Reflection of the One I Love

Well hello. I am going a bit outside of my norm with this one. It's LeeNaru. I wrote it for a contest over on Y. There are two reasons that Hinata is the bitch in this fic.

1) She is obsessed with Naruto the way many stalkers are. Most stalkers when faced with the reality that object of their obsession will never return their affection become viciously violent towards not only the person they're obsessed with but also anyone that the object of their affection might be involved with.

2) Sakura and Ino are overdone.

That being said, I don't want to hear any complaints about Hinata not snapping the way I depict. Insanity is a very unpredictable thing and no matter how sweet a person is normally when they snap there is no way of determining how they'll snap. Yes she's sweet and kind but she's also a ninja, her entire life has been surrounded by violence and death, it is not entirely out of the realm of possibility for her to go medieval on Naruto's ass.

Lee was walking down the path between training ground 3 and training ground 5 when he heard a scream from training ground 3. Normally that wouldn't have been enough to make the taijutsu master pause, he was beside training areas and screams while training weren't out of the ordinary after all, but there was such an underlying, soul deep pain in this scream that the dark haired man felt compelled to investigate.

When the clearing came into view Lee felt the breath leave his body at the scene before him. Naruto was curled into a miserable ball on the ground, holding his stomach and standing over him, sneering down at the blond was Hinata of all people. The Hyuga heiress spat on the fox vessel, "You're disgusting! I can't believe I ever cared for a monster such as you. I think I'll do the village a favor and rid us of your presence."

Lee's eyes widened as Hinata took out a kunai and plunged it down towards Naruto. The dark haired boy ran forward as fast as he could and managed to grasp Hinata's wrist just before the blade struck. He narrowed his eyes at the girl, "Hinata-san what do you think you are doing?"

She yanked her wrist out of his grip and spat, "I'm getting rid of this foul, disgusting, thing that dares to masquerade as a human being. It's revolting and should be destroyed."

The taijutsu specialist gaped at her in surprise, "Hinata-san I can not believe I am hearing such unyouthfulness come out of your mouth. What would my Eternal Rival say if he saw you?"

Hinata's flush of anger faded and her face went gray at the mention of Neji. Her cousin was almost rabidly protective of Naruto. If he found out she'd tried to kill the blond, he would kill her regardless of the caged bird seal.

Lee gave her a stern look, "Leave Naruto alone from now on and I will consider not informing Neji of your most unyouthful actions."

She gulped and nodded before dashing away like a scared rabbit when he released her wrist.

Lee crouched down next to the fallen blond, "Naruto-kun?"

The Uzumaki focused on Lee's face, "B-bushy Brows?"

The brunette nodded, "Here my friend, let me help you up."

Lee reached out to grasp the jinchuurikii's shoulders but stopped when Naruto raised a hand, "I appreciate it but Hinata broke a couple ribs and I'd rather not move until the fox heals them."

The young taijutsu master gaped a bit at that then moved a hand to Naruto's side to see how bad it was.

Naruto lay still as the brunette cautiously probed to inspect the damage and set the ribs. He had no problem trusting Lee to poke at him without causing more damage. Naruto was one of the few outside of Team Gai who knew that Lee had extensive medical training. The green clad chunin had taken civilian MD courses whenever not on a mission because Gai felt it was a good idea for someone on his team to know how to handle injuries beyond basic first aid. Neither TenTen nor Neji were medically inclined so Lee had volunteered.

Lee's face took on a sober cast as he felt the broken ribs and moved them back into a proper position for healing. He pressed on Naruto's abdomen, frowning when the blond winced and the flesh didn't give. The brunette carefully moved Naruto to his back, unzipped the orange jacket, and pulled up the black undershirt to reveal the blond's abdomen. Lee scowled at the black bruising that was all over the blond's belly.

"Naruto-kun you have internal bleeding."

The jinchuurikii let out a pained chuckle, "So that's why Kyuubi's bitching so much."

"We must get you to a medic nin my friend."

Naruto looked at Lee's face, "You should be serious more often Lee, it looks good on you," Lee looked at Naruto in startlement at those words and the blond spoke again, "Lee Kyuubi will heal me. It's just gonna take longer than it usually does. I'll live and I don't want Sakura-chan or Baa-chan to know about this. They'd go ballistic on Hinata and since she's the heiress of her clan they'd get in trouble."

Lee's prodigious brows knit in concern, "How long will it take for the fox to heal you?"

"About twenty-four hours. If it was just the ribs I'd be fine in two."

The taijutsu specialist nodded, re-zipped Naruto's jacket to keep the blond warm, and settled down to sit beside his injured friend.

"You don't have to hang around Lee."

"You are my friend Naruto and I do not leave my friends alone when they are in pain."

The blond smiled, "I really wish you'd been in my age group Lee, then we could have been friends sooner."

"We would have made quite the team."

"Mmm-hmm."

They fell silent and Lee's mind went back over Naruto's earlier comment about being serious looking good on him. He wondered if the blond meant that it made him attractive or if he just thought it was pleasant change from his constant hyper-activity.

Naruto watched the emotions flit across Lee's face, curiosity, hope, and disappointment. He tapped Lee on the thigh, "Never play poker Lee, you'd get taken for everything you have with your face."

Lee blinked down at his friend, "Huh?"

"Your face shows every emotion you're feeling at the time. Is that why you're always on the move? You don't want others to see what you're feeling?"

The brunette gaped in surprise at Naruto's insight but before he could say anything the blond smiled, "Don't worry Lee, I won't tell anyone. Why do you think I'm always 'happy' and grinning?"

