I like and tend to write odd pairings, but... I blame the muse. Also, constructive criticism is appreciated, because I don't catch all typos and grammar mistakes, or when stuff might sound weird to other people, etc. All fuck-ups are my own, which includes the title. I'm not so great with those. Otherwise, please enjoy. Oh- everyone is older, even given the time skip. To give you an idea, Lee is roughly twenty-four, twenty-three and Gaara is roughly twenty-three, twenty-two. Otherwise, please enjoy.

Beta: Un-betaed

Synopsis: Two years after Gai's apparent death, there's the possiblity that he's alive, and the tangled mess that Lee has been dealing with becomes a great deal more complicated when they go to retrieve him from Sunagakure... for this chapter specifically: The beginning, with not all the cards on the table yet.

The night breeze carried any scent downwind, and as Lee landed on the tree branch just beyond the camp fire’s light, his nose wrinkled at the familiar, acidic smell of wood smoke. Scanning the area around him, he deemed it safe and jumped down from his perch to approach camp.

“Lee-san! There you are,” Sakura greeted him with a tired smile. She was hovering over rice pots and a small grill set with roasting veggies. The cooking fish angled over the fire were on peeled sticks.

“Here is the water as per your request, Sakura-san. My apologies if I was late.”

“No, it’s fine.” She took the water canteens from him and immediately began to use one, topping off the rice. The camp was silent around them, Naruto and Sai gone. Kakashi was nowhere to be seen, but that was expected if he was backtracking their trail. “I sent Naruto and Sai for more wood for in the morning. They should have just listened when I told them to bring enough for in the morning, too.”

“It is just until tomorrow. We will reach Konoha by noon.” Reaching for a plate and a spare pair of chopsticks, he began lifting the grilled vegetables off the fire. He was aware of the strawberry blonde watching him as she set the last lid back in place.

“Lee-san, is it true you’re involved with Kakashi-sensei?” There was barely a hesitation in her voice as she spoke.

“No, I am not.” He answered, looking up at her as he did so.

Her mouth twisted slightly. “Then are you sleeping with him?”

“Sakura-san, is Yamanaka-san spreading gossip about me again?”

She had the grace to look guilty and turn red. “Maybe… I just want to know so I can tell her where to stick it.”

Lee laughed.

Lee was not laughing now.

It was two something in the morning and once again, Hatake Kakashi had landed on his windowsill, a fine tension practically humming around him.

(You can not call it being involved or sleeping together if you are only having very active sex without a commitment,) he thought, eyes scrunching shut and teeth sinking into his lip to bite back a moan. The silver haired jounin began to thrust more firmly into him, hips angling to penetrate deep. It wasn’t unpleasant; it was NEVER unpleasant. Kakashi excelled in sex as he did everything else. He had known what buttons to push to get Lee hot and bothered the first time, had mastered most, if not all of Lee’s buttons after only a handful of times together, and had been creating new buttons in the two years since.

But he had only came to Lee because of Gai Sensei’s demise that two years ago. Lee hadn’t known there was anything such relationship between his sensei and Kakashi until the older man had sought him out on the training field.

Lee trotted over to the figure reclining against the tree out of the evening rays of the sun, feeling the sweat drip down his face. “Kakashi Sensei! How are you this evening?”

“Fine, thanks.” He didn’t look up from the pages of his book as Lee bent to grab his towel. “You’re training very hard today. Did you loose another self made challenge?”

“No, just the usual.” (Especially since Gai Sensei is not here to train with me any more.) He began wiping his face with the soft cloth.

“Mm. I’m heading over to the memorial stone. Would you like to join me?”

Looking over the edge of the towel, Lee stared at the other man for a moment. All that had been found was Maito Gai’s leaf-plate belt, half burned. It was an S ranked mission, and it had needed a two person team. Due to Konoha still being short handed despite all the new shinobi managing to graduate every year, there was still holes in their ranks and he had been sent by himself. Lee usually made the memorial run with Tenten and Neji in the mornings, but… he could go again. It wasn’t very often that he had the pleasure of the Copy ninja seeking out his company, after all. “…Thank you, Kakashi Sensei. If you would like to go now, I will accompany you.”

“Hmm. Let’s go, then.” Kakashi lead the way and Lee fell into step just behind him after scooping up his water bottle. It was a quiet trek to out to the memorial, and Lee didn’t try to fill the silence.

Lee opened his eyes groggily, a pleasant ache in his body. The sex was great, but he wished Kakashi would come earlier so he could get more sleep; not everyone liked to be tardy like him.

The dream he had been dreaming drifted to the forefront, and he sighed. (Dreaming about the past again…) It was something he dreamt of often. Of Gai-sensei training him, of his first Chunin match, of that day Kakashi had spoken to him and made a pass at him at the memorial stone. (Gai-sensei, what would you say if you knew that your lover missed you to the point of having intercourse with someone who passably resembles you? What would you say if you knew I agreed because I am lonely?)

