'Summer time and the wind is blowing outside
In lower Chelsea and I don't know
What I'm doing in this city
The sun is always in my eyes
It crashes through the windows
And I'm sleeping on the couch
When I came to visit you
That's when I knew
That I could never have you
I knew that before you did
Still I'm the one who's stupid'

Naruto’s eyes opened and immediately closed once more. The sun was way too bright. Why did Itachi have to have an apartment where there were NO tree’s whatsoever? Stupid city life; it was ridiculous. The blond wouldn’t have minded so much if Itachi had lived somewhere near the ocean; now that would have been worth coming to see. Even though Naruto did live on the coast; he loved making trips to New York City to visit his friend.

Naruto had met Itachi Uchiha through his best friend Sasuke. Sasuke was easily Naruto’s best friend and Itachi was said friend’s older brother. To say it was inevitable that they meet was an understatement. Sasuke was the one who initially figured out that Naruto liked Itachi; if the teasing comments didn’t suggest anything. The blond had denied it at first but as he spent more and more time around Sasuke’s family and consequently Itachi, he felt his feelings for the older man grow more and more fond. He hadn’t admitted to the older man that he liked him. While Itachi knew that Naruto thought of him as much of a close friend as he did Sasuke, the man really had no clue how ‘close’ Naruto wanted to be.

Knowing this always discouraged Naruto. Sasuke was now off in Europe with his girlfriend and Naruto didn’t have that buffer that he usually did between himself and Itachi. Of course he still made frequent visits to Itachi’s apartment in the city; like he was doing now. He hated that he had to sleep on the couch though. While Itachi’s couch was very comfortable; it would be so much nicer to be in the same bed as the raven.

The main reason Naruto never made a move when it came to admitting his real feelings to Itachi was for the simple reason of selfishness. He thought only of rejection and that Itachi would not want to be with someone much younger; even if it was legal, six years was still a big gap. He could only be content with friendship for now. While they were close, Naruto would love it if the older man returned his feelings, but he was too chicken shit to actually do it.

'And there's this burning
Like there's always been
I've never been so alone
And I've never been so alive'

The blond sat up as he heard movement behind him. Itachi must be awake. Sure enough, the older man was seen exiting his bedroom.

Itachi stepped into the living room and spotted Naruto already awake. He had to admit that the blond was adorable in the mornings, but he kept his distance. It was hard to figure him out; one minute it seemed the blond wanted him and the next he was talking about Sasuke. Itachi could say that he somewhat had blossoming feelings for the blue eyed man which would exceed friendship; but he didn’t want to set himself up for disappointment. He just figured that if and when Naruto was ready, he’d be ready too. Oh but the waiting was so hard, it was almost an ache, a kind of burn in his whole body from holding himself back. It was thrilling yet terrifying at the same time. He had never had too many relationship experiences throughout his life and he was very cautious. Itachi feared however that his cautiousness would ultimately drive Naruto away from him. So he opted to stay friends for the time being, until Naruto was ready to make the first move. It did leave him very lonely of course, but he would suffer in quiet longing until the time presented itself.

“How did you sleep?” the raven asked as he headed into the kitchen to make some coffee.

Naruto stood up and went over to his suitcase to pick out his clothing for the day. “I swear your couch is the most comfortable thing I’ve ever slept on. Way better than my bed at home.” He smiled as he walked up to Itachi, clothes in hand. “I’m going to take a shower.”

Itachi nodded and watched Naruto walk off into the bathroom; yes, the waiting was hard.

'Visions of you on a motorcycle drive by
The cigarette ash flies in your eyes
And you don't mind, you smile.
And say the world, it doesn't fit with you
I don't believe you, you're so serene
Careening through the universe
Your axis on a tilt, you're guiltless and free
I hope you take a piece of me with you'

Itachi often pondered what drew him to Naruto. They didn’t really have too many common interests, other than being close to Sasuke. The older raven just chalked it up to loving the blonde’s personality; the way he took everything in stride and never let anything really bother him. It just seemed as if the blond went through life with no worries; even thought Itachi knew that Naruto struggled with a lot of things.

