“If Everyone Cared” / Nickelback

Naruto gazed up at the stars, feeling the close presence of his dearest friends around him. Konoha was little more than rubble, and what was left of the population was either in the emergency tunnels of Hokage mountain or in the outskirt houses that managed to survive Pein’s attack. Hinata was clinging to him, and he kept his arm around her. He had his love, his friends. His village could be rebuilt. The imminent threat from Pein was gone, destroyed.

‘We’re alive.’ He thought. He stared at the stares and across the town, watching fireflies flitting in the emptiness. ‘If only more people had cared before… if only everyone didn’t worry about foolish pride and revenge.’

“Hey Hinata? What do you think it would have been like? If the wars hadn’t happened, if no one had died and we could all live peacefully together?”

“The world would be different. It’d just be a dream….” She snuggled deeper into his arms, stealing warmth he gladly gave.
‘To see the day no one had to die… It would truly be a dream….’

But it’d be one he would make come true. He’d see to that.

“Down with the Sickness” / Disturbed

Pain, gut-wrenching, soul-searing pain. How could he have ever thought that listening to the fox would be a good idea? But the end result was supposed to be worth it…

Rage, red-hot and violent, rose within his body and he couldn’t stop it from consuming him. He’d been lonely too long, and opened himself to the demon within. And what a thing it had been… and now, he’s opened himself fully to that demon inside him, Kyuubi himself. He hadn’t been expecting the beast to be so dark, full of hate and rage and darker, violent things. His flesh felt like it was burning, and as he looked into the mirror in his room, he could bubbling red chakra wrapping around him. ‘Open to me, human. Allow me full control!’ He couldn’t resist it, and with a roar, his body shredded away, leaving a chakra fused form that was a pony-sized fox with nine tails. A cry full or rage and hate filled the room, and the building blew away, a windstorm of burning chakra shattering everything in its path.

The rising of Kyuubi ignited every demon with the five nations, and as seals popped, bloodbath ensued. There was nothing left of the humans when they were done. Demons had been awoken, the sickness of anger, hate, rage, released upon the world. And upon the mountains stood a form sporting nine tails on a humanoid body. ’This is my gift, to myself and the world. Let them fear us.’

"My Immortal" / Evanescence

She curled up in the corner of her room, hidden by the closet door. Tears poured down her cheeks as the visions from her continuing nightmare tormented her. Choking down the scream wanting to rip itself from her throat, she wrapped her arms around her knees and let her body rock minutely. ‘Why? Why can’t you leave me alone?!?’ She screams it in her mind, knowing her intended target would never be able to hear her again. He’d left her collapsed on the ground, unable to do anything as she watched him leave. It haunted her dreams, no matter how many times she tried to get over it.

She was alone, more than ever. ‘Why couldn’t you let me help you? I would have chased away your fears, patched you up, helped you with anything. And still you left, like we, I, am useless. WHY??’ With another sob, Sakura curled into a ball, knowing she would have to hide this mental breakdown from everyone by morning. But for now, she could cry and mourn the one person she ever thought she’d love. ‘Why, Sasuke, why….?

"Numb" – Linkin Park

Hinata nearly crumpled from Neji’s blow. Her body wanted to give in, to call it quits, but she knew her father was in the stands, waiting, watching, judging. And even as she pushed herself on, retaliating and pushing Neji back momentarily, she wondered if there was any way she would ever make him proud of her. And when Neji completed defeated her, she looked up- and saw the blank look her father gave her. She could never prove herself, even though she tried, proving herself, walking as he directed, fighting, learning, being the proper heiress.

It wasn’t something she would want for long.

She collapsed again, seeing the disappointment on her father’s face in her mind when she would tell him she’d failed. She couldn’t help herself, her friends, and she was so tired of trying to prove herself. Didn’t just last week he sent her to train with Neji because she wasn’t advancing under him well enough? Silent tears escaped her eyes as she huddled on the ground, wishing again that she didn’t have to be here.

Moments later she had given up on the idea of ever being able to be a proper heir and member of the family. She’d never be able to show her dad that she was capable- and she could be doing other things. Like following her own dreams.

Coldness filled her heart as she saw the one person left in her life that mattered hit the ground. Naruto was the only one she felt anything for anymore, having had to bear the harsh scrutiny of so many for so long. The numb feeling faded away, and heat filled her, giving her a fresh bit of life after so very long. Not living up to her father’s expectations and will had almost destroyed her own will. And now… she charged forward, getting between Pein and her love. And once again she was beaten, knocked down like she was nothing. As she lay there letting healers mend her enough to survive, knowing the man she’d tried to protect was off fighting for everyone’s life, she felt shame again.

She came to her father one last time, planning on ending it one way or another very soon. She didn’t want to be here, a shame to her family, a weak, useless tool that served no purpose. “Hiashi-sama,” she started. She shook her head. “Father… I’m done here. I can’t live this life you want for me. I’ll never be good enough, fast enough, elegant enough. You’ve said it for so long…” She took a deep breath- she wasn’t going to cry here. “I’m chasing my own dreams father, if I can still get them. I’m not coming back. I won’t be walking in your shoes anymore.” She stood up, but he followed and caught her in his arms.

“You’ve grown into quite the woman, Hinata-chan. Your mother would be so proud… and so am I.” He let her go and walked away, his usual arrogant mask firmly in place. Hinata spared him just a glance, before leaving. She still felt numb, dull, worn out. But to hear those words from him…

She could still live. She wouldn’t drown from this. And maybe in time, she could feel everything again.

"Before He Cheats" – Carrie Underwood

The blonde busty woman sat in her chair, twitching her hand as she watched the white haired man she’d called her man for the last several months flirt unashamedly with some cute little brunette. She’d come on a tip-off, that Jiraiya had been fooling around on her. And with the way he was looking at the pretty little thing, rubbing against her, chuckling loudly and freely passing drinks into her hand, she knew it was true. And she was pissed… no, beyond pissed. She was furiously, lividly angry.

She left the bar, unnoticed by the faker schmoozing up that other girl. An evil grin crossed her face as she found his hot little ride in the parking lot, a midnight blue Porsche Carrera 911 turbo. Without much more thought than the nice vindictive streak, she flipped out a kunai, slashing deep holes into the tires before reaching in and shredding the nice leather interior seats. She etched her name into his dashboard, adding a notch underneath for each month they had been together. She backed away, feeling something was missing… she still had the urge to punch something. She popped the hood and walked around to the front, checking to see exactly where the engine block and transmission were. Once she had an exact idea, she slammed the lid down, and drove two hard punches through the metal. Crunching sounds echoed from underneath the car, where metal and plastic and ceramic bits scattered the blacktop, and she wrenched the hood up again, very satisfied at the sight of the completely cracked engine block.

He’d have to spend incredulous amounts of money on repairs, or buy a new car- either way, his new hot fling wouldn’t be interested once she saw the ruined car and another girl’s name in it. Tsunade sighed, knowing she really was better off single. Better make sure he knew that precisely, so he wouldn’t come crawling back to her. She took an exploding tag from her pocket, flipped it over, and scrawled a harsh little note saying they were through. Then she quite casually fixed it to steering wheel. When he peeled it off, the tag would be activated, giving him just enough time to read the note before it exploded.

Tsunade stalked off into the night, pissed but feeling a bit more free. Maybe it was time to go see the world and enjoy a little freedom. She just needed a drink, and a nice gamble. Life was already looking up.
