Chapter 1
Experiment
He held one hand protectively beneath the round expanse of his stomach, watching with narrowed blue eyes as Kabuto cleaned up after another set of examinations.
“Your child is forming well Naruto-kun, two more months and we shall see the fruit of Orochimaru’s future." Kabuto's smile was more at home on the face of a jackal eyeing a lamb. “You can return to your room now."
hat, no armed escort?" Naruto growled, heaving himself awkwardly off the examination table. Kabuto's eyes were blank windows above his faux smile.
Chapter 1
“No need, Naruto-kun, I feel it is unlikely that you would risk your child."
Kabuto's cheerful reply made Naruto want to punch the smug bastard in his face, but his chances for such actions had evaporated along with a growing waistline. The little present around his neck didn't help either. The Chakra nullifier sat heavy around Naruto’s neck, a constant reminder of his helplessness.
He didn't bother to continue the verbal sparring; it was pointless and only made Naruto's blood pressure rise and the kid inside him to start jumping about.
He could feel the malevolent stare on his back as he left, and the knowledge of being Kabuto's new favored lab rat sat like a molten stone in Naruto's stomach.
Six months, six months since he had awoken in this god forsaken hellhole, collared like a dog and trapped in Orochimaru’s little snake maze . The Chakra collar cut him off from his ability to mould Chakra and a handy cocktail of drugs had kept him half conscious as Kabuto and Orochimaru did with his body as they wished.
How he had ended up as Orochimaru’s covenant broodmare was still foggy in his mind, though it seemed Sasuke had been the all too tempting bait.
All questions as to why he of all the ninja’s available was chosen or whose child he carried, was always answered with Kabuto’s blank stare and chilling smile.
“God, I hope you’re not that snake bastard’s, you’ll have enough issues just being my kid."
He grumbled as he shuffled down the endless maze of reddish brown walls, fingers trailing against the pattern of lines.
There was a heave and the sharp press of a tiny foot against his hand as Naruto pressed against the swell of his abdomen. He pressed back and the foot kicked at his palm.
"Heh. Doesn’t matter who your other dad is, all that matters is that you’re mine."
He fought away the sudden clenching fear of what exactly Orochimaru’s plan for his baby would be. Or if Naruto’s usefulness to the snake sannin would end with the infant’s birth.
“We’re gonna get out of here, I promise." He murmured, pausing in the half lit darkness.
There was a flicker at the corner of his eye, but he found nothing behind him but darkness broken sporadically by candlelight. Nothing unusual, he had felt someone following him since he was first allowed to wonder through the underground complex freely.
Whomever, or whatever it was had never shown any intent to harm or help him, so he had come to mostly ignore it. If there was anyone else in the complex, they were kept away from Naruto’s wing, and any attempts to search for Sasuke had only brought him into a maze of endless corridors until Kabuto or one of his lackeys found him and brought him back to his rooms.
“Sasuke doesn’t like to be bothered, it’s best you just forget about him and concentrate on yourself." Kabuto had said after the ninth time of locating Naruto in the underground maze.
It had been Naruto’s increasing bulk and sore feet that had discontinued the search however. It seemed Kyuubi’s healing powers weren’t hampered by the collar, it was, and perhaps the only way whatever modifications Kabuto had done to make a pregnancy possible was sustained. In two months, he would be finding out how this kid was going to make it into the world. It was something Naruto tried not to think closely about. Feeling tired and hungry, Naruto slowly ambled to his room, still talking quietly to his stomach.
Kabuto felt the tension the moment he walked into Orochimaru’s main chamber. Nearby, Sasuke sat in the darkness, unconcerned with Orochimaru’s amused and somewhat coveting gaze. The set of the Uchiha's broadening shoulders screamed his irritation however.
“Ahh. Kabuto. What news of my most promising experiment?"
Kabuto shot a quick look at Orochimaru’s apprentice and future body. The boy had grown into a fine figure, a handsome creature as well as powerful. It suited Orochimaru’s vanity.
“It is going well Orochimaru-sama. The child is healthy, and its Chakra patterns point strongly to the possibility that he will share his sire's sharingan abilities."
If the Uchiha had been a cat, his fur would be on end. The gleam of a dark eye could be seen as the dark head turned to stare malevolently back at Kabuto.
“Two more months and it will be time. However, I am uncertain as to how well the mother will handle the birth. . . or what you wish for me to do with him afterwards. . . "
“If he survives the birth, he may come into usefulness again . . . he is the only one to survive the experiment so far, and it will be hard to find another with such an unlimited pool of Chakra."
There was sudden movement as Sasuke stood abruptly.
“I’m going to train." Came the monotone growl, before Sasuke dissolved into the darkness. Kabuto watched his departure with a raised eyebrow.
“Is Sasuke-kun growing a little restless with his impending fatherhood?" Kabuto turned to the smiling features of his master.
“I promised him that the Uchiha line would be nurtured and continued even after he surrendered his body to me. And I will possess an unlimited supply of talented bodies in the future."
The oily grin widened across the snake sannin’s chalk pale features. His eyes glowed with anticipation. Kabuto turned to gaze back the way Sasuke had gone.
“I suppose everyone gets what they want then."
Naruto spent most of his time in bed, or the tiny garden just outside his room. Fed by a hole in the ceiling of the complex, it was a bit of light and air into a relatively dimly lit world. Kabuto had said sunlight was important in the continuing health of any creature. Naruto hadn't argued, though it had somewhat rubbed him wrong having an escape route so close yet unable to gather the chakra to make the jump towards freedom. He was certain that Kabuto had himself a grand chuckle over it whenever he left Naruto there.
Today however, the bed looked good. Clad in soft robes that didn't hinder his comfort or girth, all he had to do was roll into bed (on his back) and put his aching feet up. However, it was then that the loneliness would settle in.
No one to talk to, no one to take comfort in… So he talked to the baby, told him stories, mostly of how someday it would be the son or daughter of the greatest Hokage ever known.
He told it about Sakura, and Iruka sensei, Kakashi and his fellow ninja friends. Sometimes it helped, knowing that they might be out there, looking for him.
He had lapsed into silence, half asleep, when a soft touch woke him. He turned his head expecting to find Kabuto only to find himself staring into the red glow of the Sharingan, He only managed a startled " Sasuk-" Before the red flared and all he knew was darkness.
Sasuke stared down at Naruto's unconscious form, face unreadable, however his eyes widened some when Naruto’s belly shifted and moved, rippling and bumping.
Placing a pale, long fingered hand onto the shifting surface, he could feel the firm movements of the child within. His child. The newest Uchiha and future of his clan. Real and alive beneath his palms.
Naruto’s face was soft with sleep and the roundness of pregnancy, his bright golden hair longer and brighter than before.
He looked. . . But Sasuke cut the thought before it had time to gain life. If he wanted his clan to continue as more than a farm for Orochimaru’s future bodies, he had to get Naruto out now. Crouching, he lifted the slumbering form of his former best friend and moved towards the oculus lighting the garden.
