Cry Merciful Angel (preview)

A/N: This is just a preview of a story idea, I'd like to get some reviews on it before I decide whether or not I want to continue with it- I've done this before with a couple story ideas (unfortunately I've never gotten a response) Anyway I would really like to get some opinions on this story so please leave a review (and hopefully it doesn't get deleted)

Summary: It's a slightly A/U story, the major plot points will remain about the same as they are in the manga (I prefer the manga to the anime personally is why) I'll probably change some of the less important ones a little bit. This is just something that my imagination came up with, I just was wondering what would happened if I made Naruto a bit more of a three dimensional character (he just seems kind of flat and predictable to me is all). Anyway, read the story and tell me what you think of it so far in a review. Both the good things and the bad, and don't forget to tell me if you want to see more or not.

P.S. The little poem at the beginning is all mine W-S (AKA 24CaratCoal)

Cry my merciful angel
Cry as you take away my soul

Cry my merciful angel
Cry as you take away my strength

Cry my merciful angel
Cry as you take away my sanity

Laugh my merciless angel
Laugh as you take away my life

Laugh my merciless angel
Laugh as you take away my love

Laugh my merciless angel
Laugh as you take away my reason

Dance my guardian angel
Dance as they dress me in my Sunday best

Dance my guardian angel
Dance as I face my one last test

Dance my guardian angel
Dance with me as they lay me down for final rest

No tears remained to fall from blue-grey eyes that stared out at the merciless world he had been given over to, they hated him for reasons beyond what his young mind could grasp. He had learned one thing very well though since he had left the care of the monks, there was no room in the world for innocence. A powerful presence appeared before him in less than the blink of an eye and a chill ran down his tiny spine as those polished red eyes looked down at him, something from deep inside warned him against being too trusting of anyone with those Sharingan eyes.::

“You're very good at hide and seek Naruto-kun.” Itachi laughed as he squated down to the boy's level.

“Is that why you keep cheating?” The young blond asked, touching the skin below Itachi's eyes gently. “I know what these are, they give you an advantage.”

“Yes, you're a very smart boy Naruto.” The Uchiha chuckled. “Did you know I have a brother about your age?”

“Yes, I've seen you when you're with him.” Naruto nodded, causing the teenager's eyebrow to arch curiously. “I've seen the way that you have him come close so you can push him away for whatever reason, why do you do that? All he wants is to spend time with you.”

“Hmm, I'm going to have to keep an eye out for you from now on.” He stated, crossing his arms on his knees. “I have my reasons for what I do Naruto-kun, I do it because it's needed.”

“People say that a lot.” He said, sitting himself down in the dirt. “Usually before they do something bad.”

“You're a little too observant for your own good, did you know that?”Itachi asked as the boy tilted his head slightly to one side. “What's wrong?”

“The man and lady across the street are arguing.” Naruto said, lowering his head before matching their words. “'He's just a child Kenji, leave him be- he's never hurt anyone...' 'It's not a boy Mitsuki, it's a monster that attacked our home once already. It killed our boy, why should I let it live?'”

“I'm sorry Naruto-kun.” The young shinobi whispered.

“Why? You're not the one who put the Kyuubi in me.” The blond said, grabbing the whole of his mentor's attention.

“You know about...” He started.

“Eh, he's why I can't sleep at night.” He nodded.

“Naruto-kun, look into my eyes.” Itachi instructed softly as the tomoe began to rotate slowly in his irises.

~*~*~

He had been so much different since the battle at Tazuna's bridge, he didn't seem like the same person to her at all, Kakashi had attributed it to his first kill but that didn't seem to be what was bothering him. Sakura watched him sitting alone in the corner of the room through half-closed eyes as he stared at the floor at his feet, no trace of his jovial smile that he constantly wore- he would put it back up whenever he knew someone was looking, but it seemed fake to her. His blue-grey eyes shined brightly in the moonlight when he suddenly looked at her and she snapped her eyes fully shut, why was she so nervous about him catching her watching him she wondered. A faint shifting sound was the only thing that told her of his movement before the door to their room was opened and closed, she sat up and looked around the room to see that only Sasuke was still in the room with her, still tucked neatly into his bedroll as his body recovered from being put into a near-death state.::
Her feet tapped lightly on the tatami floor mats when she decided to follow him, Sasuke moaned softly as he rolled over before snuggling up with his pillow- it was kind of cute really. She shook her head to clear it of the distraction, reminding herself what she had gotten up for, it took most of her willpower to resist finding her camera to take a picture of the scene- Ino would hate it with a passion if she did. The door opened easily under her touch and closed just as easily behind her when she finally managed to tear her eyes away from her crush, she used all her stealth training to walk through the halls without making a sound so she didn't accidentally wake anyone up.::
After a few minutes of searching Sakura finally managed to track down her elusive teammate, she hadn't expected it to be so hard to find him in such a cozy little home- he was Naruto after all, the boy who failed the graduation exam three times in a row before their teacher passed him out of sympathy or some such. Naruto was standing in one of the empty second floor bedrooms, staring out vacantly at the starry night skies, even as she hid herself behind the wall Sakura had to admit that the view was stunning to say the least- the reflection of the stars on the water made it look almost like a second sky beneath their feet. Minutes passed by in perfect silence and she found her gaze slowly being attracted from the sky to her teammate, after a few failed attempts to look away she found herself examining him under the pale light of the full moon- for some reason she had never noticed how many scars he had before, and she couldn't help but wonder where he had gotten them all.::

“”Are you going to come out, or are you just going to stand there staring at me all night, Sakura-chan?” Naruto asked in a calm tone that made her skin crawl.

“H-how did you know I was there?” Sakura asked, stepping out from behind the wall as he turned to look at her.

“I could hear you.” He said with a shrug as he turned back to the window, his eyes flashing red for an instant as the light reflected off of them. “How do you deal with it Sakura-chan?”

“Deal with what?” She asked, moving to his side.

“Your anger, and your hatred.” He sighed, leaning against the empty windowsill.

“Like everyone else I guess, why?” She asked, looking over at him.

“When I was young, mine were sealed away by someone I was very close to.” He said, continuing to stare at the ocean like he was trying to memorize every wave it had. “He did it to protect me, not just me but the village as well really, but when we were on the bridge the seal broke.”

“Why would anyone want to seal away your emotions?” She asked, quirking a soft pink eyebrow.

“He did it to protect everyone.” He said as a worried look took over his face. “I can feel them, even now my rage is festering- as I think about what has been done to me, I can't help it. I hate them all.”

“Who?” Sakura asked quietly, suddenly she felt uneasy about standing near him.

“The villagers.” He snarled as his grip tightened, splintering the pine beneath his hands. “I can still hear the adults, huddling together whenever I walked by, whispering insults and muttering curses at me. The other children hate me to, if only because their parents tell them to. 'Don't go near that boy.' They say. 'He's a monster.'”

Sakura could find no words to offer her teammate, she could remember her own father and mother saying something like that to her when she first met him.::

“I didn't ask to be like this!” He snapped as every muscle in his body tensed at once, shattering the wooden frame completely in his before he dropped to his knees and began to cry. “I'm not a monster. I'm not... a... monster.”

“No, you're not.” Sakura whispered into his ear as she gently put her arms around his shoulder, pulling him into her shoulder when she was down at his level. “You're not a monster.”
