Note: This is a songfic inspired by the song “Return to me” by, October/November project. Check them out they’re awesome. Anyway, I feel this song fits Naruto and Sasuke perfectly. This fic will be taking place during Shippuden when Naruto is trying to find Sasuke. There will be flashbacks of their time together and Naruto’s thoughts mostly. Hope you enjoy.

Naruto sat silently in the wooden ‘house’ that Captain Yamato had created for them. He looked over to his right to see Sai and Sakura already asleep. He figured it was probably about two in the morning. Yamato was probably off somewhere trying to gather information. Naruto couldn’t help but think about Sasuke when he was up at the wee hours of the morning. He couldn’t sleep well lately and he kept having dreams of his Sasuke. He dreamt about the love they used to share and the times they spent together. Not very many people knew that they had been a couple. They decided early on in the relationship to try and keep it on a low profile; at least until they both felt comfortable enough to tell others. Seeing as how the villagers didn’t really approve of a homosexual relationship, especial someone as high standing as Sasuke being with the demon fox container. He still couldn’t figure out what happened to make Sasuke leave. He knew Sasuke was bent on revenge and reviving his clan, but he thought that Sasuke would at least try a different approach before going all out and leaving the village, and most importantly him. He thought back to the first time Sasuke had told Naruto that he loved him. That action was followed by their first time. It was amazing and quite unexpected on Naruto’s part. They had been together for about two months before hand. Naruto closed his eyes and let the images and memories wash over him.

Flashback

Sasuke carefully climbed in through Naruto’s bedroom window. He knew he didn’t have to be particularly quiet since Naruto was a pretty heavy sleeper. It was about three in the morning as the youngest Uchiha made his way over to Naruto’s bed, quietly lifting the blankets and sliding underneath them. He wrapped his arms around the blond and snuggled close to him. He breathed in Naruto’s scent and let it relax him. Naruto seemed to bring about the happiness hidden deep within him somehow, and he liked that feeling when he was with the blond. He had initially come to Naruto’s apartment because he was having nightmares again. They had always been pretty bad ever since Itachi had ruined everything he held dear to him, but lately, they had been getting worse ever since that bastard Orochimaru bestowed the hated cursed seal that Sasuke had to deal with. Waking up from a nightmare and having no one there to comfort you was the most horrible feeling and Sasuke just needed someone to be close to him; someone like his dobe.

Naruto knew something was different from when he first went to sleep. He was warmer, and there was someone next to him. He opened his eyes and noticed that the sun was still behind the moon that shone brightly into his bedroom. He turned his head to see none other than his lover, Sasuke. His boyfriend was just looking at him with those calculating endless obsidian eyes, and Naruto couldn’t help but smile at the adorable boy before him. “Hey,” he said as he brought a hand up to stroke one alabaster cheek gently. “Bad dreams?” He knew the reason Sasuke had come to him that night. He had done it many times before, claiming to just wanting to see Naruto, but Naruto knew better.

Sasuke just nodded and snuggled closer to his lover. He had no problem with showing his weaknesses to Naruto. It wasn’t always like that though, and Sasuke just recently started to tell Naruto what was really on his mind. But that was a privilege that was solely for Naruto alone. “I just wanted to be closer to you.” he said quietly as he leaned up to press his lips to Naruto’s gently.

Naruto kissed back with equal passion. He wanted Sasuke to know how much he loved him and was willing to be there for him through anything. He knew that Sasuke was having a difficult time since that snake freak did something weird to Sasuke.

He felt Sasuke gently slide his tongue across his bottom lip, asking for entrance. He complied by opening his mouth to let Sasuke’s tongue slide in and against Naruto’s tongue. They stayed like that until the need for air made itself known and they slowly separated, only to come back and resume their kiss.

