Naruto threw his feet over the side of the bed, running his fingers through unruly blond spikes; he did not want to work today. He lazily hit his alarm clock off the counter, happy when it stopped making noise.

Why did he have to; it was such a crappy job. He hated being a waiter: crappy pay, crappy tips and rude people 75% of the time.

One day he would get a better job... That’s what he had been saying since he was eighteen and seven years later he was still stuck in that hell.

Well, it is not as it seemed; the others he worked with were awesome, it was just this was not where he saw himself.

Naruto grabbed his cellphone, keys and wallet. He got ready three hours ago, Naruto was just slacking off on going to work.

He needed a life - that's what he needed. Naruto grabbed his mp3 from next to his computer desk before he headed out. He was most likely going to be late; it was a ten-minute walk and he was supposed to be there a minute from now. Oh, well he really did not care.

....

“Hey Naruto.”

“Hm.” The blond-haired male looked up at Kiba as he entered the back of the diner.

“Okay I got a good one.” the brown-haired male grinned. “Why do waiters wear aprons?”

“Why?”

“If I get one while working I’ll tell you.” The male's grin widened.

Naruto rolled his eyes leaning onto the counter-top as he waited for the customers to start showing; it really was a slow day, he should have taken longer to get here. The blond-haired male folded his hands under his chin, resting his eyes as Kiba walked into the back.

Naruto was on the verge of falling asleep when the familiar chimes above the door echoed, signaling that someone entered. The blond blinked, sighing heavily as a large group made their way to a back table.

He did not want to work today... nor any day for that matter.

Naruto plastered a fake smile on his face as he counted how many there where; the blonde swiped the menus from behind the counter, quickly taking the amount he needed and walking oh, so slowly to the group.

He hated large groups, mainly because he hated busting his own tables; the old man really needed to hire a new dishwasher and bus boy. Oh, and while he was at it, give Naruto a raise.

“Hello I’m Naruto and I’ll be your server today. Can I start you out with some drinks?” Naruto handed a menu to each person at the table.

“Well Naruto I don’t believe we asked for your name or even care for that matter.” The blond-haired girl smiled.

Naruto bit the inside of his cheek to keep from opening his mouth, hoping to hold in his reply in. He could not afford to get in trouble again. “Well it’s my job to give you my name. It’s called manners... You should try it sometime.” Naruto mumbled the last part under his breath.

Before the woman could reply, a blue-haired male spoke, “Sorry she’s just on her rag, can we have a few minutes?” The male grinned, making Naruto smile as he walked away with a snicker.

Naruto walked in the back, long enough to get himself a drink of water. “Next customers are yours.” Naruto kicked the male's leg.

“Ok,” the male grinned.

Naruto stole some of the fries Kiba was snacking on. Looking at the male he smiled, wanting to improve his own mood. “Sorry I won’t miss next time.” Naruto laughed, walking back out.

Kiba lifted his fingers to his mouth wiping off the ranch dressing there, his grin falling as he turned and walked quickly to bathroom.

Naruto went back to the table, noting that the girl was not there. “What can I start you out with?”

Naruto started scribbling their order down, nodding his head every now and then. “And for the girl or should I come back?”

“She had to leave, un.” The male smiled.

“I see; well, I’ll have your drinks to you in a minute.”

Naruto glared when he turned around and saw three men sitting at the counter. He walked to the door looking in the back; his glare increased when he did not see Kiba. “I’m going to kick his ass.”

Naruto handed the order to Chouji as he moved to the front. "I’ll be right with you guys.”

Naruto hurriedly grabbed a tray as he started on the drinks for the group of males. Oh, yes Kiba would pay. Why did they start getting busy? He was hoping the day would stay quiet and slow.

~~ 4 hours later ~~

“Hey!” Naruto swatted the older male's hand away from his ass. “This is a family restaurant, buddy.” Naruto growled low at the older man.

“Hey, come on, one night with me would be more than a month's salary here.” Naruto glared at the male - hitting him would so be worth losing his job; now if only he did not need it. And what the hell? Why was it when the bar down the street threw out drunk the restaurant was stuck with them?

“You got to the count of five to leave.”

The male turned towards the cold voice, any attempts to form a sentence dying in his throat as he stared into jade eyes.

“3.” The voice was deep, deadly; the male found himself throwing cash on the counter before speeding out of the restaurant.

“Gaara.” Naruto smiled as the redhead, who moved to sit down.

“Are you ok, Naruto?”

“Of course,” Naruto grinned, “but I thought you didn’t work until tonight, Neji.” Naruto leaned over the redhead's shoulders, letting his arms dangle over the broad shoulders.

“Kiba called feeling sick, so I came in.”

So that was why; well, he was still going to kick his ass. “Hm, I told him not to take those pills.” Naruto scratched the back of his head.

“I figured he did, so I called Kankuro before I left to keep an eye on him.” Neji crossed his arms. “You didn’t take any, did you?”

‘Not of those ones,’ Naruto thought, as he lifted a hand. "I still have a table over there; I guess I should go check on them.” Naruto turned quickly, walking away; he was going to be in trouble.

He just needed something to lighten his mood. Its not as if he was addicted; it was nothing even that serious anyways. He would have to keep busy to avoid a lecture from Neji, and that stare - the one that told him he was in trouble without using any words that he always got from Gaara three or four times a day… Fuck, this was going to be a bad evening, he could just tell.
