Silence

Encounter.

The sunlight leaked in through the shades of his bedroom window causing him to stirr in his sleep, turning onto his side and wrapping his arms around the feather pillow that he always slept with. He was supposed to be at school by now but he wasn't up to going today, however, he knew that one of his friends would be here soon to get his sorry ass up and take him by force. He groaned and squinted his eyes open as he looked around his messy white painted room.

His clothes were tossed on the floor carelessly, and ramen bowls were in practically every corner of the room. He ran a hand through his golden hair and looked down at the sheets of his bed in an annoyed manner.

He really didn't want to get up for school today nor did he want to deal with the jocks and their stupid gay jokes. Everyone knew in Kawasaki High that Naruto Uzumaki was homosexual and only a few people were left as his friends because of it. It didn't matter to him either way though, it just meant that he knew who his true friends were now. Not the others who judged him based on his sexuality and actions. The odd thing about Naruto was though was the fact that he could hear other people's thoughts in their mind.

He could tell what people were thinking about him even if he didn't want to. He knew what his best friend was feeling even before he started talking about it. However, he had never told his best friend Kiba about it in fear that Kiba would think of him as a freak and leave, too. Ever since the car accident with his family he had gained this power for some reason. He wasn't sure where it had orignated from, but he didn't really care.

Sighing as he realized that there was no other way to deal with this other than to get his lazy ass up, Naruto slowly slid out of his twin sized bed and stood up on the floor, looking around for something clean to wear. It was true that his apartment wasn't all that clean, but it was the only home that he had ever known other than his family home that he had moved out of when his family had passed away in the horrible car accident.

He didn't want any reminders of what had happened, but he knew he would have to talk about it at some point - he was just avoiding it for now though. This was something that he would have to get over sooner or later, but it would take time to adjust to. He slid on a simple pair of jeans and an orange t-shirt that he enjoyed wearing most of the time, grabbed his bookbag and headed out the door towards the high school.

When he arrived to the school that morning everyone seemed to be buzzing about some new kid that had just moved into Konoha. He rolled his eyes as he sat at the table that he, Kiba, Gaara, and Shikamaru usually sat at during lunch and in the morning before the bell rang. Just what he needed to hear when he got to school first thing - a new hot, sexy, drop-dead georgous guy that just moved here from the city. And we all know who gets first dibs on him - the jocks and cheerleaders, of course. Naruto didn't stand a chance so he didn't bother to show an interest in the situation at all.

"Hey Naruto, Naruto! Didn't you hear about the new kid?" Shikamaru asked, looking over at him to see if he would have been at least a little excited to meet the new handsome heart-throb of the school.

"Why should I even bother? It's not like he would be interested in me or anything..."

"Not with an attitude like that, you won't!" he said with a stupid grin on his face that made Naruto want to knock him out.

"It's worth a try, Naruto. You know, maybe a boyfriend could boost your confidence a little bit.." Gaara said with a shrug.

"I don't care."

"C'mon, Naruto..." Kiba said, putting a hand on the blond's shoulder, staring down at him in concern. "Something wrong?"

"Just peachy." Naruto responded in sarcasm as he glanced over towards the front doors of the school as if expecting the new heartthrob to enter as soon as he looked.

As expected; he didn't show up.

The bell rang a few minutes before Kiba could get in another word and Naruto quickly made his way towards his first class with his bookbag clutched tightly to his shoulders as he walked. The blond looked around, attempting to dodge everyone that managed to get in his way except he managed to bump into someone on the way to class. He looked up and his face turned the shade of red that was only meant to be on the cheeks of a female when they got like this.

"S-sorry..."

"NARUTO!" he heard a female shriek.

"YOU APOLOGIZE TO SASUKE RIGHT NOW! HOW DARE YOU BUMP INTO HIM LIKE THAT!" Ino squealed and hollared like a pig and smacked Naruto's cheek for doing such an obsurd thing.

"It's all right." Sasuke spoke, and suddenly the thoughts of everyone, including Ino's raging thoughts of how much she wanted to jump Sasuke's shit had been silenced.

His eyes widened as his blue orbs stared into Sasuke's dark ones.

"I-I'm sorry...I-I gotta get to class..." he said and hurried to his English class, dropping his notebook during his rush to get as far away from the new kid as possible.

Sasuke sighed as he picked up the notebook that Naruto had dropped, tucking it underneath his arm with the intention of returning it to him the next time that he got a chance to see the blond haired beauty that he had bumped into that morning as he walked towards his first hour Science class which was on the other side of the hallway.

His heart raced when he got to the classroom and sat as far back as he could get, crossing his arms as he waited for Kakashi-Sensei to enter the room - he was always late it seemed and there was always time for him to listen to the thoughts of the other students before he got there.

Why couldn't this day just be over already?
