A/N: Yet another collection I’ve decided to make of things I’ve written for lj. Sakura and Ino need more love, to make up for the FAIL being dealt them in the manga. This first one was written for queershinobi100 on lj, challenge #2: fate
When she was little, Sakura’s idea of fate was this: she was stuck having a wide forehead, and would forever be shy and friendless because of it. Then she met Ino, who had brought her out of her shell and taught her to be confident in herself. Sakura even had the courage to look for a boy to like.
Sakura didn’t care that Sasuke was the boy everyone liked. Ino had taught her there was something special about her, and Sakura firmly believed that Sasuke would see that special something that none of the other girls had. The only bad thing about liking Sasuke was that Ino liked him, too.
Whenever Sakura thought about missing Ino, she focused on her anger instead. How dare Ino think she was more worthy of Sasuke than Sakura was! She would show her! Once Sasuke noticed Sakura, he would never notice another girl again! And so, Sakura decided her new goal was to become Uchiha Sakura and forever rub her superiority in Ino-pig’s face!
When Sakura was assigned to Team Seven, she knew she would be able to make her dream a reality. It was like fate, being put on the same team as Sasuke!
However, Sakura’s time with Team Seven exposed her to completely different ideas of fate and destiny. Ones that she, in her previously sheltered, girlish naïveté, had never even considered.
Then Sasuke left, and she was unable to stop him. Then Naruto left, because he was determined to stop him. They left Sakura behind without a care.
It was as Sakura again took her own destiny in her hands that she realized she wasn’t completely alone. There was Ino, right beside her, and she realized for the first time that that’s where Ino had always been. Smiling and earning a smile in return, Sakura felt a weight lift from her heart, and something warmer, deeper, settle in its place. Maybe this was fate, too.