It wasn’t too long after Naruto had gone into the bathroom that he exited. Itachi watched the blond approach once more, now fully dressed. “What do you feel like doing today?” he asked as he handed Naruto a mug of coffee.

The blond took it with a beaming smile. “You don’t have to do all this shit for me you know… I could have made my own coffee.” Nevertheless he took a grateful sip; loving how Itachi knew how to make it how he liked it. “As for what I want to do?” The blond glanced outside for a brief instant. It was a particularly sunny day; yet the weather was very cool. “You haven’t given me a ride on your bike yet.” Ever since Naruto had met Itachi, the man had always driven a motorcycle which the blond thought was sexy as all hell; especially when the man decided to dress all in leather. Itachi had recently gotten a new one after Sasuke had totaled his other one; which actually led to one of the worst fights Naruto had ever beard witness too between the two siblings.

Itachi smiled; he knew Naruto had a weakness for things of that nature. “You’re right; well then we can do that today if you want.” He knew the perfect place to take Naruto. Screw waiting, he needed to confront his feelings and finally admit them to the blond. He’d deal with rejection if or when it happened.

'And there's things I would like to do
That you don't believe in
I would like to build something
But you'll never see it happen
And there's this burning
Like there's always been
I've never been so alone
And I've, I've never been so alive'

Itachi watched the blond for the rest of the morning. It was amazing to just look at him; the blond man was just too beautiful. He always had a fear that his chances were slim; why would Naruto want him? His brother was a much better match for Naruto; even if they were total opposites. While his brother did have a girlfriend it was no mystery to him or Naruto that the younger raven was bisexual. He swore up and down that Naruto had a small ‘thing’ with him when they had first met; but Sasuke and Naruto both deny it to this day. Well, Itachi didn’t have that much in common with the blond either… but Naruto kept coming to see him.

Naruto finished his bowl of cereal that he made for himself and rinsed out his dishes. He was almost bouncing in his excitement. “Are you ready yet?” he asked anxiously.

Itachi just chuckled at the boundless energy the man seemed to always have. “Yeah, let’s go.” There it was again, that burn that he felt deep within his soul every time he saw the blond happy. Naruto’s smile could light up any room and cheer anyone up instantly. It had worked for him more often than not.

'Where's the soul I want to know
New York City is evil
The surface is everything
But I could never do that
Someone would see through that'

Naruto clung to Itachi’s waist as they zoomed through the streets of New York. Cars were everywhere trying to get to their destinations as fast as they could without actually breaking any laws. Naruto always thought it was ridiculous, this fast paced life. Where he lived everything was calm and no one really worried too much about anything. He figured that’s what came with living in a small beach town.

Itachi reveled in the grip Naruto had on his waist. It was physical contact that he had wanted so badly for the longest time. It wasn’t helping that the rest of the blonde’s body was pressing into his back as well. Just a few more miles and they’d be there…

Naruto couldn’t help but indulge in the closeness with Itachi. It was such close proximity that the blond couldn’t help but get a bit aroused. However, all too soon he felt them slow down and come to a stop. He finally opened his eyes after having them closed pretty much the whole time and slowly took off his helmet. “Where are we?” he asked.

Itachi smiled and slid off the bike then helped Naruto do the same. “I thought you would be missing the beach by now.” was his simple answer. A lot of people didn’t know about this place; mainly those who lived around the area. It was a small beach on the coast just outside of the city.

Naruto beamed at Itachi and flung himself into the man’s arms. He had been missing the beach after being in the city for a whole week already. He realized what he was doing and quickly pulled away before the older raven could even do anything. “Sorry.” He said simply.

Itachi almost protested out loud when Naruto let him go. It felt so right and warm… he wanted the blond to stay like that forever. He shook it off though and locked up his bike before leading the way to the beach. This particular beach was at the bottom of jagged cliffs. He headed down the narrow and steep stairs and didn’t turn back once, knowing that Naruto was right behind him.