The black haired boy didn’t know what he was starting. The two lovers hadn’t had sex yet and Sasuke didn’t know how to approach the subject to Naruto. He figured that the time would come and it would happen when it happened. ‘Guess now’s the time.’ He thought to himself. He didn’t want to dive right into it though without at least telling Naruto how he felt first. He gently pulled away from the kiss and stared deeply into Naruto’s ocean blue eyes. “You are so perfect.” he whispered gently against Naruto’s neck, his lips ghosting over the sensitive skin as he spoke. “I hope you know how special you are; to me and everyone else around you. I love you.” His lips found the blonde’s once more and he felt Naruto’s arms wrap around him.

Naruto didn’t even see that coming. He was so happy though that Sasuke had finally set his feelings out and told him he loved him. He separated from the youngest Uchiha for a moment and smiled at the raven. “I love you too Sasu, more than anything.” He knew what Sasuke’s confession was leading up to, and by Naruto’s standards, it was pretty much about time. He leaned down and gently kissed Sasuke’s neck, running his tongue softly along the smooth skin. He rested a hand at the hem of Sasuke’s shirt and gently slid it underneath the fabric. He loved the way Sasuke’s skin felt, so warm and soft. He would be content with just touching Sasuke’s skin.

Sasuke grew tired of the barriers separating them and sat up to pull his shirt off. Once that was accomplished, he helped Naruto do the same with his shirt. Then the pants went and eventually they were entwined together, skin to skin, no barriers to prevent them from completely feeling each other.

Naruto’s breathing grew a bit more labored as his body started to get aroused. His skin was heating up against Sasuke’s touch, and Sasuke’s lips were like fire on his skin. “Sasu, I need you so bad.” He was able to at least get that far in his speech before all coherent thought deserted him as a warm wet mouth engulfed the head of his cock. That had led up to their first time together. It was the most amazing experience of Naruto’s life. He stood up and quietly walked out of the room he was supposed to be sleeping in and headed outside for a bit of fresh air. They had stopped close to a lake and Naruto took the opportunity to sit in the grass and look out over the beautiful landscape.

His mind drifted back again to the time when team seven was on a mission. The ‘Real’ team seven, which at that time included Sasuke. They had been fighting earlier that day and Naruto remembered how horrible he felt afterwards. To say the makeup sex was amazing would have been an understatement. He smiled to himself at the memory of having to be extra quiet so as not to draw attention to themselves. It wouldn’t have looked too good if Sakura or Kakashi had caught them.

Sasuke glared at Naruto as they kept running. “Shut up dobe. I wasn’t scared; would you want to get caught like that?”

Naruto just giggled and gave Sasuke a quick kiss before they arrived back at their camp, only to find everyone there and asleep.

Naruto sighed as he stood up and made his way over to the still lake that was next to their camp. What had gone wrong? Didn’t Sasuke love him anymore? He could feel the tears roll down his face; why did it have to be this way?

The blue eyed ninja sat down on the grassy bank and stared down into the water, looking at his own reflection. He remembered the good times he had had with Sasuke, but there were also some nasty fights that led to week long silent treatments and harsh blows. Now he wondered if all that fighting had finally driven Sasuke to leave him... to leave everything. It was probably not that simple though; and Naruto was not that petty to believe that Sasuke’s departure was solely his fault.

He jumped a bit as someone sat next to him quietly… Sai? What the hell was he doing here? “What do you want?” he asked grumpily, still not quite trusting this new kid.

Sai gave one of his brilliant smiles. “I just wanted to make sure you were alright. You seemed pretty down ever since we left the village.”

“Oh yeah? And why pray tell would I be bummed out? Hmm, maybe because someone I care deeply about left everyone that gives two shits about him?” Naruto was angry at Sai’s seemingly oblivious attitude. The black haired boy knew perfectly well that Naruto and Sasuke were close. Maybe not as close as they really were, but he at least knew they were best friends. “Just leave me alone.” he said as he turned away.

What would it take to convince Sasuke to come home if they found him this time? Naruto couldn’t help but let his thoughts continue, ignoring Sai as he did so.

