How did this happen?
~~Shifts... So. I'm back. From the depths of hell, I have arrived once again to write. But, really, (It wasnt hell be a different country for an archaeological dig.) No Internet, no phones, no nothing. And then I got back and had finals and all sorts of shit went down, but i have re edited this, and am ready to move on! Lets get the ball rollin, shall we?
~~~~~~~~~~
The chains clinked as he shifted his arms. The sound echoed thorough out the cell.
How did this happen?
It wasn't supposed to be like this!
He winced as the raw flesh of his wrist tore open again. Slowly, he rotated his arm in the cuff, flexing his hand. His arms had gone numb days ago, but he wanted to make sure they got some movement.
How did it happen?
…
It was over so quickly. Just last week their positions had been reversed. He had been free. Free to do as he wished, and then… then what? That happened.
He wasn't supposed to be there, that’s how. He was supposed to be gone!
His ears caught the soft fall of footsteps. He paused, resetting his arms into a ‘comfortable’ position, and waited. He was coming. The slow, soft footsteps told him that it was him this time. He didn’t want to see him. To look at him. To be anywhere near him!
His face fell into an emotionless mask, eyes going blank, and rested his chin against his chest. He was chained to a wall, (a disgusting, damp, slimy wall!) hands above his head, collar around his neck, legs chained to the floor. A sitting position that allowed him little freedom. He waited. The footsteps stopped, in front of his barred door, and they, too, were waiting.
He felt intense eyes staring at him, boring a hole into the top of his head. Just like he had done last week. Waiting. Did he think this was some kind of game? Some kind of stupid, sick, perverse game?!
“How did it end up like this?”
“…..”
“I asked you a question… dobe.”
Naruto inwardly flinched, but he kept his face blank.
“Weren’t you in my position just a few days ago?”
He clenched his jaw, refusing to answer. It was rhetorical, anyway. It’s not like he wanted an answer…
Naruto could practically feel the smirk on Sasuke’s face. He slowly raised his head, face impassive, and stared.
“Tell me, dobe, what do you think is going to happen?”
“Why?”
Sasuke frowned a little. That was obviously not the answer he wanted.
“Why did you kill her? Them? Why wouldn’t you kill me, Sasuke? You had the chance, you should have killed me!” Naruto’s voice came out rasping. Dehydrated, and underused, it felt like iron grating in his throat.
There. That micro expression on Sasuke’s face. The small smile. He was happy? Happy about what? The chance to kill him, but not? The chance to gloat? To… what?
“Oh Naruto…” Naruto shivered at the way he purred his name. “Why would I kill you? Hmmm? Why kill you when I have soo many plans for you…” Sasuke’s eyes slid to half-mast, a small malicious smile curving his lips. He leaned forward, threading his arms through the bars.
“You killed… Orochimaru. You killed Itachi. You could have just come back! Come back with Sakura and I. You… You could have! They would have welcomed you back! We missed you, I missed you! You could have… have… come back to us…” Naruto’s voice faded at the end. He had lost the battle with his eyes, and a small trail of crystal tears had leaked out the side. His face was no longer passive, but raw with emotion. The pain, sorrow, guilt and hurt. And Sasuke seemed to be relishing in it.
“So why? Why invade? Why kill Tsunade, Sakura, Kakashi, Iruka!? Everyone I cared about… everyone that cared about you… Why?!”
“I needed to. I had to. I wanted to.”
Naruto froze. He wanted to?
“This village,” Sasuke spat the word ‘village’ as if it was a disgusting taste on his tongue, “they betrayed me. Took everything from me. I hate them, and you should too. They took your life away, and those people that said they loved you, it was all a lie. They need you as a weapon. And as for your ‘friends’ they were the ones that said they cared for you the most. They would have been the strongest in opposing me taking over as Hokage. But mostly,” Sasuke paused, his lip curling, eyes glistening, “They would have fought to get you back.” Naruto frowned.
What? Get him back? Why? His confusion must have shown on his face because Sasuke smirked.
“They cared for you, dobe. They would have made a fuss about me imprisoning you. About the… plans I have for you.”
“Plans?” Naruto whispered.
“Oh yes, many plans. But first, tell me, Naruto, How do you think it ended up like this?”
Blond brows scrunched together, remembering his simple mission… the last one Tsunade would ever give him… Pain coursed through his heart, clenching and clawing at it. No, this wasn’t the time for that.
How did this happen…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was a simple in and out mission. Grab the scroll’s and get the hell out of there. It was a relatively safe solo mission, so Tsunade had sent him out. It wasn’t anywhere near where Sasuke had last been spotted, or where the last of the Akatsuke members had been, so he went alone.