Naruto couldn’t believe how quiet and empty the beach was. It seemed as if no one really knew it existed. Well that was fine; he hated a lot of people around when he surfed, it was annoying to have to jump off quickly if someone was in the way; possibly injuring them and himself. The waves in the ocean weren’t too big but he didn’t mind that; he wasn’t here to surf after all.

The blond continued to follow Itachi without a word. He had a feeling as to what was going on and he was going to welcome it. He had always wished that Itachi would one day return his feelings… If this wasn’t what it seemed, then he… no, he didn’t want to set himself up for disappointment.

Itachi came to a stop in a rather secluded area near some rocks and sat down on one of the large boulders that littered the sandy floor. He looked toward the slightly confused looking blond and patted the space next to him, watching as Naruto made his way over.

Naruto sat next to Itachi and unconsciously moved a bit closer. “Thanks for bringing me here; I love it.” He was about to say more but his lips were a bit occupied by a pair of others. Naruto’s eyes widened; Itachi was kissing him? The blond had never even seen it coming. He wasted no time in kissing back, not wanting Itachi to think that the kiss was unwelcome.

Itachi had no idea what had come over him. All he knew was the time felt right; so he went for it. He wrapped his arms around the blonde’s toned body as Naruto began to respond to him. The other man’s lips felt amazing against his; a bit chapped, but delicious nonetheless. The raven slid his tongue against Naruto’s bottom lips and gave a mental cheer as Naruto opened his mouth to allow Itachi access.

Naruto moaned quietly as he felt the older raven’s tongue slide against his own. It was so arousing to have this man kissing him. Then a thought hit him; what if this wasn’t right? Naruto was still so much younger than Itachi… could it even amount to anything? All the doubts were swirling in his head and he couldn’t help but pull back, thus breaking the kiss.

Itachi gave the younger male a confused look. “What’s wrong?” he asked gently. “Did I go too far? I’m sorry…”

“No, it’s not you… can we go?” Naruto stood up abruptly and headed off in the direction of the stairs once more. He had too much on his mind… and he couldn’t go through with it… The thought of losing Itachi later on down the road was too heartbreaking.

'And this is our last time
We'll be friends again
I'll get over you, you'll wonder who I am
And there's this burning
Just like there's always been
I've never been so alone, alone
And I, and I, I've never been so alive
So alive'

After they arrived back to Itachi’s apartment, among silence, the older raven watched with a wrench in his heart as Naruto packed his things. It wouldn’t have been so bad if the blond wasn’t leaving early. He had made a huge mistake in making a move… Why had he been so stupid? He probably lost his only chance… and he probably lost a friend as well.

Naruto hated that he had to do this. It was breaking his heart as he thought more and more on it. But it had to be done. To save his sanity and possibly be friends with Itachi later in life; he had to create distance between them. He stood up and put his bag over his shoulder. “Don’t look at me like that… I’m sorry.” There really was nothing else he could say. He so wanted to forget this whole thing and be in Itachi’s comforting embrace, but he needed to be practical; it wouldn’t work.

Itachi just closed his eyes. He knew that Naruto was just scared of getting hurt; it was a selfish move… “I wouldn’t want to make you stay if it made you uncomfortable. I hope I can see you again soon.” He knew that Naruto was going to end their friendship… he just hoped the blond knew what he was doing.

Naruto nodded. “I’ll see you around then?” He hated this, it was already breaking him apart; but it was better than what could possibly happen.

Itachi nodded and watched as the blond left his apartment. Of course it had to end like that… Itachi always had the worst luck with relationships.

Closing the door, Itachi made his way to his bedroom and stood there for about fifteen minutes before grabbing up his keys and heading out the door; fuck if he was going to let the blond go that easily.