Lee examined Naruto's quiet expression. For once the tanned face was relaxed and allowing the blond's feelings of frustration and weariness with the world to show. There was also resignation to his lot in life but overlaying it all was a soft contentment. Naruto closed his eyes, "It's nice having someone I can relax around."

Lee smiled for moment before his features turned down again as something occurred to him, "Naruto-kun?"

"Hmm?"

"Why did Hinata-san attack you?"

Naruto winced a bit then sighed, "She called me here to confess how she felt about me but I told her that I couldn't return her feelings because I'm gay and she just snapped."

Lee's eyes widened, "You prefer the same sex as well?"

Naruto's eyes snapped open, revealing his electric blue gaze, "What did you- Lee you too?"

The brunette blushed a bit but nodded, "Yes."

The blond's mouth quirked,"Let me guess you went after Sakura for camouflage."

The older chunin nodded, "Yes. You did the same?"

"I figured she was safest, too crazy over Sasuke to ever accept anyone else."

"It appears we have more in common than we thought."

Naruto hummed, "Soooo have you ever, ya know?"

"Yes you?"

"Once."

"Who?"

"Promise to keep it to yourself?"

"I swear."

"Kakashi-sensei. It was after the second time I failed to bring the bastard back. What about you?"

Lee cleared his throat, "Once with Neji, we were...exploring."

"Gaara-san."

Naruto gaped, "Whoa. I had Gaara pegged as straight."

"You were half right."

Lee chuckled a bit. Naruto poked the green clad ninja, "So is Gaara an ongoing thing or...?"

The dark head shook, "No we agreed that it would not be a good idea to continue. He and I are far too divided, not only by distance but personal beliefs."

The blond fiddled with a string on his jacket, "You interested in anyone?"

The taijutsu specialist's cheeks reddened as he glanced shyly at the blond, "Perhaps. What of you Naruto-kun? Is there anyone you would like to have as a lover?"

Naruto nodded, "There's this one guy. A lot of people think he's kind of a nut, over-zealous, and has the worst fashion sense but I like him. He's got a heart of gold, guts to spare, is just as determined as I am, and loves animals and kids. Most people think he's not much to look at but they're just looking at his extremes and not the whole package and the whole package is very very attractive if not what most people consider conventional beauty. He's very strong too even though the odds have been stacked against him. He's a little too fond of his sensei but it's kind of cute once you get used to it."

Lee swallowed at the description recognizing the traits Naruto described as his own. 'Is it really possible? Could Naruto-kun actually return my interest in him?' Going for broke Lee asked, "W-what does he look like?"

Naruto chuckled, "Well he's got big black eyes with some of the longest lashes I've ever seen, a perfect cupid's bow mouth, shiny black hair, and the second biggest set of eyebrows in the village," the blond met Lee's eyes, "What about your potential love interest Lee? What's he look like?"

Lee's cheeks were flaming but his lips were curling up into a smile as he pulled something out of his pocket and held it in front of Naruto, "This is the one I am interested in Naruto-kun."

Naruto laughed happily as the mirror Lee held reflected his whiskered face back at him. The blond took the mirror from Lee, "Hmm that interesting," he held the mirror up to Lee's face, "there's the guy I like."

Lee smiled at his reflection and took the mirror back to put it up. He reached out and fingered a lock of sunshine blond hair, "Naruto-kun would you like to have dinner with me tomorrow?"

"Yeah, I'll look forward to it. Now I'm gonna take a nap while Kyuubi works on healing me."

The taijutsu specialist moved so that Naruto's head was in his lap, "Sleep well Naruto-kun, I will be here when you awake."

Naruto's features scrunched a bit then his eyes opened as he woke up. The first thing that met his gaze was Lee's face and he smiled a bit. The older teen had fallen asleep while watching over Naruto and was leaning over him. Yesterday's conversation came back to him with utter clarity as he studied Lee's face. He was amazed that the boy he'd been harboring feelings for was equally interested in him. Naruto smile widened as his eyes traced Lee's features. He knew that Lee was not and never would be what people typically called handsome but the brunette's face just drew Naruto for some reason, especially when Lee was concentrating on something or totally relaxed as he was now. Not to mention that Naruto knew that underneath the green jumpsuit was one of the best bodies in the shinobi nations. The blond grinned as he thanked heaven for onsens. Lee's eyes widened and he snapped to full awareness, "What is wrong? Did the fox have trouble with something?"

Naruto shook his head, "Nah, I'm all healed but there's a little issue I'm having."

Lee relaxed and tilted his head in question, "What is that?"

He felt that it was in both his and Lee's best interest if he told Hiashi about Hinata's attack. He knew that the Hyuga clan head might not believe him and he didn't want to cause Hinata any trouble but he wanted to be sure that he and Lee would be safe from any attacks from her.

"What is this about?"

"Yesterday Hinata approached me and-"

The blond nodded, "But I can't return them and when I told her why she attacked me."

The elder Hyuga's eyes widened in shock and he swiftly activated his Byakugan to monitor Naruto's vital signs, in case the boy was lying.

Naruto raised a hand to rub the back of his neck, "I really don't want to get Hinata in trouble but...there's a guy who I've been interested in for a while now and he returns my interest. I'm worried that Hinata might try and harm him."

Hiashi frowned, "I find it difficult to believe that Hinata would persist in her anger towards you much less take it out on another person. It is not like my daughter to hold a grudge."

"I know but I'm still worried."

The Hyuga nodded, "Very well, I will make sure an eye is kept on her."

Naruto stood and bowed deeply, "Thank you Hiashi-sama."

As the blond left he felt relief knowing that he'd been believed by Hiashi and that Hinata would be watched. He smiled as he dashed home to get ready for his date with Lee. He was looking forward to getting closer to the taijutsu specialist.