He thought of Tenten and Neji, whom he had finally formed tight bonds with, and of all the friends he had made from the older chunin, jounin and the infamous Rookie Nine. Really, how could he be lonely with so many friends? But he was- he had been closest to Gai, and he had never taken a lover after Sakura had finally hooked up with Naruto and Hinata.

(Not that I really wanted Sakura-san. I just wanted what she represented to me at the time. In that respect, I was very dishonorable, ne?) Rolling out of bed with a wince, he headed for the shower. Body fluids both his own and not were dried on his skin, and there was the slightest tenderness in his body because Kakashi had gotten enthusiastic again last night. The silver haired man tended to overdo it when he hadn’t landed on the green beast’s windowsill in a few days.

Kakashi had never uttered a word of comparison between Lee and Gai, but it made Lee wonder if Gai had been as highly sexed as his partner. Or maybe it could be considered a type of stamina training? Since it WAS Gai-sensei…
(I should hurry- Godaime-sama wanted us in her office by nine this morning.)

“Good morning, Team Gai, Team Kakashi.” Tsunade set aside some paperwork as the two teams entered her office. “Where IS Kakashi?”

“Yo.”

Kakashi was suddenly in the open window, orange book in hand. He leaned casually against the sill for a moment, then walked over to his squad slowly. Lee kept his eyes on his own hands, where he was checking a knot hidden in one of the folds. Neji and Tenten stood beside him calmly, though Tenten looked anywhere but at the long haired brunet. (She must have turned Neji down again.)

“Good- on to business. Consider this an A-rank mission, and keep quiet on the details until you return to Konoha.” Rising, the Godaime circled her desk.

“Baa-chan, you’re too slow! Just tell us all ready!” Naruto slid his hands behind his head, eyes squinting.

Tsunade promptly threw a scroll at him and continued talking despite the drama it caused, leaning back against the desk. “Go to Suna with the utmost haste and report to that sand brat Gaara. It seems they’ve recovered a missing Konoha shinobi, but he needs medical attention and full identification. Sakura, you'll make sure he’s stable enough to transport back here- they reported something wrong with his mind.” She hesitated as Sakura replied with an affirmative, then continued. "If he is who we think he is, then the information he may have retrieved will make him both very valuable and a great risk. There will most likely be enemy shinobi sent to either retrieve or eliminate him."

Neji stepped forward slightly, frowning. “Just who is it we’re retrieving? Surely it's not the Uchiha?”

Naruto whipped around from where he had been sulking on the floor, clutching his abused head. Everyone in the room suddenly seemed to holding their breath in anticipation.

"It's not an Uchiha. There is only a tentative identification of this person, as I said." The blonde ran her fingers through the hair at her left temple as the collective question mark ran through the room.

"With all due respect, that is not an answer, Hokage-sama." Lee stepped up next, eyes trained on his leader. "Who might this person be?"

Brandy colored eyes studied him closely then swung away over the rest of his team mates. "Don't get your hopes up, but Sunagakure may have recovered Maito Gai."

A person could hear a pin drop in the split second of silence. The explosion of noise burst like a balloon, and Lee was quite sure he saw Kakashi's beloved 'Icha Icha Paradise' hit the ground. "Gai-sensei's alive?!"

"Godaime-sama, are you sure?" cried Tenten.

“We have only a tentative ID of the man, so we can’t be sure, I said!” The Godaime barked. “Hell, everything is tentative in this case. That’s why you all are going to keep your mouths SHUT. Suna shinobi recovered him from somewhere north of them and west of Rain in Bird Country, and that is the only definite fact. Now go pack your gear and be gone by noon.” She threw a mission scroll at Kakashi with less force than she had at Naruto.

Tsunade's office was suddenly empty, and she lifted herself to sit on the edge of her desk with a sigh. There was a knock on the door before Shizune entered with a tea set, Tonton making soft happy sounds as she walked ahead of the brunette. "So they're off, Tsunade-sama?"

"Yes. Hopefully they'll bring me back a live MIA nin." She smiled as the tea was laid out beside her. "This might be good news. Gai was one of the few people who could knock some sense into Rock Lee when it came to taking care of his body past training. He's such a pain to keep still when he needs it. Last time he was in the hospital, I let Sakura and Tenten tie him to the bed and yell at him as needed."

"So I recall, Tsunade-sama. Sakura-chan and Tenten-san both have a great pair of lungs." Shizune began to pour green tea into the heavy pottery cups that matched the tea pot. "At least Lee-san has been regularly visiting the massage therapist since then."

"A small consulation."