'I go home to the coast
It starts to rain I paddle out on the water, alone
Taste the salt and taste the pain
I'm not thinking of you again
Summer dies and swells rise
The sun goes down in my eyes
See this rolling wave
Darkly coming to take me home'

Once Naruto got home he didn’t stay too long; just enough to grab his board and head out again.

Sitting in the water atop his board, he felt tiny droplets of water start to hit him; great, it was raining; great weather to fit his mood; also great for disguising tears. He wiped a few away as the pain ripped through him. Sometimes he wished he lived on the west coast so he could see the sunset out on the beach. At the moment it was pretty dark but he knew it was about that time when sun and ocean met on the other side of the country.

He caught a few waves and then decided to head home; alone. No doubt Itachi was… He needed to stop thinking about him; it hurt too much.

'And I've never been so alone
And I've never been so alive'

Itachi got off his bike and made his way onto the sand. He knew Naruto liked to come to this particular beach and luckily there weren’t too many people. He wouldn’t have to look too hard.

He sat down on the sand and watched the water. There he was; the blond wasn’t too far out, and it looked like he was coming in. Itachi waited until Naruto spotted him before standing up.

Naruto’s eyes widened as he saw a familiar figure on the sand. Why the hell did he come? Naruto paddled back to shore and approached the older raven. “Itachi I can’t…”

“Shut up.” were Itachi’s only words before he smashed his lips to Naruto’s own moist ones.

Naruto couldn’t help it. He pressed back with a passion. It was too overwhelming. The straight out connection was too strong for him to ignore. He pulled back suddenly. “Itachi, I can’t… Please, it’ll only turn out bad for both of us…”

“Why does it have to? You’re being fucking selfish!” Itachi couldn’t help the raise in his voice. “Yes I’m selfish too for wanting you… but fuck Naruto, I love you!” He had surprised himself with this admission. He didn’t really think he knew how he felt on that deep of a level; guess he finally realized.

Naruto went still. Itachi loved him? That wasn’t what he expected at all. “Are you sure?” he asked quietly. “Because if you’re not sure… I can’t say it back to you.”

Itachi sighed in relief. At least Naruto was willing to listen. “Of course I’m sure. I’ve felt this way for a long time. I guess I had selfish reasons for keeping it from you for so long. Please, just don’t separate yourself from me completely. It hurts too much to think of life without you; even if you’re just my friend.”

Naruto wrapped his arms around Itachi and buried his head in the other man’s chest. “I want to be with you… I’m just scared of losing you.”

“I won’t go anywhere if I can help it. I’d never leave you.” The raven stroked Naruto’s golden hair and kissed the top of his head. “Please, just trust me.”

Naruto nodded. “I trust you. I’m sorry for making you drive all the way down here because I’m a dumbass.”

Itachi sighed and pulled the blond closer. “Don’t be sorry. I didn’t want to let you go like that. I knew you were confused. It was my fault. I should have actually talked to you about my feelings before kissing you like that.”

“But I liked the kiss.” Naruto said with a small blush.

Itachi smiled. “Well I should hope so…. I can guarantee there’ll be a lot more.”

“I want one now.” Naruto said quietly.

Itachi wasted no time in capturing the blonde’s lips. This time however, the kiss was slower and gentler, unlike the frenzied one earlier. He pulled away slowly and licked his own lips. “God you taste so good.”

The blond smiled and then frowned once more. “I got you all wet…”

Itachi chuckled. “It’s raining, I don’t think it makes a difference.”

“Come to my house, I’ll dry your clothes for you. And it’s getting late; I don’t think you should drive back home tonight.” He said with a raised eyebrow.

Itachi smirked. “I’d love to stay the night.” He said as he followed Naruto to the parking lot where he watched the blond get into his car. He got on his own bike and followed Naruto to his house, hopefully where they would be able to get even closer.

'And I've never been so alone
And I've never been so alive'

END!

Hope you liked it Monkey-Chan!!!

It felt weird to write with no sex scene in it… But I figured the story was a bit too sweet for that :D Hope that was sappy enough for you! LOL
