I see his face, feel his touch. His scent surrounds me. I know this is a dream, I know that all I am feeling is a memory, a pleasant one that is now a nightmare.
I am trying so hard to wake, but, he is keeping me here, in my mind. His body is pressing down on mine. I can feel every contour.
Please, let me wake, I don’t want to remember. I can hear his voice, pleading with me. I want to wake up!
His hands work their way down my body and I fight it. My sight is failing in my waking world, but here, I can see everything. While it is the touch is one that I know, that I once took great pleasure in, the face, his face, is nothing more than a rotted corpse.
“Itachi!”
My eyes open. Kisame is over me, looking worried. “Itachi, are you all right?”
“Yes.”
He seems to accept my answer, as he always does. I want to have him stay with me, to keep the nightmare away, but my pride prevents it.
I struggle to stay awake, to keep him away. He haunts me and the closer I come to my final days, the more he is there, tormenting me with what could have been, with his gentle touch and his mask of death.
I am sorry, Shisui, wait for me.