Sai just shook his head and went back into the ‘tent’ to get back to sleep. If the blonde didn’t want his advice and help, he wouldn’t bother.

Naruto felt the tears continue to fall as he racked his brain on how to convince and show Sasuke that he and a lot of other people still loved him. It was harder than Naruto thought it would be to convince Sasuke of this. Considering what happened at the Valley of the End, Naruto doubted it was even possible for Sasuke to love him anymore.

He froze on the spot… no it couldn’t be. He just felt Sasuke’s chakra signature. But, that couldn’t be right. Why would Sasuke be here? Then he felt a presence behind him followed by arms that were gently wrapped around his waist. “Why are you crying?” he heard whispered quietly into his ear and he shivered.

“Sasuke?” he asked quietly, not wanting to say it too loud in case it was a dream, thus the loud noise shatter it. He felt lips on his neck to convince him of his answer and he turned around to look into the inky black eyes of his lover. He couldn’t move, he couldn’t speak; he could only stare at the beautiful face of Sasuke; his Sasuke.

The inky haired youth gave a faint smile and pushed a few bangs away from Naruto’s blue eyes. “Why are you crying?” he asked again, not confirming or denying Naruto’s question. It was plain enough that it was him.

“Because I miss you, and I’m not sure if you love me anymore.” Naruto bowed his head and didn’t move. He wanted to lean into Sasuke desperately but he wasn’t sure if it would be received in a good light from his boyfriend.

Sasuke seemed to freeze on the spot and then sighed deeply as he pulled Naruto into his lap. “I didn’t leave because I hate you.” Sasuke said carefully. “I told you why I left. Why can’t you understand?”

“Because I don’t!” Naruto lowered his voice as he looked around. “You don’t have to do this. I can help you if you want. Please Sasuke, don’t leave me.” Tears started to fall once more and this time he did cling to the youngest Uchiha.

Sasuke held Naruto despite himself and stroked the golden locks. He always was really weak when he saw Naruto cry. It just tore at his heart. “You can’t help me… I need to do this on my own. At least on my own after I achieve the power I need to do it.” He took a deep breath. “I can’t stay for much longer. Someone will know I’m gone soon. But the reason why I came was to tell you that I still love you. Don’t ever for a second doubt that.” he said firmly as e stood up, leaving a desperate Naruto trying his hardest to cling to him.

“No, don’t go! Please! I’ll never doubt you if you just stay here! Sasuke!” but he was already gone. Sasuke had disappeared into the trees with one last tear streaked look at his love. The whispered words of ‘I love you’ hung in the air and in Naruto’s ears.

The blond screamed and punched the ground making a giant crater in the earthy surface and making the occupants of the tent run out. He ignored the questioning looks and concerned questions as he continued to cry at the water’s edge. Maybe seeing Sasuke again was the last thing he needed. Just hearing the words and seeing Sasuke go off again was like another stab to his heart, joining the millions of others that came before it since this stupid thing started. But he wouldn’t give up. Not when he knew that Sasuke still loved and needed him. Maybe Sasuke didn’t admit to needing the blond… but with love came need for another and he knew that one day, Sasuke would succeed and finally, finally return to him for good. Of course he would still be looking for the raven and trying to get him to come home, but he was comforted just a bit at knowing that he wasn’t a lost cause... htat he did want to return eventually. Naruto was just scared that Sasuke might die before that happened. There were a lot of powerful people the Uchiha would undoubtedly have to go through before he accomplished part of his goal, and Naruto worried all the time… All he wanted was for Sasuke to be safe.

Finally starting to calm down, he explained that he had just fell asleep outside and had a bad dream. He knew that they didn’t buy it but was glad that they didn’t say anything. He declined their request for him to come inside and he lay on the cool grass once more, hoping that maybe, maybe Sasuke would come and see him again tonight before they left the next morning. With this in his mind, Naruto fell into an unsatisfying sleep, partially knowing that he would be very disappointed in the morning.
