Growing Impatient

Note: This is my second Naruto fan fic, it does not follow the story line again, that is the point of a fan fiction. The perspectives are done very differently than anything I've done before, so if you like it let me know. another thing...I know I didn't include the trademark stutter, because I hear it as I'm reading in my head and it makes it hard for me to read if I make the stutter happen myself...though I might rewrite if you all protest.

Waking...why does my head hurt so bad, What happened? I try to open my eyes everything is a blur, but after a minute everything comes into focus, Kiba and Shino are standing over me, asking me if I'm alright. "what happened" I asked trying to sit up, every muscle hurt.

"You nearly got yourself killed Hinata, what the hell were you thinking" Kiba sounded angry.

I tried to remember what had happened I remembered fighting. The enemy was strong, the attacks seemed to come from every direction, I felt a sharp pain in my side, I looked down to see the Kunai sticking out, about an inch of the blade embedded into me just below the last set of ribs, I focused hard activating my Byukugen, I could barely keep up with his movements even with my eyes, this guy would make even Lee jealous when it came to speed.

I turned trying to keep track of him, another sharp pain to the arm I couldn't keep up, it seemed like the Kunai were coming from everywhere I decided to use my own jutsu, I started forming the chakra blades slowly at first, soon though I was inside of a net of chakra blades deflecting all of the incoming Kunai. This was bad, I was getting low on chakra and holding this jutsu wasn't helping that any. I hoped Shino and Kiba would show up soon I was supposed to distract this guy while they made sure that the artifact we were protecting was safely hidden then they were supposed to be back to help me fight this guy. where were they, what was taking them so long.

I felt myself waver I hoped that the enemy didn't notice it. If he knew I was running out of chakra I was sure that this would all be over in an instant if he attacked harder than he had been, a wave of exhaustion came over me, I could tell it was over, I could feel my eyes closing then I heard someone scream my name. The next thing that I remembered was waking up here to an angry Kiba and Shino, impassive as always.

I broke through the trees Just in time to see Hinata collapse, this was bad she was defenseless and judging by the looks of this place this guy would see to it she didn't live much longer, the fight must have been brutal, I had to protect her.

I charged in trying to avert the mans attention, it seemed to be working. Shino showed up just behind me, while I was distracting him he unleashed his bugs which flew off to either side and circled around the battle to be behind our openent, I threw some Kunai hoping that he would jump back and it worked, but when the man jumped he didn't get far Shino's bugs caught him in mid air, biting the man as well as lifting him up a good distance then forcing him into the ground at high speed, I cringed a bit when the guy hit, that must have hurt like hell, He started to stand again but Akamaru hit him from behind and I charged while he was still dazed from Akamaru and kicked him firmly in the face the man flew backwards about 5 yards before crashing to the ground in a heap. I felt luck the guy was probably already worn out from fighting with Hinata I mean she did hold him off for a long time while we got the artifact we were transporting a good ways from him. Still when she got up she was going to get a piece of my mind for making me worry like that I get back and shes collapsing in the middle of the fight, nearly getting herself killed? oh yea, she was gonna hear it alright.

"The ramen was great old man" I said as I left the money on the counter of Ichiraku Ramen. I ran toward training field seven, it had been a while since I'd had time to train between missions, this would be fun I thought, It didn't take long to get to the training field, I didn't know what I was going to do for a start. I had learned a lot those two years with Jariya-sensei so I decided to start with some of the training routines that he had made me do over those two years.

*8 hours later*

I was worn out and tired, The day was almost over so I decided to walk around the town, soon I would go and find a nice high place with a good view that overlooked the city, I did miss doing that, I had only done it once since I had gotten back months ago though. I walked toward the front gates to see who had guard detail, Shikamaru sat there with another shinobi I wasn't exactly well acquainted with I couldn't even remember the guys name, I was about to call out to Shikamaru to greet him when I saw people in the distance coming toward the main gate, they were walking slowly, I recognized them, That was Shino, Kiba, and Hinata, though she looked hurt, she was holding her side with one hand, the other arm was over Kiba's shoulder helping her to walk, I wonder what happened.

I ran out to them, Shikamaru standing and almost saying something before looking and seeing them himself, I'm not sure bit I think I heard him say something like "how troublesome" under his breath before following me to the group of roughed up Shinobi we called our friends.

"Hinata are you okay" I asked concerned as I would be for any of my friends.

"Of course she's not" Kiba growled "Does she look okay to you, we are taking her to the hospital"

I didn't know why he was so angry all of the time. "Do you need any help carrying her you look tired I can help her the rest of the way"

"I think we can handle it Naruto, but I think she's got some broken ribs, Could you tell lady Tsunade that we are back?" Kiba sounded agitated still but I nodded and immediately headed for the hokages tower.