ANBU. Oh yeah, he was in ANBU now. Had been for at least a year, and he was only 18. Kyuubi had merged with him, giving him a more feral look. Darker eyes, red streaks in his shoulder length blond hair, deeper whisker marks. It made his senses stronger also, his body more resilient, his mind quicker.
So he had snuck into the castle, silent, nearly invisible, covering his chakra so that nothing could sense him, and grabbed the scroll’s. Then, as he was making his way out, that’s when the shit hit the fan. He heard voices talking… about Konaha. He paused. It was from a door at the end of the hall, cracked open slightly, sending a weak light into the darkness around it.
“Are you sure?” Said the first voice. It was nasally and high.
“Konaha has to be taken down. They don’t deserve to stay as they are. It’s too powerful, and as it stands now, it will be in your best interest to take it over.” That voice… It slithered up Naruto’s spine, chilling him to the bone. It was, undoubtedly, Sasuke’s voice.
“But why us?” came the panicked response, “Why ask us to help?”
“….just a moment…”
The attack came swiftly, katana slicing the wall in front of Naruto’s face. Naruto realized his mistake too late. For a split second, in his shock, he had let a trace of his chakra out. Sasuke must have sensed him… He retreated, jumping back and flipping, avoiding the horizontal slice that came next. Landing softly on his feet, Naruto avoided the incoming blows, one after the other. Sasuke moving forward, Naruto dodging backwards.
He was waiting. Waiting for the moment where he could…THERE! Naruto caught the blade in his hands, palms together, rotating them to the left and pulled forward. Sasuke was caught off guard, hands still gripping the katana, and was pulled towards Naruto. Recalculating the position in his mind, Sasuke released the sword, and jumped back.
Naruto thrust the blade into the ground, almost to the hilt, and kicked the handle. The blade snapped, leaving only the handle and 3 inches of blade.
This gave Sasuke pause, His eyes swirling intensely, mouth tugged down into a small frown.
Interesting.
Then, in a split second, they were both powered up, rushing madly towards one another clashing….
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hot breath on his face brought him back to reality. The memory had flashed through his mind, taking less than a few seconds, but that was all Sasuke needed to throw the door open and move into the cell, and into Naruto’s personal space.
Naruto froze, his body not used to having another’s so close. Like, inches close. Sasuke’s face was less than an inch away from him, knees on either side of Naruto’s outstretched ones. His tattered mesh shirt and torn pants couldn’t keep Sasuke’s body heat out. Slowly, Sasuke’s eyes never leaving Naruto’s, he brought his hands to bound one’s, and let his fingertips drift across the open wound. Blood had been sluggishly pouring out of his wrists, leaving rivulets’ of blood down arms and chest alike. Naruto flinched. With most of his skin gone the muscle was exposed, with ragged flesh from his arm and hand above and below the chakra cuff, it was left to fend for itself.
The hands drifted lower, through dirty hair, across the whisker marks, and to the neck. Sasuke smirked and gripped the collar, pulling him forward into a forced kiss. Chapped lips met soft ones, and Naruto’s eyes widened.
No Way. No WAY. NO WAY!
What the HELL was he doing?!
Sasuke watched the emotions flash across Naruto’s face and smirked into the kiss. Then Naruto started to resist. He squirmed, pulling against his restraint and moved his face to the side.
“Teme! What the hell are you…”
SMACK!
Sasuke had backhanded him across the face. Naruto’s head was turned, eyes wide.
“You WON’T resist me. You won’t talk back. And you will learn…” Naruto looked at Sasuke, eyes wide. Sasuke’s eyes looked… so malicious… so cold… insane.
“Oh yes, you will learn.” Sasuke Grabbed Naruto’s hair by the roots, pulling him forward so that his arms were strained backwards, his collar pulled to its furthest length, choking him.
“Agh! Stop! What!?” Sasuke crashed his lips down onto Naruto’s with bruising force, ripping at his lips with his teeth until they parted. He could taste Naruto’s blood. So sweet. So warm. Yes , this is what he wanted.
With one hand in Naruto’s hair, he used the other to grasp his jaw, forcing it to stay open so that he could explore Naruto’s mouth. The warm cavern that tasted of honey and fire.
Naruto’s face scrunched in displeasure, lungs burning for air. His shoulders ached at being pulled backwards into an unnatural position, his neck burned from the collar ripping into the soft flesh. His hands were contorted from being pulled by the cuffs and his jaw and lips pulsed with pain.
Sasuke withdrew, and released Naruto. He fell back against the wall, coughing and gasping for breath, and looked up at Sasuke with something new in his eyes. Because he knew what the next step was going to be.
Sasuke looked down at Naruto, panting, blushing. He stood up slowly and began to undo his bow.
“You will learn, Naruto.” Sasuke finally brought his eyes to Naruto’s and he felt the blood rush south. There was something new in Naruto’s eyes.
Fear.