I heard knocking at the door, it had been a quiet day I wondered who could want to see me. "Come in" I spoke loudly so I was sure that they heard me. I had a lot of paperwork to do still but I never minded if someone wanted to take my mind off it a bit. I looked up to see Naruto panting in the doorway holding the door frame for balance. "What's wrong Naruto"

"Kiba sent me to tell you they need you at the hospital, Hinata's really banged up" Naruto sounded worried, I knew the doctors were well capable of doing their jobs, but the rookie 9 seemed to call me to help if the injuries were serious, I stood up I think it showed on my face I was a little worried. Like I said they called me when it was serious.

We got to the hospital only a couple of minutes later, they we immediately searched and found the room Hinata had been assigned and I took the clipboard that contained hinata's paperwork, they had done some minor examinations, but upon request of the patients waited for me to administer treatment, I walked over to Hinata doing an examination of her ribs myself, they were bruised and a couple broken, though her organs where damaged. I set quickly about patching up her ribs, and mending them after I finished I looked over to Kiba who was sitting the expression he wore screamed that he was concerned about Hinata's wellbeing, Naruto's wasn't much better, Shino...well Shino was himself even I couldn't tell what he was thinking most of the time, underneath his shades. "She'll be alright, she was pretty badly hurt, but her internal organs were uninjured, and I've mended the broken ribs, she should be better in a couple of days." They all took a relieved sigh, except Shino, I just sat there like normal, sitting up a bit when I had spoken but no real reaction.

"I'm glad she's gonna be alright" Naruto looked relieved that boy really cared for his friends they meant the world to him. I would have to take a bit of time when I left here to talk to him, I cared for him like a little brother, I also knew that there was something that I should talk to him about.

"Naruto, Come with me I'd like to talk to you for a bit" It was more a command than asking though I liked it better that was, more people listened.

"Naruto, Come with I'd like to talk to you for a bit" Lady Tsunade made everything sound like an order, I was curious though what she would need to talk about, usually our conversations were random when I showed up at her office at all hours, sometimes out of boredom, a lot of time though it was later after I'd tried to sleep and found I couldn't and she was the only person I knew that was awake at all hours of the night, usually though she didn't ask me to talk unless there was a mission or something.

I followed her out of the room we walked in silence for a bit then finally "Let's go back to my office, this isn't the most important thing I can think of and I don't really need to talk about it this instant, but it gives me something to do instead of paperwork, and I'd like to get it off my mind.

I was curious yea, as anyone would be but I nodded and we continued back to the Hokage's tower, this place was almost like my second, home I was here almost as much as I was at home. we walked up to Tsunade's office, during the walk we had talked about pointless things, like what kinds of ramen were best, and I threw in a few comments here and there about Jiriya and her just to get reactions out of her, No matter how old I was getting teasing people never got old. She motioned for me to sit and I complied. she sat on her desk then finally after thinking for a moment she asked me a question I completely wasn't expecting.

"What do you think of Hinata?"

"I-I don't know really, why would you ask me something like that?" I was confused as hell now I didn't know what she was getting out though I was hoping she would explain.

"Well I know that she isn't about to say anything, ever notice that she is always so nice to you, even before anyone else was, I know you think of Iruka as your first friend and that may be true, but Hinata has been...well she had tried to tell you and failed a few times, waited years for you to come back to tell you and still hasn't and I'm sick of waiting for her to do it, so Naruto, Hinata has a crush on you."

"WHATTTT!!!!!!!!" I didn't know what to think I mean Hinata was cute, in a weird kinda way, she always blushed and stuttered and she fainted a lot, but all in all she was a great person, she was nice, and sincere, cared for all of her friends. I didn't know what to think though, Hinata? Liked me? This had to be some kinda joke

"Tsunade You're kidding right?" I asked kinda nervously

"No I'm not kidding Now will you answer the damn question, what do you think of Hinata"

"She's nice, a bit on the quiet side, Kinda weird cuz she blushes all the time, and faints a lot, and stutters, but that doesn't change the fact, she's nice to everyone and a good person."

"is that all?"

"Well..." My voice got quiet "She is kinda cute too"

Tsunade laughed at me for a moment before talking again "I would advise you either think about it, or talk to me about this some more, and when you decide what you want to do talk to me and we will plan something out."

"what do you mean when I decide what I want to do about it?"

"When you decide if you are gonna pursue Hinata or not, and how you are going to go about it...you know Naruto, sometimes you really are a knucklehead."

I though for a minute then looked up at Tsunade and smiled, she was the closest thing I had to a mother so I decided after a moment that I would talk through everything with her, and when we finished see what I wanted to do. I didn't have much experience with women though so maybe she could help me approach this. I mean the only experience I had was Sakura's many rejections.

We talked the entire night away the next thing I knew I was falling asleep and Tsunade was laughing at me for it then after another minute there was nothing.
